Abstract:
Syzygium cumini (Skeels.), commonly known as Jamun, Java plum, or black plum, is a bioactive-rich fruit recognized for its high concentrations of antioxidants, vitamins, and phytochemicals, including hydrolysable tannins, flavonoids, anthocyanins, gallic acid, and quercetin. Despite its nutritional and pharmacological significance, the fruit exhibits a notably short post-harvest shelf life of approximately 3–4 days under ambient conditions. This rapid perishability hinders effective storage, transportation, and commercialization, often resulting in considerable post-harvest losses. This study

Some species of the genus Tillandsia (Bromeliaceae) are highly endangered in their natural habitats. This report introduces a method for induced lateral shoot development in atmospheric Tillandsias using the cytokinin BAP. Spraying or dipping the plants with BAP-solutions induced many lateral shoots. Even difficult-to-propagate species like T. cacticola L.B.SM developed up to 30 times more usable shoots than the control. Applying low concentrations (1 and 5 mg·L-1) over a longer period of time (10 weeks, 3 times a week) produced results similar to those using higher concentrations (50 mg·L-1)

The commercial exploitation of modern, in vitro plant micropropagation methods, featuring synthetic cytokinins as essential components of the cultivation media, is rapidly increasing. Thus, development of rapid, inexpensive and less labour-intensive methods for monitoring cytokinin levels could help to optimise media consumption and reduce costs. Therefore, we studied the electrochemical behaviour of the highly active and widely used cytokinin, 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), in aqueous solutions by DC polarography, cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry and constant potential coulometry. Under ambient conditions, maintaining the shelf life of pointed gourd (Trichosanthes dioica Roxb.) beyond 2-3 days after harvest becomes a challenge. In this study, we explores the impact of combining 6-benzyl amino purine (BAP) treatment with alginate coating on extending the shelf life and preserving the quality of pointed gourd. Pointed gourd were treated with 2 mM and 3 mM 6-benzylaminopurine solutions, alone or with a 2% sodium alginate coating, whereas control were treated with distilled water. Plant formation from somatic embryos in response to BAP, NAA, and sucrose was studied in sweetpotato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.]. A maximum of 15% embryos at the torpedo stage of development formed plants of agar-solidified basal medium containing 3% sucrose and no growth regulators. The percentage of embryos forming shoots was increased to 53% by 4 μm BAP, but BAP reduced whole plant formation and promoted callusing at the root axis end of embryos. The frequency of plant development was increased to 38% by adding 0.1 μm NAA to the basal medium. Reducing sucrose concentration to 1.6% in basal
