Abstract:
Les trois auteurs font état de leur expérience et des stratégies mises en oeuvre dans la réalisation du projet collaboratif de Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) sur Wikimédia Commons. Ce projet vise à assurer la réalisation d’une des plus importantes missions que s’est donnée BAnQ : offrir un accès démocratique à la culture et à la connaissance. Le projet s’articule autour de quatre volets. Le premier, lancé en 2013, porte sur l’ajout de liens vers des fonds d’archives à plus de 800 articles sur l’encyclopédie collaborative Wikipédia. À l’hiver 2014, un second volet, portant cette fois sur la formation des usagers de Wikipédia, est mis en branle. Le projet Mardi c’est Wiki !, gratuit et ouvert à tous, vise à améliorer le contenu francophone de l’encyclopédie en formant les contributeurs. Le troisième volet, le projet Poirier, débute pour sa part à l’été 2014 et se veut un outil pour la sélection et la mise en ligne de centaines de photographies libres de droit sur Wikimédia. Enfin, le quatrième volet, lancé à l’automne 2014, porte sur la transcription collaborative d’ouvrages conservés par BAnQ sur Wikisource, un projet de bibliothèque numérique collaborative. Du point de vue des auteurs, ce projet et les volets qui en découlent sont des outils qui permettent le partage du patrimoine et une collaboration élargie du public. Cette participation active de BAnQ à Wikimédia Commons favorise grandement la visibilité de ses collections et, par le fait même, leur diffusion.

Les travaux qui font l’objet du présent article tirent leur origine du constat de notre ignorance commune des collections québécoises de livres anciens, constat formulé par le professeur Yvan Lamonde de l’Université McGill, spécialiste de l’histoire des idées et de l’imprimé au Québec, puis endossé par un groupe de chercheurs et de professionnels des milieux documentaires. Cet article est tiré d’une communication présentée par l’auteure lors de la séance intitulée « Le livre ancien, de la Nouvelle-France à demain. Les collections de Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec » et figurant au programme du colloque Rabelais ou « Les adventures des gens ». L’hybridité des récits rabelaisiens. Ce colloque, organisé en partenariat avec Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) par les professeurs Diane Desrosiers-Bonin, de l’Université McGill, Claude La Charité, de l’Université du Québec à Rimouski, et Renée-Claude Breitenstein, de l’Université McGill, a eu lieu du 27 au 31 août 2006. Les travaux dont il est ici question sont des projets de recherche, qu’il ne faut pas confondre avec les travaux bibliothéconomiques menés par BAnQ sur sa propre collection institutionnelle de livres anciens.

Abstract:
The rise of open data in the cultural domain is democratizing access to complex datasets usually presented as large multivariate and multilayered graphs. However, the exploration of such datasets is challenging for laypersons. The objective of this work is to develop and evaluate a new method for exploring and understanding a specific type of multilayered graph that combines a large bipartite graph with a set of tree structures. This paper proposes MuzLink, an interactive visualization tool that allows the user to navigate, search, locate, and compare collaborative and influential relationships between musical artists through the exploration of musical adaptations. The proposed tool is based on a set of connected timelines visualizing how an artist’s collaborations, inspirations, and influences evolved over time. This design study is conducted in close collaboration with BAnQ, the national library and archives agency of the Quebec government. A controlled user study, done with a group of BAnQ users, and two case studies, show how the proposed approach is capable of performing a considerable set of analytical and exploratory tasks.

Abstract:
Pour toute étude sur l’histoire de la caricature et de la satire graphique au Québec avant 1960, les fonds et les collections de Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) sont d’une richesse exceptionnelle. Ce texte présente les collections d’imprimés et les fonds d’archives utiles à la recherche en deux temps. Nous examinons d’abord les lieux de publication des documents pour faire ressortir les grandes étapes de l’évolution de la pratique caricaturale sur le territoire québécois. Ensuite, nous décrivons deux fonds d’archives pour indiquer comment des corpus très différents, composés de caricatures et d’autres documents, peuvent être utiles aux chercheurs. Premièrement, un fonds de 3600 caricatures originales signées par Albéric Bourgeois (1876-1962), véritable témoignage de l’avènement de la modernité culturelle au xx e siècle. Ensuite, un ensemble de documents associés au peintre Louis Dulongpré (1759-1843) qui montre comment la circulation de caricatures est étroitement liée aux débuts de la vie démocratique de la collectivité. Ainsi, BAnQ est riche de documents divers – originaux et reproductions – qui permettent de voir comment artistes et éditeurs ont été les artisans d’une forme d’expression qui a longtemps été au coeur de polémiques dans la société québécoise.

Abstract:
How are video games discussed through time in the Belle Province? Do Quebecers share a common and specific video game culture? We try to answer those two questions in this paper through an analysis of Bibliothèque and Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) catalogue. We compiled and analyzed a variety of discourses created and presented by (and for) Quebecers between 1978 and 2018. As we talk about different trends animating discourses on video games, we also discuss the limitations of BAnQ’s catalogue and the state of video game preservation in Quebec. We focus on a few key items pinpointed during our research at the Collection nationale.

Abstract:
A phased array feed (PAF) provides a contiguous, electronically synthesized wide field of view for large-dish astronomical observatories. Significant progress has been made in recent years in improving the sensitivity of PAF receivers though optimizing the design of the antenna array, cryogenic cooling of the front end, and implementation of real-time correlation and beamforming in digital signal processing. FLAG is a 19 dual-polarized element phased array with cryogenic LNAs, direct digitization of RF signals at the front end, digital signal transport over fiber, and a real time signal processing back end with up to 150 MHz bandwidth. The digital back end includes multiple processing modes, including real-time beamforming, real-time correlation, and a separate real-time beamformer for commensal radio transient searches. Following a polyphase filterbank operation performed in field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), beamforming, correlation, and integration are implemented on graphical processing units (GPUs) that perform parallelized operations. Parallelization greatly increases processing speed and allows for real-time signal processing. During a recent test/commissioning of FLAG, Tsys/efficiency of approximately 28 K was measured across the PAF field of view and operating bandwidth, corresponding to a system temperature below 20 K. To demonstrate the astronomical capability of the receiver, a pulsar (PSR B1937+21) was detected with the real-time beamformer. This thesis provides details on the development of the FLAG digital back end, the real-time beamformer, and reports on the commissioning tests of the FLAG PAF receiver developed by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), Green Bank Observatory (GBO), West Virginia University (WVU), and Brigham Young University for the Green Bank Telescope (GBT).

Abstract:
This thesis is concerned with the relation between bank regulation and the risk-taking behaviour of banks. Two major instruments of regulatory intervention are considered: bank levy and bank bailouts. The major objective of this thesis is to provide an answer to the following questions: Do bank levies increase the risk-taking of banks in a competitive environment? When do bank bailouts decrease banks` risk-taking? Does the international coordination of bank bailouts affect the relation between bailouts and the risk-taking behaviour of banks? Who should rescue subsidiaries of multinational banks? How could an efficient bailout policy be designed and implemented? The bank levy and cooperation between national regulators play an important role in the recently adopted Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD). This directive is a cornerstone of bank regulation in Europe. Although the conversion of debt into equity (bail-in) in emergencies is the key component of the current regulation, bailouts, or at least the assistance to struggling banks, should not be excluded. As the ordinary resolution tools, for instance, bail-in, have not yet been tested in a real crisis, and due to the fact that it will take time to prepare global institutions for such a tool, it may be useful to have an adequately designed tool of last resort available, such as an adequate bailout policy, in order to avoid the disruption of critical economic functions. We show that a bank levy may decrease banks`risk-taking behaviour. Bank bailouts can also decrease the risk-taking of banks. This depends on the regulator`s ability to condition his bailout policy in accordance with the macroeconomic environment, which has an impact on the banks` probability of success, or on his ability to condition the bailout policy on the banks` systemic relevance. Coordination of bailouts through a multinational regulator can improve welfare. The desirability of internationally coordinated bailouts depends on the dimension of the crisis. If the crisis is severe, it may be more efficient to delegate bank bailouts to a multinational regulator. However, such a delegation is not always feasible. Therefore, a predefined burden sharing of bank bailouts is necessary in order to achieve an efficient resolution of banks in distress.

La Responsabilidad Social Corporativa (RSC) es un tema de interés en la literatura académica actual y en la gestión empresarial, las empresas están incluyendo cada vez más estos aspectos en su actividad habitual. Concretamente el sector financiero, aunque es de los menos estudiados en la literatura existente, es uno de los que más invierte en materia de RSC a nivel mundial aplicando distintas políticas de responsabilidad social y medioambiental en sus negocios. Mediante el análisis en profundidad del caso del Banco Santander y utilizando un análisis cualitativo con el soporte de la herramienta del Atlas.ti este trabajo identifica en primer lugar cómo la RSC es integrada en la gestión del negocio bancario del Santander con la finalidad de cubrir las necesidades de los distintos grupos de interés identificados y de mantenerse en una posición de eficiencia financiera y de liderazgo internacional. Una vez analizada la forma de considerar la responsabilidad social dentro del negocio bancario esta investigación también propone analizar la dirección de la relación existente entre RSC y eficiencia. La relación entre la rentabilidad social y la rentabilidad financiera en el sector bancario internacional ha sido ya analizada en la literatura previa, pero en este estudio se utilizará un indicador de RSC y se relacionará mediante regresiones por cuantiles, intercuantiles y xtlogit, con un indicador de eficiencia obtenido previamente con la técnica del DEA, concluyendo en este caso la existencia de una relación bidireccional. Finalmente, el estudio de las acciones de Responsabilidad Social Corporativa que realizan los bancos permite avanzar en el conocimiento de las inversiones en materia social que realizan las entidades financieras. Medir la relación entre la RSC con la valoración de imagen de la compañía y la satisfacción de los clientes de las entidades financieras es el último objetivo principal que persigue este estudio. La relación entre estos tres constructos se complementará con el análisis multigrupo utilizando tres variables moderadoras: la tipología de cliente, la familiaridad con la entidad y su lealtad con la organización. Partiendo de los datos obtenidos de una muestra de usuarios de entidades financieras se propone un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales utilizando la técnica Parcial Least Squares (PLS). Entre los principales resultados obtenidos se puede concluir que según la evidencia empírica de esta investigación las iniciativas de RSC que desarrollan actualmente las entidades financieras no les producirán un incremento de la satisfacción de sus clientes ni de la imagen de sus entidades en el corto plazo.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an interesting topic in the current academic literature and business management; companies are increasingly including these aspects in their daily activity. Specifically, the financial sector, although it is the least studied in the literature, It’s one of the most investments in CSR globally applying different policies of social and environmental responsibility in their business. Through in-depth analysis of the case of Banco Santander and using a qualitative analysis with Atlas.ti (analysis tool) this paper first identifies how CSR is integrated into the management of the banking business of Santander in order to cover the needs of different stakeholders identified and maintained in a position of financial efficiency and international leadership. Having analysed the way to consider social responsibility in the banking business this research also aims to analyse the direction of the relationship between CSR and efficiency. The relationship between social profitability and financial profitability in the international banking sector has already been analysed in previous literature, but in this study an indicator of CSR will be used and will be linked by quantile regressions, interquantile and xtlogit, with indicator efficiency previously obtained with the technique of DEA, concluding in this case the existence of a bidirectional relationship. Finally, the study of Corporate Social Responsibility actions by banks allows advance knowledge of investments in social matters performing financial institutions. Measure the relationship between CSR with the image valuation and customer satisfaction of financial institutions is the last main objective of this study. The relationship between these three constructs are complemented by the multi-group analysis using three moderating variables: the type of client, familiarity with the organization and loyalty to the organization. Based on data obtained from a sample of users of financial institutions a model of structural equations using the technique Partial Least Squares (PLS) it is proposed. Among the main results obtained it can be concluded that according to the empirical evidence of this research CSR initiatives currently developing financial institutions will not produce them increased customer satisfaction and image of its entities in the short term.

Motiviert durch das Problem der optimalen Strategie beim Handel einer großen Aktienposition, behandelt diese Arbeit ein stochastisches Kontrollproblem mit zwei besonderen Eigenschaften. Zum einen wird davon ausgegangen, dass das Kontrollproblem eine exponentielle Verzögerung in der Kontrollvariablen beinhaltet, zum anderen nehmen wir an, dass die Koeffizienten des Kontrollproblems linear in der Kontrollvariablen sind. Wir erhalten ein degeneriertes stochastisches Kontrollproblem, dessen Lösung - sofern sie existiert - Bang-Bang-Charakter hat. Die resultierende Unstetigkeit der optimalen Kontrolle führt dazu, dass die Existenz einer optimalen Lösung nicht selbstverständlich ist und bewiesen werden muss. Es wird eine Folge von stochastischen Kontrollproblemen mit Zustandsprozessen konstruiert, deren jeweilige Diffusionsmatrix invertierbar ist und die ursprüngliche degenerierte Diffusionsmatrix approximiert. Außerdem stellen die Kostenfunktionale der Folge eine konvexe Approximation des ursprünglichen linearen Kostenfunktionals dar. Um die Konvergenz der Lösungen dieser Folge zu zeigen, stellen wir die Kontrollprobleme in Form von stochastischen Vorwärts-Rückwärts-Differential-gleichungen (FBSDEs) dar. Wir zeigen, dass die zu der konstruierten Folge von Kontrollproblemen gehörigen Lösungen der Vorwärts-Rückwärtsgleichungen – zumindest für eine Teilfolge - in Verteilung konvergieren. Mit Hilfe einer Konvexitätsannahme der Koeffizienten ist es möglich, einen Kontroll-prozess auf einem passenden Wahrscheinlichkeitsraum zu konstruieren, der optimal für das ursprüngliche stochastische Kontrollproblem ist. Neben der damit bewiesenen Existenz einer optimalen (Bang-Bang-) Lösung, wird damit auch eine glatte Approximation der unstetigen Bang-Bang-Lösung erreicht, welche man für die numerische Approximation des Problems verwenden kann. Die Ergebnisse werden schließlich dann in Form von numerischen Simulationen auf das Problem der optimalen Handels¬ausführung angewendet.
Motivated by the problem of how to optimally execute a large stock position, this thesis considers a stochastic control problem with two special properties. First, the control problem has an exponential delay in the control variable, and so the present value of the state process depends on the moving average of past control decisions. Second, the coefficients are assumed to be linear in the control variable. It is shown that a control problem with these properties generates a mathematically challenging problem. Specifically, it becomes a stochastic control problem whose solution (if one exists) has a bang-bang nature. The resulting discontinuity of the optimal solution creates difficulties in proving the existence of an optimal solution and in solving the problem with numerical methods. A sequence of stochastic control problems with state processes is constructed, whose diffusion matrices are invertible and approximate the original degenerate diffusion matrix. The cost functionals of the sequence of control problems are convex approximations of the original linear cost functional. To prove the convergence of the solutions, the control problems are written in the form of forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs). It is then shown that the solutions of the FBSDEs corresponding to the constructed sequence of control problems converge in law, at least along a subsequence. By assuming convexity of the coefficients, it is then possible to construct from this limit an admissible control process which, for an appropriate reference stochastic system, is optimal for our original stochastic control problem. In addition to proving the existence of an optimal (bang-bang) solution, we obtain a smooth approximation of the discontinuous optimal bang-bang solution, which can be used for the numerical solution of the problem. These results are then applied to the optimal execution problem in form of numerical simulations.

The increasing sophistication1of attack techniques to system security, has challenged researchers and organizations1to produce new solutions, where users have the freedom of mobility and access, these solutions not only protecting some proprietary systems, or restricting the use of certain1browsers and their versions, difficult to secure and manage, where the identification of the connection origin or hardware models and software versions are not impediments1to access to safe and efficient. Using a true Smartphone, you can determine a safe model for identifying and authenticating a user. Combining a challenge to authorize1a specific message, using a unique code for each message. The user can then capture this message and, using a entrusted computer, answer the challenge. The user camera phone is used to decipher the challenge, capturing a visual code (QR-Code). The proposed authorization protocol having a dynamic approach out-of-band and offline to secure access to Internet Banking with a second factor visual authentication.

Abstract:

The next generation satellite communication networks will provide multimedia services supporting high bit rate, mobility, ATM, and TCP/IP. In these cases, the satellite technology will act as the internetwork infrastructure of future global systems and assuming a global wireless system, no distinctions will exist between terrestrial and satellite communications systems, as well as between fixed and 3G mobile networks. In order for satellites to be successful, they must handle bursty traffic from users and provide services compatible with existing ISDN infrastructure, narrowcasting/multicasting services not offered by terrestrial ISDN, TCP/IP-compatible services for data applications, and point-to-point or point-to-multipoint on-demand compressed video services. This calls for onboard processing payloads capable of frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing and interference suppression.

This thesis introduces a new class of oversampled complex modulated filter banks capable of providing frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing. Under certain system constraints, the system can handle all possible shifts of different user signals and provide variable bandwidths to users. Furthermore, the aliasing signals are attenuated by the stopband attenuation of the channel filter thus ensuring the approximation of the perfect reconstruction property as close as desired. Study of the system efficient implementation and its mathematical representation shows that the proposed system has superiority over the existing approaches for Bentpipe payloads from the flexibility, complexity, and perfect reconstruction points of view. The system is analyzed in both SISO and MIMO cases. For the MIMO case, two different scenarios for frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing are discussed.

To verify the results of the mathematical analysis, simulation results for SISO, two scenarios of MIMO, and effects of the finite word length on the system performance are illustrated. Simulation results show that the system can perform frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing and the stopband attenuation of the prototype filter controls the aliasing signals since the filter coefficients resolution plays the major role on the system performance. Hence, the system can approximate perfect reconstruction property by proper choice of resolution.

Abstract:
This paper examines five big band arrangements written during a period of two semesters from 1998-1999. I will provide an overview and performance considerations for each arrangement. Each arrangement uses common conventions such as unison lines, octave doubling, four and five part voicings, found in closed, semi-open, and open position. Approach techniques include diatonic, dominant, diminished, chromatic, and parallel. Choice was based primarily on two considerations: desired texture and the best voice leading options identified to provide each part with a swinging line and maintain melodic integrity. Other conventions applied include chord substitution, upper structure triads, and altered and diminished scales to provide harmonic contrast and color. Each arrangement supplied new challenges and the tunes selected provided the arranger with a diverse experience of styles. The inherent qualities of the melody and harmonic progression of each piece were the primary considerations for selection.

Abstract:
This thesis describes a wide-hand channel sounding experiment carried out at the X-hand frequency over a transhorizon, sea path. The design of a wide-band channel probe is described in detail based upon the following operational requirements. "To capture as many sequential estimates of the transfer function of a telecommunication channel as possible, over the widest possible band-width and in the shortest time, subject to the constraint of low signal-to-noise ratio". The design described includes generation of a specialised, band limited, spectrally clean, synthesized test signal for bandwidth optimisation and the use of real-time, periodic averaging for signal-to-noise ratio enhancement. An external frequency reference has been used in preference to a carrier locked approach. The theoretical justification and hardware implications of this design approach are carefully argued in the thesis. Such a probe has been built, its dynamic performance assessed and compared with more conventional transfer function analyser designs. In particular the frequency stability of the unlocked system configuration and the problem of signal distortion due to excessi ve phase noise are explored in detail. The concept of time domain multi-ray modelling of a telecommunication channel has stimulated the application of high resolution spectral analysis techniques for ray parameter determination. A brief literature survey of various algorithms is presented and a comparison with the conventional Fourier approach is given. Detailed derivation of the Singular Value Decomposition - Prony (SVD-P) algorithm is presented together with an in-depth performance assessment over a wide-variety of simulated channel conditions. The measurement equipment was completed, tested in the laboratory and finally commissioned in May 1993. A long-term data capture campaign was started using an existing cross channel link; a large database of results has subsequently been obtained. Preliminary data analysis has been carried out and the thesis describes the phenomenological characteristics of the channel whilst subjected to a wide range of multipath propagation mechanisms. The final chapter of the thesis highlights the novel achievements of the research, together with a summary of the strengths and limitations of the experimental equipment and processing algorithms.
