Abstract:
The relationship between workers and employers in South Africa is governed by various labour statutes such as the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA). The Basic Conditions of Employment Act regulates the working conditions of employees, including working hours, leave, particulars of employment and remuneration and termination of employment, etc. The purpose is to ensure that employees are not exploited and that they do not have to negotiate for these basic conditions of service. The BCEA does not prescribe the minimum remuneration that an employer must pay an employee, so the BCEA empowe

Current debates concerning the future of social security provision in advanced capitalist states have raised a citizens‟ basic income (CBI) as a possible reform package. The proposal is based on the principles of individuality, universality and unconditionality and ensures a minimum income guarantee for all members of society. Implementing a CBI, thus, entails radical reform of existing patterns of welfare delivery and would bring into question the institutionalized relationship between work and welfare, upon which modern welfare states are premised. A new understanding of the damage formation mechanisms in Si is developed and investigated over an extended range of ion energy, dose, and irradiation temperature. A simple model for dealing with ion-induced damage is proposed, which is shown to be applicable over the range of implantation conditions. An excess exists in the lattice when there is a local surplus of one particular type of defect, such as an interstitial, over its complimentary defect (i.e., a vacancy). Abstract:
The creation of the groundwater model of the Upper San Pedro Basin included two developmental phases: the creation of a conceptual and numerical model. The creation of the conceptual model was accomplished through the utilization of Geographic Information System (GIS) software, namely ArcView, used primarily to view and create point, line, and polygonal shapes. The creation of a numerical model was accomplished by the infusion of the conceptual model into a 3D finite difference grid used in MODFLOW groundwater software from the U.S. Geological Survey. Abstract:
Sea bass (Lateolabrax maculatus) has been used for dietary therapy practice in China. In traditional Chinese medicinal books, it has been indicated that sea bass can be applied for managing many inflammation associated conditions. However, the studies on the pharmacological mechanisms of anti-inflammation of sea bass remain scarce. Hence, this study aims to illustrate the pharmacological and chemical basis for the folk use of sea bass in managing inflammation- associated conditions. For in vivo studies, dietary effect of sea bass on inflammation-associated conditions in ulcerative colitis, skin

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to document and describe newly observed marine fossils from the upper part of the Degonia Sandstone and to infer the depositional setting of this horizon. Previous studies have shown that the Degonia Sandstone (Elviran Stage, Chesterian Series, Mississippian Subsystem) contains sedimentological evidence of several depositional environments (i.e. terrestrial, fluvial, nearshore deltaic, tidal, and possible marine zones); however, no body fossils had been observed. The only fossils identified in the Degonia are non-diagnostic trace fossils and Carboniferous plant rem

The field of adult literacy and basic education (ALBE) has undergone dramatic changes in recent years with the advent of labour market programs, accreditation, competency-based assessment and competitive tendering for program funds. Teachers' working conditions have deteriorated and their professional autonomy has been eroded. ALBE has been increasingly instrumentalised to fulfil the requirements of a marketised economy and conform to its norms. The beliefs and value systems which traditionally underpinned the work of ALBE teachers have been reframed according to the principle of 'performativi

Abstract:
Cultured bovine aortic endothelial (BAE) cells were found to synthesize and secrete heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPG), which bound basic fibrobalst growth factor (bFGF). bFGF is a known mitogen for vascular smooth muscle cells, and is indicated to have a role in some proliferative vascular disorders. In the present study, we have purified proteoglycans from BAE cells conditioned media (BAE PG), and further separated the PG into two fractions, PG-I and PG-II, by ion exchange chromatography on a Q-Sepharose column using a linear salt gradient (0.15 M to 1.2 M). PG-I and PG-II elute at 0.85M s

Abstract:
In this work, we have implemented an orbital-free density functional theory (OF-DFT) solver using the finite element method. In OF-DFT, the total ground state energy is minimized directly with respect to the electron density, rather than via orbitals like in the standard Kohn-Sham approach. For this to be possible, one needs an approximation of a universal density functional of the non-interacting kinetic energy. Presently available approximations allow for computation with very low computational expense, but which gives inaccurate energies. A stable OF-DFT code can be used as a testbed for ne
