Abstract:
This paper summarizes the results of the physical anthropological examination of the middle and late Avar-period cemetery, excavated in 2003 at the site of Biatorbágy-Hosszúrétek. Distributions of gender and age at death are described along with the morphometric analysis, stature estimation, taxonomical description and the observations of the anatomical variations, pathologies, and the dental status. The most important results indicate the presence of the pure Mongoloid type individuals in such a high ratio that the population origin definitely can be traced back to Central Asia.

Abstract:
The rapid spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Central and West Asia has prompted individual governments to quickly implement disease containment and other COVID-19 response measures. Unfortunately, these courses of action have resulted in reduced foreign remittances, declining household incomes, rising rates of unemployment, and disruptions in agricultural supply chains, which created severe impacts on the region’s food security situation. The Asian Development Bank offers a list of strategic options to enhance the region’s agricultural productivity and competitiveness as it moves

Forced by the 1997 Southeast Asian crisis to recognize the external vulnerabilities that openness to volatile capital flows result in and upset over the post-crisis policy responses imposed by the IMF, countries in the sub-region saw the need for a regional financial safety net that can pre-empt or mitigate future crises. At the outset, the aim of the initiative, then led by Japan, was to create a facility or design a mechanism that was independent of the United States and the IMF, since the former was less concerned with vulnerabilities in Asia than it was in Latin America and that the latter

In this paper, we argue that setting up a new Digital Public Infrastructure - a National Fraud Portal (NFP) - is the only way to address fraud and consumer scams efficiently. NFPs provide a technological solution as a shared facility for banks, law enforcement, the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the central bank, the conduct supervisor, and other stakeholders. Further down the line, NFPs can connect to one another as cross-border criminal activity increases (a likely consequence of suppressing fraud domestically). Asia has experienced widespread transformation and growth, accompanied by increased demographic pressure, greater intensification of agricultural production, industrialization, and urbanization. This economic growth has been very resource- and carbon-intensive, while climate change has triggered or exacerbated behaviors and defense mechanisms that have come at the expense of the natural environment. Therefore, we examine and compare three Asian Development Bank (ADB) projects in two member countries of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation: one in the People’s Republic of China (PRC)

International financial institutions (IFIs) and multilateral development banks have been playing a vital role in the response, recovery and ‘build back anew’ agenda from the COVID-19 pandemic. This is especially true of the World Bank Group (WBG), given its high volumes of committed investments across sectors, especially in low-income and vulnerable countries. This report presents, through case studies, how care-responsive the World Bank’s COVID-19-related investments have been in four member countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal and the Philippines. It does so by using the Care Principles an

Abstract:
This paper analyzes how trade costs affect exports from five Central Asian countries. It highlights how improving logistics and procedures and boosting digitalization can streamline regional trade. The paper estimates how the time needed to export goods, the monetary cost of doing so, and uncertain time frames impact exports from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It finds that the uncertainty and the high monetary costs traders face hold back exports from the five countries, along with remoteness from ports and global markets.

Black carbon – also referred to as soot – is a particulate matter that results from the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and biomass. As a major air and climate pollutant, black carbon (BC) emissions have widespread adverse effects on human health and climate change. Globally, exposure to unhealthy levels of particulate matter, including BC, is estimated to cause between three and six million excess deaths every year. These health impacts – and the related economic losses – are felt disproportionately by those living in low- and middle-income countries. Furthermore, BC is a potent greenho
