Abstract:
Hel River is an important river of Kokrajhar district of Assam, India, which is a great source of freshwater fish. Considering the availability of indigenous fish species in Hel River and consumption of these species by the local people, the prime objective of this study was to study the fishes in the river. The relative abundance of fishes along with the species richness and species evenness were calculated based on fish samplings from August 2014 to July 2015. A total of 1313 individuals belonging to 25 species were recorded, dominated by family Cyprinidae with nine species. The highest rela

The space and time variations of the fish community structure in hill streams of Nepal are poorly understood. This research aims at studying the space and time variation of fish community structure in the Seti Gandaki River, Tanahu, Nepal. The field survey was conducted from July 2017 to June 2018 and the fishes were sampled from six sites using a medium size cast net of mesh size ranging from 3 mm to 6 mm mesh size, 25-33 feet length and 3.5-5 feet width, with the help of local fisher man. A total of 1,440 individuals were caught representing 46 species belonging to three order, nine families

With at least 3006 species, the family Cyprinidae is the most varied group of freshwater fishes in the entire globe. The development of a more thorough understanding of the evolution within any taxon can be assisted using osteological data. The current study is the first attempt to investigate the osteological relationships among members of the Subfamily- Labeoninae- tribe Garrini (Garra mullya), Subfamily Smiliogastrinae (Puntius mahecola, Puntius sahyadriensis, Rohtee ogilbii and Systomus sarana), Family Danionidae (Barilius barna, Barilius bendelisis and Salmophasia balookee), Family- Danio

The aim of the present study was to execute quantitative and qualitative assessments of developing blood cells in the head kidney of three habitat specialist fish species of River Murti Acanthocobitis botia, Devario aequipinnatus and Barilius barna. The variance in activity pattern and preference of specific habitat of these three fishes were correlated with their haematopoietic profile. Eleven types of hematopoietic precursors and mature cells in erythroid and lymphoid lineage were recognized in head kidneys of the three fish species. The erythroid lineage was found to be the most abundant as

Nepal has great water resources supporting diverged aquatic flora and fauna, including varieties of freshwater fishes. Lohandra river is one of the major perennial river of Morang district, eastern Nepal, originating from Mahabharat hill. Fishes of the river were collected from September, 2014 to August, 2015 using local gears and cast net with the help of local fishermen and the collected fishes were preserved in 70% alcohol facing their head downward for taxonomic identification.
