Abstract:
The subject of the article are the names of women – settlers from Bamberg who had lived in the urban villages of Poznań since 1719, and representatives of next generations of Bamberg families. The eponymous Bamberka is treated as an element of the cultural heritage of Poznanians (in both tangible and intangible aspect). The question about Bamberka’s Poznańness refers to the attribution of the same stereotypical traits and common values reproduced on an onymic plane to both Poznanians and Bambers. The model of a Catholic, founded on considering religion an authority in all social matters, determined choices of names made by Bambers and native inhabitants of villages in the suburbs of Poznań to the same degree. The author proves that common values, cultural connotations and onymic stereotypes favoured integration of both groups.

Abstract:

Abstract:
W artykule omówiono spuściznę zmarłej w 2011 r. prof. Marii Paradowskiej, długoletniej kierownik Instytutu Archeologii i Etnologii PAN. W poszczególnych paragrafach przedstawiono rodzaje dokumentacji przekazanej do zbiorów PAN Archiwum w Warszawie Oddział w Poznaniu. Paradowskiej. The Heritage of Professor Maria Paradowska in the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poznan Branch The article discusses the heritage of the late professor Maria Paradowska (died in 2011), longserving head of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Each paragraph presents types of documents conveyed to the collection of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poznań branch. Here, the most broadly discussed are the publications on the Bamberg settlers in Poznań, including materials on the Society of Poznań Bamberg Settlers, the annual organization of the Bamberg Festival, and the creation and operation of the museum dedicated to the Bamberg community in Poznań (opened in 2003). The next part of the text focuses on documentation on Polish emigrants in Central America, gathered by prof. Paradowska. In this group, the materials on life and work of father Ignacy Posadzy (the first superior of the The Society of Christ Fathers for Poles Living Abroad) clearly stand out. The analysis of prof. Paradowska’s heritage reveals not only her research areas, but also her character.

Narrative research is frequently described as a rich and diverse enterprise, yet the kinds of narrative data that it bases itself on present a striking consensus: they are autobiographical in kind (i.e., about non-shared, personal experience, single past events). In this paper, I put forth a case for under-represented narrative data which I collectively call (following Bamberg 2004a, b; also Georgakopoulou & Bamberg, 2005) “small stories” (partly literally, partly metaphorically). My aim is to flesh small stories out, to urge for the sort of systematic research that will establish connections between their interactional features and their sites of engagement and finally to consider the implications of their inclusion in narrative research for identity analysis (as the main agenda of much of narrative research). I will thus propose small stories research as a “new” narrative turn that can provide a needed meeting point for narrative analysis and narrative inquiry.

Kitamura sensei, ladies and gentlemen: the remarks which follow will be the last communication by which our colloquium on cataclysmic variables is to be brought to its conclusion; and I appreciate the invitation of its organizing committee to use the remaining time we have together in the congenial atmosphere created for us at Bamberg, in an attempt at a summary of what we heard here in the past few days from several hundred colleagues who gathered here from many parts of the world - to survey the present state of our subject, and consider together where do we go from here. The time for this purpose makes it impossible to touch upon all exciting developments in the field of cataclysmic variables reported at Bamberg in the past few days; but certain general features have emerged from the programme of our colloquium which it may be appropriate to recall.

Abstract:
Rodrigo Jimenez de Rada's Historia Romanorum depends, when describing some of Aeneas's adventures and the origins of Rome, both on the anonymous paraphrase of the Excidium Troie called Excidium, and on the paraphrase of Paul the Deacon's Historia Romana copied in some manuscripts related to the codex Bamberg, Staatsbibliothek Hist. 3. Some features of Jimenez de Rada's Historia de rebus Hispanie also follow the paraphrase of Exordia Scythica copied in the same family of manuscripts. The antigraphus of the Bamberg codex, probably written in Campania in the tenth century, seems to have been the textual model for Jimenez de Rada, a man who used to travel to Italy and visit the papal court. Besides proving this fact, this paper aims to follow the steps of Excidium Troie, a text whose presence in medieval Spain is detectable, although in a particular version, in some manuscripts of the late 13th century.

Abstract:
Abstract While sociolinguistic studies of politeness and identities present many disciplinary parallels, their paths have seldom intersected (Garcés-Conejos Blitvich & Sifianou, 2017, p. 227). It is within this context that this paper uses “small stories” research (Bamberg, 2006; Georgakopoulou, 2006, 2007) and identities analysis to study politeness-in-interaction (Georgakopoulou, 2013b). It particularly looks at a group of young Greek women, and focuses on their “small stories” about the tellers’ and others’ management of politeness norms in intimate relationships. A multi-method approach to data collection is used that involves both naturally-occurring narratives-in-interactions in self-recordings, and reflexive tellings in playback interviews. Drawing on Georgakopoulou’s (2007) triptych of “ways of telling-sites-tellers”, and on Bamberg’s (1997) model of positioning, the analysis illustrates the significance of politeness-related identity claims for signaling lay norms of politeness ratified by the local group of friends. It also shows how politeness construction is intertwined with the interactional fabrication of identities.
