Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper in information literacy assessment is to explore how library training can promote electronic resource usage. Increasing the usage of electronic resources is an issue of concern for many libraries all over the world. Several studies stress the importance of information literacy and instruction to increase the usage. Design/methodology/approach The present article presents the results of implementing training programmes to increase the use of the e-library. Findings Training sessions increase the usage of library e-resources significantly; however, the effect seems to be short-lived and training sessions alone may not increase the overall long-term usage. Originality/value The present paper presents a study of training sessions as means to increase awareness and usage of library e-resources. Implications for the planning of training are discussed.

Abstract:
Information technology (IT) has thrown a new challenge to the libraries. The technology has shown a great impact on the services of the libraries. Libraries use IT for better services and satisfying diverse user needs. Libraries have transformed into digital and virtual libraries where books, journals, and magazines have changed into e-books, e-journals, and e-zines. This has increased the global dissemination of information. Electronic resources (e-resources) are easily accessible in the remote areas. The e-resources solve storage problems and control the flood of information. Print sources are being digitized. There is a great need to study the use of e-resources and investigate the factors that are a hindrance to their use. The present study is an attempt to examine the usage of electronic resources at IIT Delhi. The study confirmed that respondents were aware of the e-resources and various types of e-resources, e-database, and e-journals. The study recommended the improvement in the access facilities with high internet speed and subscription to more e-resources.

Abstract:
Electronic resources are invaluable tools in research and academics. Their emergence and use have been major issues of discussion in scientific practice and literature. While some institutions have enjoyed using e-resources for some time now, others have recorded low usage. This study has revealed various challenges of EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries) e-resources usage in ZALICO (Zambian Library Consortium) institutions. Today, ZALICO has access to over 30 databases from reputable publishers, most of which come under open access through EIFL membership. Despite having been with EIFL for more than a decade, ZALICO members still experience the low usage of electronic resources. The real causes of low usage of e-resources at the institutional level are not clear hence the need to establish factors behind this problem and the way to solve it. This picture may be worrying as the consortium continues to spend financial means on e-resources that are not appreciated by users. Other concerns may be on the quality of literature users are using in their academic activities. The main aim of the study was to establish factors behind the low usage of EIFL resources among ZALICO institutions. The study examined these issues as a case study. The questionnaire and usage analysis were used for data collection. The Statistic Package for Social Sciences software and Microsoft Excel were used for analyzing quantitative data, while content analysis was used for qualitative data from the questionnaire open-ended questions. The study reveals various access and usage challenges such as poor Internet connections, inadequate search skills among users, ineffective e-resources promotion strategies resulting in low awareness levels, problems of registration to EIFL resources, and non-proactive librarians. To improve the situation, the research identifies four undertakings: continuous user training, more sensitizations and promotions of e-resources using various methods, improved Internet connections (increased bandwidth, provision of more hot spots at various locations and increased Internet access points), and training of institutional librarians on the registration process as it is deemed to be cumbersome.

Abstract:
We sought to examine predictors of psychological distress among employees as well as the level of awareness and usage of available mental health resources by employees through their own organizations. The Malaysian Healthiest Workplace survey cross-sectional dataset was used to explore the association between psychological distress, a range of health conditions, as well as mental health resource awareness and usage in a sample of 11,356 working Malaysian adults. A multivariate logistic regression was conducted to determine predictors of high psychological distress. Comorbid illnesses that were associated with psychological distress were mental illness (OR 6.7, 95% CI 4.39–10.14, p = 0.001), heart conditions (OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.18–3.99, p = 0.012), migraines (OR 1.59, 95% CI 1.33–1.90, p = 0.001), bronchial asthma (OR 1.43, 95% CI 1.11–1.85, p = 0.006), and hypertension (OR 1.42, 95% CI 1.07–1.88, p = 0.016) compared to individuals with no comorbid conditions. A total of 14 out of 17 comorbid medical illnesses were associated with elevated levels of psychological distress among employees. Awareness and usage of support services and resources for mental health were associated with lower psychological distress. These findings extend the literature by providing further evidence on the link between chronic illness, occupational type, as well as awareness and use of mental health resources by psychological distress status.

Abstract:
Purpose Emphasis of previous research on e-banking has been on factors that influence its adoption or constraints to the adoption or the extent to which customer awareness influences its adoption. This study investigated “Exposure to/usage of e-banking channels: Implications for customer awareness and attitude in Nigeria”. The purpose of this paper is to determine the extent to which consumers’ exposure to and usage of e-banking channels influence their awareness and attitude towards e-banking in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach The study used the quantitative research design; specifically, the conclusive research design was used and data collection was done through the survey method. The population of the study consisted of the customers of EcoBank, First bank and Zenith bank in Edo, Kogi and Kwara states of Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was used to elicit the desired data from 480 respondents selected from 30 branches of 3 banks in two states. One sample t test was used to test for significance of the usage of e-banking channels to customers’ awareness and attitude towards e-banking. Subsequently, regression analysis was performed to determine the predictive power of the e-banking channels. Findings Customers’ exposure to and usage of ATM, internet banking and mobile banking has significant influence on consumers’ attitude towards e-banking in Nigeria. In view of the findings, a modified model of customer usage and attitude towards e-banking in Nigeria is proposed. Research limitations/implications The customer’s inability to exercise absolute right on the banking option to use at all times and the non-inclusion of other channels of e-banking whose usage can influence consumers’ awareness and attitude towards e-banking. Practical implications The need for financial institutions, especially banks, to expose their customers to e-banking channels to demystify their fears as well as increase their awareness and thus influence their attitude to e-banking. Social implications Exposure of bank customers to e-banking will reduce cash transactions and thus help to significantly reduce social vices associated with physical cash, especially armed robbery. Originality/value The work is a departure from previous studies because it is the only one that has emphazised exposure to e-banking as a solution to awareness creation and positive attitude of customers. Its value lies in its potential to make e-banking user friendly in no distance time.

Abstract:
Conservation is the proper management of natural resources to prevent its exploitation, destruction or degradation. India is blessed with natural resources but these resources from our research study on the usage of natural resources are depleting every day. As we know nature provides all the basic needs which are necessary to us but we are over exploiting or over using these resources. Conservation of natural resources has acquired great attention at present. It is high time that man must realize of the grave consequences of his action which are damaging the environment beyond repair. If we continue exploit the nature, there will be no more natural resources available in the future. So, there is an urgent need to conserve the nature for future. Society participation in the conservation of natural resources is vital importance so we must get them involved in this national task. A society, a state, a country, the whole world is a collection of individuals in a final analysis. Therefore, if individual does his or her duty to perfection, the whole world can become less pollution free and we can conserve our natural resources. It is the duty of us to spread awareness among the society in this regard.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide practical guidance to business librarians in academic and public libraries for applying essential concepts of licensing electronic resources in entrepreneurial contexts. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is an outcome of a preconference presentation on licensing business resources, based on the practical experience of the authors in licensing and vendor negotiations. It also presents results of the preconference presurvey, gauging awareness among business librarians about licensing concepts and concerns about the usage of licensed databases by entrepreneurs. Findings – For-profit goals of entrepreneurs using library e-resources lead to concerns among business librarians about compliance with non-commercial clauses of library license agreements and potentially to unnecessary restrictions on patrons’ database use. License agreements of business e-resources are likely to have more restrictive terms of use because of perceived value of their intellectual property by vendors, a wider range of content types and clauses carried over from commercial license agreements. Business librarians generally have only basic awareness of licensing concepts. Because of organizational silos, special terms of use sometimes are not clearly conveyed from the licensing staff to librarians who work directly with entrepreneurs. Practical implications – The paper proposes a definition of entrepreneurial uses of licensed e-resources and practical approaches to manage compliance risk. Originality/value – The paper provides a practical framework for business librarians to assess compliance with license agreements in the context of entrepreneurial uses.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explore the requirements of the Malta College of Arts Science and Technology (MCAST) library users and to propose an adequate solution to their academic needs. The present study also examines the current scenario at MCAST in relation to the usage and awareness of e-resources. A quantitative research approach was adopted for this study with a survey as a research instrument. This paper is based on a previous investigation conducted to better understand user satisfaction and associated issues. Like in any other area, librarianship and innovation walk hand in hand. In this case, digitalisation can be seen as both a challenge and an opportunity. MCAST Library is no exception. Prior to 2020, there was already a demand for more electronic resources in response to the addition of new courses. A thorough search was then conducted by the library team to find a solution to the users’ requirements. The selection of the ideal database was mainly based upon two variables. Firstly, its proper coverage of all the institutes was ensured. Secondly, the presence of new resources that are not duplicated in the databases available to MCAST at that time was confirmed. Following the analysis of feedback and comments obtained through an online questionnaire, the library focused on IEEE Xplore as it satisfied most of the requirements. Following the successful initial trial runs and the report of subsequent usage, the IEEE database was acquired. The provision of electronic resources indicates a boost in quality research amongst MCAST students, faculty, and researchers.

Full text
Abstract:
Visible light communications are considered as a promising solution for inter-vehicle communications, which in turn can significantly enhance the traffic safety and efficiency. However, the vehicular visible light communications (VLC) channel is highly dynamic, very unpredictable, and subject to many noise sources. Enhancing VLC systems with self-aware capabilities would maximize the communication performances and efficiency, whatever the environmental conditions. Within this context, this letter proposes a novel signal to noise ratio (SNR)-adaptive visible light communication receiver architecture aimed for automotive applications. The novelty of this letter comes from an open loop signal processing technique in which the signal treatment complexity is established based on a real-time SNR analysis. So, the receiver evaluates the SNR, and based on this assessment, it reconfigures its structural design in order to ensure a proper signal treatment, while providing an optimal tradeoff between communication performances and computational resources usage. This approach based on software reconfiguration has the potential to provide the system with enhanced flexibility and enables its usage in resource sharing application. As far as we know, this approach has not been considered in vehicular VLC systems. The performances of the proposed architecture are demonstrated by simulations, which confirm the SNR-adaptive capacity and the optimized performances.

Abstract:
This article deals with use of global energy sources and their environmental impacts. The energy sources have been split into three categories: fossil fuels (oil-coal-natural gas), renewable sources, and nuclear sources. Oil and gas are expected to continue to be important sources of energy. New efficient and cost-effective small-scale renewable energy generation options are commercially available today. The share of renewable energy sources is expected to increase very significantly. Recently, environmental problems resulting from energy production, conversion, and utilization have caused increased public awareness in all sectors of the public, industry, and government in both developed and developing countries. The environmental impact of energy use can be seen in two ways: The utilization of limited natural resources and the stress caused by environmental pollution. To combat that environmental damage, exploring and exploiting the utilization of combustible renewables and waste would be a necessary measure for decreasing the environmental impact of energy use.

Abstract:
School learners are attractive candidates for cyber-safety attacks. Advances in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) devices, and the surge in Internet usage, poses significant risks to users with poor cyber-safety awareness and security practices. An example of such users are school learners. Therefore, school learners should be made aware of cyber-safety or safe Internet usage, through awareness programmes as early as possible. Applying the classical Theory of Planned Behaviour in a survey of 109 schoolteachers across 18 schools in 2 districts, the results of a multiple regression analysis unveil that: 1) attitude does not predict the schoolteachers’ intention to raise cyber-safety awareness at their schools in the next 12 months, nor does it predict the schoolteachers’ behaviour of raising cyber-safety awareness in their teaching; and 2) subjective norms and perceived behavioural control predict the schoolteachers’ intention and behaviour. In light of this, the South African Department of Basic Education (DBE) is encouraged to identify influential schoolteachers (i.e. phase heads, sports and cultural coordinators, principals and their deputies, etc.), and to groom them into cyber-safety awareness advocates, for the purposes of influencing other teachers or their peers. Also, the DBE should provide teachers with the requisite resources, opportunities, and support which facilitates cyber-safety awareness in schools, to empower teachers to adopt this highly desired behaviour.

Abstract:
Little is known about how information professionals perceive themselves in the competitive intelligence (CI) work domain. There is a dearth of scholarly attention on their social identities in CI, their involvement with CI, and how their engagement impacts the usage of corporate information agency resources by CI practitioners. The goal of this study is to create a benchmark knowledge base addressing these issues. We developed five constructs — awareness of CI functioning in the organisation, perceived identity toward CI, perceived involvement in CI work, frequency of interactivities with CI practitioners, and perceived usage of corporate information agency resources — and attempted to propose and validate a causal model connecting these constructs. Data were collected through a survey of 86 information professionals, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and partial least squares (PLS). Our major findings include: few respondents identified themselves exclusively as CI professionals; the respondents collectively had a low CI-involvement level; perceived identity influenced perceived involvement; and both perceived involvement and frequency of interactivities influenced the usage of corporate information agency resources. These findings could influence the design of future CI programs and the education programs for new information professionals.

Abstract:
The research paper proposes an effective solution to the critical problem of management of water resources. With the growing awareness of the need for water conservation, the world is gearing to accommodate and implement latest technology for the optimum utilisation of the drying up reservoirs. This paper aims at developing a cost effective, portable and ready to plug mechanism labelled as “Innovative Smart Water Management System Using Artificial Intelligence” which shall monitor the proportion of water usage per household and keep a tracking on metric usage on the water usage on a weekly, monthly or a yearly basis. The data generated will be established and collected in the Firebase server. Based on the collected data, it shall also make predictions on the usage and hence allocate resources in a controlled fashion as per requirement. Later the data will be modelled in Time Series fashion to generate real time prediction of water consumption for the household respectively. The water consumer can track the usage by a custom-made android application on MIT App Inventor. Extensive, detailed instructions have been provided on the initial setup procedure and installation. The water monitoring module is used on a daily basis and a tab is kept on the amount of water spilled. This will keep a check on the casual approach of people towards water. It will also encourage a more systematic method to handle water resources and hence would result in better conservation efforts

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to establish the level of use of the electronic resources at the University of Venda, which is one of the previously disadvantaged universities in South Africa. It identifies the different electronic resources used at the university, determines the level of awareness and training in the use of these resources and suggests ways in which electronic resources may be enhanced. The rapid changes in the information and communication technology (ICTs) have influenced service delivery in academic libraries in terms of how information is gathered, accessed, retrieved and used. Hence, electronic resources are invaluable research tools in academic libraries in the twenty-first century. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative research methodology was adopted, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with each participant to get in-depth information. The target population was all third-year students registered with the School of Human and Social Sciences at the University of Venda. The third year undergraduate students from this particular school where chosen because statistics revealed that these students where ranked among the top in the use of computers. Findings The findings revealed that the level of usage of these resources by undergraduate students is elementary and limited to SABINET and EBSCO host. Undergraduate student’s level of awareness of the different electronic resources is low. They confused electronic resources to Web-based internet sources. It also revealed that the level of awareness and training in the use of these resources is still generic, as training is mostly a once off orientation at the first year. Research limitations/implications This paper focuses on third year undergraduate students who were using computers because the researchers were interested in finding out whether students using computers were also using electronic resources. It excluded other profiles such as age, gender and computer usage behaviour of electronic resources. Practical implications Adequate use and knowledge of electronic resources at universities is instrumental towards realisation of the country’s ICT Strategy and the outcome-based education (OBE) model of teaching movement. Suggestions are made to the university, the university library, university librarians and the Library Association of South Africa on how to enhance the use of electronic resources. Originality/value It establishes the level of use of electronic resources in one of South African historically disadvantaged universities, a point of contact to other previously South African disadvantaged universities and make suggestions on how electronic resources may be enhanced. It adds to the body of knowledge on the use of electronic resources in academic libraries in South African universities.

Abstract:
The theoretical understanding suggests that geotourism relates tourism and geology in such a way that the public can experience the earth’s geological wonders with environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation, and conservation through formal and informal education. With proper enforcement emplaced, this idea of protection through usage should lead to an increase in ecological and socio-cultural awareness and behaviour among geotourists and local guardians of geological heritage. In the prospect of geotourism, geotourists and local public are related in a way that the former play its part in geoheritage conservation through visiting geological heritages while expenditures spent by geotourists contributed to the gross income of the latter and partially to the nation through various tax structures. These economic benefit as well as environmental incentives of geotourism would encourage local public to embrace into geotourism industry and geoheritage conservation. Thus, when these mechanisms work perfectly, geotourism will offer one realistic key solution to the apparent conflict between environmental and cultural protection, and economic growth.

Abstract:
The Comprehensive Assessment of Systems for Built Environment Efficiency (CASBEE) for Home is the first national voluntary Green Building Program for residential structures in Japan. The effect of builder demographic factors on the adoption of the CASBEE for Home program were investigated since the success of CASBEE for Home will be heavily reliant on the usage of the program. In this study, the adoption of the CASBEE for Home program by home builders is modeled as a two-stage process with builder awareness preceding the actual use of CASBEE for Home. The results show that both firm size and the type of homes built influence Japanese builder's awareness of the CASBEE for Home program. In addition, respondents who had participated in the 200-Year House Program, another voluntary program, were significantly more likely to use CASBEE for Home. Finally, the number of years a builder has been in business both increased their awareness and usage of the CASBEE for Home program. Our results suggest that the likelihood of adopting the CASBEE for Home program was influenced by the internal resources available, the type of customers being served, and the business experience of the firm.

Abstract:
As the energy efficiency remains a key issue in wireless sensor networks, duty-cycled mechanisms acquired much interest due to their ability to reduce energy consumption by allowing sensor nodes to switch to the sleeping state whenever possible. The challenging task is to authorize a sensor node to adopt a duty-cycle mode without inflicting any negative impact on the performance of the network. A context-aware paradigm allows sensors to adapt their functional behavior according to the context in order to enhance network performances. In this context, the authors propose an enhanced version the Efficient Context-Aware Multi-hop Broadcasting (E-ECAB) protocol, which combines the advantages of context awareness by considering a multi criteria and duty-cycle technique in order to optimize resources usage and satisfy the application requirements. Simulation results show that E-ECAB achieves a significant improvement in term of throughput and end-to-end delay without sacrificing energy efficiency.

Abstract:
Global virtual water trade was quantitatively estimated and evaluated. The basic idea of how to estimate unit requirement of water resources to produce each commodity is introduced and values for major agricultural and stock products are presented. The concept of virtual water and the quantitative estimates can help in assessing a more realistic water scarcity index in each country, projecting future water demand for food supply, increasing public awareness on water, and identifying the processes wasting water in the production. Really required water in exporting countries is generally smaller than virtually required water in importing countries, reflecting the comparative advantage of water use efficiency, and it is estimated to be 680 km3/y for 2000. On the contrary the virtually required water for the same year is estimated to be 1,130 km3/y, and the difference of 450 km3/y is virtually saved by global trade. However, solely virtual water should not be used for any decision making since the idea of virtual water implies only the usage and influence of water and no concerns on social, cultural, and environmental implications. Virtual water trade also does not consider other limiting factors than water.

Abstract:
Digital literacy skills are important, for university students, who are qualified human resources of countries, to have the digital literacy skills to meet the needs of the current age. However, in university libraries where digital technology is used extensively, it is thought that users who do not have or have low digital lit-eracy skills will not benefit from these libraries in the maximum level possible. It is therefore recognized that the determination of the digital literacy levels of the users, to whom services are provided, is important in diversifying the services and training provided to the users. This study is conducted in order to determine the current awareness and skills of students in relation to digital literacy studying in the first grade of departments of Psychology, History, Turkish Language and Literature (TLL), and Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures (CTDL) at Bartın University. Using quantitative research method, the data used in this study was obtained by using survey technique. Within the framework of the responses of 226 participants to the survey questions, the study investigated whether there were any differences between students' digital literacy skills and awareness on the basis of departments and technology usage habits. The study shows that students' skills and awareness about digital literacy vary according to the departments they study in and their technology usage habits. It is observed that the Psychology de-partment received the highest average for the information technology usage habits among the participants.

Abstract:
Information Security Awareness, though known as a primary and important issue in the domain of Information Security, CSI computer crime and security survey showed poor security awareness training in public and private sectors. In many studies, the authors have found that the usage of knowledge maps helps the process of learning and conception building. Therefore, the authors have tried to figure out if the implementation of knowledge maps on the training materials of Information Security Awareness will improve the learning performance. Based on the e-learning materials for E-Mail Information Security Awareness, the authors designed them in the format of knowledge maps and compared the learning performance with common browsing-based materials. The results showed the knowledge map-based materials lead to higher learning performance than browse-based ones.
