Juan Garcia Esquivel's compositions and band arrangements of the late 1950s and early 1960s – his so-called ‘space-age bachelor pad music’ – feature exotic and futuristic instruments, dazzling stereo effects, textless vocalisations, and an array of colourful harmonic resources. This paper situates Esquivel's music within the venerable tradition of the Pastoral mode, a specialised narrative mode met in certain literary and musical works. I begin with an account of the musical pastoral, illustrated with reference to Renaissance madrigals, opera libretti, and especially French concert music from

In the past few decades there have been major changes to historically informed performance practice. Early music departments have appeared in conservatories worldwide, where one can study early music on period instruments according to extant performance sources. Despite historically informed performance practice being well-known and well-acknowledged, no course has been offered thus far by Hungarian conservatories, resulting in the phenomena of young professionals with bachelor and/or master degrees but with only scarce awareness of this practice. This essay provides readers with the basic notions of early music performance, emphasizing the particular mentality shaping its theoretical foundation. Abstract:
In this study we seek to present a description of how bachelor and masters students in popular electronic music experience making original music in their chosen Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). The chapter focuses on how the participants understand their role while making music afforded by the DAW environment, their strategies for getting started when making music, and the challenges they experience when finishing music. In the study we interviewed six students at bachelor and masters level. We see a tendency in how participants attribute the technical component of music making as the defining aspect of the producer role. The respondents seem to understand themselves as primarily producers when making music in the DAW environment. When starting out with a new song, most of the respondents describe an experience of flow that gradually dissolves as the structure of the song emerges and their inner critique gains foothold. The respondents concur on the challenges of finishing music in the rich decision-making environment that the DAW affords. We conclude by emphasizing the importance of students developing their own creative strategies suited to their unique music-making practice. We argue that the students need to become self-aware of their strengths and weaknesses in order to develop such creative strategies. Arguably, teaching practice that facilitates such meta-learning is therefore highly relevant in higher electronic music education. This is especially relevant in the DAW environment where discipline is required in order to stop fiddling with details and release their music to the world.

Abstract:
At the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of Music (IMU), new assessment guidelines were implemented during spring 2019, which had consequences for the assessment of bachelor concerts. The assessment guidelines offered two substantial new tools for external examiner use in summative assessment: They contained predefined assessment criteria and mark descriptions adapted to the expected learning outcome on the main instrument. In this chapter, I attempt to find out how the new tools function in practice and whether they clarify the task for the external examiners and increase transparency. A focus group interview with six examiners who used the guidelines at IMU is used to shed light on different aspects of the summative assessment. Sadler’s theory of qualitative assessment and the twin concepts of holistic and analytic assessment are used as a basis for my discussion.

Abstract:
In a diverse work environment, it is important to have diverse leaders, managers, and people with different talents and intelligence in order to deal with different problems. In this case, each individual can know their own strength and weakness, and know which position works best for them. The concept of learning styles is used to describe individual differences in the way people learn. According to Kolb (1984), each person has a unique way to absorb and process experiences and information. He has identified four statistically prevalent learning styles- diverging, assimilating, converging, and accommodating. On the other hand, Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory is very helpful to recognize that people have differing aptitude in different subject areas. This chapter documents a study in which the participants consisted of 153 bachelor students of Management from the Multimedia University of Malaysia. They were given two questionnaires, one for Kolb's learning style and other for Gardner's Multiple Intelligence inventory and a correlation was conducted. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between Kolb's Learning Style and Multiple Intelligence. The relationship could be seen particularly in Abstract Conceptualization (AC) and Multiple Intelligences which were Nature, kinesthetic, music, word, interpersonal, and picture. The results also indicated that the majority of the participants are between AC and AE which means they are convergers. Having the right information for companies can be beneficial since knowing how their employees learn can lead to a diverse workplace that would have significant results on organizational structure, planning, development, and operation.

Abstract:
The need for identifying authentic assessments, or learning tasks, in online music courses is becoming integral as the rate of online music course offerings has been exponentially increasing. Supportive research also suggests that instructors teaching in higher education may require a paradigm shift in their pedagogical approach as they develop social-constructivist based authentic assessments for music subjects taught in an online environment. To assist with the understanding of both why and how to generate authentic assessment for a Bachelor's-level online music course, the chapter explores the nature of authentic assessment for music and Koh's Criteria for Authenticity in Authentic Assessment. Finally, to provide a practical exemplar of how online discussions can be used as an authentic learning tool in the online music class, an online discussion task for a songwriting class is identified and examined through the lens of Koh's characteristics.
