Two failure mechanisms in a double lap joint are investigated. Analytical models of net-section and gross-section failure modes are proposed to describe these mechanisms. The effects of lamping force, interference fit, maximum axial load and WDCP on fatigue performance of the joint are included in the models. Abstract:
The mechanical and fatigue behavior of different rubber compounds is investigated under multi-axial loading mode by means of a dedicated multi-axial device. The stress-strain behavior has been also interpreted using several constitutive models, both hyperelastic and viscoelastic. The fatigue behavior has been judged using 1) the classical energetic approach and 2) a new methodology based on the combination of J-integral approach and digital image correlation technique (DIC) whose general validity makes it suitable for the interpretation of fatigue data under general loading mode.
