Abstract:
In this article, I use empirical data regarding the prevalence of bareback sex and the HIV treatment PrEP to argue that the High Court and Court of Appeal of England and Wales in National AIDS Trust v NHS England, have reflected the reality of gay sex. I argue that this case represents a shift in legal approaches to preventative sexual health methods that recognises the reality of gay male sexuality regarding the allocation of funding responsibility for the pre-exposure prophylaxis. I argue that the treatment, which prevents transmission of HIV, is a significant feature of gay and bisexual men

Abstract:
Men who have sex with men (MSM) frequently use Internet-based Web sites to recruit sex partners. Although many MSM users of such sites advocate for safe sex practices in their personal profiles, some users actively recruit sexual partners who wish to participate in anal sexual intercourse without the use of condoms, also known as “bareback” sex. Participating in this sexual practice places both sexual partners at higher risk of HIV transmission. In addition, data indicate this behavior is associated with other high-risk activities such as drug use and communication of other sexually transmitte

Abstract:
This study describes the self-reported use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in the personal advertisements of men seeking sex with men in the United States on the online classified advertisement site, Craigslist. Overall self-reported PrEP use was low (0.20%; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.18–0.22). However, PrEP use in personal ads was described in conjunction with seeking sexual risk behaviours including ‘bareback’ sex (22.7%; 95% CI = 17.7–27.7%) and sex with substance use (26.8%; 95% CI = 21.5–32.1%). Abstract:
The current study examines the risk perceptions of HIV-negative men who have sex with men (MSM) who use the Internet to seek unprotected sex. The research questions include the following: How great do these men perceive their HIV risk to be? Are their perceptions based on HIV knowledge or related to their risk behaviors? What factors are associated with greater/lesser perceived risk? Results revealed that more than half of the men believed that they had no or only a slight chance of contracting HIV. Risk perceptions were not related to HIV knowledge or to involvement in HIV risk practices. Fou

Advances in medical science have made the virus a manageable chronic condition, while eliminating the risk of onward transmission for those with access to treatment, something referred to as TasP (treatment as prevention) or U=U (undetectable equals untransmissible). Abstract: Improving interpersonal communication skills has become an increasingly important aspect of HIV prevention strategies, based on the notion that this will contribute to more consistent condom use. The emergence of “barebacking” (intentionally unprotected casual sex among gay men) has foregrounded the limitations of such strategies. Efforts to encourage talk run counter to the ways in which silence is valued within bareback sex culture and serves to construct specifically masculine forms of pleasure and desire. A slash manip is a photo remix that montages visual signs from popular media with those from gay pornography, creating a new cultural artefact. Slash (see Russ) is a fannish practice that homoeroticises the bonds between male media characters and personalities—female pairings are categorised separately as ‘femslash’. Slash has been defined almost exclusively as a female practice. While fandom is indeed “women-centred” (Bury 2), such definitions have a tendency to exclude male contributions.
