Barn deltar i økende grad i familievernkontorenes obligatoriske foreldremekling ved samlivsbrudd.Det er i dag en fagpolitisk målsetting i Norge at dette skal bli regelen snarere enn unntaket. På dennemåten skal barns rett til å bli hørt innfris. I denne artikkelen undersøkes mekleres erfaringer frameklingsprosesser der barn har deltatt. Spørsmålet som stilles er: Hva gjør barns deltakelse medmeklingen? Oppmerksomheten er rettet mot betydningen av barns deltakelse for meklingsprosessen,aktørenes roller og meklingens tema. Artikkelen bygger på kvalitative intervju med meklere mederfaring fra bruk av Barn i mekling-modellen (BIM). Intervjuene er analysert ved hjelp av kvalitativinnholdsanalyse. Resultatene viser at meklerne tillegger barns deltakelse stor betydning for ulikesider ved foreldremeklingen, så som meklernes faglige tilnærming, tematikk i meklingen og fokuspå foreldreskap.

Abstract:
Abstract In recent years, for economical purposes and to improve well-being conditions of cows, several dairy producers have adopted litter made from recycled manure solids (RMS). However, its use raises several safety issues, particularly with respect to mastitis and other infections. We previously observed cases of mastitis caused by K. pneumoniae and K. variicola, and two deadly infections from C. perfringens from cows on RMS. A herd of Holstein cows, distributed in two barns of about 40 lactating cows, was used. RMS was used in one barn, and wood-chip litter (WCL), in the other. RMS was generated by roller presses separation followed by conditioning at 55°C for 24h. Clean and soiled (used) RMS and WCL samples were collected for 15 months. Similarly, material samples before conditioning were also collected, and all samples were analyzed by viability-qPCR. Milk samples from cows with mastitis and somatic cell count data (SCC) were analyzed. Total and living contents of K. pneumoniae, K. variicola, C. perfringens and Klebsiella spp. were higher in the RMS than the WCL (+1.6–4.2 log10, P < 0.05). Composting 24h at 55°C did not affect total and live levels of C. perfringens, K. pneumoniae, and even increased total and live levels of K. variicola (+0.9 log10, P < 0.05). A seasonal effect or the number of cycles recycling the RMS decreased levels of K. pneumoniae in winter. Overall, RMS had no significant effect on SCC, but increased mastitis incidence (+39%, P < 0.05), compared to WCL. Milk analysis revealed that higher levels of K. pneumoniae found in RMS could contribute to the increase in mastitis cases caused by this pathogen. Data reported from this study are not favorable to the use of an RMS conditioned for 24h at 55°C with dairy cows, apropos the microbiological aspect; however, these results must be confirmed by other studies.

Abstract:
Artikkelen tematiserer et sirkusprosjekt som barnehagelærerstudenter gjennomførte ved en høgskole våren 2016, knyttet til kunnskapsområdet Barns utvikling, lek og læring (BULL). I løpet av en 3-ukers periode arbeidet studentene gruppevis og tverrfaglig med tema sirkus. Faglærere fra fysisk fostring, pedagogikk og drama deltok med praktisk og teoretisk undervisning og veiledning. Arbeidet fokuserte på studentenes læringsprosesser, og ledet frem mot en sirkusforestilling som ble presentert for barnehagebarn. Studentene gjennomførte også én dag med barnehagebarna på høgskolen hvor de la til rette for ulike sirkus-øvelser med dem. Det ble gjennomført en spørreundersøkelse og et gruppebasert refleksjonsnotat med studentene som deltok, som utgjør artikkelens empirigrunnlag. Med teoretisk støtte i Gadamer, Huizinga og Csikszentmihalyi, fokuserer teksten på hvordan studentene kroppsestetisk forholdt seg til, og gikk opp i, sirkusleken med sine medstudenter og barna. Studien viser at mange av studentene ble utfordret kroppslig og ble mer bevisste og trygge på seg selv i rollen som lekende kroppsaktører i møte med barna.

Abstract:
The impact of strong neutron absorption on data analysis and the comparison of two different absorption corrections for neutron diffraction data implemented in the GSAS Rietveld code are the foci of this work. We investigated the effect of absorption on the texture and the thermal motion parameter for rolled elemental foils. The orientation distribution functions (ODF) of rolled foils of dysprosium and erbium metals were determined from neutron time-of-flight data patterns collected on HIPPO at LANSCE. Both Dy and Er are strong absorbers for thermal neutrons with absorption cross-sections of 994 barns for Dy and 159 barns for Er at l = 1.8 Å. Various stacks of foils of each material, along with combinations of absorbing and less-absorbing foils, were measured. The patterns were analyzed using the GSAS options for Debye-Scherrer and linear absorption models, as well as without an absorption correction. Discrepancies between refined and expected “true” values of crystallographic parameters if absorption is not taken into consideration are discussed.

Abstract:
The rolling force model and energy calculation equation for 20CrMnTi steel are constructed based on practically measured data and theoretical math model. In the practical production, the heating temperature of 20CrMnTi steel is lowered from 1150°C to 1050°C, and in consequence, the total energy consumption is reduced by 5.81%. Moreover, the mill and motor abilities are still met and the rolled goods’ properties and surface quality are still guaranteed. Thus, energy saving is successfully realized.

Abstract:
We discuss the impact of strong absorption for thermal neutrons on data analysis and compare absorption corrections in the GSAS and MAUD Rietveld codes for texture and structural parameter refinement. Diffraction data were collected on the neutron powder diffractometer HIPPO at LANSCE from dysprosium and erbium, which are moderate-to-strong absorbers for thermal neutrons with absorption cross sections of 159 barns for Er and 994 barns for Dy at λ=1.8 Å. Both elements have hexagonal-close-packed (hcp) crystal structures, and the samples were various thicknesses of rolled foils. The orientation distribution functions (ODF) were fit to the same neutron time-of-flight data sets using two very different full pattern Rietveld analysis procedures. Spherical harmonics functions were fit to the textured data using GSAS. These data were also analyzed by the modified direct method E-WIMV using MAUD. The resulting pole figures from the ODFs determined by both Rietveld analysis packages are qualitatively similar, and the textures were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Additionally, data from orthorhombic dysprosium and erbium fluoride powders show that atomic positions are not sensitive to absorption. We address inconsistencies and methodologies in data analysis when strong absorption is present.

The Baros mangrove forest in Bantul Regency is now beginning to develop. Many government and private sectors programs are rolled out to support its development. The development of the Baros mangrove forest must be in accordance with the rules of conservation so that it will not damage the mangrove ecosystem. Mangrove forest has high economical and ecological value but is very vulnerable if lack of wisdom in maintaining, preserving and managing them. The involvement of government and other stakeholders are essential in determining management policies. Unawareness of society and the government to the importance of mangrove ecosystem can cause development of it becomes uncontrolled, consequently can destroy it. Mangrove forests are an important natural resource in coastal environments, and have three main functions: physical, biological, and economic functions. To quantify the functions of mangrove forests as the basis to determine the policy is required a research instrument called economic valuation. The approach of this study is the literature review from various studies before to perceive the influence of economic valuation in determining the management strategy of Baros mangrove forest in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

I artikeln analyseras en diskussion om vargen och dess existensberättigande som pågick i Österbottens Tidning under år 2018 i samband med att vargar rörde sig i trakten. Utgående från Paul Slovic analyseras hur tankegångar om risk byggs upp i materialet. Syftet för artikeln är att undersöka hur varg som risk produceras och hanteras i ett tidningsmaterial, med ett särskilt fokus på de roller som barnen tilldelas. Jag intresserar mig i synnerhet för tiden, och för vad som händer med den i dessa processer. En sammansmältning av Slovics tankar om risk och Heta Lähdesmäkis och Outi Ratamäkis analys av den farliga vargen som en diskursiv resurs i det kulturella minnet i Finland ger ett underlag för en analys av ett material som i sin helhet handlar om en konstruktion av risk för vargangrepp på barn. Jag föreslår termen ”maskhål” som ett alternativ till det som Lähdesmäki och Ratamäki kallar för tidshopp, för att visa på den cirkulära rörelsen i den nutida ständiga återkomsten till händelser som man själv inte upplevt – dödliga vargangrepp på barn i äldre tid. Maskhålet ger tillgång till vargangreppen oberoende av tid och plats, och jag ser de känslor som berättelserna genererar som den kraft som upprätthåller existensen av maskhålet. I processen synliggörs även vad jag kallar för barnets inneboende moraliska imperativ.

Abstract:
The surface of hot rolled ribbed steel bar after remained-heat-treatment process readily corrodes and rusts on store and transportation process due to falling off of the surface of its oxide layer in the steel production. By studying different cooling intensity having what effect on rebar structure, mechanical property and the thickness and component of surface oxide layer, this paper analyses the influence factor of strengthening mechanism and anti-corrosion on the surface oxide layer of hot rolled ribbed steel bars (HRB). The result indicates that there is a certain extent improvement on the bar’s yield strength and strength of extension after remained heat treatment, and that this change in large size bar is more distinct than which in small size’s. The most distinct strengthening effect happens in a temperature on cooling table about 720°C. Above 820°C —the temperature on cooling table, all metallographic structure consist of ferrite and pearlite (F+P); under 725°C, the sclerotic structure like bainite appears. With the temperature on cooling table arising, surface oxide layer thickens. In low temperature on cooling table, the sample integrates with matrix comparatively closely and has relatively better anti-corrode property.

Abstract:

Mitt syfte med detta arbete är att studera hur barn själva ser på fördelningen av roller och status i en grupp. Jag har samtalat med barn om vilka faktorer som har betydelse för att få en hög position i en grupp, samt hur de ser på sin egen roll och status och om barnen har en medvetenhet om roll- och statusfördelning. Jag har försökt att göra en sammanställning av barnens svar och jämföra dessa med litteratur som belyser ämnet. I litteraturen har jag försökt att även ta med aspekter som på skilda sätt belyser konsekvenserna av status och roller. Sammanfattningsvis kan sägas att min undersökning visar att barn som exempelvis är aktiva och bra på sport tilldelas en hög position i kamratgruppen. Barnen är till stor del nöjda med den roll och status de har tilldelats i gruppen., detta under förutsättning att gruppen som barnet ingår i fungerar bra. Slutligen visar min undersökning att barn har en viss medvetenhet om sig själva och sina kamraters olika roller i barngruppen.

Abstract:
Syftet med denna uppsats är att studera tre gode mäns och Överförmyndarförvaltningens roller i förhållande till ensamkommmande, asylsökande barns rättigheter och behov. Studien fokuserar även på relationen mellan dessa. Utifrån lagar och riktlinjer beskrivs deras relation till tre barnperspektiv. Studien är kvalitativ och baseras på intervjuer med representanter från Överförmyndarförvaltningen och tre av Malmö kommuns sju gode män. Intervjuerna analyseras utifrån dessa perspektiv och tre begrepp. Det kom att påvisas att de gode männen arbetar utifrån det vuxna och samhällets perspektiv. De menar vidare att barns bästa uppfylls genom att ta del av barnets eget perspektiv. Deras roll som god man innebär enligt dem själva att de ska verka i föräldrarnas ställe genom vägledning, trygghet och att lösa problem som kan uppstå. Överförmyndarförvaltningen arbetar utifrån samhällets perspektiv där barns bästa beskrivs enligt lag. Sammanfattningsvis har studien kommit att påvisa behovet av mer kunskap kring ensamkommande, asylsökande barn både bland de gode männen samt hos olika myndigheter.
The aim of the essay is to study three good men’s and the Chief Guardian’s roles in relation to the rights and the needs of asylum seeking children without custodians. A focus is also on the relation between them. On the basis of laws and guidelines their relation to three child perspectives is described. The qualitative study is based on interviews with representatives from the Chief Guardian and three of the seven good men in Malmö municipality. The interviews are analysed on the basis of the perspectives and three concepts. It is pointed out that the good men work on the basis of the adult perspective and the society’s perspective. They also mean that the best interests of the child can be met when considering the child’s perspective. Their role as good man means according to themselves that they shall work in a parent’s position through guiding, safety and to solve problem that can occur. The Chief Guardian works on the basis on the society’s perspective. That is the best interests of the child according to the law. To sum up, the study points out the need for more knowledge about asylum seeking children without custodians both among the good men and among different authorities.

Syftet med detta arbete är att studera det sociala samspelet i barngrupper. Eftersom det talas så mycket om social kompetens idag vill jag dels få det begreppet förklarat samt se hur det ser ut bland barn. Jag har tittat på hur barnen förhåller sig till varandra, om de visar hänsyn, lyssnar på varandra och visar varandra respekt. Arbetet innehåller en jämförelse mellan en klass som ofta jobbar i grupp och en klass som nästan aldrig jobbar i grupp. Jag ser på hur deras sätt att samarbeta skiljer sig åt. I alla grupper finns mer eller mindre tydliga roller och jag har även tittat på dessa och hur de fördelar sig i grupperna. Slutligen har jag även pratat med de olika lärarna och fått deras uppfattning av gruppers betydelse och hur de använder sig av grupper i sin klass. Det jag kommit fram till är att elever som jobbar ofta i grupp är bättre på att lyssna på varandra, visa hänsyn och föra givande diskussioner än elever som sällan jobbar i grupp, även de roller jag funnit i grupperna har skilt sig åt mellan de olika klasserna.

Abstrakt Titel: Barn till föräldrar med kognitiva funktionsnedsättningar – En kvalitativ studie om hur barn framställs i arbetsmaterial gällande stödinsatser Syfte: Syftet med studien är att analysera vårt insamlade datamaterial, och med begrepp från våra teorier, barndomssociologi, resiliensteori och anknytningsteori, titta på hur barn framställs i arbetsmaterial riktat till yrkesverksamma som arbetar med familjer där minst en av föräldrarna har en kognitiv funktionsnedsättning. Metod: Vi har använt oss av en kvalitativ innehållsanalys där vi har undersökt material kring tre insatser som riktar sig till yrkesverksamma som arbetar med stöd till familjer där minst en av föräldrarna har en kognitiv funktionsnedsättning. Analysmaterialet består av material kring FIBprojektet, föräldrar med intellektuella funktionsnedsättningar, med dess olika stödinsatser, samt material kring insatserna PAM (Parent assessment manual) och PYC (Parenting Young Children), som syftar till att stärka och bedöma föräldraförmågan hos föräldrarna i dessa familjer. Med begrepp hämtade från barndomssociologi, resiliensteorin samt anknytningsteorin, har vi skapat koder och genom en kodningsprocess har vi utläst teman i materialet knutna till de valda teorierna. Huvudresultat: I analysen av materialet har vi tittat på framställningar av barns ansvarstagande, utveckling och roll i familjen. Vi har också studerat föräldraskapet utifrån insatserna och barnens position. Gemensamt för samtliga insatser var att de hade ett tydligt familjefokus, där barnen ofta ses som en del av familjebegreppet och inte som egna individer. I materialet har vi bland annat utläst en tydlig dubbelhet angående barnens ansvar i dessa familjer samt diskuterat synen på barns utveckling. Vi har också sett att barn många gånger uttrycker en osäkerhet inför insatsernas syfte och sin egen delaktighet. Slutsatser: Vår huvudsakliga slutsats är att barnen uppmärksammas i begränsad utsträckning i materialet. Insatserna gav barnen lite, eller inget, utrymme alls, att själva agera utifrån sina individuella behov. Många gånger kom barnen och deras aktörskap och delaktighet i skymundan för föräldrarna och deras funktionsnedsättningar, då flera av insatserna syftade till att stärka föräldraförmågan.

AbstractGroup processes within the free play- in a socialpsychology perspective In our socialpsychology study we have demonstrated how children’s free play is by observing 2-5 years old children in preschool. We have also interviewed two preschool teachers. The major subject in this study is how children’s group processes expresses in their free play. The purposes with this social psychological study have been to get a major insight of how the group processes looks like from a gender and structure perspective.

We have with some help from psychology and social theories described the consequence and the importance in children’s free play. We have also described how hierarchy, interaction, alienation and roles are important and which meaning they have. The free play offers children free mind, independence and it even promotes development.

 

 

 

 


AbstraktI vår socialpsykologiska studie har vi förevisat vad som sker inom barns fria lek, vi har observerat barn i åldrarna 2-5 på en förskola inom Halmstad Kommun. Vi har även intervjuat två förskolelärare inom samma verksamhet. Genom vår studie har vi velat påvisa de olika grupprocesserna som utspelas hos barn inom den fria leken. Syftet med föreliggande studie är att få en inblick om hur de olika grupprocesserna ser ut inom barns fria lek bl.a. utifrån genus och ur ett strukturerat perspektiv.

Vi har med hjälp av psykologiska och sociologiska teorier beskrivit konsekvenserna och de viktiga beståndsdelarna inom barns fria lek. Vi har även tagit upp hur betydelsefull makthierarki, samspel, utanförskap samt rolltagande är inom den fria leken. Den fria leken erbjuder ett fritt tänkande för barnen, självständighet men framförallt erbjuder den en enorm utveckling och tillväxt hos barnet.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the view of educators on their participation in free play in preschool. Free play is a typical activity for preschool. Engdahl & Ärlemalm-Hagsér (2015) highlight Fröbel as creator of the concept of free play. According to Fröbel, free play is characterized by creativity, freedom, repetition, learning and development (p. 145). Lindgren, Pramling & Säljö (2017) also motivate free play as chosen and led by the children themselves (p.148). With the revised curriculum, play has generally changed and more space has been given. However, the concept of teaching has been added, which means that the free play is being overshadowed. The curriculum for preschool does not highlight the concept of free play, but play in general, where children must be given the conditions for play so that they themselves initiate and that someone in the work team introduces the play to them (p. 8). Play should have a central place in preschool education, where an approach for everyone who is a part of the work team is to encourage play and confirm the importance of play for children’s development, learning and wellbeing (p.8). Nilsson & Lecusay (2020) believe that play is human’s most distinctive feature (p. 78). and that adults should actively contribute to children’s plays (ibid p. 82). As teaching has taken over most of the activities, there is a fear that the play will be overshadowed and taken for granted. Free play may be seen as a normal behavior, which can lead to it being easily taken for granted (Pramling Samuelsson & Asplund Carlsson 2008, p. 629) and therefore must be encouraged and challenged by adults by participating in the play.

Our questions in the study are: How is gender constituted in the selection of free play? How do children constitute gender identities in the free play? The study was conducted with a qualitative study where we used the observation collection method. We have analyzed the empirical material on the basis of gender theory, according Ingegerd Tallberg Broman. Based on our observations, we have seen that there are gender-stereotyped activities. In most games occur traditional male / female behavior. Boys were active and girls were more sedentary. We saw a few times how children negotiated traditional gender norms
Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur barn leker i fri lek ur ett genusperspektiv. Vi kommer att undersöka hur barn gör kön i den fria leken. Våra frågeställningar i studien är: Hur skapas genus i val av fri lek? Hur iscensätter barn genusidentiteter i den fria leken?Studien är genomförd med en kvalitativ undersökning där vi använt observationer som insamlingsmetod. Vi har analyserat det empiriska materialet utifrån genusteori, enligt Ingegerd Tallberg Broman. Utifrån våra observationer har vi sett att det förekommer könsstereotypa aktiviteter.I de flesta lekar uppstår traditionella manligt/kvinnligt beteenden. Pojkar var aktiva och flickor var mer stillasittande. Vi såg vid några tillfällen hur barn förhandlade om de traditionella könsnormerna.

Abstract:
Syftet med vårt självständiga arbete är att söka kunskap om och beskriva hur förskollärares delaktighet tar sig i uttryck i barnens fria lek i utomhusmiljön. Vi har samlat in vår empiri genom observationer och med hjälp av ett observationsschema. Vi analyserade vårt insamlade material med hjälp av en tematisk analys där vi inspirerades av det abduktiva förhållningssättet (Alvehus, 2019). De teoretiska begreppen är vår utgångspunkt för arbetet där vi valt Enz och Christies (1993) lärarroller. I analysprocessen utgick vi från tre grundläggande arbetssätt, sortera, reducera och argumentera. Analysen visade fem olika roller som förskollärarna använder sig av när de deltar i barnens fria lek. Slutsatsen för vårt självständiga arbete har synliggjort att alla roller från vår teori har kommit till uttryck där några förskollärarna har tagit en roll och deltagit i barnens lek. Andra har befunnit sig utanför barnens fria lek, försett barnen med material, ställt frågor och samtalat med kollegor. Utifrån vår abduktiva ansats har vi kompletterat med en ny roll som handlar om undervisning i barnens fria lek.

Abstract:
Syftet med examensarbetet har varit att se sagans betydelse för ett barn i förskoleålderns språkliga utveckling. Syftet var även att undersöka hur pedagogers och föräldrars engagemang kan bidra.  Metoden som använts i examensarbetet är en kvalitativ undersökning på två förskolor med olika förutsättningar. Därefter har sedan jämförts likheter och skillnader mellan hur barnen tagit till sig av sagans ord och mening. Det har även gjorts enkätundersökningar där föräldrar och pedagoger har fått ge sin syn på hur de upplever att barn påverkas och utvecklas av sagor. Bland svaren har bl.a. pedagoger bidragit till examensarbetet med olika idéer på hur man kan locka barn till sagoläsning på ett pedagogiskt sätt. Det har genomgående under arbetets gång visat sig hur sagans betydelse, och flera olika roller, påverkar barnets språkliga utveckling men även hur sagan påverkar barnets självkänsla, trygghet, koncentration, nyfikenhet och fantasi. Det som lärts är vikten av att vara tydlig  likväl mot enspråkiga barn som flerspråkiga barn och att pedagogen är observant på att uppfatta barnets förståelse språkligt.

AbstractThe pandemic outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 has profoundly affected the global leisure and tourism industry, with international travel bans affecting over 90% of the world’s population. Widespread restrictions on community mobility have resulted in a projected decline of international tourism arrivals up to 30%. The rapid development of Virtual Reality (VR) and its effectiveness in the simulation of real-life experiences provides an opportunity for virtual holiday making especially when actual travel is not possible. Based on a quantitative study with 193 participants, the role of VR as a substitute for physical travel during the pandemic outbreak of COVID-19 was examined, more specifically by looking at the relationship between perceived risk to travel and technological acceptance of VR. The findings suggest that tourists use VR as a travel substitute during and even after a pandemic. However, perceived risk does not play a significant role when it comes to using VR.

Artikkelen undersøker lærerens rolle i den spesialpedagogiske tiltakskjeden og videre hvordan elevens medvirkning kan inkluderes i denne prosessen. Tiltakskjeden består av seks faser hvor lærerens rolle er særlig viktig i første, femte og sjette fase. Med utgangspunkt i Lindensjö & Lundgrens (2000) begreper formulering- og realiseringsarenaen, vil vi gjennom et litteratursøk undersøke hva sentrale dokumenter og forskning sier om lærerens rolle og ansvar i den spesialpedagogiske tiltakskjede. Formuleringsarenaen handler om intensjoner og føringer i eksempelvis offentlige styringsdokumenter, mens realiseringsarenaen viser til hvordan disse intensjonene blir iverksatt. I diskusjonsdelen brukes en modell inspirert av Lindensjö og Lundgren (2000) som en analytisk linse for å diskutere artikkelens problemstilling sammen med resultater fra litteratursøket. Våre funn viser at lærernes rolle og ansvar, og elevens medvirkning i liten grad er løftet frem i tiltakskjeden. Resultatet viser at fokus i utvalgte dokumenter og forskingslitteratur har vært/er mer rettet mot saksgang og prosedyrer enn mot lærers rolle, ansvar og barns medvirkning i denne prosessen.

Ancient Egyptians allegedly moved large stone blocks by placing cylindrical rollers beneath them and manually urging them along. This rolling procedure required that the rollers emerging from the rear of the stone be manually lifted and replaced in front. This roller replacement protocol has been automated in commercially available roller units that allow continuous movement of heavy machinery under the action of pry bars, come-a-longs, winches, or manual push efforts. Unfortunately, when slopes or asperities are encountered these heavy loads may accelerate uncontrollably or steer themselves in unsafe directions when the roller units become reoriented. This paper describes two inventions that cause the locomotion of the machinery to proceed in inchmeal fashion by intermittently braking the system while the roller units are manually reset.

Lagrange’s equations of motion have been derived by assuming the roller chain to behave as a series of masses lumped at the roller centers and connected by bars of constant axial stiffness. The equations of motion are solved in the time domain until steady state conditions are achieved.

Occupational noise-induced hearing loss continues to be one of the most pervasive health problems in the mining industry, despite over 25 years of regulation. One of the loudest pieces of equipment used in underground mining is the continuous mining machine. Noise sample data collected by the Mine Safety and Health Administration indicate that 42% of noise overexposures between 2000 and 2005 involved continuous mining machine operators. Previously conducted field and laboratory tests have determined that the continuous mining machine conveyor system is a dominant noise source. Loud impacts occur as the conveyor chain flight bars, used to move the mined aggregate, traverse their path from the top to the underside of the conveyor deck. Various noise control treatments have been applied to abate noise caused by the conveyor system. A durable polyurethane coating has been developed for the conveyor flight bars, resulting in a time-weighted average reduction of 3 dB(A) for an eight-hour work shift. In an attempt to further reduce continuous mining machine operator overexposures, a similar urethane coating has been applied to the tail roller component of the conveyor system. Laboratory results showed a 2 dB(A) reduction in sound power levels, but the component failed during underground durability testing. An outer steel sleeve has been added to the urethane coating of the tail roller to enhance wear resistance during mining. The urethane jacketed tail roller is the latest effort, combined with previous noise treatments, to bring the continuous mining machine into compliance with federal noise regulations.

This paper presents a detailed experimental study to quantitatively assess the performance of a roll-plane Hydraulically Interconnected Suspension (HIS) system in articulation (warp) mode. This mode is critical for better off-road vehicle handling, particularly in utility vehicles. Articulation of a four-wheel vehicle describes the in-phase motion of two diagonally opposed wheels, with adjacent wheels moving out of phase. The widely used anti-roll bars, required for increased roll resistance, also stiffen the articulation mode, which may result in one or more wheels losing ground contact on uneven surfaces, compromising vehicle stability and safety. Yet roll-plane HIS systems are capable of decoupling vehicle roll from articulation. A comparative experimental analysis of HIS and conventional anti-roll bars has been conducted to evaluate vehicle dynamic performance at full-car level under articulation excitation. Test results demonstrate that the HIS system has a negligible effect on wheel travel in articulation mode, offering a significant improvement in vehicle handling and safety over conventional anti-roll bars.
