The negative consequences of customer switching behaviour in the banking industry cannot be underestimated. Since there are limited studies addressing customer switching intentions and actual switching behaviour in the banking sector of Tanzania, this study intended to bridge the knowledge gap by addressing factors influencing customer switching intentions in the context of Tanzanian commercial banks. The study followed a positivism research paradigm out of which a deductive research approach was adopted. In the same line, an explanatory research design was used. The study was conducted in the

Abstract In this conversation, Catarina de Albuquerque, former UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights to water and sanitation, and her former advisor, Virginia Roaf, discuss how menstrual health and menstruation have become critical to understanding the contribution that the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector can make to ensuring gender equality. They look back at country missions and the many conversations with women and girls that led to a closer examination of how stigma around menstruation limits access to education, work, and a life in dignity. WASH provides a strong entry point for addressing taboos relating to menstruation, but the authors identify that one must get past this often technical understanding to address deeply entrenched gender stereotypes.

Banks can become distressed for a range of reasons, just like other firms. These reasons may be internal to the distressed bank (e.g. risky lending practices) or external to it (both at industry level and at the macroeconomic level), or both. Distressed banks, however, are not always subject to the same regulatory regime that governs the treatment of distress in other kinds of firms. Banks have special characteristics and this has led to the special treatment, which is explored in this chapter. The discussions cover the justification for special treatment, special resolution regimes, bank resolution regimes at domestic level, and cross-border complexities.

This chapter focuses on non-possessory security. It begins with a discussion of mortgage and its definitions, along with a number of relevant cases such as Downsview Nominees Ltd v First City Corpn Ltd (1993) and Swiss Bank Corpn v Lloyds Bank Ltd (1982). It then considers equitable charge, which includes fixed and floating charges, and equitable lien. An equitable lien is similar to an equitable charge; both attach to property belonging to another until certain specific claims have been satisfied. One difference is that an equitable lien arises by operation of law, whereas a charge is created by agreement of the parties. The chapter also examines statutory control with respect to non-possessory security, with particular emphasis on the protection of third parties and debtors.

Abstract:
NPA is a “termite” for the banking sector. It affects liquidity and profitability of the bank to a great extent; in addition, it also poses a threat to the quality of asset and survival of banks. The post-reform era has changed the whole structure of the banking sector of India. Now, the economy is not confined to the domestic boundary of the country. The core intention of economic reforms in India was to attract foreign investments and create a sound banking system. This chapter provides an empirical approach to the analysis of profitability indicators with a focal point on Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) of commercial banks in the Indian context. The chapter discusses NPA, factors contributing to NPA, magnitude, and consequences. By using an analytical perspective, the chapter observes that NPAs affected significantly the performance of the banks in the present scenario. On the other hand, factors like better credit culture, managing the risk, and business conditions led to lowering of NPAs. The empirical findings using observation method and statistical tools like correlation, regression, and data representation techniques identify that there is a negative relationship between profitability measure and NPAs.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the U.S. enforcement campaign against Swiss banks that facilitated tax evasion by U.S. customers and its impact on the global regime for tax information sharing. After reviewing the legal and policy issues raised by offshore tax evasion, the chapter examines how the U.S. criminal prosecution of UBS led to the release of tens of thousands of U.S. customer names to the IRS, opening an unprecedented breach in Swiss bank secrecy. The UBS case opened the way for prosecutions of other Swiss banks; negotiations with Switzerland on tax disclosure; and U.S. adoption of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), which penalizes foreign banks that fail to disclose U.S. customer accounts. While the U.S. approach initially encountered significant resistance, many countries, including major offshore centers, concluded bilateral information-sharing agreements with the United States, while some onshore jurisdictions adopted FATCA-like legislation to fight offshore tax evasion. Eventually, the U.S. approach provided a model for multilateral reform through the OECD’s Common Reporting Standard (CRS), which provides automatic exchange of account information among numerous jurisdictions.

It also examines re-pledge by the pledgee, realisation, and statutory control before turning to liens. In particular, it explains how a lien arises and how it is enforced, terminated and registered. Beatriz’s exile in Cuba, her role in left-wing resistance to Chile’s dictatorship, and the emergence of a global solidarity campaign are the focus of chapter nine. It deals with her role in constructing a Cuban-led narrative of the coup and her father’s death in the immediate aftermath of 11 September 1973, as well as how Chile’s left-wing parties responded to the coup, what strategies they employed to combat it, and with what success. Examining Beatriz’s perspective as an exile in Havana, it also deals with Chilean experiences in Cuba, the support the Cuban state offered exiles as well as the problems that emerged between the island’s leaders and those that now looked to it for support. And it shows Beatriz to be stuck as an intermediary between different groups, much as she had been between different left-wing sectors back in Chile but in a far more disadvantageous position.

Abstract:
The European Central Bank (ECB) is the only central bank governed by supranational constitutional law. As such, it is not only the most important institution of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), but it also marks a new stage in the history of central banking in general. Historically, the tasks and functions of the ECB have reflected the different stages of development of the EMU. The basic principles governing its function were set out in Maastricht, reflecting the interests and ideas about Europe’s economic constitution prevailing at that time. The sovereign debt crisis that hit Europe in 2010 was the second defining moment for the ECB after Maastricht. It posited the ECB–like the rest of the EMU–to challenges that some of the drafters of the Maastricht Treaty had not fully anticipated. These new challenges led to the adoption of novel instruments and the further clarification of fundamental rules and principles. Most important of these developments was the entrustment of the ECB with a new task, banking supervision, and the adoption of unconventional measures, which proved necessary to fulfil its monetary-policy mandate. Ultimately, not only did the ECB withstand the crisis but it emerged as a protagonist in securing the unity and integrity of the EMU.

“Back in the saddle again” explains how the figure of the singing cowboy was cemented by a series of radio and Hollywood stars, from Gene Autry to Roy Rogers and Patsy Montana. Much of this music was popularized over the radio, particularly on Chicago’s National Barn Dance, which led to pressure on the Grand Ole Opry to modernize its sound. This era also saw the rise of the so-called “brother acts”—notably the Blue Sky Boys—who created a smoother form of old-time singing. During the mid-1930s, Western swing combined the cowboy image and country instrumentation with big-band stylings through the work of artists like Bob Wills.

Because of these important functions, instruments of the central bank has become a subject of ongoing debate over the years. The Central Bank's monetary policies instruments are important in terms of achieving the set macroeconomics targets. In recent years to become a major focus of attention of the interest rate corridor instrument has led to examine the structure of the central banks. The interest rate corridor primarily, provides flexibility advanta

A statistical narrow-band model is developed for the optically non-thin electronic systems of carbonaceous molecules in CO2-N2 plasmas and its accuracy is studied under equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions. Line by line calculations are used to produce curves of growth of transmissivities from which band model parameters are calculated by least-square adjustments. The model is shown to provide quite accurate description of radiative properties and radiative intensities for Doppler, Lorentz, and Voigt line profiles, and for both local thermodynamic equilibrium and a multi-temperature desc

Waste-to-energy boiler fire-side fouling is a major operational issue for many facilities, including the Commerce Refuse-to-Energy Facility. The Commerce Refuse-to-Energy Facility is a 350 ton per day, mass burn waterwall facility that began operation in 1987. Fouling occurs throughout the convection sections with the highest differential pressure occurring across the generating bank. Flue gas differential pressures and temperatures have been tracked and analyzed at the facility for approximately ten years during various operating conditions. It has been determined that the rate of increase of

Die size and thickness of IC substrate typically vary as a result of the various market demands while the semiconductor process and the product applications develop fast. In order to satisfy the market concerns, the improvement of wafer grinding and dicing saw technology is necessary to provide lighter, thinner and more reliable ICs. Generally, most of previous commercial ICs almost demonstrate the square profile, but some special applications such as liquid-crystal-display (LCD) driver ICs request approximate rectangle shape. Furthermore, the ratios of length / width of these drivers are near

Business environment reform (BER) targets inadequate business regulations. It is intended to remove constraints to business investment, enabling growth and job creation, and create opportunities for international business to contribute to and benefit from this growth. However, there is a lack of detailed knowledge of the impact of BER on gender and inclusion (G&I). While a review of existing literature suggests that in general, there is no direct link between BER and G&I, indirect links are likely through the influence of BER on firm performance. Outcomes will be influenced by the diff

Since first appearing at the end of 2019, the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread at a pace and scale not seen before. On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. A rapid response was called for, and actors across the globe worked quickly to develop sets of preventative measures to contain the disease. One mode of transmission identified early on in the crisis was via surfaces and objects (fomites) (Howard et al. 2020). To combat this, hand hygiene was put forward as a key preventative measure and heralded as ‘the first line of defence agains

Forced by the 1997 Southeast Asian crisis to recognize the external vulnerabilities that openness to volatile capital flows result in and upset over the post-crisis policy responses imposed by the IMF, countries in the sub-region saw the need for a regional financial safety net that can pre-empt or mitigate future crises. At the outset, the aim of the initiative, then led by Japan, was to create a facility or design a mechanism that was independent of the United States and the IMF, since the former was less concerned with vulnerabilities in Asia than it was in Latin America and that the latter

At the same time, total and core inflation rates have fallen and remain at low levels, suggesting that a significant element of the reactivation of Colombia’s economy has been related to recovery in potential GDP. This would support the technical staff’s diagnosis of weak aggregate demand and ample excess capacity. The most recently available data on 2020 growth suggests a contraction in economic activity of 6.8%, lowe
