Abstract:
The hypothesis that high heart rate and low perceived skill would be associated with greater return of fear than low heart rate and high perceived skill was investigated in a group of anxious musical performers (N=63) in response to an anxiety-reduction training program. Musicians were taught progressive muscle relaxation and attention-focusing skills over the course of four weekly meetings. Return of subjective fear was assessed between training program sessions and at a three-month followup assessment. The three major fear response systems were measured at pre, post and followup assessments

Abstract:
Ego-resiliency (ER) is a trait that describes the ability to cope with stress, while effortful control (EC) is an individual difference related to the ability to optimally inhibit negative emotion through attentional mechanisms. ER has been linked to flexible cardiovascular responding without accounting for autonomic nervous system origins of physiological responses. Similarly, EC tends to be associated with increased cardiac vagal control. However, differences in the autonomic characteristics of these constructs remain unclear. In the current study, it was hypothesized that compared to low-sc

Dabei könnte eine autonome Dysfunktion eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Abstract Autonomic nervous system (ANS) disturbances are common in Parkinson's disease (PD), but also in other Parkinsonian syndromes, especially in multiple system atrophy (MSA). The differentiation between various Parkinsonian syndromes may be difficult, but it is important for prognostic and therapeutic purposes. The aim of this study was to determine the ability of different analysis methods to reveal cardiovascular regulation disturbances in PD and to evaluate the diagnostic capacity of autonomic tests to differentiate between various Parkinsonian syndromes. Furthermore, this study

Introduction: Sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) undergoes physiological modulation by respiration but it remains unclear whether this process is altered by age and hypertension. Aims: To establish relationship between respiration and neural regulation of the cardiovascular system in aging and hypertension. Methods: Multiunit muscle SNA, BP, respiratory parameters and heart rate were recorded at rest in young and older healthy men and hypertensive patients, then repeated in hypertensive group after acute and long-term device-guided slow deep-breathing (SDB) training. Results: Muscle SNA was high
