Abstract:
In four recent publications (Wunderlin 2011, Bandyopadhyay et al. 2012, Bandyopadhyay 2013, Mackinder & Clark 2014), altogether seventy-two new combinations have been made in Phanera Loureiro (1790: 37–38) from the Old World because the subgenus Phanera Loureiro (1790: 37–38) (see Wunderlin et al. 1987, Bandyopadhyay 1999) under Bauhinia Linnaeus (1753: 374) is recognized as a genus distinct from the latter based on recent advances in molecular phylogeny (Lewis &Forest 2005, Bruneau et al. 2008, Sinou et al. 2009). I have proposed here one more new combination in Phanera as follows.

Full text
Abstract:
We discuss the use of the Gilbert algorithm to tailor entanglement witnesses for unextendible product basis bound entangled states (UPB BE states). The method relies on the fact that an optimal entanglement witness is given by a plane perpendicular to a line between the reference state, entanglement of which is to be witnessed, and its closest separable state (CSS). The Gilbert algorithm finds an approximation of CSS. In this article, we investigate if this approximation can be good enough to yield a valid entanglement witness. We compare witnesses found with Gilbert algorithm and those given by Bandyopadhyay–Ghosh–Roychowdhury (BGR) construction. This comparison allows us to learn about the amount of entanglement and we find a relationship between it and a feature of the construction of UPBBE states, namely the size of their central tile. We show that in most studied cases, witnesses found with the Gilbert algorithm in this work are more optimal than ones obtained by Bandyopadhyay, Ghosh, and Roychowdhury. This result implies the increased tolerance to experimental imperfections in a realization of the state.

Abstract:
We revisit the problem of mutually unbiased measurements in the context of estimating the unknown state of a d-level quantum system, first studied (in the framework of quantum information) by Wootters and fields7 in 1989 and later investigated by Bandyopadhyay et al.3 in 2001 and Pittenger and Rubin6 in 2003. Our approach is based directly on the Weyl operators in the L2-space over a finite field when d=pr is the power of a prime. When d is not a prime power we sacrifice a bit of optimality and construct a recovery operator for reconstructing the unknown state from the probabilities of elementary events in different measurements.

Abstract:
Asia, a region grappling with the impacts of climate change, increasing natural disasters, and transboundary water issues, faces major challenges to water security. Water resources there are closely tied to the dramatic Hindu-Kush Himalayan (HKH) mountain range, where over 46,000 glaciers hold some of the largest repositories of fresh water on earth (Qiu 2010). Often described as the water tower of Asia, the HKH harbors the snow and ice that form the headwaters of the continent's major rivers (Bandyopadhyay 2013). Downstream, this network of river systems sustains more than 1.3 billion people who depend on these freshwater sources for their consumption and agricultural production, and increasingly as a source of hydropower (Immerzeel, Van Beek, and Bierkens 2010; National Research Council 2012; Rasul 2014).

Abstract:
There are several “molecular machines” that have been devised on a nanometer scale, made from proteins, DNA, and other molecules. A molecular machine is a system that generates physical forces at the atomic level, controlled by an external stimulus. Since all of the proposed circuits connect components linearly, they only communicate with one machine at a time. Now, Anirban Bandyopadhyay and Somobrata Acharya have devised an ingenious device that has the potential to communicate different instructions to many molecular machines simultaneously. They demonstrated that 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1–4-benzoquinone (duroquinone; DRQ) can be assembled as 17 identical molecules, one central molecule surrounded radially by 16 others. The central molecule can control the conformation of all the others when switched to one of four logic states by suitable pulses from an atomic sharp needle of a scanning tunneling microscope (STM).

Abstract:
The cluster validity index plays an important role in most clustering algorithm based natural computations. So far, four typical cluster validity indexes have been proposed for clustering data with different structures, including the Euclid distance based Pakhira–Bandyopadhyay–Maulik index, the kernel function induced Chou–Su measure, the point symmetry distance based index and the manifold distance (MD) induced index. However, there is no detailed comparison made among these indexes. This paper compares these four cluster validity indexes by using a simple clustering technique based on particle swarm optimization (PSO). Extensive experiments on a large number of artificial synthesized data sets and UC Irvine data sets, texture images and synthetic-aperture radar images are performed in order to make a comprehensive comparison. Experimental results show that the PSO-based clustering algorithm using the MD induced index has a good performance on most of the data sets.

Abstract:
The higher-order growth rate of instability for obliquely propagating kinetic Alfvén and ion-acoustic solitons in a magnetized non-thermal plasma have been obtained by the multiple-scale perturbation expansion method developed by Allen and Rowlands (1993). The growth rate of instability is obtained correct to order k2, where k is the wave number of a long-wavelength plane-wave perturbation. The corresponding lowest-order stability analysis has been considered recently by Bandyopadhyay and Das (2000b). It has been found that the kinetic Alfvén solitary waves are stable at the order of k but are unstable at the order of k2. It has also been found that the growth rate of instability at the order of k for ion-acoustic solitary waves is free from the parameters of the non-thermal plasma but at the order of k2 depends on the parameters of the non-thermal plasma.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the cultural inheritance and the Subjugation of the oppressed in Mahasweta Devi’s play, Water (Jal), which was translated by Samik Bandyopadhyay. Mahasweta Devi, a Bengali writer, was a committed social activist, dramatist, novelist, short story writer and winner of many prestigious awards for her contribution to the field of literature and cultural studies. She has written several novels and short stories in her native language, almost half of which were later translated. Her works are based on the marginalised and the oppressed, projecting her concern for the downtrodden. In the play, the basic consent was denied for a particular group of people which in turn exploded into a rebellion. The use of characters, plot construction and structure paves way for the exploration of the conflict between the oppressor and the oppressed. This paper also focuses on the myth and the agrarian society of the post-colonial India in regard to the play.

Full text
Abstract:
Meta-analysis is a powerful statistical technique that allows social scientists to cumulate research findings across studies. Marketing researchers have used meta-analysis to measure the effectiveness of marketing mix strategies⁄ e.g., advertising, pricing, and promotion. Typically, researchers determine an average elasticity as a measure of the strategy to influence sales, and try to demonstrate causal relationship between the elasticity and some moderator variables. However, extreme caution should be exercised before making any causal inference from meta-analytic results. For example, the variance of an elasticity may be biased due to the sampling error in each estimate. Hence, the sampling error variance must be measured and accounted for before attempting to unravel any causal relationship between the elasticity and moderator variables. In this study by Bandyopadhyay⁄ a meta-analysis of advertising elasticity is done to demonstrate how to correct for the sampling error variance and measure the effect of moderator variables on elasticities. The results, according to the author, can help brand managers make useful inferences about the overall advertising effectiveness.

Abstract:
The Genus Phlogophora Treitschke, 1825 (Noctuidae: Xyleninae), widely distributed in Palaearctic and Oriental realms, is especially diverse within Indian Himalaya with 12 known species till now. Current communication reports three species new to India viz. P. meticulodina (Draudt, 1950), P. nobilis Hreblay & Ronkay, 1998 and P. szecsenyii Hreblay & Ronkay, 1998 and a new species P. similis Bandyopadhyay, Mallick, Sanyal & Chandra sp. nov., thus bringing the species number to 16 for the country, along with taxonomic key with morphology and genitalia-based diagnosis for all the Indian/Himalayan species. Out of those species, partial mitochondrial Cytochrome C Oxidase I (COI) sequences were generated for 6 species, of which 5 were novel to the NCBI GenBank. The genus had maximum species richness and abundance in Eastern Himalayan Temperate Forest spanning 1800–2500 m in Central Himalayan landscape of Darjeeling-Sikkim and Nepal. Current Habitat suitability model of six Phlogophora species indicated that temperature dependent variables like Temperature Annual Range, Temperature Seasonality and Elevation are the most contributing factors for their predicted distribution range. The genus comprising of both Polycyclic and Monocyclic species became most abundant during Post-monsoon, in cold (9–11 ºC) and humid (87–91%) nights, in areas with Annual Mean Temperature ranging within 4.6–19.9 ºC and Annual Precipitation of 1000–2800 mm.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction An array of odontogenic lesions manifest in the maxillofacial region with variable presentations. The biological behavior of lesions, such as odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), dentigerous cyst (DC), and ameloblastoma (AM) always invite debate. Glucose transporter 1 (GLUT-1) is proven to be an indicator of metabolic behavior of several benign and malignant neoplasms. Aim The purpose of this study was to evaluate the expression of GLUT-1 in OKC, DC, and AM to understand their metabolic behavior. Materials and methods Immunohistochemical expression of GLUT-1 was evaluated in each of the 15 cases of OKC, DC, and AM. The number of labeled cells, staining intensity, and membrane or cytoplasmic expressions were the parameters assessed and analyzed using chi-square test. Results All cases showed positive GLUT-1 expression: 86.6% OKC showed more than 50% labeled cells followed by DC (40%) and AM (26.5%); 53.3% OKC showed strong intensity in comparison to AM, which showed weak intensity in 53.3% cases; 86.6% of OKCs showed both membrane and cytoplasmic expression followed by DC (40%) and AM (26.6%), whereas 73.3% of AM showed only membrane expression followed by DC (60%) and OKC (13.3%). Conclusion Odontogenic keratocyst was found out to be more metabolically active followed by DC and AM. How to cite this article Bandyopadhyay A, Panda A, Behura SS, Ramachandra S, Dash KC, Mishra P. Abstract:
Some Indian historians, as well as social and political activists believed before and believe now that democracy in India in general, and in Bengal in particular has very deep roots (according to these beliefs, in 7th–8th centuries A.D. Bengal suffered political and economic decline). Such great activists of “Bengal Renaissance” as R. P. Chanda, A. K. Maitreya, R. D. Banerji (Bandyopadhyay), and R. Ch. Majumdar were the first to express this idea and comprehend Bengal as a single entity. Meanwhile the idea in question was based on a single evidence, that was written in the genealogical part of two landgrant charters of Dharmapāla, the second king of the Pāla dynasty (ca. late 8th — the beginning of 9th centuries). However modern historians, analysing the Bengali sources of the period, note the fact that generally only Buddhist historical texts contain references to the mentioned political and economic disorder, while judging by inscriptions and excavations, there is no evidence of decline. Moreover, there is no proof that Bengal existed as a single entity in pre-Muslim period at all. Distribution of inscriptions of Pālas and their neighbours in Bengal territory shows that we can identify around six or seven cultural and political regions there. Thus we could conclude that the notion of deeply rooted Indian democracy is based on the prejudiced interpretation of available sources by the Bengali historians of the early 20th century.

Abstract:
Till now there is a vast literature available on this subject both theoretically and empirically. All the studies are mostly observing this convergence/divergence nature over a long period of time. To quote some of the researches such as Trivedi (2002), Bandyopadhyay (2002), Michelle, Kirsty and Cassen (2005), Nayyar (2008), Kalra & Sodsriwiboon (2010), Ghosh (2012), Stewart and Moslares (2014), Mishra and Mishra (2017) and Chakraborty and Chakraborty (2018) all are considered long period of time to estimate the presence of convergence/divergence among Indian states. But the long term development of a region depends upon so many factors such as availability of natural resources, human resources, economic policies adopted in the region, political climate etc. Hence, when we are dealing with the issue of convergence/divergence we have to consider the above-said factors. From this point of view, this paper focuses on the short term observing of convergence/divergence particularly with reference to Indian states during the period 2011-12 to 2016-17. High Growth Group States witnessed convergence in PCNSDP while Low Growth Group States and the Total States exhibited divergent trends. The high Growth Group States converged at a rate of 49.8 per cent during the study period. The rate of divergence among the Low Growth Group States is 14.5 per cent. Regarding the Total States, the rate of divergence is observed as 12.4 per cent. Here also the high growth group states are accounted for fewer fluctuations when compared with low growth group states.
