The contribution by the water table to crop water use was evaluated in the absence of surface water application from lysimetric studies in a glassliouse during 1988, 1989 and 1990. The water table contribution was measured for beans, barley and lettuce in the presence of constant water tables 60, 90 and 120 cm deep. Phosphorus (P) is an important agricultural non-point source pollutant that could contribute to eutrophication of surface waters. In this study, the HYDRUS (2D/3D) model was evaluated for simulation of water flow and P transport in a clay loam soil in southern Ontario. The model was calibrated and validated using field data from two 0.1 ha test plots between 2008-2011. These plots have controlled tile drainage and a corn-soybean crop rotation. This work investigates several aspects of time domain reflectometry (TDR) theory and application. One of these aspects is the study of the influence of TDR probe geometries on the travel time. No change in the travel time resulted from increasing either the diameter of wire or spacing.
