Abstract The use of treated wastewater effluent for industrial purposes holds the promise of an economical source of water in a State with limited conventional fresh water resources such as Texas. By combining water reuse and increased water use efficiency with the development of conventional resources such as groundwater and new surface water reservoirs, we can ensure that water is available for industrial growth into the foreseeable future. Reuse holds some specific advantages as a future resource for industry, including: Effluent from municipal wastewater plants is a drought-proof water sou

Abstract European and Japanese developments of technologies for coal-fired power plants employing advanced steam conditions have resulted in Fe-Cr alloys that appear to have acceptable strength up to 620°C (1148°F) or possibly 650°C (1202°F). However, these alloys have relatively low Cr contents (up to 13 percent), which are marginal for the formation of protective oxide scales at these temperatures. Since there is no practical experience with alloys of this type in steam at elevated temperatures, information on their oxidation behavior in steam, in particular their rate of oxidation, is neede

Abstract The effectiveness of two commercially available vapor phase corrosion inhibitors (VCIs) and one industrial desiccant wheel (DEW) dehumidifier are evaluated for the corrosion protection of advanced double hull (ADH) compartments on naval ships. Small-scale ADH compartments were constructed to simulate the environmental conditions likely to be encountered in service. The three simulated environments of interest were (1) air filled, sealed compartments, (2) compartments with a leak allowing humid air ingress, and (3) compartments with a seawater spill or leak. Abstract:
This review of the literature on suicide prevention programs targeting people who identify as LGBTQI found scant research in this area. However, the available evidence allows tentative directions to be drawn to guide prevention efforts targeting this group. Studies included in the review looked at legislative initiatives (e.g. same-sex marriage), community programs and therapeutic interventions. Legislation was found to play an important role by promoting equality and prohibiting discrimination and school based programs appear to show promise in reducing suicide among LGBQTI youth. This project focuses on developing more realistic and precise girth weld integrity assessment procedures than those currently available to the pipeline industry. It builds up the framework of reliability-based girth weld integrity assessment procedure established in two preavious projects. The concept and reliability-based procedure established in the previous work and the associated GirthRel software showed good promise. However, the deterministic procedure embedded in its reliability-based procedure and its software was not as rigorous and accurate as more recently developed deterministic

The use of drone technology in capital projects is an emerging area that holds promise for growth. Drones are becoming more widely available, and regulatory bodies are gradually allowing their use on a larger scale. With the development of software solutions that can effectively utilize data, drones are increasingly being used throughout the entire lifecycle of capital projects, including smaller infrastructure projects. The benefits of using drones in construction projects are numerous and include providing an unparalleled record of all activities, reducing planning and survey costs, increasi

There are several techniques available to inspect single wall carbon steel pipelines including; Magnetic flux leakage (MFL), ultrasonic testing (UT), Electro-Magnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT), Phased Array, guide wave testing (GWT), etc. However, for more complex structures such as flexible pipelines the technology available to inspect them is far more limited. A review of currently used pipe-locating techniques and technologies shows a universally conservative approach to system design. Emerging technologies also hold promise for upgrading performance by improving, rather than changing the basic sensors. This study was undertaken to survey and eva

Casing corrosion in storage wells is a matter of considerable concern to the gas storage industry. Such wells are typically flowed through the casing rather than through production tubing, to facilitate high flow capacities. When failures occur, gas leakage to surrounding formations, freshwater zones and to the surface can pose a sizable economic loss as well as a serious safety hazard. For these reasons, monitoring corrosion in down-hole casing in gas storage fields has become a major concern of many storage field operators, and the in situ detection and assessment of corrosion damage by mean
