A one-pot, three-component, Cu(I)-catalyzed coupling of primary hydrazines, 5-chloropentan-2-one, and terminal alkynes was developed. The resulting 1-aza-6,7-dehydrotropanes compose a new class of substances while related 1-azatropanes are scarcely described in literature and closely resemble tropane alkaloids. Hydrogenation of the double bond in 1-aza-6,7-dehydrotropanes triggered a rearrangement, involving a [1,3]-hydride shift, forming cyclic hydrazones.

Abstract:
Enchanted by the vocal music of Serbian-born Canadian composer Ana Sokolović, Tamara Bernstein visited the composer at her home in Montreal. Sokolović’s music draws on several sources, including the theatrical world and the culture of the Balkans. The extended vocal techniques in Sokolović’s music are rooted not in the avant-garde music of the twentieth century, but in the oral traditions and poetic voice of Serbia. It seems that the more the composer returns to her cultural roots, the more she embraces the universality of the human soul.

Secretariado. ABSTRACT Based on a discursive perspective of Bakhtinian line, we understand the meeting minutes as a specific social manifestation, product of concrete conditions of production and materialized in a text with diverse structural and linguistic peculiarities. In that sense, we propose, in this paper, a study of the genre Minutes. To that end, we retrieved Bakhtin’s (1997) conception of discourse genre and gathered technical guidance as to the minutes textualization according to the Writing Manual e of the Republic Presidency. We then contrasted the data gathered to the verifiable linguistic occurrences in a selected collection of institutional minutes. The data analysis indicated that, even though the official writing manuals define the minutes as a faithful report of the discussions and decisions of a meeting, the objectivity announced for this genre presents gaps in which the secretary/writer acts, as in the selection of information and vocabulary that compose the text. Such choices are defined as anchoring points to the subjectivity of the minutes. Keywords: Discourse. Meeting minutes genre. Secretariat.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis presents two principles aspects: the first one consists in a regioselective metallation methodologic study of aza-π-deficients systems, and the second one, in the synthesis of highly biological interest scaffolds by organometallic way and / or transition metals couplings. So, in a first chapter, we describe the different results of the reaction between the superbasic complex [n-BuLi / LiDMAE] on π-deficient systems such as 7-azaindole or pyrazine. We also present results of other but close superbasic systems [s-BuLi / LiDMAE], [t-BuLi / LiDMAE], [LDA / LiDMAE], [LTMP / LiDMAE] on a model substrate: 3-chloropyridine. Indeed, this substrate allowed us to study regioselectivity and Basicity / Nucleophilicity ratio aspects. The second part of this thesis describes the synthesis of functionalised and functionalisable bicyclic targets especially containing a nitrogen atom such as pyrano[3,2-b]pyridine and oxepino[3,2-b]pyridine using an organometallic way, followed by transition metal couplings and ring closing metathesis. For this last step, we studied the efficiency of first and second generation Grubbs’ catalysts, comparing each, and optimising for each the yield of product obtained compared to the amount of catalyst introduced. Finally, we envisioned the formation of thieno[3,2-b]pyridines functionalised and functionalisable by regioselective lithiation of 3-methylthiopyridine followed by Sonogashira coupling and electrophilic cyclisation

Abstract:
Our work reports the synthesis of Calix[4](aza)crowns and the study of their complexation and extraction properties towards Alkaline-earth, Transition Metals and Rare-earth cations. The selective synthesis of starting materials (mono -, di -, tri- and tetra-methylester derivatives of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene) was followed by the preparation of bridged Calix[4]arenes with azaethylene or azapropylene chain, and their corresponding mono- and di-methylester derivatives. The intercalation of CH2NHCH2 or CH2N(CH3)CH2 group on azaethylene chain and their O-methylation was achieved. The introduction of a "tren" and a double bridge led to tripodal Calix[4]arene and Calix[4]bis-(aza)crown respectively. A complementary study limited to 1,3-dimethylester-2,4-dimethoxy-p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene lighten, both, the effect of the complexed cation and solvent polarity on ligand conformation. Furthermore, a competitive complexation and extraction study of alkali cations was run to predict complex stabilities. This study illustrates the first concrete case for which 1H NMR spectroscopy identifies, at the same time, the nature of the complexed cation and the formed complex, and gives rise to a new methodology of complex identification. Results of cation complexation and extraction study showed a pronounced Cu2+ selectivity that can lead to environmental and industrial applications, and allowed to discuss the influence of introducing methylester groups on Calix[4](aza)crowns' lower rim. The effect of cyclisation, the size, nature and disposition of azacrown chains was also investigated on their ion-binding behaviour. However, coordination chemistry of these receptors was discussed. The 1,2- and 1,3- disposition of azacrown chains creates an adequate cavity for transition metals, whereas the 1,2- and 3,4- disposition is adequate for Rare-earth which are strongly complexed. Moreover, a cooperative effect was observed between the two azacrown bridges

Abstract:
Aza-aromatic oligoamide foldamers self-organise in helical structures and can find an application in the field of molecular recognition. Single-stranded helices with a wide diameter at their centre and a shortened diameter at their extremities define a central cavity isolated from external medium and covered with hydrogen bonding acceptors and donors, which allow guest molecules to be encapsulated. This thesis aim at the elaboration of original foldamers whose helical structure, required for molecular recognition, will be induced through metal coordination. This conformational change is based on the presence of a carefully designed central linker that acts as a molecular hinge. The key linker studied in this work is a pyridazinepyridine-pyridazine compound introduced in two oligoamide sequences in order to generate two model foldamers. After the description of the synthesis of these targets, their complexation to several metals has been studied. The concept of molecular hinge, allowing to induce the helical structure in a totally controlled manner, has been validated. In order to conclude this work, an encapsulation study of several guest molecules has been conducted on this new generation of foldamer. Another aspect addressed in this thesis is the design and the synthesis of a high molecular weight foldamer, spontaneously helically folded, and possessing an enlarged cavity to anticipate the encapsulation of large substrates

Abstract:

As a part of a research program on the synthesis and pharmacological properties of 2-azabioisosters of tryptamine, melatonine and serotonine, the synthesis of 2-azatryptophans was developed with various strategies : the nucleophilic substitution of a 3-bromomethylindazole with a functionalized acetamidomalonate to obtain either the amino ester or the amino acid according the treatment, the Heck cross-coupling reaction of protected 3-iodoindazoles and methyl 2-(acetylamino)acrylate, and the synthesis of 3-formylindazoles which reacted on a correctly functionnalized phosphonate in a Wittig-Horner reaction. With this last strategy a key compound was study to allow the design and synthesis of a new 3-ketoindazole librarie by a direct conversion of N-methoxy-N-methylamides (Weinreb amides) to ketones. Furthermore to develop new organoboron compounds in organic chemistry, the reaction of various protected halogenoindazoles into the corresponding boronates was studied. Their usefulness were studied in Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions and in the hydroxydeboronation. And then the triple reactivity of dihalogenoindazoles to design new indazole libraries was developed, in particulary with sequential Suzuki and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions

The multicomponent reactions (MCRs) are defined as a process wherein three or more reactants combine, in the same reaction pot to form a product that contains the structural characteristics of each reagent utilized, forming products with a good structural complexity in one steep. The aim of this work is the utilization of different niobium compounds as promoter of aza-Diels-Alder MCRs. The Niobium pentachloire promotes the synthesis of different tetrahydriquinolines derivatives through of reaction between anline derivatives, benzaldehyde and different cyclic enolic ethers (dihydropyran and dihydrofuran), with low reaction times, high yields and with great diastereoisomeric ratio. Was studied too, the utilization of niobium pentaethoxide in the synthesis of bicyclic ketamine derivatives through the MCR between anline derivatives, benzaldehyde and cyclohexenone. The reaction was promoted in moderate reaction times, obtaining the products with high yields and with moderate diastereoisomeric ratio, in mild reaction conditions. At the same time of the studies with niobium compounds, were realized studies of unequivocal structural elucidation of some tetrahydroquinoline derivatives synthetized, utilizing NMR techniques and theoretical calculations

Abstract:
This chapter examines the development of African diasporic identities in colonial Peru by focusing on the case of Ana de la Calle. In 1719, Ana de la Calle paid a notary in the northern Peruvian city of Trujillo to compose her will. She identified herself as a free morena of casta lucumí from the Yoruba-speaking interior of the Bight of Benin. Before deconstructing the terms “lucumí” and “morena” as used together by Ana de la Calle, this chapter first provides an overview of slavery and freedom in colonial Peru. It then considers lucumí as an elite status, as well as how Ana de la Calle's claim to be free and Lucumí made her unique and perhaps isolated her from other free women of color in colonial Trujillo. By analyzing why Ana de la Calle used morena and lucumí together, this chapter shows how casta terms were harnessed by both enslaved and free people of the African Diaspora.

Full text
Abstract:
Amyloidosis is a disorder of protein folding in which normally soluble plasma proteins are deposited in the extracellular space in an abnormal insoluble fibrillar form. The process of amyloid formation and deposition causes cytotoxicity and progressive organ dysfunction. Amyloid is remarkably diverse and can be hereditary or acquired, localized or systemic, and lethal or merely an incidental finding. The most important numerically are AL amyloidosis, in which the fibrils are composed of monoclonal immunoglobulin light chains, and AA amyloidosis, in which the acute phase reactant Serum Amyloid A component forms the fibrils. The kidney is involved in 75% of patients with systemic amyloidosis. Heavy proteinuria or nephrotic syndrome is characteristic of most amyloid variants.Without treatment, systemic disease is usually fatal but measures that reduce the supply of amyloid fibril precursor proteins can result in regression of amyloid deposits, prevention of organ failure, and improved quality of life and survival. Early diagnosis, before irreversible organ damage has occurred, is the key to effective treatment. Recent advances in diagnosis and therapy have much improved the outlook of patients with AL amyloidosis, but agents with broader promise are under investigation.

Abstract:
The chapter examines the relationships between Prokofiev’s early music and the poets that inspired him. Guided by Konstantin Balmont’s poetic characterization of him in the early 1920s as a “sun-sounding Scythian,” it looks at two specific facets of Russian Symbolism and post-Symbolism that informed Prokofiev’s works: the sun cult and Scythianism. Prokofiev’s luminous Scythianism encompasses the paradox of the lyricism of his early songs and the perceived barbarism of his rejected ballet Ala and Lolli, from which the composer derived his Scythian Suite. By analyzing Prokofiev’s collaboration with Gorodetskii on Ala and Lolli and the composer’s settings of Balmont’s and Akhmatova’s poems, we can understand how the incarnations of the sun god in the Russian Silver Age informed both the sunrise music and the aesthetics of horror in the ballet and the suite. The chapter also reflects on Ala and Lolli as an unrealized ballet in the shadow of Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.

Abstract:
The relationship between Ava and Pegu was a symbiotic dualism: of time, space and type. Ava was not only a reformulation of something old, and Pegu, the genesis of something new, but as one was located in the agrarian Dry Zone and the other, on the commercial coasts, each was historically, materially, and in terms of general character, distinct. Whereas the Kingdom of Ava was essentially the resurrection of an old kingdom—Pagan writ small—Pegu was a new kingdom composed of new leaders, people, and cultures. Ava was a familiar, Upper Myanmar polity: the same material environment and demographic base, the same economic, social and political institutions, the same language, writing system, cosmology, and culture. Pegu, on the other hand, was a new, independent kingdom of Lower Myanmar, led by newcomers (the Mon speakers) who had migrated from what later became Thailand. Yet, because both Ava and Pegu were built on the same foundations (Pagan), both had certain common elements. They shared virtually the same religion and thought systems; similar social customs, values, and mores; familiar political and administrative principles; a common, even if contested, history; and certainly the same writing system. Whatever the dissimilarities were, they did not produce a binary situation of two irreconcilably antagonistic ethnic entities—Burman and Mon as convention has it—rather, these dissimilarities created a dualism of geo-political and cultural differences whose energy and dynamism came from the tension created precisely by those differences. In fact, Ava and Pegu’s relationship not only epitomized Southeast Asia’s “upstream-downstream” paradigm common throughout much of its history, it continues today in Naypyidaw and Yangon.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This chapter explores Gillian Whitehead’s Awa Herea. A personal and deeply felt response to the nature and folklore of New Zealand is always present in Whitehead’s music. The chapter illustrates how this is shown strongly in this cycle, for which she has composed her own text. Intimate spiritual identification with her heritage (she is one-eighth Maori) manifests itself, both in a special sensitivity to the sights and sounds of birds, beasts, plants, landscapes, and climate, and their significance in Maori culture, and in a fierce resistance to the commercial interests that threaten to destroy them. The work is divided into seven movements, some overlapping, making an exceptionally well-balanced whole.

Abstract:
This chapter, by Suzanne Conklin Akbari and Asa Simon Mittman, addresses the subject of cartography and medieval perceptions of geographical space, specifically in relation to Jerusalem. The chapter pays particularly attention to the map of the city in a manuscript from twelfth-century Flanders, doing so in the context of an overview of medieval map-making which stresses the symbolic function of maps within a Christian view of the physical world, with Jerusalem the ideal city at its centre. For the composer of the map examined here, however, Jerusalem is not just an ideal, but a real city. Thus theological understanding is strikingly combined with the practical knowledge.

Abstract:
Chapter Seven theorizes how Joseph Smith composed the Book of Mormon. Through a process of "revelatory translation," Smith spent several years crafting story outlines for the Book of Mormon, while simultaneously seeking spiritual confirmation of the historical authenticity of the narratives. Whether using a notebook of story outlines or simply his memory, Smith reviewed each of the story outlines prior to dictation, and then dictated the stories without the use of notes or manuscripts. The chapter contextualizes Smith's process within the western esoteric tradition of using seer stones and a biblical-style Urim and Thummim, with attention to the esotericism of John Dee and his scryer Edward Kelly (aka "Kelley"), who used a seer stone ("shew-stone") to translate angelic texts. The chapter further suggests the influence of biblical commentator Adam Clarke and his discussion of Paul's New Testament reference to the "tongue of angels." The chapter then reviews historical accounts by eyewitnesses to Smith's process of dictation and challenges apologetic interpretations. The chapter concludes with the theory that Smith composed the Book of Mormon by formulating the narratives in the work, after which he sought spiritual confirmation of their accuracy in a collaborative, spiritual co-authorship with the divine.

Abstract:
Composite materials have been explored in architecture for their high performance characteristics that allow customization of functional properties of lightness, strength, stiffness and fracture toughness. Particularly, engineering advancements and better understanding of fiber composites have resulted in growing applications for architectural structures and envelopes. As most new developments in material fabrication start outside the realm of architecture such as in automobile and aeronautical industries, there is need to advance knowledge in architectural design to take advantage of new fabrication technologies. The authors introduce results of new digitally driven fabrication methods for fiber-reinforced composite sandwich panels for complex shaped buildings. This presentation discussed the material properties, manufacturing methods and fabrication techniques needed to develop a proof of concept system using off-the-shelf production technology that ultimately can be packaged into a mobile containerized facility for on-site panel production. The researchers conducted experiments focusing on developing a digitally controlled deformable mold to create composite relief structures for highly customized geometrical façade components. Research findings of production materials, fabrication methods and assembly techniques, are discussed to offer insights into novel opportunities for architectural composite panel fabrication and commercialization.

Abstract:
This paper presents effective extensional stiffness of plain-weft knitted fabric reinforced composites obtained from finite element analysis and analytical calculations. For micro-mechanical analyses, a unit cell, enclosing the characteristic periodic repeat pattern in the knitted fabric, is isolated and modeled. Psuedo three-dimensional finite element model is constructed using laminated shell elements. Composite extensional stiffness is estimated for plane-stress and plane-strain conditions. Further, stiffness and compliance averaging methods have been used to determine the upper and lower limits of composite stiffness. The models are explicitly based on the properties of fiber and matrix materials and orientation of yarns. Results obtained from the models are compared with experimental values.
