Purpose – This paper aims to present a model that explains how knowledge contributions of international joint venture (“IJV”) partners can be balanced or imbalanced, which affects each partners’ trust needs, with implications for future partner relationships. Design/methodology/approach – Illustrative examples aid in explaining propositions associated with the knowledge/trust needs balance model. In addition, consideration is given to the trust-building complication of liability of foreignness and the implications balance or imbalance. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of this approach.

A nonlinear model for human balancing subjected to a saturated delayed proportional–derivative–acceleration (PDA) feedback is analysed. Compared to the proportional–derivative (PD) controller, it is confirmed that the PDA controller improves local stability even for large feedback delays. However, it is shown that the saturated PDA controller typically introduces subcritical Hopf bifurcation into the system, which can also lead to falling for large enough perturbations. The subcriticality becomes stronger as the acceleration feedback gain increases or the saturation torque limit decreases. The

AbstractMany critics of the proportionality principle argue that balancing is an instrument of judicial self-empowerment. This contribution argues that the relationship between balancing and judicial power is more complex. Balancing does not necessarily create judicial power, but it presupposes it. This argument is confirmed through a case study of the German Federal Constitutional Court. The analysis shows that the German Constitutional Court was very reluctant to base decisions, in which it overturned legislation, on balancing in the first two and a half decades of its jurisprudence. Abstract:
This paper focusses on reducing the dynamic reactions (shaking force, shaking moment and driving torque) of plane, crank-rocker four-bars through counterweight addition. Determining the mass parameters of the counterweights constitutes an optimization problem, which is classically considered to be nonlinear and hence difficult to solve. A first contribution of this paper is the proof that this optimization problem can be reformulated as a convex program, that is, a nonlinear optimization problem that still has a unique (and hence guaranteed global) optimum, which can be found with great effici

Minimizing the bearing reactions in statically balanced linkages reduces the loads experienced by the frame; and making the bearing reactions constant in all configurations makes the linkages run smoothly. Current techniques for static balancing of a linkage using only springs and no auxiliary bodies have free parameters to be chosen by the designer. We describe methods that utilize these free parameters to impose additional conditions that make the magnitude of all bearing reactions constant in all configurations. We also show additional conditions that also minimize the constant bearing reac

The worsening healthcare emergency with the COVID-19 pandemic has demanded a prompt reaction from authorities to contain the damage related to the spread of the virus. Our aim is to provide a bioethical contribution, with a careful analysis about the balance of individual rights with those of the whole community. The protection of the right to health in the emergency phase, with the restriction of the right to work and other rights, can have long-term negative consequences on the economy, with fallout affecting funding for the healthcare system as well. The right to health in its community dim

Abstract:
Abstract The contribution of the late Professor Jorgen W. Lund in the field of rotor dynamics and fluid film bearings is presented in a condensed form with the emphasis on the experimental work and results that confirm and support many of Dr. Lund’s theories and analyses. Included are subjects of rotor balancing by the influence method, unbalance response of a flexible rotor, damped critical speeds of flexible rotors and fluid film bearing’s static, dynamic and thermal properties.
