Abstract:
Background and Study Aim. Few controlled studies have been conducted on the effect of sports games as a physical education (PE) course on the health-related fitness of university students. The aim of the study was to determine whether three sports in a PE course will help improve the health-related fitness of male university students. Material and Methods. Students from two universities participated in the study, with one university acting as a control group. There were two PE courses which students registered for: a football and volleyball (FVG, n=169) course and a badminton (BG, n=97) course. The students received basic training drills and competed with one another. The duration of the activities was 50 minutes sessions for eight weeks. The following tests were taken before and after eight weeks: Cooper test, sit-and-reach test, 60-s curl test, standing long jump test, and body mass index. Paired t-tests were used to compare the baseline and post data of each group. The Welch t-test, ANCOVA, and analysis of gains scores were used to compare each of the PE groups to the control group. ANCOVA was used to account for baseline differences, while analysis of gains scores was used whenever ANCOVA could not be used. The Vargha-Delaney Effect Size (VD) and the Common Language Effect Size (CLES) were used to determine the effect sizes for the Welch t-tests and ANCOVA, respectively. Significant changes were set at p ≤ 0.05 and VD ≤ 42% or VD ≥ 58%, or if p ≤ 0.05 and CLES ≥ 58 %. Results. Both PE groups showed significant improvements in all the measured fitness parameters except body composition. Moreover, the measured parameters of the control group reduced after eight weeks. Conclusion. The study shows evidence that PE courses can serve male universities in improving their health-related fitness. Moreover, students who do not participate in a PE course may be at risk of losing their fitness.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVES This study examined the development of Chinese pre-service physical education teachers’ technical skill, tactical understanding, game performance (common content knowledge - CCK), and specialized content knowledge (SCK) during a badminton course incorporating Play Practice instruction.METHODS Participants were 36 pre-service teachers (31 males, 5 females: age 21 ± 1.0) majoring in physical education at a university in central China. The students completed a 24 lesson course after a 16 weeks semester. A typical lesson (90 minutes) included a 10-minute warm-up, followed by instruction in two or three technical skills or tactics for 50-55 minutes. The final 25-minutes included the Play Practice aspect of the lesson - a specific game-based challenge to reinforce a technical or tactical aspect of badminton play. The challenge included the three typical pedagogies of Play Practice: focusing, shaping, and enhancing. The French clear test, tactical understanding in badminton, Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI), and student-generated content maps were used to respectively monitor changes in technical skills, tactical understanding, game performance, and specialized content knowledge before and after the course. Parametric statistics were used to compare student outcomes.RESULTS Statistically significant differences were found on all measures from pre- to post-test, with all showing large effect sizes. In particular, over 75% of students achieved the benchmark depth of SCK following the course.CONCLUSIONS The inclusion of Play Practice within a sport instruction course can contribute to various elements that are needed to promote the CCK and SCK of pre-service physical education students.

Abstract:
Background: Although Basic Instruction Program (BIP) or Higher Education Physical Activity Program (HEPAP) classes within university/colleges are founded on the rationale of providing students with opportunities to be physically active, little is known about the physical activity (PA) accrual and/or motivation levels in these classes. Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate college students’ Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA) and motivationlevels while playing different games types (modified games/MGs, small-sided games/SSGs, and full-sided games/FSGs) in badminton and soccer classes. In addition, the study examined the extent to which motivation levels predicted students MVPA. Method: Participants were seventy-one college students (14 females) from a rural Mid-Atlantic university in the United States (U.S.).Triaxial accelerometers were used to collect MVPA data and the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) to measure student motivation. Results: Students in soccer classes had statistically significant more MVPA than those in badminton. Students in soccer and badminton classes had most MVPA in FSGs and SSGs, respectively. Although students reported similar scores in the three IMI subscales when data were aggregated, soccer students reported higher levels of competence and effort in MGs, whereas badminton students reported higher levels of competence and effort in SSGs. Interest was the only statistically significant predictor of MVPA in MGs whereas perceived competence statistically significantly predicted MVPA in both SSGs and FSGs. Conclusion: PE and sport practitioners should utilize the different game types to find the optimal balance between MVPA and student motivation and realize lesson objectives.

Abstract:
All patients with badminton-related acute Achilles tendon ruptures registered during 1990 to 1994 at the University Hospital of Umeå were retrospectively followed up using a questionnaire. Thirty-one patients (mean age, 36.0 years), 27 men and 4 women, were included. Thirty patients (97%) described themselves as recreational players or beginners. The majority of the injuries (29 of 31, 94%) happened at the middle or end of the planned game. Previous local symptoms had been noticed by five patients (16%). Long-term results showed that patients treated with surgery had a significantly shorter sick leave absence than patients treated without surgery (50 versus 75 days). There was no obvious selection favoring any treatment modality. None of the surgically treated patients had reruptures, but two reruptures occurred in the nonsurgically treated group. There seemed to be fewer remaining symptoms and a higher sports activity level after the injury in the surgically treated group. Our results indicate that local muscle fatigue may interfere with strength and coordination. Preventive measures such as specific treatment of minor injuries and adequate training of strength, endurance, and coordination are important. Our findings also indicate that surgical treatment and careful postoperative rehabilitation is of great importance among badminton players of any age or sports level with Achilles tendon ruptures.

Abstract:
ObjectivesTo describe ocular injuries caused by badminton and to explore the implications for future prevention strategies.MethodsWe enrolled 85 patients with ocular trauma caused by badminton. Information collected from patients included type of game, instigator, instrument of injury and lessons in badminton from a professional, and ocular trauma information such as type of injury, treatment and final outcomes.ResultsThe 85 patients (52 men, 33 women) were aged 15–65 years with an average age of 42.9 (±10.7) years. In 60 cases the player was hit by a shuttlecock and in 25 the player was hit by a racquet. 73 cases occurred in doubles matches and 10 in singles matches. In 31 cases the trauma was caused by an opponent and in 52 cases by a partner; 2 cases involved bystanders, not players. About 70% (43/61) of the injured and 82% (40/49) of the instigators had not received badminton lessons from a professional. 80 injuries were non-penetrating and 5 were penetrating. There were 58 cases with hyphaema, 36 with secondary glaucoma, 23 with lens subluxation and 2 with retinal detachment. Surgery comprised phacoemulsification or lensectomy and vitrectomy in 16 cases, silicone oil tamponade in 2 cases, trabeculectomy in 3 cases and direct cyclopexy in 5 cases.ConclusionThe vast majority of the badminton related eye injuries occurred among doubles players and were instigated by the injured person’s partner. Non-penetrating injury was more frequent; penetrating injury was usually more serious. We recommend that badminton players use protective eyewear and receive safety education and professional coaching/instruction on techniques to protect against serious eye injuries.

Abstract:
The use of the football game in the physical education lesson offers particularly favorable conditions for the complex development of the students' motor skills and qualities. Playing the football game contributes to the formation and improvement of coordinated movements, to the capacity of rapid engagement in the timing and rhythm of social activities, through the accumulation of positive influences and effects of sanotrophic and educational character. Due to its valences, football is appreciated as a necessary and efficient means of physical school education, which is why we find it both in the physical education lessons or the obligatory activities of the students, as well as in the other sports-recreational activities in most schools in our country. By implementing in the process of preparation of dynamic games, sticks and competitions for students of 13-15 years we aim to consolidate and perfect the technique of football. By using these means during the training hours I suppose that the level of technical training of the students in the representative school football team for women will be improved. The importance of the different dynamic games, of the sticks and of the competitions in the acquisition of the football game technique lies in the fact that, in the modern game, performance cannot be achieved without a very good technique.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of the first stage of research to determine the level of motivation of students of a pedagogical profile with impaired health to physical education classes. It is shown that conscious choice of students of motor activity will not only increase the level of attending physical education classes, but will also increase their interest in them and will provide active participation in the educational process, which will become the basis for the formation of conscious motivation in students with impaired health physical education classes. The results of the questionnaire survey among the first and second year students identified the main issues that need to be addressed in order to significantly improve the educational process of physical education with students with impaired health. These include: Introducing changes to the curriculum and syllabuses in physical education for students with disabilities, namely in its theoretical section. The purpose of theoretical training will be to form students' knowledge of healthy lifestyles, health status, components of physical health: physical development, physical fitness, physical activity, physical performance. This will not only promote the development of the aforementioned components of physical health in physical education classes, independent physical education and sports, while actively pursuing recreation and leisure, but will also significantly contribute to the formation of conscious motivation in them. The educational process of physical education of student youth can be successful only if the achievement of the goal of learning becomes the dominant motive of this pedagogical process, and the main condition for the formation of motivation is the inclusion of students in the corresponding educational activity. According to the results of the survey, most students preferred to play badminton. Badminton is one of the most widespread and versatile forms of realization of physical activity of a person, due to the wide possibilities of individual choice, dosage of exercises, their variety and degree of complexity. Badminton refers to acyclic complex coordination sports. He is characterized by such features as speed of movement, speed of thinking, speed of execution of technical techniques with the maximum reduction of preparatory actions, manifestation of morally strong-willed qualities.

Abstract:
The modern level of development of volleyball demands high-quality approach to physical fitness of the player. The efficiency of educational and training process and effectiveness of game activity of the volleyball player depends on his overall, technical and tactical and psychological physical conditioning. There is no effective technique considering specific features of players when training college teams now. During the main training time of the training process, much attention is paid to the technical and tactical actions of the player. For general and special physical training of volleyball players special conditions and additional training time are necessary. The lack of such conditions in most student volleyball teams significantly reduces the game result as a whole. In search of a way out of the current problem, we have developed a method of education of physical capable taking into account the peculiarities of game actions of volleyball players. On the basis of the individual approach, and taking into account the training conditions of the male team of OGU, a program of general and special physical training was drawn up for each volleyball player, depending on his playing function on the site. At the final stage of our experiment, the player 's physical and special-physical preparedness rates increased markedly. The level of endurance of anaerobic character, jump endurance, high-speed endurance of attacking players, “libero,” defenders increased by 30%. The level of speed and speed-force abilities of volleyball players with different game role increased from 25–37 %. The obtained data of the study showed that the use of the technique developed by us of physical preparation of volleyball player significantly improved physical preparation of each player with different roles, and performance of the team as a whole.Key words: volleyball, physical fitness, player role.

SummaryStudy aim: To determine the level and internal structure of profiles of coordination motor abilities in elite judokas and badminton players compared to a group of non-athletes.Material and methods: The material for the study was the results collected from 12 competitors of the Polish national badminton team (age: 22.7 ± 4.5), 10 members of the national judo team who represented mean weight categories (age: 23.0 ± 3.3) and 25 non-athletes, who were male university students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport (age: 23.0 ± 0.8). The scope of the study included basic somatic features and selected coordination motor abilities measured by means of computer tests. Results: Statistically significant differences between badminton players and judokas were obtained for reaction times (visual, auditory and selective) as well as spatial orientation. In all cases, a higher level was found for badminton players. Furthermore, analysis of differences between badminton players and non-athletes revealed statistically significant differences only for the selective reaction time. A substantial differentiation of the internal structure of the models of coordination motor abilities was obtained. This pattern was particularly noticeable in the group of judokas and badminton players, where the difference between characteristics was ca. 0.76 SD. Substantially smaller differences (0.21 SD) between particular variables included in the coordination profile were found for non-athlete university students. Conclusion: The lower results of the elite judokas show the need for developing the coordination motor abilities during training. The largest reserves are to be found in raising the level of reaction times and spatial orientation.

Abstract:
Sports of playing games for student’s competence are rapidly growing and beneficial in the process of the development of skills. The article provides material on handball training in physical education lessons and informal environments (workouts), using a small-sided games method (SSG). The benefits of this method have been proven in the preparation of high-performance athletes, seeking the highest results in the competition. Team handball has become a modern and fast game that fascinates viewers and participants in much more foreign arenas. Therefore, it is particularly important that children and adolescents in schools can try this game at innovative methods.A problem-related question arises – how to organize physical education classes using a small-sided game method, teaching handball to make them more relevant to youth? The aim: to reveal how small sided games (SSG) can help quickly master the content of a learning game and contribute to handball promotion in schools. The article uses the analysis of scientific literature.Training based on techniques denies tactical training by dividing them, but gaming provides a new meaning, which allows to follow the integrity of the game (technique, tactics, thinking, social aspects) education. Usually, the basis for such gaming method relies on certain task limitations, which change the usual characteristics of the game, but maintain the main principle of the game.Conclusions. A handball training program based on game method is beneficial to the development of individual and team tactical, technical activities and improvement of other gaming components. Education through games allows the trainees to discover different solutions, teaches how to think fast and make the right decisions. Training tasks are completely connected to certain handball actions by applying SSG method. For that reason, small games could be the best ones for students involvement in playing games.

Abstract:
The players in the dominant national teams getting to perform in around 80-85 official games per season. Player rarely gets to perform more than 7-8 minutes continuously in the court and more than 22-25 minutes in a game. Studies show that basketball is performed faster than before, with 50-55% of the shots are scored after 12-15 seconds of possession, during fast break or offensive transition. Generally, aggressive attacks are performed at the end of a quarter or game, when the team wants to control the score/time ratio. If one takes into consideration all the tendencies presented above, one realizes that the basketball player needs new methods of training and recovery after a game, as well as a scientific basis for their training, both for the pre-competition and the competition period. One can see that, realistically, such a player has only 7 to 14 days of rest per year.

Abstract:
Effects of a visual-discrimination training program on participants’ ability to analyze overarm throwing performances was studied. Also examined was the extent to which transfer occurred in analyzing three related overarm skills (the badminton overhand clear, tennis serve, and volleyball serve) and one unrelated skill (the standing long jump). After the pretest, the training group (n = 13) was shown the visual-discrimination program. The control group (n = 13) received no training. The two-way ANOVA, with repeated measures, showed no significant differences between the groups for any skills on the pretest, but statistically significant differences between groups’ posttest scores for all skills, except the standing long jump.

Abstract:
Promotion of healthy active behaviors should start from early ages, as behaviors learned in youth are more likely to endure. A fundamental body of research in this field focuses on the implementation of programs within physical education (PE), thanks to its favorable characteristics. However, traditional PE based on exercise training and controlling styles seems to have weaker association with students’ health benefits. For this reason, the aim of this study was to assess the effects of a game-based PE program on physical fitness and psychological health in schoolchildren aged 10 to 12 years old. A total of 252 students were distributed in experimental (EG, games-centered activities) and control (CG, traditional exercise training activities) groups. The program lasted 6 months. Health-related physical fitness components, psychological wellbeing, self-esteem, stress, and anxiety were assessed before and after the treatment. Both groups increased physical fitness at post-test; however, cardiorespiratory fitness did not improve. No differences were found between the groups at post-test. Our results show that games may be as effective as traditional training methods; yet, they suggest that PE alone may be insufficient for obtaining substantive benefits in cardiorespiratory fitness, regardless of the type of task presented.

Abstract:
The transformation of the education system is taking place in modern Russia. There is a transition to a flexible learning system, adapted to the educational needs of every person with any age, cultural, linguistic affiliation. Practical training disciplines are becoming increasingly important. Academic disciplines that form universal competencies are transferred to online learning. Physical Education is such disciplines. All theoretical training is translated online, and the share of classes in the gym is minimized. The purpose of this pilot study is to identify the actual mental state of students in the gym in the conditions of using game and competitive methods. In addition, an important task is to compare the well-being, activity and mood of students studying physical education in the gym and online. An adapted version of the Dembo-Rubinstein technique was used to diagnose such indicators of the current mental state as well-being, activity and mood. The dynamics of these indicators in the conditions of employment in the gym using game and competitive methods was studied using a formative experiment. It was established that real classes in the gym have a positive effect on the actual mental state of students. Most students have improved health, mood, and increased activity. At the same time, classes using the game method, in contrast to classes using the competitive method, are much more effective for activating students and improving their mood. Comparison of indicators of the actual mental state of students in real classes in the gym and online showed that classes in the gym are able to more effectively influence the mood and activity of students.

Abstract:
The article reveals the peculiarities of the use of athletics to improve the physical fitness of students of higher education institutions. The influence of physical education on motivation for athletics is also revealed. It is established that the use of means and methods of athletics in physical education classes in higher education institutions leads to a significant increase in the level of physical fitness. It was found that one of the factors influencing the growth of student morbidity and low level of their physical development is the lack of physical activity. The combination of these factors determines the level of physical fitness and efficiency, which, in turn, are important indicators of professional training of students. However, the use of other methods of strength development, the method of unsatisfactory efforts with a normalized number of repetitions, the method of unsatisfactory efforts with the maximum number of repetitions, the method of dynamic efforts, the shock method, the method of static efforts, the static-dynamic method, the method of circular training, the game method has a beneficial effect on the development of all physical qualities. The decrease in the indicators of general physical fitness is facilitated by the fact that during the holidays, students practically do not go in for sports on their own. As the analysis of the survey has shown, only students of higher educational institutions are independently engaged in physical culture.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to develop a methodologically reasonable algorithm for constructing the process of organizing and conducting role mobile games in physical education classes in primary school. The following methods were used: literature analysis, observation, pedagogical modeling. The elaborated step-by-step algorithm of the teacher’s actions in organizing and conducting a role-playing game includes a number of detailed steps. The first part of them concerns the preliminary preparing and organizing of a game, and the second concerns the direct implementation during physical education classes. The preliminary organization stage provides for such actions: this is the development of the game or its choice from a list of previously developed games, taking into account the full range of requirements for such games; clear statement and awareness of the tasks that must be solved during the role mobile game; development of content, rules of the game and motor actions – considering that the content should include useful physical exercises, and the fascinating plot should stimulate positive emotions; determining the place of the game in the structure of physical education class; preliminary analysis of the game; choice of teaching and training methods; determining the list of game participants, distribution of children into teams and game roles; preparation of the venue and inventory. The direct conduct of the game provides for such teacher’s actions: explanation to schoolchildren of the content and rules of the game, the essence of the game roles; direct control of the game – surveillance and control of children, learning play actions and techniques, maintaining game discipline, rational construction of children’s motor activity; organized completion of the game process, analysis of important game moments, evaluation of results, and formulation of conclusions.

Research methods: theoretical analysis and generalization, study of documentary materials, system analysis. Results. It is recommended to division of classes into the following types: training, training-game, game, individual training, control, mass bathing. This step is done for providing methodically correct swimming training. Significant experience in the implementation of swimming training tasks for different groups of population is defined by the availability of thorough information of educational and methodical nature. The issue of swimming training as an integral part of personal development has received considerable attention since the middle of the twentieth century. In the sequence of training, in addition of stages, it is necessary to provide the degree of assimilation educational material. In general, we can offer a scheme in the form of "new element - development - consolidation - control - a new element." In the educational process, it is recommended to form at students a sufficient arsenal of specific swimming actions. There was identified need to combine technical exercises into complexes defined by target installations. Changing the speed of movement, tempo-rhythmic execution of movements (in full coordination or different biolanks) are regulators for observance of methodical tasks. Conclusions. The generalization of scientific and methodical literature gives us reason to assert the existence of an extremely large number of information sources on swimming training for different groups of the population. In order to avoid duplication of fundamental approaches to swimming training and adhering to the paradigm of this process in the methodical component should focus on the content of successive tasks of different individual and motivational levels of the swimming training system for students. To swimming training of student youth and maintain content priorities, it is necessary to focus on achieving a certain level of skill in accordance with the goals of a certain individual and motivational level of classes. The basic prerequisites are the laying the broad technical base, which provides mastering and improvement different ways of swimming techniques and gradual increase of physical fitness and improvement of the physical qualities development.

Abstract:
Virtual reality (VR) has been widely used as a tool to assist people by letting them learn and simulate situations that are too dangerous and risky to practice in real life, and one of these is road safety training for children. Traditional video- and presentation-based road safety training has average output results as it lacks physical practice and the involvement of children during training, without any practical testing examination to check the learned abilities of a child before their exposure to real-world environments. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a 3D realistic open-ended VR and Kinect sensor-based training setup using the Unity game engine, wherein children are educated and involved in road safety exercises. The proposed system applies the concepts of VR in a game-like setting to let the children learn about traffic rules and practice them in their homes without any risk of being exposed to the outside environment. Thus, with our interactive and immersive training environment, we aim to minimize road accidents involving children and contribute to the generic domain of healthcare. Furthermore, the proposed framework evaluates the overall performance of the students in a virtual environment (VE) to develop their road-awareness skills. To ensure safety, the proposed system has an extra examination layer for children’s abilities evaluation, whereby a child is considered fit for real-world practice in cases where they fulfil certain criteria by achieving set scores. To show the robustness and stability of the proposed system, we conduct four types of subjective activities by involving a group of ten students with average grades in their classes. The experimental results show the positive effect of the proposed system in improving the road crossing behavior of the children.

Abstract:
Oina is a sports game with a limited spread, especially in the rural areas and particularly around some centers with tradition throughout the country. The most recent articles and studies attempt to crystallize their own methodology, oriented towards the modern, global way, but without denying the opportunity to use the analytical method in certain situations, moments or stages of the training process. Studying the specialty literature, we deduce that the oina game is based on a limited number of research and the learning methodology is based on studies and research done in other sports games. The opinion of the people in the oina field, unanimously accepted, is that at present, the literature regarding this field is incomplete and in fact, it is clearly outrun by the practical side of the problem. At the level of school education for both physical education classes and the classes in sports circles, we do not find many published studies although, in the schools where the oina game is practiced, there is an intense practical training activity.

Abstract:
Abstract. In recent years, we have identified a trend towards a change in the concepts and methodologies of soccer training. The traditional paradigm has given way to new proposals that understand the game from a holistic perspective. This break has led to the emergence of new ways of conceiving training. These training methods are close to each sport’s specificity. One of the methods that has raised more interest, due to its repercussions in professional soccer thanks to successful coaches, is the Tactical Periodization. This idea is based on the conception of game model as a fundamental element from which different game patterns grow, each of them needing to be reproduced later in the training. On account of a lack of practical proposals showing clear guidelines for the development of a game model, we try to present a personal design starting from i) a conceptual analysis of the game model, ii) the identification of the elements that this model needs to show, and iii) a practical development of each element, which serves as route map for those professionals who wish to delve into this training approach in soccer.
