ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Investors often question the extent to which the state of the market affects returns in investment finance, and seek answers as to whether the market response to bad and good news is dependent on the level of the market. If this is true, investors who have the ability to identify events can make substantial amounts of money by identifying the state of the market before investing. This would then be in violation of the efficient market hypothesis. This study used the Conrad, Cornell and Landsman (2002) model to investigate whether the share price's response to bad news in South Africa changes with the relative level of the market. Conrad, et al. (2002) found enough evidence that the market's response to bad news increases with the increase in relative level of the market. Bhana (1996) supported this notion when he reported that investors overreacted to companies that announced negative earnings. A sample analysis of this study produced regression equations with insignificant unexpected earnings coefficients. One of the notable factors was that, for some observations, the retained earnings moved in the opposite direction with the unexpected earnings shocks. Malan (1998) found similar market reaction when he investigated the overreaction theory using three indices from Johannesburg Stock Exchange and he reported that the market could not distinguish between bad and good news as the results for both bad and good news yield either positive or negative abnormal returns. After introducing additional variables to allow for these opposite movements, CHANGE, the regression equation produced significant regression coefficients. The results of the study were directly opposite to the findings of Conrad, et al. (2002) and those in other existing literature. These indicated that the market responds strongly to good news in both good and bad market states. The study concludes by suggesting further areas for future research.

Full textThis thesis explores the way the interrogator chooses method of interrogation based upon experience and how this in turn will affect legal certainty. The purpose is to examine how the experiences within the police force will be taken advantage of and how it is disseminated within the organization. The study was conducted in cooperation with the Police in Malmö. By interviewing interrogators and persons with first-rate knowledge about the subject the researcher has tried to get as extensive research material as possible. The results show that experience can affect legal certainty, but the extent of this has not been further investigated. Interrogators do not use a specific interrogation method but uses the free story that is a feature in both the PEACE-model and the cognitive interview method. Furthermore, the experiences within the Police force in Malmö was examined and the results show that the respondents want this to be disseminated to a higher extent. The respondents also expressed that further education was most important and desirable as the methods develop to the same extent as society.

Full textThe hotel and the public bath in Mariefred are located at the intersection of Storgatan and Gripsholmvägen. This is also the entrance to the town that is characterized by small wooden houses and a lot of brick buildings. The inspiration came from the brick structure and the circular shapes and arcuate shapes in the Gripsholm’s Castle, which is located south of Mariefred and it is the city´s most important landmark. The bath is an important concept for my project. It came after interviewing people from Mariefred who spoke very nostalgic about Strandrestaurangen - restaurant located on Mariefred’s east coast. It is a restaurant that closed due to mold, and had among other things cold bath. The new bath will be a part of the city in such a way that everyone should have access to its offerings. Both hotel guests and people living in Mariefred can come to swim there. Once again people will be able to gather in one place, enjoy, socialize, etc. The swimming pool has both a heated indoor part and a larger part that is located outdoors. You can reach the outdoor part of the pool by swimming through a glass wall or simply by walking from the outside. On the 2nd floor there is a pool, and it is only for hotel guests. The hotel's main entrance is separate from bath entrance. The hotel is on five floors and each floor has terraces that are stepping up and becoming smaller and smaller. The hotel's design is characterized by curved walls of gray brick and many glass walls / windows. The windows are narrow and high and have different distances depending on how the facade should be experienced. The building also follows the curvature of the main intersection in Mariefred.

We study a bad reputation model with rating system as a special form of limited memory. At each period, a myopic customer knowing the rules of the system but observing only a current public realization of a finite set of states uses this information to infer expert's type and take hiring decisions. A strategic expert chooses whether or not to provide correct treatment whenever hired and a bad (committed) expert always proposes an expensive treatment. With full memory, a patient expert cannot refrain from gaining reputation of being bad or lying to separate herself from a bad type. With rating systems, we show that it is possible not only to overcome bad reputation effect, but generate higher equilibrium outcomes relative to trivial information censoring (no memory at all). We characterize optimal systems from customer and strategic expert's point of view in a two-state setting for all prior beliefs and show how they differ and when a rating system can bring efficiency to experts' markets.

Doctoral thesis, Universitat Ramon Llull, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/671501.
The doctoral thesis is based on the discovery of the neologism "Bad Fans" found in a review published in The New Yorker written by Emily Nussbaum, a television critic. In this text, the emotions of some viewers at the reception of the television series Breaking Bad (AMC, 2008 - 2013, Vince Gilligan) are questioned. As a result of the discovery of this neologism, the questions were raised of where, how and why this neologism arises and what it means. To do this, a long study is made of the narrative developed by the Breaking Bad series within contemporary North American television and its inclusion in the so-called “Complex TV” (complex television). The work reveals certain characteristics, among them, the development of the narrative in a certain way, which, among other things, seeks to confuse the viewers' emotions through the different narrative resources. It is necessary to study the profile of the contemporary viewer and the emotions that arise, on the basis that they are created from cognitive and affective / communicative factors. Likewise, the creation of the meaning that the narrative builds and that made by the viewer about it is studied. This contemporary viewer lives hyperconnected, participates and interacts, shares and receives extensions of the narrative itself, including the texts of television critics. Consequently, the role of television criticism and some of the texts that have appeared on Breaking Bad are analyzed to evaluate the narrative and verify the existence and importance of critical pluralism, which accepts dialogue with the viewer. It is concluded, among other things, that there are no good or bad spectators, but also a plurality.

Full textMy suggestion to the new bathhouse in Västertorp, Stockholm, is to partly bury it in the park to give the park the possibility to continue to be a place where pedestrians and bikers can continue to pass by the park without being stopped and irritated by a building. Even though it is partly buried, it connects with a path, which is important today in this area, to combine the beginning of the park with the connecting Telefonplan. The volumes, which rise from the park, create spaces to hang out in, and makes people want to know what is in there. The building embodies two big halls for sports, together with changing rooms and a smaller hall for a gym. The bathhouse features a 25-meter swimming pool for training and competitions, a pool for education, and one for slower exercise swimming. There are also a section for spa and sauna. The existing outdoor pool is connected with a wooden deck from the new building, and it contains the new changing rooms for the outdoor pool. The three pools inside the new building under the park have double ceiling height above the pools. For a visitor the wish is to get them to recognize the volumes from outside to reflect on where they are located on the roof. These volumes also have glass in the roof, which leads the daylight in the spaces where the pools are located.
