Triacylglycerides (TAGs) produced via the syngas fermentation of biogenic residues and wastes were evaluated as a potential feedstock for advanced road transportation, aviation, and maritime drop-in fuels via hydroprocessing technology. Due to the limited availability of TAGs, a simulated feedstock (SM TAGs) was utilized by blending various commercial oils, simulating the fatty acid composition of TAGs. At first, the simulated feedstock and the real TAGs were hydrotreated on a TRL 4 (technology readiness level) pilot plant to evaluate the potential of the SM feedstock to simulate the TAGs base

Over the years, leaked fluids from aircraft have caused severe deterioration of airfield pavement. The combined effect of hot exhaust from the auxiliary power unit of military aircraft and spilt aviation oils have caused rapid pavement spalling. If the disintegrated concreted pieces caused by spalling are sucked into the jet engine, they may cause catastrophic damage to the aircraft engine or physical injury to maintenance crews. This study investigates the effectiveness of incorporating hybrid fibres into ordinary concrete to improve the residual mechanical and thermal properties to prevent s

Flame spreading over liquid fuels is a common phenomenon involving in accidental fuel leakage in aircraft crash or oil tanker which may result in many casualties and economic losses. Comparative experiments are conducted concerning flame spread over aviation kerosene (RP5) and 0# diesel at a variety of initial fuel temperatures. The threshold value of initial fuel temperature for liquid-phase and gas-phase controlled flame spread is approximately 17 °C larger than liquid’s flashpoint for both oils. For a given initial fuel temperature, due to low volatility and ignitability of 0# diesel, its f

The paper discusses the results of a kinetic study of the thermal decomposition of MS-8P, TN-98, and TN-600 aviation oils under conditions of continuous heating at a constant rate of 5 K/min to a temperature of 1 073 K. An integral method was used to describe the reaction mechanism and determine the macrokinetic parameters. It has been established that, from a phenomenological point of view, the average reaction of aviation oils conversion under the experimental conditions corresponds to the reaction model described by the surface-limited reaction equation (MS-8P), the power law (TN-98) and th

The use of biofuels represents a promising means of achieving a sustainable future and offers considerable economic and environmental benefits. Since they are derived from organic sources, such as vegetable oils and animal fats, biofuels can mitigate the effects of greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, support local agriculture, create employment opportunities, and enhance energy security by reducing dependence on fossil fuels. However, introducing these alternative fuels to the aviation sector remains a significant challenge. Thus, it is vital to investigate the potential of sustaina

The fuel that has been selected is the F-34, similar to Jet A-1, which is used in civil aviation, in order to replace diesel fuel in many applications. It has to be mentioned that tests performed with this fuel, which is kerosene type on the high frequency reciprocating rig (HFRR) have shown that such fuel is respo

Symmetrical, unsymmetrical esters of 1,1,1-trimetilolpropan (TMP) with C6-C8 aliphatic monocarboxylic acids have been synthesized. Their physicochemical, viscosity-temperature, thermal-oxidative (TOS) properties have been studied. It was found that esters have relatively low viscosities at 100 oC (3.55–4.39 mm2/s), high flash points (198–220 oC) and viscosity index (110–121 units), low freezing temperature (minus 50 oC ÷ minus 58 oС) and viscosity at – 40 oС (2800–3310 mm2/s). Also, the esters are distinguished by high thermal and oxidative stability: low volatility – 0.18–0.40 wt %, sediment
