Abstract:
In 1260 an army of Egyptian Mamluks, led by Sultan Qutuz, defeated a Mongol army from the Ilkhanate led by Ketbugha, at the battle of Ayn Jalut (Ain Jalut), ‘Goliath's Well’, in Palestine. Because this campaign marked the furthest advance of the Mongols in the Middle East, scholars have paid considerable attention to its military and political significance. However, one potential aspect of Ilkhanid-Mamluk relations has only been mentioned casually; examination of the role and image of the Kipchaks in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries may illustrate a much broader feature of the history of the Mongol Empire and its successor states.

The Ilkhan Tegüder (r. 1282–84), who took the name Ahmad when he converted to Islam, is widely credited with having interrupted—for the duration of his brief reign—the Mamluk-Ilkhanid conflict which had continued unabated since the battle of 'Ayn Jalut (1260). He is also credited with sending two embassies to Qalawun (r. 1280–90), his Mamluk counterpart: the first in 1282 and the second at the end of 1284.

Abstract:
In 1260 the Mamluks conquered Greater Syria after their victory over the Mongols in the 'Ayn Jalut battle, and thus gained control over this area as well as Egypt. Yet, in spite of their defeat in 1260, the Mongols never gave up hope to re-conquer the region. They made several attempts to do so and even succeeded in conquering several districts over which they ruled for several months until driven out once again by the Mamluks. Their attempts continued till the beginning of the 151 century. In addition to the Mongols, the Crusaders (1096-1291 y also endeavoured to control the area and for thirty years, from 1260 till 1291, both Crusaders and Mamluks shared the control of Greater Syria. The former mainly ruled along the Mediterranean coast, but in 1289 Tripoli was conquered by the Mamluks, while Acre was not conquered till 1291; soon afterwards, the cities of Tyre, Sidon and Beirut were also captured. The year 1291 also marked the end of the Crusader presence, but like the Mongols, they never gave up hope to re-conquer the regionl. Besides this, several districts in Greater Syria were held by the Ayyubids, such as al-Karak (1263), Homs (1264) Sahiun (1271) and Hamah, which was ruled by the Ayyubids, by permission of the Mamluks till 1341. (Poliak 1977:16) The areas surrounding some of the districts that were not under Mamluk rule were inhabited by different heterodox religious minorities who were accused by the Mamluks of collaborating with the Crusaders and the Mongols against the Muslims.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Any mode of public transportation has become an important vehicle to be used by many workers, students and general public in Bandung. Users, especially visitors, are mostly confused to find the right public transportation and its route. The most common problems are about the distance, routes, numeric and color code, and departure time. The efforts informing about public transportation, both in conventional and digital media have been pratically done, such as thematical map and public transportation map website. Along with the development of information technology, the way people access internet starts to prompt any changes. The development of wireless device has led to the creation of media in more interactive form. The different way in using media needs a new breakthrough which could help people getting any information about routes, duration, and transportation mode easily and quickly. This application is designed to help new public transportation users figuring out which transportation can be used to reach the desired location and easily help them to do their daily activities. The research method is qualitative, using a field survey, experiments and visual analysis. The result of this experiment can be developed further because it is related to the needs of database updating that can help people in their daily life. Hopefully in the future there will be more people experience the convenience of using public transportation in Bandung.

Abstract:
In managing a large network, it takes the ability to manage the network so that traffic is good. To connect to such a large network requires many routers, each router will connect to one another. But the best choice of any router is required for network traffic efficiency. There are two routing protocols that can be used, namely static routing and dynamic routing. EIGRP is dynamic routing which, principally between routers, can communicate directly and dynamically, so that when there is a new router in a network, routers can communicate directly because they can exchange information. EIGRP uses the Diffussing Update Algorithm (DUAL) in determining the best path. In this study, EIGRP metrics will be analyzed to try the best path on the network by sending Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packets. There are two networks that will be tested with differences in the Fast Ethernet bandwidth interface of each router. This experiment resulted in different values between Fast Ethernet default bandwidth and non-default bandwidth, so that the value of the variable affects the selection of the best path of network traffic

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter narrates a history of the Holy Land over a long stretch of time from 1260 to 1799. During this period two main political powers ruled the Holy Land: the Mamluk Sultanate and the Ottoman Empire. These two very different political entities shared a common heritage and many characteristics as they were both of Asian-Turkic origin and relatively late comers to the world of Islam. The analysis begins with the Battle of Ayn Jalut between the Mamluks and the Mongols, after which the Holy Land became part of the embryonic Mamluk Sultanate. It would be under the rule of the Mamluk Sultanate for c.270 years. In 1517, following the eastern expansion of the Ottoman Empire under Selim I, the Holy Land (as part of Greater Syria) entered a new period. It would remain under the Ottomans’ rule nominally until 1917. However, in the course of these 400 years there were many times when the Holy Land was controlled by local governors who did not pay heed to instructions arriving from the sultan in Istanbul. In 1798–9 the region experienced the Napoleonic invasion which not only exposed the weaknesses of the Ottoman Empire but also marked an historical watershed in the history of the Middle East. This episode, during which the winds of modernization, Westernization, and growing European influence buffet the Holy Land, concludes this chapter.

Abstract:
Abstract By 1219, the Mongols under Genghis Khan had spread their influence as far as the Caspian Sea. There, the Shah of Khwarizm offended the Great Khan by declining to extradite one of his governors for the death of two Mongol merchants. This provoked an invasion and the destruction of Khwarizm and led to the Mongol onslaught into the Middle East. Four Mongol armies engaged in the punishment: Genghis led one army that burned Bokhara, Samarkand, and Balkh; his son Juchi defeated the Shah’s forces at Jand, reportedly killing 160,000 men in the victory; another son, Jagatai, captured and sacked Otrar; yet another son, Tule, led 70,000 men through Khorasan and pillaged everywhere he went. All the armies proceeded undefeated, capturing and despoiling Merv, Nishapur, Rayy, and Herat.

Abstract:
Chapter 3 describes how the repeated references to historic battles and fighters in ISIS and al-Qaeda’s media products set expectations for the proto-state communities and their media systems. It explores how mentions of the past battles and fighters help define transhistorical subjectivities that frame the groups’ identity as timeless and serve as models for beliefs and behaviors for proto-state members. It also reveals how the historic references function to expose the groups’ criteria for evaluating their own proto-state media systems. The chapter examines how the two proto-states strategically positioned various battles (Badr, al-Azhab, al-Yamama, al-Qadissiyah, and Ain Jalut) and fighters (Hamza ibn Abdul Mutalib, Abu Baseer, Abu Jandal, Umm Amarah, Al-Khansa, the Pharaoh, Abdullah ibn Ubai ibn Salul, and Al-Aswad Al-Ansi) to define community and media system standards. It concludes with a discussion of how the groups’ mentions of contemporary martyrs function in similar ways.

Abstract:
Chapter 5 broadens Cruz’s story to include a collective of fellow prisoners, particularly Muslims, within an inter-racial alliance to make prisoner litigation and legal documentation as politicization and a prison-made civil rights revolution. The chapter considers how Muslim prisoners looked to their religious conversion for empowerment, community, and spiritual fulfilment. When the prison administration encountered a small, but growing, number of Muslims, it attempted to quarantine them from other prisoners and deny them their religious freedom. As a result, Fred Cruz found allies among the Muslims even as he found a new external ally, an anti-poverty lawyer named Frances Freeman Jalet, who pursued the claims of these prisoners as a matter of civil rights. In response to the development of civil rights work among the prisoners, the prison administration collected Jalet’s clients onto a single wing known as Eight Hoe for their field line number. This chapter analyzes the struggle over Eight Hoe as a widening base of prison civil rights work and grass-roots activism. Their collective effort served as notice to the other prisoners that prisoners had a champion outside of the prison and that the courts were paying attention.
