In Balinese social customs, there are three types of marriage, namely ordinary marriage, nyentana marriage, and gelahang marriage. A gelahang marriage is a marriage where neither party says goodbye and both parties decide to maintain their status as kapurusa in fulfilling their obligations (swadharma) and rights (swadikara) in their respective families. Marriages in this gelahang are generally carried out because both parties are determined not to leave their families, so that ordinary marriages or nyentana marriages cannot occur.
