Abstract:
In late July of 2023, Super Typhoon Doksuri (local name: Egay) hit the northern part of the Philippines with a peak intensity of 185 km/h and 925 hPa. Storm surges were expected to occur in the area with Doksuri making a direct hit and staying over the Babuyan group of islands. However, no official measurements of surge levels were known to be reported. Thus, there is a need to investigate how high the storm surges could have been on these islands using numerical models. The WRF-FVCOM weather-surge models were used to simulate Doksuri and its potential storm surge at the islands. Although the

Since the verification of the occurrence of humpback whales in the Babuyan Islands, Philippines in 1999, studies have been carried out on their status and distribution. Boat-based surveys of the waters around the islands were conducted from 2000-03. In 2003, a survey was also conducted off the eastern coast of Northern Sierra Madre. Once the whales were sighted, the location, group composition and behaviour were noted, fluke photo-identifications taken, sloughed skin and biopsy samples collected and songs recorded. Cirrhilabrus shutmani, new species, is described on the basis of four specimens from Didicas Volcano, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan province, northern Philippines. The holotype and three paratypes were collected at a depth of 50–70 m, along denuded rubble slopes. The new species belong to a complex consisting of C. blatteus, C. claire, C. earlei, C. jordani, C. lanceolatus, C. roseafascia, C. rubrisquamis and C. sanguineus. Aside from similar nuptial male colouration, the nine species share the following character combination: relatively short pelvic fins (not or barely reaching anal-fin origin, ex
