Full textCorporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an interesting topic in the current academic literature and business management; companies are increasingly including these aspects in their daily activity. Specifically, the financial sector, although it is the least studied in the literature, It’s one of the most investments in CSR globally applying different policies of social and environmental responsibility in their business. Through in-depth analysis of the case of Banco Santander and using a qualitative analysis with Atlas.ti (analysis tool) this paper first identifies how CSR is integrated into the management of the banking business of Santander in order to cover the needs of different stakeholders identified and maintained in a position of financial efficiency and international leadership. Having analysed the way to consider social responsibility in the banking business this research also aims to analyse the direction of the relationship between CSR and efficiency. The relationship between social profitability and financial profitability in the international banking sector has already been analysed in previous literature, but in this study an indicator of CSR will be used and will be linked by quantile regressions, interquantile and xtlogit, with indicator efficiency previously obtained with the technique of DEA, concluding in this case the existence of a bidirectional relationship. Finally, the study of Corporate Social Responsibility actions by banks allows advance knowledge of investments in social matters performing financial institutions. Measure the relationship between CSR with the image valuation and customer satisfaction of financial institutions is the last main objective of this study. The relationship between these three constructs are complemented by the multi-group analysis using three moderating variables: the type of client, familiarity with the organization and loyalty to the organization. Based on data obtained from a sample of users of financial institutions a model of structural equations using the technique Partial Least Squares (PLS) it is proposed. Among the main results obtained it can be concluded that according to the empirical evidence of this research CSR initiatives currently developing financial institutions will not produce them increased customer satisfaction and image of its entities in the short term.

Full textMotivated by the problem of how to optimally execute a large stock position, this thesis considers a stochastic control problem with two special properties. First, the control problem has an exponential delay in the control variable, and so the present value of the state process depends on the moving average of past control decisions. Second, the coefficients are assumed to be linear in the control variable. It is shown that a control problem with these properties generates a mathematically challenging problem. Specifically, it becomes a stochastic control problem whose solution (if one exists) has a bang-bang nature. The resulting discontinuity of the optimal solution creates difficulties in proving the existence of an optimal solution and in solving the problem with numerical methods. A sequence of stochastic control problems with state processes is constructed, whose diffusion matrices are invertible and approximate the original degenerate diffusion matrix. The cost functionals of the sequence of control problems are convex approximations of the original linear cost functional. To prove the convergence of the solutions, the control problems are written in the form of forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs). It is then shown that the solutions of the FBSDEs corresponding to the constructed sequence of control problems converge in law, at least along a subsequence. By assuming convexity of the coefficients, it is then possible to construct from this limit an admissible control process which, for an appropriate reference stochastic system, is optimal for our original stochastic control problem. In addition to proving the existence of an optimal (bang-bang) solution, we obtain a smooth approximation of the discontinuous optimal bang-bang solution, which can be used for the numerical solution of the problem. These results are then applied to the optimal execution problem in form of numerical simulations.

Full textThe next generation satellite communication networks will provide multimedia services supporting high bit rate, mobility, ATM, and TCP/IP. In these cases, the satellite technology will act as the internetwork infrastructure of future global systems and assuming a global wireless system, no distinctions will exist between terrestrial and satellite communications systems, as well as between fixed and 3G mobile networks. In order for satellites to be successful, they must handle bursty traffic from users and provide services compatible with existing ISDN infrastructure, narrowcasting/multicasting services not offered by terrestrial ISDN, TCP/IP-compatible services for data applications, and point-to-point or point-to-multipoint on-demand compressed video services. This calls for onboard processing payloads capable of frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing and interference suppression.
This thesis introduces a new class of oversampled complex modulated filter banks capable of providing frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing. Under certain system constraints, the system can handle all possible shifts of different user signals and provide variable bandwidths to users. Furthermore, the aliasing signals are attenuated by the stopband attenuation of the channel filter thus ensuring the approximation of the perfect reconstruction property as close as desired. Study of the system efficient implementation and its mathematical representation shows that the proposed system has superiority over the existing approaches for Bentpipe payloads from the flexibility, complexity, and perfect reconstruction points of view. The system is analyzed in both SISO and MIMO cases. For the MIMO case, two different scenarios for frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing are discussed.
To verify the results of the mathematical analysis, simulation results for SISO, two scenarios of MIMO, and effects of the finite word length on the system performance are illustrated. Simulation results show that the system can perform frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing and the stopband attenuation of the prototype filter controls the aliasing signals since the filter coefficients resolution plays the major role on the system performance. Hence, the system can approximate perfect reconstruction property by proper choice of resolution.

Quantum bang-bang control is a method of suppressing decoherence in qubits [VKL99, VL98]. To date, mathematically rigorous treatments of quantum bang-bang control offered little intuition. To complement existing approaches and to seek better understanding, I present intuitive pictures to think about quantum bang-bang control. In addition, I develop a formalism for treating phase noise moments of a qubit under quantum bang-bang control. Although the desired purpose of quantum bang-bang control is to remove noise, it is conceivable that it can be used to infer information about the noise process and coupling on a qubit. By using a simple random rotation model of single qubit dephasing, I demonstrate how quantum bang-bang control can distinguish between dephasing under different stochastic processes. I also show how quantum bang-bang control can determine noise coupling in a toy model where noise couples to the qubit via a fixed noise axis. These two demonstrations indicate the potential of quantum bang-bang control as a tool for qubit noise spectroscopy.

In this thesis we consider a minimal time control problem for single-input control-affine systems in finite dimension with fixed initial and final conditions, where the scalar control take values on a closed interval. When applying a shooting method for solving this problem, one may encounter numerical obstacles due to the fact that the shooting function is non smooth whenever the control is bang-bang. For these systems a theoretical concept of conjugate time has been defined in the bang-bang case, however direct algorithms of computation are difficult to apply. Besides, theoretical and practical issues for conjugate time theory are well known in the smooth case, and efficient implementation tools are available. We propose a regularization procedure for which the solutions of the minimal time problem depend on a small enough real positive parameter and are defined by smooth functions with respect to the time variable, facilitating the application of a single shooting method. Under appropriate assumptions, we prove a strong convergence result of the solutions of the regularized problem towards the solution of the initial problem, when the real parameter tends to zero. The conjugate times computation of the locally optimal trajectories for the regularized problem falls into the standard theory. We prove, under appropriate assumptions, the convergence of the first conjugate time of the regularized problem towards the first conjugate time of the initial bang-bang control problem, when the real parameter tends to zero. As a byproduct, we obtain an efficient algorithmic way to compute conjugate times in the bang-bang case.

A outra realiza a quantização vetorial direta, enquanto a complexidade é reduzida significativamente.
In this thesis sub-band coding of images using inter-band vector quantization is examined at rates below 1 bit/pixel. The image spectrum is decomposed into 16 uniform bands using 2-D separable quadrature mirror filters. These 16 bands are used to create 16-dimension vectores, which are coded using vector quantization (VQ). In order to reduce the computational complexity and the storage requirements, two vector quantization structures are considered. One approach is to split the vectors not only to reduce complexity but also to exploit spectral properties of the data image. In the order approach the vector quantization is done in multiple stages. Simulation results are presented at rates of 0,50 bit/pixel, 0,63 bit/pixel and 0,75 bit/pixel. A comparative analysis shows that the performance of the two systems is comparable to the basic coding structure, while the complexity is significantly reduced. Simulation results also show that split VQ with adaptive bit allocation and multi-stage VQ with tree search are not recommended at these rates. The best trade-off between complexity and performance is achieved with the inter-band multi-stage VQ scheme using the sequential search procedure. At last, the use of inter- band VQ is examined when the dominant sub-band is separately coded using intra-band VQ. When the image spectrum is decomposed into 16 bands, this scheme has a performance comparable to the basic coding structure while the complexity and storage reduction is equivalent to the inter-band multi-stage VQ technique.

This work studies the effect of mechanically applied uniaxial strain on reverse-bias band-to-band tunneling current in n+/p+ vertical silicon diodes fabricated on {100} and {110} substrate orientations. The Band Structure Lab and nextnano are used to analyze the change in band structure with uniaxial stress applied perpendicular to the tunneling direction along <100> and <110> crystal directions. A theoretical analysis based on the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation for tunneling probability combined with an uncoupled full-band Poisson equation solver and the calculated band structure changes is developed to model the experimental results. Reasonable agreement between experimental data and theoretical calculations is found when comparing the relative change in tunneling current at 1 V reverse-bias versus strain for different substrate orientation/strain configurations.

Full textThe purpose of the essay is to investigate how fan activist practitioners online can create community among fans and contribute to social change for LGBTQ people. By using qualitative content analysis, I examine eight articles that analyze fans' involvement, community and practices, the relationship between producer and fans, as well as the concept of bury your gays. When I position myself in the field of fan studies, I consider the audience as an active and creative participant. My analysis also reflect my theoretical perspectives, assuming the concepts of citizenship, identity and the audience's tactics versus the producers' strategies. The result of the study shows that fans could collectively create a long-lasting and effective movement to highlight LGBTQ issues. When convergence and fan culture developed together, fans could prolong producers' culture production and provide space for self-produced material that also strengthened their identities. The conclusion is that producers have power over the medium as they can define and construct norms, but it also means that the public has control over their own form and interpretation of the content.

Full textThis study proposes a reconstruction of the quaternary sedimentary history of two Bahamian slopes (leeward and windward). This work is based on the stratigraphicand sedimentary analysis of 34 marine cores recovered mainly from the CARAMBAR oceanographic cruse (2010). A high-resolution stratigraphic study was conducted by coupling several tools including ecostratigraphy based on planktonic foraminifera assemblages, which allowed dating all sedimentary sequences despite early diagenesis processes. The sedimentary analysis of the marine cores proposes a new classification for carbonate sediment. It characterizes the dominant particle distributions at the time of deposition and allows for discriminating the fine sediments and for determining the depositional processes such as off-bank transport, contouritic or gravity deposits, and slightly altered sediment. Off-bank transport is the mainprocess responsible for high-accumulation of platform carbonate ooze (aragonite needles and silt) on the Bahamian slopes. It predominates during major flooding of the platform, so during the last 4 ka cal BP, the MIS 5e and at the on set of the MIS11. Intra-slope erosion, bottom currents, and early marine diagenesis processes have also been highlighted. The leeward slope is characterized by a high accumulation of wackestone sediment where as the windward slope preserved its Pliocene morphology with local quaternary sediment accumulation (wackestone to packstone)

When using filter bank to analyze signal, multiplication dominate most of computation complexity, it has an impact on dynamic power. In this thesis, instead of using linear convolution in time domain to analyze signal, we use circular convolution in frequency domain to implement filter bank. In this way, the computation complexity would be considerably reduced. However, it would not have obviously decreasing of the number of multiplication, if we using traditional fast fourier transform.。In this application, due to the input signal is real, we exploit real fast fourier transform(RFFT) to replace traditional fast fourier transform. We implement a 10.7-ms, 18-band, 1/3-octave quasi-ANSI filter bank in frequency domain. Comparing that with previous state-of-the-art design, the propose frequency domain quasi-ANSI filter bank saves approximately 54% computation complexity. Next, due to this system is in frequency domain, we could exactly know the region which are inside stopband of the filter. By only calculate the region which are inside stopband, we reduce more computation complexity successfully. For each output sample, it saves approximately 70% computation complexity。The proposed quasi-ANSI filter bank has been implemented in TSMC 90 nm CMOS high-VT technology and with gated-clock. The test chip can be operated at 13 MHz to real-time process 24 KHz audio and it consumes approximately 14 μW (@0.9V) dynamic power. Comparing with previous state-of-the-art design, this work saves approximately 77% of dynamic power.

Today, commutation product is popular in our world. All kinds of commutation product are used by us in our life, for example, Cell Phone、Notebook (NB)、Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and so on. Antenna is a very important component for commutation system because it is essential in commutation system. Multi-band is a tendency towards antenna. We hope this antenna can be used in notebook (NB). In this thesis, CPW-fed structure, combine T-shaped monopole Antenna and L-shaped monopole antenna we used to design multi-band Microstrip Antenna. The designed antenna can be used for GPS(1575MHz) 、WLAN (.11b)(2412~2484MHz)、WLAN (.11a)(5150~5350MHz)、WiMax(3.40Ghz~3.60Ghz). The return loss is less than -10dB, VSWR is less than 2, and the antenna size is small also.

This study investigates the relationships between bank capital and bank lending, and how these relationships vary with the degree of information asymmetry. Applying to a panel of 3,544 banks in 49 countries of the period 1996~2003. Our results shows that: 1. The response of bank lending tends to be stronger for banks with less capital ratios when facing adverse capital shocks. 2. Using the bank capital ratio as a measure of the country’s degree of information asymmetry, the effect of capital loss on bank lending tends to be greater for banks with less capital ratio. 3. Similarly, when using bank assets size ratio as a measure of the country’s degree of information asymmetry, the effect of capital loss on bank lending tends to be greater for small banks.

Optical amplifier is a key component for optical communication systems. Optical amplifiers amplify optical signals without any complex optical-electronic or electronic-optical transform and it has many benefits. Such as high gain, high output power, low noise, broadband, independent of the form of signal and the modulation frequency. In the past few years, according to the dramatic increase in information and the rapid developments of multimedia and network communication, the demand for transmission bandwidth grows with each passing day. The transmission band has extended from C-band (1530nm-1565nm) to L-band (1570nm-1610nm). So the amplifier has also extended the amplified band from conventional C-band to L-band. In this paper, the main topic is the design of gain enhancement and gain flatness for L-band EDFA. In which, we study the gain enhancement by 980nm-band pumping and C-band laser injection. For the gain flatness, we use two methods. First, we use a second pumping source, 980nm with 24mW, and 20m EDF. Then we obtain a high gain over 33dB and 1.87dB gain flatness. Second, we just add another 16m EDF without any pumping source after the first stage. Then we obtain a high gain over 31dB and 1.76dB gain flatness. The main feature of this paper is that we combine 980nm band pumping and C-band laser injection. Besides, we do not need too long erbium-doped fiber, too many pumping sources and do not need gain flatten filter to obtain the results of high gain (over 30dB) and a flatness gain spectrum (less than 2dB).

Internet banking indicates that banks can provide effective service through information technology, primarily using the internet to facilitate their services and overcome the barrieies caused by locations and working hours of the bank. Therefore, customers can complete the transactions instantly. In order to satisfy the needs from customers and to improve the quality of service, there is a tendency towards the cooperation between the information technology and banking services. One of the strategy popularly used in internet bank is to reduce the dependence on manpower, so that the saved efforts can be either used on clients with higher potentiality of expenditure or to used to create a win-win situation that both banks and clients can reduce the amount of costs and time. An questionnaire was used to evaluate the effect of our case study -TCB bank, Participants' career are work in bank, to probe into the relation between the customers used the E-BANK and bank’s employees a workload. Result shows that subjects believe in using the e-bank is worse to reduce the workload in apply for a loan, open new account, to register loss a passbook and ATM card application. On the other businesses is more benefit to reduce workload of bank’s employees. Moreover, we recommend that designer improving the e-bank serving interface and its procedure to simply and user-friendly in the future: The different background bank’s employees have quite different point of view in customer using e-bank to inquire about products information, transfer accounts and open new account. Hence, Banker should provide suitable marketing strategy and education training for customers. Those ways might increase customer’s acceptability and reliability, for the purpose of to reduce workload of bank’s employees.

With different requirements on the band allocations, this thesis proposes two methods for the design of quad-band bandpass filters. Thus the designed filters are fabricated on the printed circuited boards and verified by experiments. The first part focuses on the design for closely spaced pass-bands. Through a general idea of frequency transformation, the poles and zeros of a single band response are transformed into poles and zeros of a multiband response according to the cutoff frequency of each band. Then, theoretical analysis is made to predict the nth order response and discuss the distribution of the numbers of poles and zeros. Finally, to reduce the number of resonators, a method for extracting the resonant frequency points between multi-mode and single mode resonators is proposed. If the module about resonant frequency points is constructed, the band-pass response of multi-band could be directly realized by designing the fundamental single-band Chebyshev response and achieving the fast and low-cost circuit design. The second part deals with the case of arbitrarily spaced pass-bands. The design concept is to connect four pass-bands together to form quad-band response by exploiting the frequency orthogonality. Then, to avoid loading effect by tapped line, parallel coupled lines are served as the I/O coupling structure to meet external quality factors for quad-band requirements. Moreover, multi-mode resonators are introduced to replace with many single-mode resonators and utilize the concepts of coupling matrix to explain the location of mode-frequency. By this way, the number of resonators and circuit area can be reduced. Finally, we make improvement for stopband. The four circuits are fabricated in this thesis, and the simulated results show a good agreement with the measured results. About the first part, the open-loop and net-type resonators are applied. These two quadband filters are designed and fabricated with the areas 1.18λg × 0.144λg ,0.533λg × 0.27λg , the center frequencies at 1.86、1.95、2.04、2.14GHz, 1.82、1.94、2.06、2.18GHz, the fractional bandwidth 1.5%、1.33%、1.33%、1.5%, 2.2%、1.85%、1.75%、1.84%, and the insertion loss 2.2、2.3、1.8、1.3dB, 1.2、1.7、2、1.2dB, respectively. The second part is the combination of coupled lines and net-type resonators. The occupied area is 0.788λg × 0.066λg , the center frequencies at 0.8、1.0、1.4、1.8GHz, the fractional bandwidth about 12.1%、8.3%、5.5%、3.8%, and the insertion loss 1.6、2、2.5、2.7dB.
