Abstract:
Sifat fisik balsem stick dipengaruhi oleh komponen yang digunakan yaitu minyak, lilin dan lemak. Penggunaan minyak yang memiliki kandungan asam lemak yang berbeda akan mempengaruhi sifat fisik balsem stick. Pemilihan komponen yang tepat diharapkan akan menghasilkan titik lebur dan kekerasan yang baik dan sesuai dengan persyaratan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh minyak zaitun, VCO dan minyak jojoba terhadap sifat fisik balsem stick. Pengujian sifat balsem stick meliputi uji organoleptik, homogenitas, titik lebur dan kekerasan. Hasil pengujian sifat fisik ini diperoleh penggunaan VCO memiliki titik lebur dan kekerasan yang tinggi yaitu 56˚C dan 2,83 mm. Hasil data statistik menunjukkan sig <0,05 yang berarti terdapat perbedaan dari setiap formula. Balsem stick jintan hitam dari setiap fomula dilakukan aktivitas antiinflamasi subakut. Aktivitas antiinflamasi subakut menggunakan metode granuloma pouch dengan penginduksian karagenan. Parameter yang diamati adalah jumlah leukosit total. Hasil data statistik menunjukkan bahwa jumlah leukosit kontrol negatif berbeda bermakna pada seluruh kelompok (p<0,05). Ketiga formula juga menunjukkan jumlah leukosit totalnya berbeda bermakna dengan kelompok positif (p<0,05). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan perbedaan jenis minyak pada formula balsem stick jintan hitam tidak mempengaruhi aktivitas antiinflamasi dalam menurunkan jumlah leukosit total.

Abstract:
Jahe berkembang secara cepat dan pemanfaatan yang luas dengan sistem pengolahan tepat guna. Kandungan senyawa kimia utama yang terdapat pada jahe adalah minyak atsiri, oleoresin dan pati. Ekstraksi oleoresin dari rimpang jahe semakin banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan obat. Penelitian ini bertujuan melakukan ekstraksi oleoresin dari jahe dan dimanfaatkan sebagai sediaan balsem stik. Proses ekstraksi dilakukan pada suhu 40◦c dengan waktu 3 jam menggunakan pelarut etanol 96% dengan perbandingan 1 : 5 yaitu serbuk jahe dengan ukuran ± 40 mesh sebanyak 300 gram dengan pelarut 1500 ml. Hasil ekstraksi dipisahkan menggunakan rotary vakum evaporator sehingga diperoleh ekstrak kental oleoresin. Hasil standarisasi serbuk simplisia jahe merah memenuhi persyaratan yang telah ditetapkan. Hasil dari ke 4 formula menunjukan bahwa balsem stik memenuhi persyaratan evaluasi sediaan balsem stik. Formula 3 dengan 10 %(b/v) ekstrak jahe merah dipilih sebagai formula terbaik karena menghasilkan rasa hangat yang lebih bagus.

Abstract:
O objetivo deste trabalho é refletir sobre os sentidos e usos associados à preservação da prática dos balseiros que atuaram na década de 1920 em Itá, Santa Catarina, cujos saberes e fazeres vêm sendo (re)afirmados pelo Museu do Balseiro e de como o turismo local tem sido trabalhado no campo do patrimônio cultural. Apesar dos impactos da ação madeireira no meio ambiente, esse ofício se constitui em patrimônio cultural da região, pela produção de artefatos, meios de transporte e ferramentas de trabalho, fundamentado teoricamente na Museologia Social, Nova Museologia e Educação Para o Patrimônio. A metodologia inclui pesquisa documental de roteiro turístico e cultural que citam o museu, desenvolvidos pela Secretaria de Turismo, bem como de um projeto escolar, como referência para montagem de uma réplica de balsa, feita por alunos da Escola Municipal Valentim Bernardi. Analisa o impacto do turismo na patrimonialização do ofício do balseiro e os resultados da experiência como ação de educação para o patrimônio, a partir de relatos da coordenadora do projeto e alunos participantes, reunidos no momento de seu reencontro com a obra exposta no Museu. Discute as relações entre patrimônio cultural, Turismo e Educação para o Patrimônio, a fim de compreender o lugar que cultura e patrimônio ocupam em uma cidade turisticamente explorada. Problematiza as ações turísticas focadas nos espaços culturais, de recuperação e de preservação do patrimônio cultural dos balseiros na rede de ensino, e como estas têm sido negociadas e associadas à história local. Conclui que o turismo em Itá tem objetivos meramente econômicos e que desconhece a experiência de patrimonialização do ofício de balseiro como estratégia de recuperação de memórias e de educação para o patrimônio, por meio da apropriação de elementos da cultura do colonizador.

Abstract:
Penyakit infeksi ialah penyakit yang disebabkan oleh masuk dan berkembangbiaknya mikroorganisme seperti bakteri. Tumbuhan balsem (Polygala paniculata L.) bermanfaat dalam menyembuhkan gonorrhoea, rematik dan menyembuhkan luka. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol tumbuhan balsem dan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan eksperimental, dan pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode difusi agar. Variasi konsentrasi ektrak terdiri dari 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, Akuades sebagai kontrol negatif dan kloramfenikol sebagai kontrol positif. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pada semua konsentrasi menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri dengan katergori sedang.

Abstract:
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui lama umur simpan dan tingkat penerimaan konsumen terhadap produk biofarmaka (balsem, salep dan obat cair). Variabel pengamatan dalam penelitian ini meliputi uji fungi, uji keamanan produk, pengamatan umur simpan, dan tingkat penerimaan konsumen terhadap produk biofarmaka. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Teknologi Pertanian Universitas Bengkulu. Data yang diperoleh dari hasil pengamatan uji fungi, uji keamanan dan umur simpan produk dianalisa secara deskriptif sedangkan untuk tingkat penerimaan konsumen dilakukan dengan uji penerimaan atau uji hedonik, uji penerimaan konsumen ini melibatkan 10 orang mahasiswa Unib dan 15 orang dari masyarakat Kota Manna Kabupaten Bengkulu Selatan. Dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat penerimaan konsumen terhadap jenis produk yang paling disukai adalah produk balsem dengan jumlah persentase sebesar 94%, sedangkan produk pilihan kedua adalah salep dengan jumlah persentase 87,6% dan diikuti oleh produk obat cair 77,6% sebagai produk pilihan ketiga sedangkan lama umur simpan terhadap masing-masing produk biofarmaka lebih dari satu bulan untuk produk balsem, salep dan obat cair dengan dosis 5% dan 10%. Sedangkan dengan dosis 1% untuk produk obat cair hanya mampu bertahan dengan umur simpan selama 23 hari untuk ulangan pertama dan 24 hari untuk ulangan kedua dan ketiga

Resumo: O primeiro dia de agosto do ano 2005 foi o aniversário número 50 da primeira aula ditada no Instituto Balseiro, um centro de formação em física e engenharias localizado na cidade de Bariloche, Argentina. Esse aniversário motivou a organização de uma jornada de comemoração desenvolvida em dois momentos: um ato público e um almoço. Esses momentos mudaram nas práticas que os configuraram. Porém, coincidiram em colocar como eixo do festejo duas narrativas - matrizes organizadoras da experiência ¿ em particular: a tradição ou versão legítima do passado e a narrativa de comunidade como modelo da pertença. Ambas as narrativas, constituídas também pelo emocional, atualizaram no seio do evento uma arena de disputa a respeito da relevância de se produzir ciência e tecnologia no país. Esta tese de doutorado se estrutura a partir de uma aproximação etnográfica à comemoração e a seus objetos de festejo. Uma aproximação etnográfica orientada pelas potencialidades analíticas do evento definido como performance. Abstract: August 1st, 2005 was the 50th anniversary of the first physics class of Instituto Balseiro, a training center in physics and engineering located in Bariloche city, Argentina. This anniversary motivated the organization of a whole-day of commemoration developed in two ¿moments¿: a public act and a lunch. These moments were different in relation to the practices that molded them, but similar in placing as the core of the celebration two punctual narratives that played an important role in organizing the experience: the tradition or legitimate version of the past, and the community narrative as a model of belonging. Both narratives, also crossed by emotional issues, update, in the context of the ceremony, a disputing arena about the importance of producing science and technology in the country. This doctoral thesis is structured from an ethnographic approach to the celebration and its objects of festivity. An ethnographic approach guided by the theoretical potentialities of the celebration qua performance. This is to say, qua act that enables forms of representation and staging that show interpretations about the world and that produces, at the same time, effects on it

Abstract:
The materialisation of Inka state identity in the lower Yanamayo Valley is discussed in opposition to that of the local collective identity, referred to here as Marañón, on the basis of the archaeological settlement pattern of the lower Yanamayo Valley. The distribution of Inka and Marañón architecture —productive, administrative and mortuary— in fluvial Yunga settings generally, and around the ferry port at Pogtán in particular, suggests different strategies to claim rights of access and use over the Yunga oasis, and over the crossing of the Marañón river.Inka architecture is found along the Qapaq Naani, as well as on a secondary Inka road, described here for the first time. The "Yanamayo Yunga Naani" links central Conchucos (departamento de Ancash) with Huacrachuco and the Cordillera Oriental (departamento de Huánuco). The Late Intermediate Period/Late Horizon Marañón architecture, is regarded conceptualized as the result of a regional historical trajectory, which was impacted upon by the Inka expansion.
El reflejo material de la identidad del Estado inka en el bajo río Yanamayo se discute en contraposición a aquel de la identidad local, para este caso denominada Marañón, sobre la base de patrones de asentamiento arqueológicos en el bajo río Yanamayo. La distribución de la arquitectura productiva, administrativa y mortuoria tanto inka como marañón en la Yunga fluvial y, especialmente, en las inmediaciones del puerto balsero de Pogtán, indican estrategias diferentes para reclamar derechos de propiedad y de usufructo sobre los oasis de Yunga interandina, así como sobre el cruce del río Marañón.La arquitectura inka se distribuye a lo largo del Qapaq Naani, así como en un ramal secundario, descrito aquí por primera vez. El "Yanamayo Yunga Naani" vincula la zona de Conchucos central (departamento de Ancash) con Huacrachuco y la Cordillera Oriental (departamento de Huánuco). Se plantea que la distribución tanto de la arquitectura marañón del Periodo Intermedio Tardío y del Horizonte Tardío es el resultado de una larga trayectoria de desarrollo histórico regional, que recibió el impacto de la expansión inka.

O património vernáculo deve ser considerado como um sistemacaracterizado pelo diálogo que estabelece com o meio físico e cultural.Reconhecendo esta indissociável relação pretende-se, nesta dissertação,salvaguardar, caracterizar e reabilitar um sistema patrimonial, poucodocumentado, e em avançado estado de degradação, correndo o risco dese perder. Assim, a investigação tem como base o estudo da herançamolinológica de Magueija, questionando qual o papel que os moinhos dorio Balsemão, enquanto suportes de memória, podem ter na reconstruçãodo território e na sua adaptação a novos usos.Partindo do aprofundamento dos conceitos de Património,Paisagem e Turismo, e do estudo sobre as tipologias molinológicas,propõe-se a inventariação e estudo das unidades de moagem, assim comoa criação da Rota dos Moinhos do rio Balsemão, com o objectivo da suadivulgação, salvaguarda e preservação, enquanto dispositivo identitário,cultural e turístico.Deste modo, considera-se uma estratégia baseada numa leituracrítica, que defenda este património como um sistema, capaz decompreender o lugar e que tenha como princípio a relação dialéctica entreo novo e o antigo, preservando a sua memória e a identidade local. Vernacular heritage should be considered as a system characterizedby the dialogue established between the physical and cultural environment.Recognizing this inseparable relation, this thesis intends to safeguard,characterize and rehabilitate a patrimonial system, poorly documented andin an advanced state of degradation, risking its loss. Thereby, this researchis based on the study of the milling heritage of Magueija, questioning therole the mills in Balsemão river, supported by its memory, may have in thereconstruction of the territory and its adaptation to new uses.Starting with the understanding of the concepts Heritage,Landscape and Tourism, and the study on the molinological typologies, it'sproposed the inventory and study of the milling units, as well as the creationof a Balsemão river Mills' Route, for the purpose of its dissemination,safeguarding and preservation, as an identity, cultural and tourist support.This way it´s a challenge to consider a strategy based on a criticalreading which defends this heritage as a system, capable of understandingthe place whose principal is the dialectical relation between the new and theold, preserving its memory and local identity. Finally, an intervention proposaltakes place on Moinho da Ponte, which proposes itself as a pilot project withan interpretive program, able to serve as a starting point to the safeguard ofthis territorial system, opening new possibilities to contemporary use andfruition.

Thereby, this researchis based on the study of the milling heritage of Magueija, questioning therole the mills in Balsemão river, supported by its memory, may have in thereconstruction of the territory and its adaptation to new uses.Starting with the understanding of the concepts Heritage,Landscape and Tourism, and the study on the molinological typologies, it'sproposed the inventory and study of the milling units, as well as the creationof a Balsemão river Mills' Route, for the purpose of its dissemination,safeguarding and preservation, as an identity, cultural and tourist support.This way it´s a challenge to consider a strategy based on a criticalreading which defends this heritage as a system, capable of understandingthe place whose principal is the dialectical relation between the new and theold, preserving its memory and local identity. Finally, an intervention proposaltakes place on Moinho da Ponte, which proposes itself as a pilot project withan interpretive program, able to serve as a starting point to the safeguard ofthis territorial system, opening new possibilities to contemporary use andfruition.

Abstract:
This chapter investigates El Nuevo Herald and Miami Times coverage of the 1994 Balsero crisis. In response to the crisis, the Clinton administration began closing the open-door welcome to Cuban refugees. The Herald conveyed Cuban-American anger and sense of betrayal, as they rallied to the Balseros’ cause. The chapter argues that the Herald capitalized on the white mainstream belief that immigrants can become “good immigrants” by demonstrating willingness to suffer for privileges rather than expect handouts. In the Times, African-Americans continued to critique the differential treatment of black Haitians and “white” Cubans, and voiced frustration that after more than a century as suffering “Americans,” blacks were still deemed unworthy citizens by white elites. Taken together, the chapter offer a critique to an unspoken rule of U.S. citizenship which requires suffering from racialized groups, and contends that interethnic conflict emerges as groups are coerced to compete over who has suffered most.
