Abstract:
AbstractIn this note we present the first records of the tayra (Eira barbara Linneanus 1758) documented in two different places within the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. The first ocurred in 2013 in the southern part of the state, in the Sierra Otomi-Tepehua region within the Zicatlán town in the municipality of Huehuetla, when an individual was captured in a fragmented evergreen tropical forest. The second record was registred in 2014 through the identification of individuals in five photographs taken in the north of Hidalgo, in the Sierra Gorda cloud forest within the town of San Cristobal in the municipality of La Misión. New records confirm the presence of the tayra in Hidalgo and is evident that some areas of the state have suitable conditions for this species. The records ocurred north and south of the state, for this region gathers appropiate characteristics as a biological corridor for the species. We consider that due to their charateristics these areas are favorable as landscape to connect the northern and southern population of the species in central Mexico. Results suggest that it is necessary to increase the knowledge of this species distribution, in order to identify appropriate strategies for their conservation in Mexico. Keywords: Conservation, Hidalgo, Sierra Otomí-Tepehua, Sierra Gorda hidalguense, Eira barbara.

Abstract:
AbstractThe tayra (Eira barbara) and ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) are species that are cataloged in danger of extinction. In this work we present new records of both species in the central coastal region of Yucatan state, Mexico. Our observations are based on records using camera traps, placed in fragments of secondary vegetation in tropical dry forest (TDF) with some degree of disturbance. We obtained two records of tayra, one of them shows two individuals, in addition to six photographs of ocelot. Abstract:
AbstractWe assess the genetic history and population structure of Cicada barbara in Morocco and the Iberian Peninsula, based on analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. The divergence between Morocco and the Iberian Peninsula populations was strongly corroborated by the molecular data, suggesting genetically isolated populations with a low level of gene flow. The Ceuta population from Spanish North Africa was more similar to the Iberian populations than the surrounding Moroccan populations, suggesting that the Strait of Gibraltar has not been acting as a strict barrier to dispersal while the Rif Mountains have. The Iberian Peninsula specimens showed a signature of demographic expansion before that which occurred in Morocco, but some of the assumptions related to the demographic parameters should be considered with caution due to the small genetic variation found. The high haplotype diversity found in Morocco implies higher demographic stability than in the Iberian Peninsula populations. These results do not, however, suggest a Moroccan origin for Iberian cicadas; but the most northwest region in Africa, such as Ceuta, might have acted as a southern refuge for Iberian cicadas during the most severe climatic conditions, from where they could expand north when climate improved. The separation of two subspecies within C. barbara (C. barbara lusitanica and C. barbara barbara) finds support with these results.

Palabras clave: Conservación, inventarios, selva mediana subcaducifolia, uso de mamíferos, Yucatán.ABSTRACTThe wildlife knowledge present in a given site is important to implement strategies for the conservation of biological diversity. Abstract:
This research paper deals with George Bernard Shaw's treatment of wars and their warmongers whose intention is to urge or attempt as much as they can to stir up war which largely culminates in death, destruction and all kinds of evil not to mention social diseases such as poverty, ignorance, starvation, prostitution and the like. In Arms and the Man and Major Barbara, Shaw expresses by his own ideas his real feelings of hatred and hostility when he pours his poignant criticism against capitalists and war makers, including weapon dealers, who encourage people to start or join a war to achieve their personal interests. The purpose of Shaw in writing his aforementioned plays is to show people the real ugly face of the wicked forces whose capitalistic and insatiable greed are so profound that they only aspire to personal power so that people can amend their wrong ideas of war fascination. Shaw's ideas represent a revolution against those warmongers who cannot silence him so that no peoples worldwide are denied their right to peace and a life free from fear.

Abstract:
Ecopoetics forms a human expression of the naturecultures that sustain us, enfolding us within an earth that is much more than a mere environment. In consequence, the ecopoet serves as a mediator between the multitudinous voices and lifeforms that take part in the song of the world. Weaving its way into the matter and texts of the world, human language—I argue in the wake of new materialism—provides the measure of and seeks inspiration in the apparent randomness and underlying design motivating the evolution of complex systems in the universe. I interweave approaches originating in Anglophone ecocriticism and ecophilosophy with ecopoetics—as Jonathan Bate and Scott Knickerbocker have defined it—with its close attention paid to the complex, interlaced fabric of the text. Barbara Kingsolver’s ecopoet(h)ics draws from chaos theory, inviting readers to shift interpretative paradigms, moving away from linear, binary grids of logic and reading, toward integrating complex, overlapping systems of meaning. Focusing on Kingsolver’s novel Prodigal Summer (2000), this paper argues that, as Snyder once put it, art is not so much “an imposition of order on chaotic nature, freedom, and chaos;” rather it is “a matter of discovering the grain of things, of uncovering the measured chaos that structures the natural world,” of revealing “the way [wild] phenomena actualize themselves,” including within a wild ecopoetic language.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to consider the originality of the art world of the contemporary Austrian writer Barbara Frischmuth who created in the novel Mistress of the Animals a unique "animalistic context". Frischmuth explores human nature through the images of the animal world, in connection with which the author of the article adheres to the term "human-animal studies". "Human-animal studies" in the works of the writer have a mythological nature, with the help of which Frischmuth illustrates the modern world. The relevance of the study is dictated by the inadequate exploration in homeland literary studies of the Austrian writer B. Frischmuth. Hence, considering the work of the Austrian writer in this context, this research is an attempt to pastose the generalised characteristic of "animalier art". The undertaken study considers the understudied topical problems of modernity, given the literary experience of Barbara Frischmuth. In the animal work Frishmuths"anthropological" and "zoological" are transformed in a specific synthesis; this duality characterises animal characters in her works, and would become a hallmark of her work.

Abstract:
This poem, here offered in a bilingual version, was written on the occasion of a walk in the Adelasia beech forest in the Beigua Natural Park (Liguria, Italy), and it is part of a poetry collection titled Ecopoems (http://ecopoems. altervista.org). The English translator is Kiawna Brewster, who has worked under the supervision of Barbara Carle (Professor of English at Columbia University). Following the guidelines of the Manifesto of Italian Ecopoetry, the language used here is as simple and humble as the subjects speaking through these poems (animals, plants and the whole Earth). I intend this as a poetic communication which could be intelligible to all cultures, and therefore easy to translate and to widely spread, as wished by the UNESCO message of the World Poetry Day.

Abstract:
Abstract A diversity of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (Johnson, Schmid, Hyde, Steigerwalt & Brenner) (Spirochaetales: Spirochaetaceae) genomospecies, including the Lyme disease agent, Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (s.s.), have been identified in the western United States. However, enzootic transmission of B. burgdorferi s.l. in small mammals and ticks is poorly characterized throughout much of the region. Here we report prevalence of B. burgdorferi s.l. in small mammal and tick communities in the understudied region of southern California. We found B. burgdorferi s.l. in 1.5% of Ixodes species ticks and 3.6% of small mammals. Infection was uncommon (~0.3%) in Ixodes pacificus Cooley and Kohls (Acari: Ixodidae), the primary vector of the Lyme disease agent to humans in western North America, but a diversity of spirochetes—including Borrelia bissettiae, Borrelia californiensis, Borrelia americana, and B. burgdorferi s.s.—were identified circulating in Ixodes species ticks and their small mammal hosts. Infection with B. burgdorferi s.l. is more common in coastal habitats, where a greater diversity of Ixodes species ticks are found feeding on small mammal hosts (four species when compared with only I. pacificus in other sampled habitats). This provides some preliminary evidence that in southern California, wetter coastal areas might be more favorable for enzootic transmission than hotter and drier climates. Infection patterns confirm that human transmission risk of B. burgdorferi s.s. is low in this region. However, given evidence for local maintenance of B. burgdorferi s.l., more studies of enzootic transmission may be warranted, particularly in understudied regions where the tick vector of B. burgdorferi s.s. occurs.

Abstract:
AbstractThe usage and knowledge of the mammals at Ejido San Dionisio, Peto, Yucatan, Mexico were documented from July to November 2016. Social research techniques were used, include questionnaires, interviews, and participatory diagnostic workshops, in addition to the collection of ceremonial uses, in stories and legends. Fieldwork was carried out applying direct (capture, sightings) and indirect methods (tracks). In total, 27 species of mammals from 19 families and eight orders were registered. Eight species were verified only through participatory techniques. The use of wild mammals in rites and ceremonies was observed, but the most important use was the consumption of meat from species such as white-tailed deer and collared peccary. On the other hand, from the perspective of the inhabitants over time, the decrease in the natural populations of wild mammals is observed. The presence of species such as Tamandua mexicana, Mimon cozumelae, Coendou mexicanus, Leopardus wiedii and Eira barbara with specific habitat and food requirements, probably reflect the favorable conditions of the jungle that still occurs in the ejido. Illegal hunting, droughts, population growth, fires, and deforestation are factors that threaten the local mammal fauna. As a wildlife conservation strategy, the implementation of Wildlife Conservation Management Units (WCMU'S) and Voluntarily Designated Areas for Conservation (VDAC) is proposed.Key words: community conservation strategy, community land planning, medium sub-deciduous forest, use of wild fauna.

Abstract:
Abstract Two species, Antiphyllum sp. nov. 1 and Zaphrufimia sp. nov. 1, the first corals found in Štur horizon of the upper Malinowickie Beds, Upper Pendleian (E 1 ), are here described. Additional study of the subspecies of Zaprufimia disjuncta show them to be more similar than previously thought. Although they occur mainly in the Enna and Barbara horizons, one specimen of Z. d. serotina comes from the Gabriela horizon. Biozone Zaphrufimia disujncta disjuncta/Z .d .praematura is proposed for the Enna and Barbara horizons. The subzone of Zaphrufimia/ Triadufimia of that Biozone, defined by the presence of Triadufimia gen. nov., is restricted to the Enna horizon. As confirmed by the occurrence of Cravenoceratoides edalensis, the new subzone roughly corresponds to the E2b1 ammonite Zone. An Antiphyllum/Ostravaia/Variaxon assemblage Zone is proposed for the coral assemblage of the Gaebler horizon. Cravenoceratoides nitidus present in the Roemer band (I b ) shows it to correlate with the E2b2 ammonite Zone. Comparison with other European regions suggests possible faunal exchange between those areas and the Upper Silesian Coal Basin in Serpukhovian time.
