Abstract:
The paper presents the theoretical prerequisites for centralization of automotive vehicles maintenance and repair as a regional logistics system. The concept of centralization is analyzed, the basic principles are considered. As a conceptual scheme of centralization, the scheme of the hub airport was adopted, to which all requests for maintenance and repairs flock and, after completion, are put into operation. To optimize this system, the mathematical apparatus of the queuing theory and criteria for the effectiveness of its application are used. The closed form of the queuing system is substantiated. The trend of efficiency indicators with an increase in the scale of the enterprise (the number of serviced machines) is analyzed. Efficiency indicators such as technical readiness ratios, fleet utilization, and productivity are increasing. Indicators such as specific investment in the production and technical base, the labor intensity of maintenance and repair, the consumption of spare parts are reduced. However, these dependences are nonlinear damping, which is explained by the action of the law of damped efficiency. At a certain scale of the enterprise (level of centralization), saturation and a sharp change (the so-called "breakthrough") of performance indicators occur either due to the structure of the production and technical base, or due to new organizational forms.

Abstract:
Purpose – This purpose of this paper is to investigate the diagnostic abilities and dimensional structure of the SERVQUAL scale within a non-western automotive repair services setting. Design/methodology/approach – Data collected from a randomly generated sample of 555 participants that produced a 50.63 percent response rate was factor analyzed and tested for internal scale consistency. A one sample t-test and a median ranking statistics of component extractions were also conducted. Findings – This study reveals that the SERVQUAL scale is a valid and reliable measure of service quality within the automotive repair services setting in a non-western context. Further outcomes from the assessment show that, even though the original five dimensional SERVQUAL structure was successfully replicated, there were definite differences in items assignment. Empathy also emerged as the most important dimension of service quality. Research limitations/implications – The outcomes of this study cannot be generalized. As such, the SERVQUAL scale should receive more rigorous research in non-western contexts in two directions. First, the scale should be tested across other services fields to further confirm its diagnostic abilities and dimensional structure. Second, more multi-sectoral as well as cross-cultural studies tested across larger data sets is equally required to enhance generalizability of findings across other non-western environments. Originality/value – This study demonstrated that the SERVQUAL scale is a valid and reliable measure of service quality within the automotive repair services setting in a non-western context with empathy emerging as the most significant dimension of service quality.

Abstract:
This article analyses the factors that considerably influence the efficiency of automobile technical exploitation. It has been noted that automobile technical exploitation is basically determined by the following factors: the system and organizational level of automobile technical maintenance and repairs; the level of service basis; qualification of the staff; the level of stock and supply; the structure and age of automotive fleet and conditions of exploitation. This article presents the analysis of the first factor. The factor is significant enough and does not involve big investments. A theoretical analysis of the system of automobile technical maintenance and repair has been carried out. According to the nature of automobile technical maintenance and repairs two strategies are possible: the planned-preventive and the mixed type. Applying the first strategy the exact number of operations is being planned ahead, but the amount of work remains unknown. According to the second strategy the technical condition of an automobile has to be checked before starting technical maintenance and repair and only then the exact number of operations can be defined. The second strategy makes it possible to save spare parts, materials and time. This strategy, however, can be applied to the automobiles that are in good technical condition. The analysis of automobile technical maintenance and repair organization has shown that in order to improve the efficiency of automobile technical maintenance and repair the laws of mass service theory should be applied.

Abstract:
Abstract: Many automotive components are made of Aluminum alloy. The broken or cracked components are generally replaced with a new product. For the reason of the number of component and cost, recondition is considered as a very profitable solution. So far, the recondition on this alloy component was repaired by using TIG or MIG. However, this alloy is easily oxidized and forms Aluminum oxide. In addition, the alloy is also easy to form a fine cavity and weld cracking. So, the problem to be solved in this work is how to conduct the CFC (Continuous Flow Casting) process so that the repair process produces a joining that is free from cavities and hot cracks. In this work, the objective is to repair an aluminum alloy by using the CFC method. The problem solution is performed by experimental investigation, which is the repair process using CFCs. The surface repairs result was poured by dye penetrant fluid then metallographic examination and hardness testing. From the experimental results obtained that the metallurgical bonding in the connection area is considered good because there is continuity of micro structure between the parent metal and filler metal.

Abstract:
The problem of increasing the dependability of the engine, which is the most complex and expensive unit of an automotive vehicle, cannot be solved without objective and reliable information on the failures and malfunctions of its components, their causes, actual life, as well as the factors affecting such indicators in real operational conditions. Manufacturing factories do not always have such information, hence design deficiency failures associated with design and development flaws are among the most common causes of loss of engine operability. The aim of this paper is to study the engine operational dependability using the results of their maintenance and repair. The methods are based on operational tests of engines that yield the most complete and objective information on their dependability, as they were conducted in typical operational conditions of automobile operating companies in the course of vehicle maintenance and repair. The results of the studies processed with the standard Statistica 6.0 are represented in the form the statistical evaluations of the dependability of primary structural engine components (times to failure, changes in the probability of nofailure depending on the travelled distance). The analysis of the obtained information allows estimating the level of actual dependability of the engine, identifying design flaws, developing specific measures aiming to increase operational dependability. Information obtained during such tests is useful not only to the engine manufacturers, but to the operators as well, as it enables a scientific substantiation of the norms of operability. For the purpose of identification and localization in the process of maintenance and repair of specific engine malfunctions, the paper substantiates a set of diagnostic parameters and their standard values.Conclusions. The research allowed elaborating a set of diagnostic parameters for evaluation of the technical condition of primary engine systems (cylinder-piston group, crank and gas distributing mechanisms) that define and limit its dependability. The application of the findings in the automobile maintenance and repair processes enables a significant improvement of the engines’ operational dependability and reduction of the costs of ensuring their operability.

Abstract:
<strong>Background:</strong> Protection of workers against work-related injuries and illnesses is a growing public health concern. The increasing number of expatriate workers in Dubai has highlighted the need for greater emphasis on occupational health and safety, particularly since unintentional injuries were reported to be the second most common cause of death in the United Arab Emirates. <strong>Objectives:</strong> This cross-sectional study explores safety practices and health perceptions of workers in the automotive repair industry, in the light of the Health Belief Model. <strong>Materials and Methods:</strong> The study included 35 automotive repair industry workers, selected by convenience sampling from an automotive workshop in Dubai. Primary data was collected though a structured interview and walk-through survey. <strong>Results</strong>: Only 10% of the workers had received occupational health and safety training from employers. Though the highest perceived hazardous exposure was to carbon monoxide fumes (62.9%), but the majority did not consider the severity of this exposure high enough to be of concern. This discrepancy in perceived vulnerability despite perceived exposure reflects the lack of awareness on severity of exposure to physical and chemical hazards in the car repair shop. A significant relation was seen between cumulative perceptions to exposure to hazards and marital status of the workers, with married workers perceiving greater exposure to hazards at the workplace. Protective equipment was considered important by 83% of the participants but only 54.5% reported using them. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> There is a dire need for targeted occupational health awareness training and enforcement of safety regulations to ensure the safety of workers in the automotive repair industry.

Abstract:
Recent years have seen a surge in the use of automotive telematics. Telematics is the integration of telecommunications and informatics technologies. Using telematics in cars enables transmission of data communications between the car and other systems or devices. This opens up a wide range of possibilities, including the prospect of conducting remote diagnostics based on real-time access to the vehicle. Yet, as with any new technology, alongside its potential benefits, the use of automotive telematics could also have potential downsides. This Article explores the significant negative impact that the growing reliance on telematics systems could have on competition in the market for repair services. Our analysis highlights two main areas where the use of telematics for vehicle diagnostics may pose a threat to competition and consumer choice. First, we focus on the manner by which manufacturers communicate with their customers via the telematics system. Due to the special relationship between car manufacturers and their consumers, which is often based on trust and loyalty, alongside the “captive audience” status of drivers, we argue that communications emanating from the car’s telematics system could be deceptive. Second, we explore the negative impact that the shift away from on-board diagnostics to telematics could have on independent repair shops’ access to diagnostic information. Fortunately, the law can adapt to keep pace with these new technological and commercial developments. This Article articulates the combined multi-prong, multi-agency policy approach needed to maintain an effective right to repair cars in the new age of telematics. Among other things, our analysis supports an update of state consumer protection legislation and an increased policing by the Federal Trade Commission of practices employed by car manufacturers. In addition, we highlight the need to consider certain amendments to intellectual property laws that effectively aid car manufacturers in maintaining exclusive control over their telematics systems and diagnostic data.

Abstract:
The proficiency of 70 Army automotive mechanics in performing two repair tasks was examined under controlled test conditions. The tasks were installation of a generator and a starter on a tank engine. The subjects were assigned to one of 10 job-experience (JE) categories based on the number of times they had performed the repair tasks. The 10 experience categories ranged from no previous experience to nine or more times. Six dimensions of maintenance proficiency were measured: quality checks, adherence to procedures, repair time, information use, tool selection, and tool use. Overall, proficiency improved markedly for mechanics in the 0 to 5 JE range, peaked between 5 and 6 JE, and declined somewhat for mechanics with more than 6 JE. The job-experience/proficiency function was similar for both repair tasks and all six dimensions of proficiency. The results indicate that job experience could be a valid predictor of maintenance proficiency and training needs if based on an analysis of a larger sample of representative maintenance tasks and validated with a larger subject population.

Abstract:
When repairing automotive components, it is often necessary to solve the issue of re-using rolling bearings within acceptable dimensions. Factories have stopped producing inexpensive devices for repair needs, and when repairing equipment, all rolling bearings are often replaced with new ones, although some old bearings can work reliably until the next repair. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in expanding the functionality of the existing device for measuring the radial clearance in bearings, developing drawings and applying a patent for a device where it is possible to increase the accuracy of measurement in rolling bearings. (Materials and methods) Authors have created technological equipment that allows to reduce the cost of repairs by reusing old parts within acceptable dimensions. (Results and discussion) The article presents the drawings for manufacturing a device for measuring deviations of bearing parameters and patent N 137925 dated February 5, 2014. The device allows to measure radial and axial clearance in the bearings, crater wear on treadmills, ball, ellipse parts (gears, pulleys) and beating of parts in a horizontal plane. (Conclusion) The use of this device allows measuring the bearing clearances quickly and with high precision. The device is simple in design and manufacture, versatile, performs several operations, has small dimensions and high reliability. It reduces the time and labor required for monitoring, reduces the cost of repairs and improves the quality of repairs by increasing the resource of repaired parts.

Abstract:
Laminated structures are assembled so that the fibre orientation provides most of desired mechanical properties and the matrix largely determines the environmental performance. Composites laminate structures are used in a wide range of applications in aerospace, marine, automotive, surface transport and sports equipment markets. Damage to composite components is not always visible to the naked eye and the extent of damage is best determined for structural components by suitable Non Destructive Test (NDT) methods. Alternatively the damaged areas can be located by simply tapping the composite surface and listening to the sound. The damaged areas give a dull response to the tapping, and the boundary between the good and damaged composite can easily be mapped to identify the area for repair. Awareness of and inspection for composite damage should be included in the regular maintenance schedules for composite structures. Particular attention would be made to areas which are more prone to damage. The repair can be done by using composite itself or bio-composite. Bio-composite is a reinforcement of natural fibre such as plant and a material that formed by matrix or resin. Then repairs to aircraft structures are controlled and should be carried out according to the Aircraft Structural Repair Manual (SRM). For other applications the repaired components would normally be expected to meet the original specifications and mechanical performance requirements. This paper presents the fabrication technique including patch repair by using bio-composite which is kenaf and its aim to give a general approach to composite fabrication on patch repair in all applications. Through the described approach, the life of the structure is expanded and met the properties requirements such as low cost, fairly good mechanical properties, high specific strength, non-abrasive, eco-friendly and bio-degradability characteristics.

Abstract:
Due to stricter CO2 emission limits, new competitors and imminent driving bans, electromobility has registered high growth rates in Austria. The rising number of electric vehicles not only has an impact on automobile production and its suppliers, but also on the after-sales business with the focus on the repair market. In order to meet these requirements, automotive workshops have to redesign and realign their organizational structures and they have to compensate their decreasing service-revenues. Electromobility requires additional qualification and training of employees and the expansion of technical equipment. Small workshops especially are facing this challenge. In order to obtain an answer to the current status of service companies, a qualitative study was carried out and the status was determined based on expert interviews. Recommendations for action can be derived as a result and it can be shown that there is a big difference between the independent and authorised workshops.

Abstract:
Purpose. To develop the method for increasing the efficiency of the equipment’s maintenance and repair system, ensuring necessary level of operational reliability of the equipment, safety and reliability of the electric equipment with minimal expenses on operation. Relevance. Aging of the power equipment in railway power supply systems sharply raised a need for assessment of its states and degree of risk for operation outside rated service life. In critical conditions of technological processes and operational modes of the railways it is necessary to increase the equipment’s operational reliability. The scheduled maintenance and repair system whose main technical and economic criterion is the minimum of equipment’s downtimes on the basis of a rigid regulation of repair cycles, in the conditions of market regulations in the field of repair in many cases does not provide the optimal decisions due to insufficient financing. The solution of this problem is possible by improvement of the maintenance and repair system. Under these conditions the main direction for supporting the operational reliability of power electric equipment on TS is a development of the modern methods based on individual supervision over real changes of technical condition of power equipment. Scientific novelty. In this article the authors proposed an integrated approach, on the basis of which can be developed the effective maintenance and repair system for traction power supply systems. Proposed approach allowed to react quickly to changes of service conditions on traction substations, to control the technical condition of power electric equipment under the conditions of uncertainty, to establish interrelation between quality of service and operational reliability of the equipment, to choose a service strategy on traction substations. Practical importance. The validity of the developed method was confirmed by the results of calculations and practically by choosing the optimal maintenance's option for transformer TDTN-25000/150-70 U1 (ТДТН-25000/150-70 У1) on traction power supply substation.

Abstract:
This paper provides an in-depth analysis and discussion of the key issues of quality management, evaluation, and detection contained in big data for automotive application scenarios. A generalized big data quality management model and programming framework are proposed, and a series of data quality detection and repair interfaces are built to express the processing semantics of various data quality issues. Through this data quality management model and detection and repair interfaces, users can quickly build custom data quality detection and repair tasks for different data quality requirements. To improve the operational efficiency of complex data quality management algorithms in large-scale data scenarios, corresponding parallelization algorithms are studied and implemented for detection and repair algorithms with long computation time, including priority-based multiconditional function-dependent detection and repair algorithms, entity detection, and extraction algorithms based on semantic information and chunking techniques, and plain Bayesian-based missing value filling algorithms, and this paper proposes a data validity evaluation algorithm and enhances the validity of the original data in practical applications by adding temporal weights, and finally it passed the experimental validation. Through the comprehensive detection process of data importance, network busyness, duration of transmission process, and failure situation, the efficiency has been increased by 20%, and an adaptive data integrity detection method based on random algorithm and encryption algorithm is designed. After experimental verification, this method can effectively detect the integrity of the data transmission process and improve the application of data value, and the final effect is increased by 30.5%.

Abstract:
In this study, we model the warranty claims process and evaluate the warranty servicing costs under non-renewing, renewing and restricted renewing free repair warranties. We assume that the repair time for rectifying the claims is non-zero and the repair cost is a function of the length of the repair time. To accommodate the ageing of the product and repair equipment, we use a decreasing geometric process to model the consecutive operational times and an increasing geometric process to model the consecutive repair times. We identify and study the alternating geometric process, which is an alternating process with cycles consisting of the item’s operational time followed by the corresponding repair time. We derive new results for the alternating geometric process in a finite horizon and use them to evaluate the warranty costs over the warranty period and over the life cycle of the product under a non-renewing free repair warranty, a renewing free repair warranty and a restricted renewing free repair warranty. Properties of the model are demonstrated using a simulation study and by fitting the models to real data from an automotive manufacturer.

Abstract:
In the circular economy, products, components, and materials are aimed to be kept at the utility and value all the lifetime. For this purpose, repair and remanufacturing are highly considered as proper techniques to return the value of the product during its life. Directed Energy Deposition (DED) is a very flexible type of additive manufacturing (AM), and among the AM techniques, it is most suitable for repairing and remanufacturing automotive and aerospace components. Its application allows damaged component to be repaired, and material lost in service to be replaced to restore the part to its original shape. In the past, tungsten inert gas welding was used as the main repair method. However, its heat affected zone is larger, and the quality is inferior. In comparison with the conventional welding processes, repair via DED has more advantages, including lower heat input, warpage and distortion, higher cooling rate, lower dilution rate, excellent metallurgical bonding between the deposited layers, high precision, and suitability for full automation. Hence, the proposed repairing method based on DED appears to be a capable method of repairing. Therefore, the focus of this study was to present an overview of the DED process and its role in the repairing of metallic components. The outcomes of this study confirm the significant capability of DED process as a repair and remanufacturing technology.

This paper deals with the undesired effects of the heat treatments on the mechanical properties of (UHSS) Ultra High Strength Steel used nowadays in automotive industry to improve crashworthiness performance of vehicles. The UHSS specimens were extracted from certain parts of the car body and subjected to different heat treatments. Four types of specimens were tested: untreated, welded with metal inert gas welding, heat treated at 800 °C, and heat treated at 1250 °C. All heat-treated specimens showed dramatically reduced values of strength. The results suggest that it is important to follow the official repair manuals avoiding unnecessary welding and improper heat treatments of UHSS. The experiments provide the data necessary for constructing a constitutive model and performing a finite-element analysis of improperly repaired UHSS parts.

The paper analyzes the operating conditions of road transport affecting its reliability. It is concluded that it is necessary to develop scientifically based strategies flexible of AE maintenance based on predicting the failure moment by extrapolating the process of time drift of the informative parameters of the AE at the interval of its intended use. To solve this problem, we propose an approach based on the use of quasi-deterministic models of the time drift of the AE parameters, which allow to obtain analytical expressions for the main reliability indicators -density of the distribution time to failure and the probability of failure -free operation at a given time interval. On the basis of these indicators of reliability in operation, performance indicators have been formed allowing determining of the optimal maintenance frequency. In the final part of the article, the author proposes an algorithm and a methodology that allows organizing flexible strategies for AE maintenance, considering special conditions of its operation.

Abstract:
The efficiency of road transport is based on the reliability of the vehicle fleet, as well as the safety of its operation, which is ensured by the timely diagnosis of faults and the quality of maintenance and related repairs. Despite constant technical progress in the field of automotive industry, creation of technological equipment for maintenance and repair of the vehicle fleet, as well as new reasonable approaches to operation, the problem of developing an integrated system for managing the operation of road transport in order to ensure road safety remains urgent. In addition to the collection, storage and primary data processing module, such a system should include a specialized decision support module. In this regard, the scientific goal of the work is formulated—the development of an intelligent core for the management system for vehicles’ technical inspection. The mathematical model of the functioning of the technical inspection point is based. On its basis, the simulation model is constructed. The goal function is the amount of revenue from the provision of technical inspection and subsequent repair, minus losses due to equipment and workers idle time. A planfactor computer experiment was conducted, the number of repair workers, diagnostic lines, workers on the diagnostic lines that provide the maximum of the goal function were found.

Abstract:
Using Bayesian Network is currently an effective solution to automotive fault diagnosis. However, Bayesian Networks can only be used to reason and calculate probability of component failure. During a fault troubleshooting process, apart from fault probability, diagnostic engineers also need consider the utilities of repair actions to make a sensible repair decision. The paper extends a Bayesian Network to a Bayesian influence diagram, which integrates the influences of both probability and utility. An automobile engine start-up failure is used as a case study to establish troubleshooting decision influence diagram. The diagram combines failure causes, decision actions with their utilities and is able to reason and calculate the expected utilities of each action. Troubleshooters choose faulty component with the highest utility to repair. The method ensures the most sensible repair action is selected in each troubleshooting step.
