Abstract:
This dissertation explores the way Kotiria/Wanano (E. Tukanoan, Kotiria hereafter) women of the Brazilian Alto Rio Negro (ARN) contrive (McDowell 1990) kaya basa ‘sad songs’ using linguistic and musical resources to construct songs that express loneliness and other private emotions, while also creating alliances and separations from other women in their lives. A central concept is the practice of linguistic exogamy, in which Kotiria marry speakers of other languages, creating a multilingual and multivocal, cacophonic sound during po’oa exchange ceremonies. I compare these songs to mythological narratives depicting the beginnings of Kotiria society and the roles of men and women within it, as well as men’s ceremonial forms of speech and unmarried women’s joking songs as a way to think about the resonances of sound and meaning married women create in their songs. Drawing on resources from linguistic anthropology, ethnomusicology, semiotics, and intersectional feminism, I demonstrate that the singing of – and listening to – kaya basa is a fundamental social structuring event. Despite previous works (e.g., Brüzzi 1962) that saw men’s expressive practices like shamanic chanting or ritual instrument playing as those upholding the social order, I argue that the social order owes its stability equally to women’s public participation in musical practice. Following Hill’s formulation of musicalizing the other (1993, 2009, 2011, 2013), I demonstrate that kaya basa reflect on inter- and intra-community relations on the macro level, while also giving women the chance to comment on important life transitions on the micro level. Moreover, my combined linguistic and spectrographic analyses of the sounds of these songs illustrate the intricate relations between the sounds of language and the sounds of music, the methods by which one understands something is true or false, and how individual singers can contrive differently within the same genre to create a well-formed song. I propose further work on this genre, and on genres that seem to be related which are produced by other groups in the area. I extend Beier, Michael, and Sherzer’s (2002) conception of the greater Amazonian discourse area to one of a greater Amazonian soundscape in which sonic ways of producing and gathering meaning (acoustemologies, Feld 1996) have been and are a major driving force in the arraying of social life across language families in the ARN.

Vrednost objekata i njihova upotrebljivost opadaju vremenom usled neadekvatnog održavanja. Uobičajen model korektivnog održavanja postaje neprihvatljiv zbog toga što je ekonomski neodrživ. Reaktivno održavanje se zamenjuje proaktivnim održavanjem čijim se planiranjem nepredvidive intervencije svode na najmanju meru. To je moguće ostvariti uvođenjem savremene organizacije upravljanja održavanjem. Za kvalitetno održavanje neophodno je postojanje baze podataka koja omogućava planiranje i kontrolu aktivnosti na održavanju objekata.
The value of buildings as well as their utilization declines over the time due toinadequate maintenance. Usual method of corrective maintenance becomesunacceptable due to its economic unsustainability. Reactive maintenance isreplaced by proactive maintenance the planning of which provides forreduction of unpredictable interventions to the greatest possible extent. Thiscan be achieved by introducing modern organization of maintenancemanagement. With a view to establishing quality maintenance, it isnecessary to have the data base which enables planning and supervision ofbuilding maintenance activities.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the presence of modernist ideas regarding identity, language and narrative in the work of the neglected Sardinian author, Grazia Deledda (1871-1936). It has the overall aim of redefining Deledda’s later work as modernist for she has been disregarded by most critics and is generally classed as a minor, veristic writer. Drawing Deledda out of these restricted interpretations, this thesis demonstrates that Deledda straddles two literary modes, for she matures beyond veristic influences and looks forward to modernist ideas, particularly regarding the complex nature of the self. The thesis approaches Deledda from an entirely new perspective in that it focuses upon the crisis of identity in Deledda’s work, and its construction in the narrative of her novels, and its integral relationship with the theme of language. The theoretical framework of Julia Kristeva, Paul Ricoeur and Adriana Cavarero enables an innovative study of identity as a linguistic and narrative construct in Deledda’s work. I maintain that Deledda’s characters construct, control and understand their identities through their application of language or their command of narrative perspective, voicing their inner selves through linguistic self-expression. This study engages in a close textual analysis of three of Deledda’s key texts. La madre (1920) and Il segreto dell'uomo solitario (1921) illustrate Deledda’s movement away from verismo. Their protagonists suffer a crisis of identity which is bound up in linguistic expression and/or narrative control. Cosima (1937), which is Deledda’s most autobiographical text, displays the author’s close affinity with her writing. Creating a fiction of her own life, Deledda becomes both narrator and protagonist, self and other in the exploration of her own identity, which is integrally connected to the act of writing. The very composition of this text demonstrates the construction of identity in language and narrative which is illustrated within Deledda’s other works.

Abstract:
Ispitano je prisustvo toksičnih cijanobakterija u različitim ekosistemima sa teritorije Republike Srbije i analizirane su negativne posledice koje mogu da prouzrokuju ovi mikroorganizmi. Formirana je Baza podataka cijanobakterija u Srbiji koja prilaže veliki broj bitnih  i korisnih informacija iz preko 70 literaturnih izvora o prostiranju i učestalosti pojave cijanobakterija i njihovih toksina u periodu od 130 godina, kao i njihovih efekata na živi svet u vodenim ekosistemima, ali i šire. Istraživana su 64 vodena ekosistema, uključujući reke, jezera, bare, kanale, ribnjake, akumulacije za navodnjavanje, akumulacije za snabdevanje vodom za piće i akumulacije sa drugom namenom, gde je najčešće cvetalo pet vrsta cijanobakterija i to:  Microcystis aeruginosa,  Aphanizomenon flos-aquaePlanktothrix agardhii,  Microcystis flos-aquae  i  Planktothrix rubescens  koje ujedno i šire svoj areal rasprostranjenja na teritoriji Republike Srbije. U brojnim vodenim telima detektovani su mikrocistini i to u visokim koncentracijama.Istraživanje vodenog ekosistema Ludoš sa teritorije Republike Srbije vršeno je da bi se ustanovilo prisustvo i uticaj cijanobakterija i cijanotoksina na druge biljne i životinjske organizme u prirodnim uslovima. Trofički status jezera Ludoš najčešće je eutrofan, a cvetanje cijanobakterija kontinuirano još od 1970. godine. Tokom 2011. i 2012. godine  vrste Limnothrix  redekei  Pseudanabaena  limnetica  nađene  u  cvetanju. Detektovano je i prisustvo mikrocistina/nodularina i saksitoksina u biomasi i vodi, a mikrocistini su detektovani i u tkivu vodenih biljaka (trske  Phragmites communis, rogoza  Typha latifolia  i ljubičastog lokvanja Nymphaea elegans) i ribi (Carassius gibelio) iz jezera Ludoš. Histološkim pregledom tkiva ribe  pronađene su naizraženije promene u jetri, bubrezima i škrgama, a primećene su i na crevima.Testiranjem bioloških lesnih pokorica sa teritorije Vojvodine nisu detektovani mikrocistini/nodularini, a nije detektovana ni toksičnost uzoraka. Pretpostavlja se da su koncentracije cijanotoksina ispod granica detekcije ili ih nema u testiranim biološkim lesnim pokoricama. Razvojem novih metoda i optimizacijom postojećih za detekciju cijanotoksina u biološkim lesnim pokoricama i drugim terestričnim ekosistemima potrebno je proveriti dobijene rezultate.Proučavanjem svojstva 84 soja cijanobakterija iz NSCCC, koji potiču iz terestričnih i vodenih ekosistema sa teritorije Republike Srbije, dobijena je intracelularna toksičnost u eksponencijalnoj i stacionarnoj fazi rasta, kao i ekstracelularna toksičnost  kod jednog soja koji potiče sa terestričnog ekosistema. Dobijeni su i pozitivni rezultati  na prisustvo mikrocistina, nodularina ili/i saksitoksina kod 34,1% terestričnih i 55,5% vodenih sojeva koji potiču sa teritorije Republike Srbije. Rezultati ukazuju na  potencijalnu opasnost pojave ovih  mikroorganizama i njihovih toksičnih metabolita u različitim ekosistemima sa teritorije Republike Srbije.Eksperimentalno je potvrđena akumulacija mikrocistina u račiću  Daphnia pulex  usled ishrane toksičnim sojem iz NSCCC, zbog čega upotreba ove vrste račića u izvođenju bioloških testova za testiranje prisustva cijanotoksina treba da se preispita.  Štaviše, veliki broj jedinki dafnija (92,2%) koristio je istraživane sojeve iz NSCCC za ishranu, odnosno ishrana je bila moguća sa svim vodenim i sa gotovo 90% terestričnih sojeva, što može poslužiti kao osnov za dalja istraživanja prevencije cvetanja.S obzirom na mogućnost ishrane račića  Daphnia  sp. cijanobakterijama, kompleks ribnjaka sa teritorije Republike Srbije korišćen je za istraživanje potencijalnog načina prevencije pojave i cvetanja cijanobakterija u zavisnosti od pravovremenog unošenja pomenutog račića. Na osnovu koncentracije hlorofila  a  i trofičkog statusa,  kvalitativne i kvantitativne analize cijanobakterija, toksičnosti vode  i prisustva cijanotoksina mikrocistina/nodularina i saksitoksina, potvrđeno je smanjenje cvetanja cijanobakterija i drugih negativnih efekata u eksperimentalnim jezerima u odnosu na kontrolna. Ukoliko pak dođe do cvetanja i proizvodnje toksina  ijanobakterija u vodenim ekosistemima, zbog ozbiljnost pojave i mogućih negativnih posledica po zdravlje ljudi, neohodno je uvesti postupke eliminacije ćelija  cijanobakterija i njihovih  toksina u praksu pri obradi  otpadnih voda i prečišćavanja vode iz površinskih akumulacija u Republici Srbiji.
The presence of toxic  cyanobacteria in different ecosystems from the territory of the Republic of Serbia was analyzed as well as the negative consequences that may be causeed by these microorganisms. Serbian Cyanobacterial Data Base was formed where great number of important and useful information from over 70 literary sources regarding the distribution and frequency of cyanobacteria and their toxins over a period of 130 years, as well as their effects on wildlife in aquatic ecosystems, and beyond was presented. The study consisted of 64 aquatic ecosystems, including rivers, lakes, ponds, canals, irrigation reservoirs, reservoirs for drinking water supply and reservoirs with other purpose, where five species of cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa,  Aphanizomenon flos-aquae,  Planktothrix agardhii,  Microcystis flosaquae  and  Planktothrix rubescens  frequently bloomed, and also expanded their area of distribution on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. In many water bodies microcystins were detected in high concentrations.Research into aquatic ecosystem Ludoš, located on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, was performed in order to determine the presence and effect of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins on other plant and animal organisms in natural conditions. Trophic status of  the lake Ludoš was usually eutrophic, and cyanobacteria bloom is constant since 1970. During 2011 and 2012, the species Limnothrix  redekei  and  Pseudanabaena  limnetica  were found in blooming. Presence of microcystins/nodularin and saxitoxin was detected in  biomass and water, and microcystins were detected in tissues of aquatic plants (reed Phragmites communis, cattail Typha latifolia and royalblue waterlily  Nymphaea elegans) and fish (Carassius gibelio) from the lake Ludoš. Histological examination of tissue showed most prominent changes in liver, kidney and gills, and alterations were also observed in the intestine.Testing of the biological loess crust from Vojvodina showed no presence of microcystins/nodularin and toxicity of samples was not detected as well. It is assumed that cyanotoxin concentrations were below detection limit or are absent from the tested biological loess crusts. The development of new methods and optimization of existing ones for detection of cyanotoxins in biological loess crustsand  other terrestrial ecosystems is necessary in order to revise obtained results.Research of the properties from 84 strains of cyanobacteria from NSCCC originating from terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems from the territory of the Republic of  Serbia, resulte d inintracellular toxicity in exponential and stationary growth phase, as  well as extracellular toxicity of a strain originating from terrestrial ecosystems. The obtained results were positive for the presence of microcystins, nodularin and/or saxitoxin  for 34.1% terrestrial and 55.5% aquatic strains originating from the territory of the Republic of Serbia. These results demonstrate the potential risk of occurrence of these microorganisms and their metabolites in different ecosystems from the territory of the Republic of Serbia.Accumulation of microcystins in shrimp Daphnia pulex after feeding with toxic strain from NSCCC was experimentally confirmed, indicating that the use of this species of shrimp in biological tests which determine the presence of cyanotoxins needs to be revisited. Moreover, a large number of Daphnia  individuals (92.2%) used the investigated strains of NSCCC for food, and the feeding was possible with all  the water strains and nearly 90% of terrestrial strains, which can serve as a basis for further research of bloom prevention.With regard to the possibility shrimp Daphnia sp. feeding with cyanobacteria, a complex of ponds from the territory of the Republic of Serbia was used to explore  potential ways of prevention the occurrence and blooming of cyanobacteria, depending on the timely introduction of the aforementioned shrimp. Based on the concentrations of chlorophyll  a  and trophic status, qualitative and quantitative analysis of cyanobacteria, the toxicity of water and the presence of  cyanotoxins microcystins/nodularin and saxitoxin, reduction in blooming cyanobacteria and other negative effects in the experimental lakes when compared to the control lakes was confirmed. If the blooming regardless occurres as well as production of cyanobacterial  toxins in aquatic ecosystems, due to the seriousness of the phenomenon and the possible negative consequences for human health, it would be necessary to introduce  procedures for the elimination of cells of cyanobacteria and their toxins into practice in waste water treatment and purification of water from surface reservoirs in the Republic of Serbia.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is twofold. First, on a theoretical level, it aims to examine knowledge from two standpoints: translation theory and artificial intelligence (AI). Second, on a more practical level, it aims to explore the applicability of research in the branch of AI known as knowledge engineering to the eventual development of knowledge-base systems for translators (KBSTs). The "opaqueness" of a text, or its resistance to understanding, often reflects a difference between the translator's knowledge profile and the knowledge profile that the author of the original text assumed for his reader. Consequently, knowledge maximization can be considered a viable translation strategy for countering opaqueness. When translators work without sufficient knowledge, they are forced to fall back on a "transcoding" or word-bound approach, which, although it sometimes produces acceptable results, is likely to produce an unidiomatic text and is much more prone to serious translation errors. The goal of a KBST, therefore, must be to provide enough knowledge to allow the translator to engage his "interpretative" or meaning-based mode of translating. A knowledge-management system developed at the University of Ottawa called CODE (Conceptually Oriented Description Environment) offers a knowledge acquisition and retrieval environment that can be adapted to the needs of translators. A knowledge base on stock-market options, called optionCODE, was developed by the present author using the system to explore the principle and problems of designing and using KBSTs. An informal experiment demonstrated that translators using this knowledge base as their sole source of knowledge to translate a text concerning options performed as well as, if not better than, a translator using traditional sources. Abstract:
Following the entry of Cyprus into the European Union in 2004 and based on the philosophy which underpins the language policy in Europe, the island has been investing heavily in early foreign language learning. However, despite improvements in English language learning in primary state schools, no significant changes have been evident as regards the preparation of English teachers at this level. In conducting this research, my primary intention was to offer prospective and practising primary teachers a “voice” to express their own views regarding the content and teaching approach of a potential ELT module within teacher education curricula. The research adopted a mixed-method sequential approach carried out in two phases between March and July 2010. Data were initially obtained from 296 in-service primary teachers and 124 student teachers through a questionnaire-based survey. Data obtained in the second phase through individual and focus group interviews with 9 in-service-teachers and 11 student teachers respectively were used to explain, interpret and further examine the findings of the survey. The findings have highlighted the importance of theory and practice, showing evidence that both are necessary in order to avoid fragmented language teaching. The study suggests, therefore, that providing student teachers with meaningful opportunities to form links between the taught theory and its practical application is a fundamental basis for a more holistic teacher approach to teacher education. This study has also provided evidence that participants view learning as a process embedded in a social context, within which knowledge is constructed through collaborative, awareness-raising tasks set by mentors whose mediating roles in the creation of desirable learning contexts is perceived to be crucial. Although the findings of this research directly concern the Cypriot situation, they are likely to have broader applicability beyond Cyprus, especially in countries where early foreign language learning forms part of their educational agenda. Developing primary teachers’ language teaching knowledge and skills while considering the various types of support they receive during their pre-service education form part of a wider endeavour to ensure quality in early foreign language learning, an objective set by the European Union.

A thesis which aims to clarify the role of the basal ganglia in higher mental processes by investigating the role of the dorsolateral prefrontal circuit, the lateral orbital frontal circuit and the anterior cingulate circuit and other language related circuitry. Twenty five right-handed people with verified lesions of this circuitry were tested for attention, perfomance of complex motor programs, executive functions, memory and language skills and compared to a control group. It was found that mental processing associated with the basal cortical circuitry was orchestration of subprocesses (at the cortical level) and their integration (at the subcortical level) to enable their fluid and effective synchronization for the person to complete more complex tasks.

Uppsatsen behandlar om och på vilket sätt det faktum att franska talas i fler länder än Frankrike är uppmärksammat i kursplaner och textböcker i franska för gymnasiet. Jag har i detta sammanhang använt termen la francophonie för att beteckna franska talad utanför Frankrike, trots att Frankrike egentligen ingår i detta begrepp.

Vad det gäller kursplaner kan jag konstatera att de är mycket vagt formulerade, men att det är tydligt att man vill att eleverna skall lära sig om de kulturer och länder i vilka franskan förekommer. Eftersom läroböcker kan ses som en form av konkretisering av kursmålen har jag studerat tolv av dem för att se hur la francophonie behandlas i dem. Jag studerade hur många texter i läroböckerna som behandlar la francophonie, men även på vilket sätt texterna är formulerade. Det visade sig att de flesta böckerna innehöll texter som direkt eller indirekt behandlar franskan som ett globalt fenomen. Det var också tydligt att de flesta texterna gick bortom nationella klichéer för att istället fokusera på individers erfarenheter, något som är nödvändigt eftersom nationella identiteter bara är sociala konstruktioner. Det framkom även att de äldre läroböckerna hade ett mer eurocentriskt perspektiv, medan de nyare lät personer från till exempel le Maghreb komma till tals direkt. Många texter behandlade även de problem och möjligheter som skapas av det faktum att fler och fler personer befinner sig mellan flera kulturer.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine in what way teachers in upper secondary school who teaches non-language centered courses uses scaffolding within the theoretical context of language-based learning to support their students’ learning. The study will also examine if there is a difference depending on what subjects the teacher is licensed to teach in. The main methods used are observations and audio recordings of three different teachers during a total of six lessons. The material also consists of interviews with the observed teachers to give additional information about the teachers’ backgrounds and thoughts about language-based learning in relation to their teaching methods. The study is based on a sociocultural and cognitive approach along with the principles of scaffolding based in genre-based pedagogy and Jim Cummins’ theory on how to achieve language proficiency within a school-based contexed and its specialised domains. The results show that all teachers use scaffolding by creating an extensive context for learning within each domain. This contextual scaffolding helps the students learn the new language domain. The teachers also show variations in how they scaffold depending on the subject and student group with more abstract subjects being provided with more concrete exemplification. The conclusions drawn from this is that teachers use scaffolding to help students build the field of the domain and provide scaffolding according to the different subjects and student groups' current conditions and need for cognitive challenges.

Abstract:
Although some success has been achieved in the design of front-end natural language processors to data base management systems, transporting the processor to various data base management systems has proven to be elusive. A transportable system must be modular; it must be able to adapt to radically different data domains; and it must be able to communicate with many different data managers. The system developed accomplishes this by maintaining its own knowledge base distinct from the target data base management system, so that no communication is needed between the natural language processor and the data manager during the parse. The knowledge base is developed by interviewing the system administrator about the structure and meaning of the elements in the target data base. The natural language processor then converts the natural language query into an unambiguous intermediate-language query, which is easily converted to P the target query language using simple syntactic methods.

Our goal is to enable aWeb user to easily specify distributed data managementtasks in place, i.e. without centralizing the data to a single provider. Oursystem is therefore not a replacement for Facebook, or any centralized system,but an alternative that allows users to launch their own peers on their machinesprocessing their own local personal data, and possibly collaborating with Webservices.We introduce Webdamlog, a datalog-style language for managing distributeddata and knowledge. The language extends datalog in a numberof ways, notably with a novel feature, namely delegation, allowing peersto exchange not only facts but also rules. We present a user study thatdemonstrates the usability of the language. We describe a Webdamlog enginethat extends a distributed datalog engine, namely Bud, with the supportof delegation and of a number of other novelties of Webdamlog such as thepossibility to have variables denoting peers or relations. We mention noveloptimization techniques, notably one based on the provenance of facts andrules. We exhibit experiments that demonstrate that the rich features ofWebdamlog can be supported at reasonable cost and that the engine scales tolarge volumes of data. Finally, we discuss the implementation of a Webdamlogpeer system that provides an environment for the engine. In particular, a peersupports wrappers to exchange Webdamlog data with non-Webdamlog peers.We illustrate these peers by presenting a picture management applicationthat we used for demonstration purposes.

Syftet med denna studie var att utifrån ett språkutvecklande perspektiv, i en årskurs fem där man regelbundet tittar på nyheter i undervisningen, undersöka vad sådan undervisning får för konsekvenser för undervisningssituationen, undervisande lärare och de elever som finns representerade i klassen. För att genomföra undersökningen valde jag att använda mig av två kvalitativa datainsamlingsmetoder, intervju och observation.  Studien visar att arbetssättet med nyheter ger en vardagskunskap, är ämnesintegrerat och utvidgar barnens språk och tänkande. Den dialogiska undervisningen främjar och skapar förutsättningar för alla elever att möta och tillägna sig ett rikt och utvecklat språk.

Abstrakt

Syftet med studien var att undersöka om det finns en utveckling i boksamtal från förskola till skola. Ett annat syfte med studien var att undersöka hur pedagogerna arbetade med boksamtal i ett utvalt rektorsområde. För att uppfylla syftet genomfördes intervjuer med pedagoger och lärare i förskola och skola. Genom intervjuerna söktes en klarhet i hur pedagogerna och lärarna planerar, lägger upp och genomför boksamtal i de olika verksamheterna. För att få en tydligare bild hur boksamtalen genomfördes togs det del av ett färdiginspelat material, där studerades det hur boksamtalen gick till i både förskola och skola. Materialet som framkom under studien ställdes sedan mot tidigare forskning och teorier kring samspel, språk och miljö och tolkades utifrån en hermeneutisk ansats.

 

Resultatet som framkom var att både pedagoger och lärare arbetar på liknande sätt och att boksamtalen genomförs på ungefär samma tillvägagångssätt i de olika verksamheterna. Studien visar även att barn och elever utvecklar språket, samspelet och att våga tala inför andra.

The thesis introduces a proof of concept idea that could spark great interest from many industries. The idea consists of a remote Natural Language Interface (NLI), for querying Knowledge Bases (KBs). The system applies natural language technology tools provided by the Stanford CoreNLP, and queries KBs with the use of the query language SPARQL. Natural Language Processing (NLP) is used to analyze the semantics of a question written in natural language, and generates relational information about the question. With correctly defined relations, the question can be queried on KBs containing relevant Linked Data. The Linked Data follows the Resource Description Framework (RDF) model by expressing relations in the form of semantic triples: subject-predicate-object. With our NLI, any KB can be understood semantically. By providing correct training data, the AI can learn to understand the semantics of the RDF data stored in the KB. The ability to understand the RDF data allows for the process of extracting relational information from questions about the KB. With the relational information, questions can be translated to SPARQL and be queried on the KB.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine how preschool teachers work with an argumentative and alternative communication (ACC) and the importance of language tools for children’s language development. The study also aims to illuminate how the work with ACC is visible in the preschools physical activities and in the documentations as well as the importance it brings. To receive adequate information, interviews were held with active educationalist on how they observe ACC as stimulating tools for language development, if there are any differences in the use of language support depending on different situations and how the active work with language support is noticeable. The results among the interviewed preschool teachers shows a positive attitude towards the use of language support and that the methods are helpful and useful when educating the children. Results also shows that there is a common thread in the documentation work that extends from the work in groups with children in preschools up to the preschool managers.

Cilj istraživanja realizovanih u ovom radu, bio je je da se formalno opišu mogući pristupi transformacijama različitih opisa baza podataka iz jednog modela podataka u drugi i praktično provere kroz njihovu implementaciju u okviru jednog CASE alata, namenjenog projektovanju informacionih sistema i baza podataka. U skladu sa postavljenim ciljem definisan je metodološki pristup i softversko okruženje IIS*Ree koje omogućava visok nivo automatizacije procesa reinženjeringa informacionih sistema. Okruženje IIS*Ree, zasnovano na MDSD principima, kao krajnji rezultat generiše šemu baze podataka u izabranom ciljnom, konceptualnom ili implementacionom modelu podataka, kao i prototip aplikacije.
The goal of the research presented in this paper is to formally specify approaches to transformation of database specifications between different data models. The transformations are then to be implemented and tested using a CASE tool for modelling information systems and databases. Following this goal, a methodological approach is defined together with a software named IIS*Ree that provides a high level of automation of the information system reengineering process. The IIS*Ree software, developed in accordance to MDSD principles, generates database schemas specified in a target, conceptual or implementation data model, as well as application prototypes.

Abstract:
This thesis develops and tests a definition-oriented approach to concept analysis. In this approach, a computerized knowledge management system called CODE is used to help the terminologist carry out concept analysis specifically aimed at constructing intensional (Aristotelian) definitions for a terminological knowledge base (TKB). The approach is developed by first exploring what the literature has to say about the intensional terminological definition (ITD) as a process, a product, and a tool. The primary conclusion that arises from this exploration is that ITDs for co-concepts must be consistent in content and form, and must clearly indicate the place of their respective concepts in the concept system. Second, this thesis looks at how a specific feature of the CODE system, the Characteristic Comparison Matrix (CCM), can be enhanced to facilitate definition-oriented concept analysis. The result is a powerful, flexible feature that aids the terminologist in recording consistent characteristics and selecting characteristics for definition construction. Third, this thesis proposes enhancements to an existing general approach to concept analysis. These enhancements are based on definition research, knowledge of CODE, and introspection, supported by previous experience performing general concept analysis with the COGNITERM Project. The result is an approach which allows the terminologist to carry out concept analysis in a methodical manner, using CODE to create good, consistent ITDs for a TKB. This approach is tested by creating a TKB for the subject field of lasers (concentrating on 16 concepts), complete with ITDs. The approach works quite well, although it requires some minor modifications. The definitions are consistent and contain only that information necessary to distinguish co-concepts from one another and to indicate their place within a concept system. Although CODE is helpful in facilitating definition-oriented concept analysis, some enhancements to the technology would make it even more useful.

Ispitivanja primene vodonika u kliničkim uslovima su prilično nova, međutim efikasnostmolekularnog vodonika u dosadašnjim kliničkim ispitivanjima je evidentna. Cilj ovogistraživanja bio je da se ispita uticaj suplementacije sa vodom obogaćenom molekularnimvodonikom (HRW) na bazalne vrednosti parametara oksidativnog stresa kod vrhunskihdžudista. Eksperimentalni tretman odvijao se u dve faze. U prvoj fazi ispitanicieksperimentalne grupe (N=6) su bili suplementirani sa HRW (4g) u trajanju od 28 dana,dok je kontrolna grupa (N=6) koristila placebo. Nakon suplementacije ispitanici su imali„Washout“ period u trajanju od 28 dana, a zatim je ponovljen identičan protokol naispitanicima u trajanju od 28 dana. U drugoj fazi eksperimentalnog tretmana ispitivani suakutni efekti suplementacije molekularnim vodonikom na acido baznu ravnotežuvrhunskih džudiskinja. U ovoj fazi studije ispitanice eksperimentalne grupe (N=4) susuplementirane sa HRW (4g) , dok je kontrolna grupa (N=4) koristila placebo. Nakonsuplementacije ispitanice su imale „Washout“ period u trajanju od 4 dana, a zatim jeponovljen identičan protokol na ispitanicama pri čemu su ispitanice eksperimentalnegrupe (N=4) koristile placebo, dok je kontrolna grupa (N=4) suplementirana sa HRW.Rezultati ispitivanja aktivnosti antioksidativnih enzima kod Placebo i HRW grupeukazuju na pojavu statistički značajnih razlika u antioksidativnom statusu kod vrhunskihdžudista. Odgovor organizma usled unosa HRW ogleda se u povećanju aktivnosti enzimaSOD i sadržaja GSH usled sprovođenja programirane fizičke aktivnosti. Takođe, trendopadanja sadržaja MDA u HRW grupi je bio detektabilan. Primena HRW nije izazvalastatistički značajne promene u biohemijsko hematološkim parametrima. Akutni efektisuplementacije sa HRW uticali su statistički značajno na redukciju akumulacije laktatakao i na povećanje pH krvi nakon primene specifičnog džudo fitnes testa (SJFT) kodvrhunskih džudistkinja. Ipak, primena suplementa nije značajno uticala na poboljšanjeperformansi džudistkinja. Dobijeni rezultati ukazuju na ergogenu antioksidantnu moćmolekularnog vodonika, pri čemu su dalja istraživanja neophodna kako bi se podesiliuslovi u kojima bi molekularni vodonik ispoljio svoje maksimalno delovanje i u sportu.
Research of hydrogen application are quite new in clinical conditions, however theefficiency of molecular hydrogen in previous clinical studies is evident. The aim of thisstudy was to investigate the effect of supplementation with hydrogen rich water (HRW)on baseline oxidative stress parameters in elite male judokas. Experimental treatment wascarried out in two phases. In the first phase, experimental group (N=6) weresupplemented daily with HRW (4g) for 28 days, while the control group (N=6) was usedplacebo. After supplementation intake all subjects had "washout" period for 28 days, afterwhich the same protocol was repeated for a period of 28 days. In the second stage ofexperimental treatment, acute effects of supplementation with molecular hydrogen onacid base balance of elite female judokas were examined. In this phase of the study,subjects from experimental group (N=4) were supplemented daily with HRW (4g), whilethe control group (N=4) used placebo. After supplementation all subjects had a"washout" period for a 4 days, after which the same protocol was repeated wherein themembers of the experimental group (N=4) used placebo, while the control group (N=4)was supplemented daily with HRW. The results of analyzed antioxidant enzymes activityin placebo and HRW group indicated on the occurrence of statistically significantdifferences in antioxidant status of elite judo athletes. Obtained results indicate thatresponse of the body due to intake HRW is reflected in increasing levels of SOD andGSH due to the implementation of programmed physical activity. Also, trend of MDAdecreasing in HRW group was detectable. In addition, application of HRW did not causenegative changes in the biochemical and hematological parameters. Acute effects ofsupplementation were affected to a statistically significant reduction in lactateaccumulation and pH increase after applied special judo fitness test (SJFT) on the topjudoka. However, use of supplements had no significant effect on improving performancein elite judokas. Obtained results confirm ergogenic antioxidant power of molecularhydrogen, wherein further studies are necessary in order to adjust the conditions in whichmolecular hydrogen will exerted its maximum in sport.

Contemporary Spanish basal readers, published for use in elementary bilingual Spanish/English classrooms in the United States, reflect a technological view of curriculum, a behavioristic view of learning, and a part to whole view of reading. Although teacher's guides and promotional materials for the basal series make reference to recent reading theory and research, the basal materials themselves, when examined from a theoretical perspective, demonstrate little understanding of the reading process. Six basal reading programs, published since 1980, were studied: Addison Wesley's Hagamos Caminos; Scott Foresman's Focus: Leer para triunfar; Houghton Mifflin's Programa de lectura en espanol de Houghton Mifflin; Macmillan's Mil Maravillas; Economy's Economy Spanish Reading Program; and Santillana's Lectura en dos idiomas. Each series was surveyed using the Program Profile Continuum Survey and then analyzed in depth with the Spanish Program Profile Instrument. Both evaluation instruments focus on reading, language, learning, and teaching theory. The results of the study of the six series suggest the programs are more alike than different. These similarities can be summarized as follows: (1) Despite the fact that the series approach print differently, the ultimate goal of skill exercises in all the series is word identification. (2) Recent comprehension theory is discussed in the teacher's guides, but comprehension questions reflect the idea that comprehension is a product rather than a process. (3) Student text is carefully controlled and often repetitious because the assumption is that language is habit. (4) The language of the majority of the student text in all of the series is adapted. (5) The materials reflect the view that the teacher is a technician leading the passive learner. (6) The scope and sequence of the programs sets many students up for failure because each step is dependent upon mastery of the previous steps. The materials of the Spanish basal reading programs studied do not reflect the current state of knowledge about the reading process in Spanish. Alternate programs using a whole language approach to learning would allow Hispanic students to choose their own reading, write their own stories, and become literate in their first language.

Due to the common belief that language is unique to humans, great emphasis has been placed on the neocortex, while the role of the subcortical areas has been minimized. This project used event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to study the linguistic involvement of the basal ganglia (BG). Previous research has demonstrated that the BG are implicated in building up sequences of behavior into meaningful, goal-directed repertoires This study developed the idea of motor sequencing into linguistic sequencing to test the BG's involvement in the abstract sequencing of language. Since past imaging studies failed to present a coherent picture of the BG laterality, which might be due to the absence of the control for subjects' familial handedness background, this subject factor was also investigated.Twenty-four right-handed, neurologically healthy English speakers were recruited. Half of them had left-handed blood relatives (FS+); the other half did not (FS-). Their tasks included 1) linguistic sequencing--reordering phrases into a sentence or reordering words along the general-specific dimension, 2) non-linguistic sequencing--swapping designated phrases/words and 3) repeat--repeating words in their original sequence. Voxel-wise analysis showed that both the BG and cortical areas were activated when subjects performed a reordering task. Region of interest (ROI) analysis demonstrated that the BG were involved in linguistic sequencing (reorder - repeat) and that Broca's area and the caudate head were co-opted in computing hierarchical structure (reorder - swap). Although familial sinistrality did not alter the activation pattern of Broca's area and the caudate head, it played a role in their activation asymmetry: both subject groups had left-lateralization in the inferior frontal gyrus, but they failed to show identical laterality in the BG. A possible explanation based on the direct and indirect pathways in the BG was offered and the laterality discrepancy was attributed to these two groups' different time course of language acquisition.To summarize, this study suggested that the BG, especially the head of the caudate nucleus, were involved in the abstract sequencing of language and that the distinct brain asymmetry associated with different familial sinistrality background might be rooted in the BG.

Languages rely on grammatical rules, by which even such variable constituents as adverbials are affected. However, due to the many different positions in Old English sentences taken up by adverbials, it is easy to wrongfully assume that there is an absence of grammatical rules regarding adverbials in Old English. Hence, it may be possible to detect patterns of behaviour among Old English adverbs if their different position and movement within various clauses is studied systematically. This paper has been focused on examining two conjunct adverbs, and two disjunct adverbs, functioning as sentence adverbials in prose, in order to contribute information of where they are base-generated within the syntactic structure of Old English clauses, and thus hopefully contribute to a better understanding of the grammatical system of Old English. 120 sentences of prose containing sentence adverbials have been examined according to the Government and Binding Theory, as introduced in Stæfcræft: An Introduction to Old English Syntax, in order to establish where the different textual constituents of Old English are base-generated.

This thesis presents an implementation of the model base concept in SIMSCRIPT II.5. It shows two principles in designing a flexible general simulation system. First of all, the input and output port intercommunication and synchronization should be done by an I/O coupling scheme, i.e. a coordinator. Second, every input port should be a separate file in the model base. Users can retrieve these files to couple them together and evaluate the simulation run. A well-designed computer network model base is shown through several examples. It will help the computer network system design to be done in a modular, hierarchical, coordinated fashion.

Predmet istraživanja ove doktorske disertacije je mogućnost uspostavljanja modela Big Data sistema sa pripadajućom softversko –  hardverskom arhitekturom za podršku senzorskim mrežama i IoT uređajima. Razvijeni model počiva na energetsko efikasnim, heterogenim, masovno paralelizovaim SoC hardverskim platformama, uz podršku softverske aplikativne arhitekture (poput OpenCL) za unifikovan rad.Pored aktuelnih hardverskih, softverskih i mrežnih računarskih tehnologija i arhitektura namenjenih za rad podkomponenata modelovanog sistema u radu je predstavljen istorijski osvrt na njihov razvoj. Time je naglašena tendencija cikličnog kretanja koncepcijskih paradigmi računarstva, kroz svojevrstne ere centralizacije – decentralizacije computinga. U radu su predstavljene tehnologije i metode za ubrzavanje operacija  u bazama i skladištima podataka. Istražene su mogućnosti za bolju pripremu Big Data informacionih sistema  koji treba da zadovolje potrebe  novo najavljene informatičke revolucije opšte primene računarstva tzv. Ubiquitous computing-a i Interneta stvari (IoT).
The research topic of this doctoral thesis is the possibility of establishing a model for Big Data System with corresponding software-hardware architecture to support sensor networks and IoT devices.  The developed model is based on energy efficient, heterogeneous, massively parallelized SoC hardware platforms, with the support of software application architecture. (Such as an open CL) for unified operation.  In addition to current hardware, software and network computing technologies, and architecture intended to operate subcomponents of the system modeled in this paper is presented as an historical overview of their development.  Which emphasizes the tendency of the cyclic movement of the conceptual paradigm of computing, through the unique era of centralization/decentralization of computing. The thesis presents the technology and methods to accelerate operations in databases and data warehouses. We also investigate the possibilities for a better preparation of Big Data information systems to meet the needs of the newly announced IT revolution in the announced general application of computing called Ubiquitous computing and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Les modèles connexionistes de traitement en parallèle se sont inspirés de nos connaissances actuelles du cerveau humain. Selon ces modèles, les unités lexicales sont représentées dans l'esprit sous forme d'entrées liées dans un vaste réseau de connexions ; il s'agit d'un système adaptif très complexe qui permet un traitement extrêmement rapide et performant. Les connexions elles-mêmes doivent leur existence aux informations stockées à l'intérieur de chaque entrée lexicale : tout trait qui est partagé par deux ou plusieurs entrées peut susciter une connexion. L'apprenant possède dans son esprit des connaissances lexicales de deux langues à la fois, et la nature des connexions interlinguistiques s'avère cruciale pour tout modèle du lexique mental L2. Les nombreuses possibilités de connexions entre les deux lexiques sont alors étudiées en détail. The recent appearence of connectionist models of parallel processing derives from our current knowledge of the human brain. According to these models, lexical items are represented in the mind in the form of entries connected up into a vast network ; it is this highly complex adaptive system which gives rise to our extremly rapid and efficient lexical entry : any trait which is common to two or more entries is liable to generate a connection. As regards the learner who has lexical knowledge of two language systems in his mind, the nature of the connections between items of the two languages is crucial for any model of the 12 mental lexicon. The many possibilities of connections between the two lexicons are therefore examined in detail. The model presented is backed up by interlinguistic word association experiments, which are argued to provide an invaluable (if indirect and thus often neglected) source of evidence in the development of connectionist models of the 12 mental lexicon

Noun phrases convey key information in communication and are of interest in NLP tasks. A base NP is defined as the headword and left-hand side modifiers of a noun phrase. In this thesis, we identify base NPs in Universal Dependencies treebanks in English and French using an RNN architecture.The data of this thesis consist of three multi-layered treebanks in which each sentence is annotated in both constituency and dependency formalisms. To build our training data, we find base NPs in the constituency layers and project them onto the dependency layer by labeling corresponding tokens. For input features, we devised 18 configurations of features available in UD annotation. We train RNN models with LSTM and GRU cells with different numbers of epochs on these configurations of features.Tested on monolingual and bilingual test sets, our models delivered satisfactory token-based F1 scores (92.70% on English, 94.87% on French, 94.29% on bilingual test set). The most predicative configuration of features is found out to be pos_dep_parent_child_morph, which covers 1) dependency relations between the current token, its syntactic head, its leftmost and rightmost syntactic dependents; 2) PoS tags of these tokens; and 3) morphological features of the current token.

Den här språksociologiska undersökningen tar reda på hur individer anpassar sitt språkliga uttryck i samband med toalettbesök i privat, offentligt och högtidligt sammanhang, samt deras grad av medvetenhet och normanpassning i känsliga sammanhang. Detta har gjorts genom en enkätstudie där totalt 362 respondenter svarat på både öppna och slutna frågor, vilket har gett både kvantitativa och kvalitativa data. Det empiriska materialet har efter bearbetning jämförts med tidigare forskning och teoretiska perspektiv, vilket utmynnat i resultaten att de allra flesta ackommoderar efter sammanhang och är medvetna om hur de ackommoderar i formella sammanhang. Ytterligare en tendens resultatet visar är att det postmoderna samhället påverkat samhällsutvecklingen mot en mer öppen kommunikationsstil där relationer skapas och samarbete eftersträvas.
This sociolinguistic research examines how individuals adapt their linguistic expression in relation to toilet visits in private, public and formal contexts, as well as their degree of awareness and accommodation in sensitive contexts. A total of 362 respondents, have answered a questionnaire with both open and closed questions, which has given both quantitative and qualitative data. After processing, the empirical material has been compared with former research and theoretical perspectives, concluding that a majority of the respondents accommodate according to context and are aware of how they accommodate in formal contexts. The result also tends to that the postmodern society has influenced the social progress towards a more open style of communication in which relationships are created and cooperation is sought.

U okviru doktorske disertacije predstavljen jerazvoj hibridnog modela za ocenjivanje životnog ciklusaproizvoda i procesa. Razvoj hibridnog modela se ogledakroz unapređenje postojećeg metodskog okvira LCA, te jestoga uključio razvoj svih faza LCA, a koje obuhvatajudefinisanje cilja i predmeta, inventar životnog ciklusa,ocenjivanje uticaja životnog ciklusa i interpretacijurezultata. Najznačajnija unapređenja su sprovedena uokviru faza inventara životnog ciklusa i ocenjivanja uticajaživotnog ciklusa. Izmene koje se odnose na načinprikupljanja podataka, su razvijene zbog uključivanjaparametara potrebnih za izračunavanje vrednosti sadržajaeksergije tokova. Unapređenje faze ocenjivanja uticajaživotnog ciklusa se ogleda kroz razvoj originalnog pristupaza izračunavanje ukupne potrošnje eksergije, krozuključivanje dodatne kategorije uticaja, razvijanjeindikatora kategorije uticaja i razvijanje pristupa zaizračunavanje karakterizacionih faktora. Sprovedena je ianaliza postojećih LCIA metoda, radi izbora adekvatnogmetoda u koji će biti uključena dodatna kategorija uticaja,kao i indikator kategorije uticaja, koji zajedno opisujuukupnu potrošnju eksergije tokom čitavog životnogciklusa. Takođe, prilikom razvoja kategorije uticaja supoštovani određeni kriterijumi, koje ona mora da zadovoljida bi mogla biti adekvatno uključena u odabrani LCIAmetod. Pored toga, bitan deo unapređenja ocenjivanjauticaja životnog ciklusa, leži u razvoju proračunakarakterizacionih faktora. Razvijena dodatna kategorijauticaja nazvana je Ukupna potrošnja eksergije - UPE, aizražava se preko indikatora MJex. LCIA metod koji jeodabran na osnovu SWOT analize u koji je ova dodatnakategorija uticaja uključena je CML metod. Postavljenihibridni metodski okvir posmatra kompletan životni ciklus,ali i svaki od jediničnih procesa koji uključuju elementarnetokove, odnosno tokove uzete iz prirodnog sistema bezdodatne obrade, kao i tokove proizvoda, odnosno tokovekoji su na neki način izmenjeni od strane pojedinihantropogenih sistema. Izračunavanje sadržaja eksergije ikarakterizacionih faktora je sprovedeno kako zaelementarne tokove tako i za tokove proizvoda.Funkcionalnost i praktična primenljivost razvijenoghibridnog modela je verifikovana na dva primera, koji suobuvatili proizvodnju laminatnog parketa i međusobnukomparaciju hibridnih baznih predajničkih stanica ikonvencionalnih baznih predajničkih stanica. Dobijenirezultati daju jednu zaista detaljniju i širu sliku mehanizmanastanka i izvora negativnih uticaja tokom životnog ciklusaposmatranih industrijskih sistema. Time je potvrđenanjegovu praktična primenljivost, kao i ukupni ciljistraživanja. Rezultati istraživanja realizovani u okvirudoktorske disertacije, u opštem smislu, daju doprinosstvaranju osnove za izdradnju puta ka razvoju i proizvodnjiodrživih proizvoda i procesa. Razvijeni hibridni model zaocenjivanje životnog ciklusa proizvoda i procesa pružadodatne informacije, koje mogu biti korisne u procesudonošenja odluka na svim nivoima, kako u industriji tako iu državnim institucijama.
This PhD thesis presented the development of ahybrid model for life cycle assessment of products andprocesses. The development of a hybrid model includes theimprovement of the existing methodological LCAframework, and therefore of all phases of the LCA:definition of goal and scope, inventory analysis, life cycleimpact assessment and interpretation. The most significantimprovements have been made within the inventoryanalysis and life cycle impact assessment phases.Improvement have been made in relation to the method ofdata collection, due to the inclusion of parameters forcalculation of the exergy content of in- and output flows.Improvement of the life cycle impact assessment phase isreflected through the development of original approach forcalculating the total consumption of exergy, through theinclusion of additional impact category, development ofindicator for impact category and development of methodfor calculation of characterization factors. The analysis ofexisting LCIA methods was performed, in order to choosethe appropriate method that will incorporate this additionalimpact category, as well as an impact category indicator,which together should describe the total consumption ofexergy throughout the entire life cycle. Further,development of this impact category have been compliedwith certain criteria which it must meet in order to beproperly incorporated in the chosen LCIA method. Besidesthis, an important part of improvement of the life cycleimpact assessment is the development of method forcalculation of characterization factors. Developedadditional impact category is named Total exergyconsumption, and it's expressed through indicator of MJex.LCIA method that is chosen based on the performedSWOT analysis and which incorporated this additionalimpact category is CML method. Developed hybridmethodological framework takes into account the entire lifecycle, and each of the unit processes that involveselementary flows (flows taken from the natural systemwithout any further processing), as well as product flows(flows that are in some way altered by certainanthropogenic system). Calculation of exergy andcharacterization factors was performed for both elementaryand product flows.Functionality and practical applicability of thedeveloped hybrid model was verified through two casestudies, which are the production of laminate parquetflooring and comparison of hybrid base transceiver stationsand conventional base transceiver stations. The obtainedresults provided more detailed and more broader insight ofthe mechanism of the generation and source of negativeimpacts throughout the life cycle of observed industrialsystems. Thus, the practical applicability of the developedhybrid model and goal of the research have beenconfirmed. The results of the research contribute tocreation of the foundation for designing a path towardsdevelopment and manufacturing of sustainable productsand processes. The developed hybrid model for the lifecycle assessment of products and processes providesadditional information that may be useful in decisionmakingprocess at all levels, within both industry andgovernment institutions.

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to examine which attitudes and experiences teachers have around the wide text concept, which is found in the course plan for the Swedish subject, and to find out which function films have in their teaching. The starting point of the paper’s theoretical part is the Swedish subject’s course plans and current research concerning the wide text concept and film in teaching. In order to achieve the formulated aim, qualitative interviews have been performed with three Swedish teachers active in the later years of compulsory-school.

The result shows that there are divided opinions of the actual meaning of the concept. However the three teachers agree that film has something to enrich the teaching of the Swedish language and they are for most part positive to using film in their teaching. There are certain differences as to how film is practically used in teaching by the three interviewed teachers, but film is used largely in three ways as also the researcher Christina Olin-Scheller has concluded: as illustration, as complement and as comparison. The three interviewed teachers also mean that the students, for most parts, are positive to using film as a teaching method and that lessons using film function satisfactory.

Föreliggande arbete inriktar sig på lärares sätt att kommunicera i undervisning av ensemble där de bemöter flera elever samtidigt. Med hjälp av videoobservationer av fyra lärare som bedriver undervisning av mindre ensembler på gymnasiet har jag analyserat fram vilka kommunikationssätt som används samt hur de används. Resultatet visar att lärarna använder sig av så väl verbal som icke-verbal kommunikation i sin undervisning. Via flertalet multimodala och semiotiska resurser kommunicerar musiklärarna med sina elever under lektionens gång. De kommunikationsspråk som förekommer är ett socialt, humoristiskt, auktoritärt, gestaltande, kunnigt och målande språk. I diskussionen tar jag bland annat upp hur lärarna i undersökningen valt att designa sin undervisning utifrån situationerna om spel och i spel, samt vad detta ger för förutsättningar för dem själva och deras elever.
The study focuses on how teachers communicate when teaching music ensembles in which they meet several students simultaneously. With the help of recorded video lessons of four teachers while teaching small ensembles at the high school level, I have analysed the means of communication and how these are applied. The results show that teachers use verbal as well as nonverbal communication in their teaching. They communicate with their students during the lesson via several multimodal semiotic resources. The language of communication that results is a social, humorous, authoritative, creative, knowledgeable and vivid language. In the chapter on discussion, I present among other things, how the teachers in the study chose to design their education based on the situations regarding performance and through performance, and the conditions thus created for themselves and their students.
