On Friday morning, September 12, 2008, the New York investment bank Lehman Brothers was on the brink of bankruptcy. Over the course of the next four days, this situation would precipitate a rapid series of crisis meetings between American and British government officials, central-bank leaders, major international banks, and private investors. Already in March of the same year, the investment bank Bear Stearns had been forced to accept a merger with JPMorgan Chase, supported by a $29 billion government guarantee, and after the mortgage lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac received a $140 billion

This study investigates the relationship between the bank strategic positioning and performance. A central question in the management literature has been to identify the sources of competitive advantage that allow firms to attain and persistent superior performance over their competitors. Bank can build competitive advantages by following either a cost leadership or a differentiation strategy. Bank adopting a cost leadership strategy principally attain advantages based on operational efficiency, and hence the performance of such firms should more persist over time than other bank adopting diff

However, the interpretation of new major and trace element analysis from minerals and bulk-rocks coupled with the mechanics of crystal-liquid separation offers an alternative explanation that alleviates the thermal restrictions required for crustal melting models. Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter introduces the concept of differentiated integration and discusses its explanatory value in view of the EU–Turkey relationship. The major aim is to elaborate whether variable geometries as a form of differentiation constituting different and sometimes even overlapping forms of association and integration with different member and non-member states can provide a soft-landing from the fallout of Turkey’s EU accession process. The chapter sets out the many faces of differentiation and examines how the conceptual approach is perceived in the European and Turkish debates. The analysis also provides a concise overview on how differentiated integration is embedded in the logics of the main European integration theories. This conceptual discussion is complemented by a detailed outline of the variable geometries that already exist in EU–Turkey relations resulting from the three distinct forms of bilateral dialogue: accession process, functional cooperation, and cooperation in international organizations. The chapter concludes by linking the empirical findings back to the conceptual analysis, thereby discussing the limits of the explanatory value of the concept as well as highlighting the modernization of the Customs Union as a potential starting point for a differentiated future of EU–Turkey relations.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter provides an analysis of structural transformations of the Lithuanian higher education landscape paying special attention to developments during Soviet times and in the period after 1990. Lithuanian higher education, which dates back to the sixteenth century, has changed from a traditional elite system to a mass system over time. Political, economic and social change, including the Soviet occupation of the country, the re-establishment of independence and Europeanization through the Bologna Process and accession to the European Union have had significant impact on the Lithuanian higher education landscape. We have identified three periods of structural change. The first period from 1990 to 2000 is characterized by the re-establishment of universities and of academic autonomy and sporadic expansion of the system. During the second phase from 2001 to 2009, main system expansion and horizontal differentiation took place due to the establishment of the private higher education sector and a boom of the non-university higher education sector. Further, vertical differentiation within the system was reinforced through the availability of EU funding. The third phase, which started in 2010, has witnessed demographic decline, increasing competition and efforts of internationalization as well as more recently also attempts at consolidation of HEIs. The major challenges for the future of this system lie in increasing trust in public authorities, breaking from path dependencies of Soviet legacy, demographic changes, brain drain and increasing competition.

Abstract:
Abstract Modulated Thermal Laser Stimulation (M-TLS) has been established as a key technique to accurately localize defects at elementary structure level, in deep submicron technologies. It has been achieved by Thermal Time Constant analysis (TTC) which allows the study of thermal exchange dynamics. In this paper, we demonstrate for the first time the efficiency of this technique on 45 nm Back End Of the Line (BEOL) defective test structure on image mode, and we underline the efficiency of the developed technique to differentiate artifacts from true defects in 45 nm BEOL structures.

Abstract:
The gender distinction between plural adjectival paradigms of обоихъ–обѣихъ is traced back to the 18th century Russian grammars: V. E. Adodurov’s, M. V. Lomonosov’s, A. A. Barsov’s. The data of the Russian Nation-al Corpus show the interchangeability of the forms of обоихъ – обѣихъin the 18th century texts. Differentiation by gender in the Russian plural paradigms was transferred rom the Church Slavonic dual paradigms of обою – обѣю. The metalinguistic construct of grammars of the 18th centuries is preserved in the normative grammars of the mod-ern Russian language, despite the fact that the g

β-Thromboglobulin ( βTG ) is a well known platelet specific a-granular protein, but synthesis of βTG by human megakaryocytes has not been fully proved. A human megakaryoblastic cell line ( MEG-01 ) was investigated for the presence of βJG in the culture medium and cell lysates using a specific radioimmunoassay ( RIA ). The concentration of βTG increased with time in the serum-free culture medium as well as in the cell lysates as shown in the following table.By an indirect immunofluorescent technique using a monospesific rabbit anti serum against human βTG, βTG antigen was detected in MEG-01 ce
