Abstract:
Cutting tools nearly make up 30% of all the manufacturing cost. Modeling and simulation of machining is essential for improving and increasing efficiency of the process. Inconel 718 alloy which is an iron-nickel based superalloy is widely used in rocket engines, turbine blades, molds and extrusion containers. The flute profile is the main part in the milling cutting tool body and has an important effect on the tool life and machining quality in milling processes. The flute profile includes rake, relief, helix and pitch angles. The conventional way of flute design, is based on trial and error w

Abstract:
This paper uses the grey relational analysis to find the optimal values of parameters of the servo drives and the controller of a five-axis CNC tool grinder in order to improve precision of grinding and accuracy of end mills. The experimental planning and design are based on the Taguchi method. There are totally six control factors in the experiments, and each factor has three levels. An L18 orthogonal array was applied for the experiments, and each experiment was repeated three times. The grey relational approach was then employed to find the optimal values to the drives and the controller. T

The complexity of mould shapes and the hardness of the mould material contribute to difficulties in machining. Examination of the capability of atypeof cutting tool (Tungsten Carbide Ball Nose) towards machining mould material that is usually used in Injection Moulding Industries. Following this, an experimental work was detailed relating to the use of ball nose end mill to machine hardened injection mould materials (up to 62 HRC).Surface roughness, surface topography and tool wear data were presented. The relationships of all these three properties respect to each other were also investigated

Components with generally shaped surfaces requiring higher surface quality and dimensional accuracy are, in most cases, machined. Specifically, milling technology is involved very often, which can be supplemented by finishing operations. Besides standard ball-nose end mills, circle segment end mills are modern type of cutter that has begun to be used with the development of advanced computer aided machining software, that allows to work with these shaped tools. In this research, comparing the performance of these two modern shaped end mills was investigated. One tool was a commercially availab

In recent years, a high quality and accurately manufactured surface is needed for micro channels for micro-TAS (micro-total analysis systems, a kind of MEMS technology) chips in medical fields. We demonstrated that the use of smaller machine tools is an effective method to reduce the environmental impact in the small parts manufacturing field. Then, in this report, we focus on magnetic polishing for micro channels with a ball-nose-shaped tool, integrating the end milling and polishing processes in a desktop-sized machine tool. The magnetic brush was formed by adhering a magnetic polishing past
