Abstract:
In the article, from the point of view of the theory of values, the main categories of political philosophy are considered: politics, management, power. The tribal community was governed by rituals and taboos. In civil society, it is necessary to develop an order of relations between strangers, and for this it is necessary to adopt some rules of behavior that become laws and develop into legal codes, sets of legal norms.
Two circumstances are of fundamental importance in the functioning of social roles: due to the fact that the social role is a secondary and transformed form of personality, it represents, replaces one, several or many personalities. The phenomenon of representation is dialectically accompanied by its reverse side – the personification of a social role. The performer of a particular social role, occupying a position, being nominated for a particular post, being endowed with a certain rank, rank or degree and title, not only freely, but also out of necessity identifies himself and his social position.

Abstract:
For Excel’s calculation of basic (fixed) assets amortisation values, the investigated economic and mathematical foundation with required values and their relations were used. The investigated and introduced theory is adapted to Excel calculations of fixed assets amortisation based on today’s needs. All values for Excel’s calculations are sorted into input and output values, and input to main and nested calculations. Two methods for calculating fixed assets amortisation were introduced using Excel. The first method is based on a linear decreasing function, G(t) = G0 (1-pt), which presents the simple interest calculation of the reduced equities for equal periodic amortisation values. The second method is based on the exponential degrading function, G(t) = G0qt, which presents a complex interest calculation of the reduced equities for periodic amortisation amounts in a descending sequence. The continuity of the introduced functions results from the continuity of: the life of the fixed asset, periodic amortisation, accumulated amortisation and non-amortized amount (residual value) of the fixed asset. It is particularly important to introduce dates with the exact time, for the beginning and the end of each amortisation period of the fixed asset. The theory for Excel’s calculation of the fixed asset output values for an arbitrary (planned or unplanned) term has also been explored and introduced. Such calculations relate mainly to terms of alienation, permanent damage, permanent loss of the process function of a fixed asset and periodic accounting reporting.

Abstract:
The research is devoted to understanding the problem of effective work of state institutions, as well as identifying the causes and consequences of the loss of institutional memory. Philosophical and general scientific methods of scientific research were used for this purpose, in particular the comparative-historical method, the method of system analysis, the comparative-critical method, etc., which helped to identify the causes of the loss of institutional memory. It is substantiated that philosophy is an effective methodology of «understanding» (in the language of H. — G. Gadamer), which performs the function of analytical work. It is established that the effective functioning of state institutions is the basis for the development of a smart society. After all, institutions do not work without the rule of law. Based on sociological analysis, it is substantiated that the effective work of state institutions depends not only on the rule of law, but also on the values professed by society. It has been established that inefficient work of state institutions is always inequality. The higher the inequality, the higher the risks of social conflict. Namely, inefficient work of state institutions leads to social tensions and social conflicts. Components such as legitimacy, state strategy, overcoming inequality, law and social values are important for the effective functioning of state institutions. Undoubtedly, the loss of institutional memory is one of the most threatening trends, as «freedom without borders» turns into «arbitrariness», «responsibility» into «irresponsibility», and sometimes «impunity», respectively, only effective institutions are a prerequisite for the law-governed state, where the rule of law is addressed to the individual, respect for his rights, freedoms and dignity. Undoubtedly, in order to make qualitative progress in the field of public administration, it is necessary to promote the growth of «human capital», ie to invest in education, to model the socio-humanitarian strategy of Ukraine. And, thus, to educate and form people of the new generation who will not imitate, but really create those social institutions that will reflect our true values. It is investment in intellectual capital that will build a country of equal opportunities and equal access to justice.

AbstractBasic values explain more variance in political attitudes and preferences than other personality and sociodemographic variables. The values most relevant to the political domain are those likely to reflect the degree of negativity bias. Value conflicts that represent negativity bias clarify differences between what worries conservatives and liberals and suggest that relations between ideology and negativity bias are linear.

Abstract:
This thesis is to be seen as a preliminary version of my doctoral thesis. It deals with problems concerning how our basic values influence development processes, mainly within the areas of software development and organizational change. Two main foci are presented, one theoretical and one empirical. The theoretical focus deals with the question: Is there objectivity in the theoretical framework, the knowledge and the experience on which the choices of strategies are based? The empirical focus deals with the question: How can knowledge about healthy work, usability and organizational matters be put into practice in the organizational and software development process? The preliminary conclusion shows that, when put under pressure, basic values are often clearly evident, though not necessarily evident to the individual herself. The will to grasp at models or methods that follow contemporary trends increases as well. In the end, time and money control the process, and all the magnificent ideas of a system built for a better work environment have soon faded away. This loss reflects the basic values in the organization, as well as it reflects a lack of awareness of the consequences of different strategic decisions.

Abstract:
This essay aims to illustrate how teachers from two different schools work to convey values in their professional roles, according to the basic values found in the Swedish curriculum Lgr11. This has been done through qualitative interviews with these schools’ teachers, individual at one school and in a group at the other. The results show that these teachers share roughly the same view on basic values, but that the methods employed by the teachers of either school differ. They also show that these two schools’ management prioritize this work differently. Conclusions that can be drawn from the results are that schools where this type of work is prioritized and where teachers work from the same point of view have greater success in conveying basic values.

Abstract:
The concept of values has long been suggested as an important concept across social sciences (e.g. Inglehart, 1977; Kluckhohn, 1951; Williams, 1968). Despite the lack of agreement on the content of values and also diversity of perspectives on the roles of values (Kluckhohn, 1951; Van Deth and Scarbrough, 1995) there is a general agreement about the vital role of values in human beings' lives (Dewey, 1939; Hechter, 1992; Joas, 1996; Kluckhohn, 1951; Mandler, 1993; Rokeach, 1973; Schwartz, 1992). To help to get a better idea about content and role of values, this thesis discusses important contemporary theories of values and then presents evidence testing one of these theories, which suggests a dynamic circumplex structure of values based on motivational conflicts and compatibilities among them (Schwartz, 1992). Six experiments provided strong support for this model of values. Experiments 1 to 3 provided support for the circumplex structure by revealing the first evidence of inter-value relations in memory. That is, they revealed that people judge the conceptual relations between pairs of motivationally congruent values and motivationally opposing values quicker than pairs of motivationally unrelated values. Moreover, the results explained how motivational conflicts and compatibilities affected response times over and above semantic relations. Experiment 4 supported the circumplex structure of values by providing evidence that prioritizing specific values not only increases the importance of the prioritized values and similar values, but also decreases the importance of opposed values. Experiment 5 revealed that priming a specific value increases likelihood of the value-relevant behaviours, while decreasing value-opposed behaviours. Finally, Experiment 6 found support for influence of value conflicts on feelings of ambivalence. Overall, the results offered further support for the circumplex structure of values and extended prior research using new methods (e.g. measuring value associations in memory), designs (e.g. effects of value change on behaviours relevant to different values), and measures (e.g. feelings of ambivalence).

Kulin, Joakim. "Values and welfare state attitudes : The interplay between human values, attitudes and redistributive institutions across national contexts." Doctoral thesis, Umeå universitet, Sociologiska institutionen, 2011. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-49975.

Full text
Abstract:
While there is much research aiming to assess the determinants of welfare state attitudes, there are not many studies focussing on how human values influence attitude formation. This thesis explores the relationship between values and welfare state attitudes across national contexts. In doing so, it focuses on the moderating influence of contextual factors on the values-attitudes link. In order to measure values properly, and to study their effects on welfare state attitudes, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and multi-group structural equation modelling (MGSEM) is used. These methods enable testing for measurement equivalence across groups, a prerequisite for comparing the effects of human values across countries. The individual-level data used in this thesis comes from the European Social Survey (ESS) between 2002-08. The findings show that values can play an important role in welfare state attitude formation, but that the impact of values on attitudes differs considerably across national contexts. Several country-specific contextual factors such as the generosity of redistributive institutions, their framing and their distributive outcomes moderates the values-attitudes link. In more generous welfare states and where redistributive issues are more articulated in the political debate, the impact of, for instance, egalitarian values on redistributive attitudes is comparably strong. Moreover, in countries where lower social classes are more exposed to risks and lack resources to meet these risks, class differences in the values-attitudes link are greater. Finally, the results show that the particular values that underlie welfare state attitudes in Eastern Europe are fundamentally different to those in Western Europe. The results imply that the impact of values on welfare state attitudes mainly depends on (i) whether people perceive welfare state institutions to have important consequences for the extent to which their values are attained, and (ii) the presence of competing motives. Hence, it is not necessarily the case that people who support the welfare state do so, for example, due to holding egalitarian values. In contrast to previous research, which has been quite unsuccessful in confirming direct relationships between institutions and attitudes, the results in this thesis suggest that there are indeed clear and consistent macro-micro relationships, but that these are more complex. Rather, it is in the interplay between values, attitudes and institutions that this relationship can be found.<br>Forskningen kring välfärdsstatsattityder och dess determinanter är omfattande, men väldigt få studier intresserar sig för hur grundläggande mänskliga värderingar påverkar dessa attityder.

Consequently, numerous approaches have been applied to understand who the entrepreneur is, his personality and behaviors. The main schools debating about this topic are the psychological traits school and the processes or behaviors school. However, the academy still lacks an agreed upon definition of the individual triggering the entrepreneurial phenomenon. Consequently, in an attempt to clarify this issue, this research suggests a new approach for understanding the individual of the entrepreneur on the basis of Schwartz’s personal values. Hence the objective of this study is to understand the values profile of social and commercial entrepreneurs in order to determine their similarities which guide their common entrepreneurial behavior and their differences which generate their different entrepreneurial focus, one aiming at social and the other at private wealth. For this purpose, the shorter version of Schwartz’s Profile Values Questionnaire was administered to a sample of 44 social entrepreneurs and 71 commercial entrepreneurs. The first proposition of this study was that social and commercial entrepreneurs possess a value profile. The second was that this value profile was determined by the anxiety organizing principle with preponderance of the anxiety-free over the anxiety-based values. The third proposition was that commercial as well as social entrepreneurs attribute highest importance for the self-direction value. The fourth proposition was that social entrepreneurs give higher importance than commercial entrepreneurs for benevolence and universalism values because these values presume appreciation of others, preservation and enhancement of the welfare of 'in group' people as well as of any living being in general. The results of descriptive analyses and hypotheses testing point to the validation of all propositions except the last one. Nevertheless, although not statistically confirming the last proposition, a slight tendency of social entrepreneurs giving higher importance than commercial entrepreneurs for the selftranscendence values was identified. Consequently, other studies with larger and randomized samples should be conducted to better clarify this topic.<br>O empreendedor tem intrigado acadêmicos há anos.

Abstract:
The school has a political and democratic mandate to teach and establish basic democratic values that our society is based in the teaching of students. The purpose of this study is to investigate how a number of four teachers interpret the meaning of democratic values. What is their personal inter-pretations which according to previous research proved to be open to interpretation? The aim was to see if there was a noticeable difference in the teachers interpretations towards each other. Another aim of the study was to gain insight on how teachers believe that they conduct their lessons to teach and establish basic democratic values. Are there any links to previous research that says that the teaching of fundamental values are not equal? The study's questions will therefore examine: ・ What do four different teachers consider the meaning of the basic democratic values? ・How do the teachers in the social studies field do systematically for the students to aquire basic democratic values and knowledge? ・ What are the differences in their interpretations of the democratic meaning of values and way of conducting their teaching in this area? To get answers, qualitative methods have been used through interview. As a theoretical approach, Laclau and Mouffes approach of discourse analysis has also been used. The conclusions I reach in the analysis of my material shows that the four teachers had a variety towards each other in their interpretation in the meaning of the basic democratic values. As a conse-quence was the teachings in the fundamental values not equivalent because they dealt with different areas of the values in their respective teaching.

Weinberg, James. "The personal side of politics : a study of basic human values in the UK parliament." Thesis, University of Sheffield, 2018. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/21673/.

Full text
Abstract:
This doctoral thesis examines the personalities of national politicians and is the first of its kind to apply the socio-psychological model of Basic Human Values (Schwartz, 1994) to Members of the UK Parliament. In doing so this thesis departs from the dominant traditions of Historical Institutionalism and, more recently, interpretivism in UK parliamentary studies. Interdisciplinary insights and methods from political psychology are combined to examine a number of important questions and findings relevant to wider pools of literature on anti-politics, political behaviour and representation. Specifically, I investigate 'who' enters elite politics, 'how' they behave in elected office, and 'why' public perceptions of politicians' psychological characteristics might be inaccurate. To answer these questions, I collect and analyse original survey data on the basic values, ideologies, attitudes and demographics of a sample of 106 Members of Parliament (MPs). These surveys are supported by in-depth semi-structured interviews. Firstly, these data are analysed alongside comparative data on the public from the 7th round of the European Social Survey to reveal a process of psychological self-selection to elite politics in the UK. In demonstrating that certain citizens with particular value profiles are more likely to enter elected office, these results make an original contribution to prior research into political ambition and recruitment. Secondly, I build a theoretically-driven model of parliamentary behaviour and test it empirically to show that MPs' basic values impact significantly upon legislative behaviours as diverse as voting, asking written questions, and signing Early Day Motions. Thirdly, the results of a conjoint experiment with a large sample of the British public are presented to assess the relative importance of various attitudinal and demographic variables, alongside basic values, for voters’ ideal-type politicians. Compared with self-report data on UK MPs, this conjoint experiment reveals a 'perception gap' whereby citizens get MPs with the psychological characteristics they desire but do not perceive this congruence.

Abstract:
&lt;p&gt;Japan's construction industry, there is a demand for technology that simplifies the fabrication, construction, and maintenance management of steel bridges. This study aims to improve the efficiency of steel bridge construction by introducing metal 3D printers and to simplify maintenance management by using stainless steel, which has higher corrosion resistance than conventional structural steel. The basic performance of stainless-steel plates fabricated by 3D printers was investigated through experiments. The experimental results showed that the 3Dprinted stainless- steel plates satisfied the specified values for steel materials used in Japanese steel road bridges. These findings suggest that 3D printing technology can be effectively applied to the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of steel bridges, providing a promising alternative to traditional methods.&lt;/p&gt;

Full text
Abstract:
"Gamete donation is a procedure that includes the “reproductive others” in the process of conception. There are numerous dilemmas related to donation while various European countries have different ways of solving them. In the Republic of Serbia, only voluntary gamete donation is allowed, and donors can only be women and men from the general population, or women included in the In vitro fertilization process. The donors remain anonymous to the child which was conceived with their help. Overcoming infertility in this way usually includes building public awareness, especially when it is not a common practice in that society, and work should be done on forming positive attitudes towards the donation. Experience from other countries indicates that sperm donation usually does not represent a problem, but there is greater demand for egg cells than the existing supply, which is an additional reason for studying attitudes and planning appropriate campaigns. In this study, the attitudes of university students (N = 503; 206 young men, 297 young women) towards gamete donation were analyzed, as were the differences in the extent of basic values about acceptance of the donation. We used several questions to determine the attitudes towards donations, including those specially designed for this research and the Schwartz Personal Values Questionnaire (Schwartz, 2002). University students are young people who represent not only potential donors but also the everyday environment of couples who require a donation. As highly educated individuals, they have the potential to be attitude holders. The results have shown generally positive attitudes of the students towards donation. The differences in certain basic values among the participants who support donation were obtained only for the sub-sample of young men: a more pronounced Openness to change and Self-transcendence. The authors present some specific ideas regarding the promotion of gamete donation in general – for example, we believe that in the supporting campaign for donation it would be more appropriate to use Self-transcendence than Openness to change."

Abstract:
The author characterized the Ukrainian national values, national interests and national goals. It is emphasized that national values are conceptual, ideological bases, consolidating factors, important life guidelines on the way to effective protection of Ukraine from Russian aggression and building a democratic, united Ukrainian state. Author analyzes the functioning of the mass media in the context of educational propaganda of individual, social and state values, the dominant core of which are patriotism, human rights and freedoms, social justice, material and spiritual wealth of Ukrainians, natural resources, morality, peace, religiosity, benevolence, national security, constitutional order. These key national values are a strong moral and civic core, a life-giving element, a self-affirming synergy, which on the basis of homogeneity binds the current Ukrainian society with the ancestors and their centuries-old material and spiritual heritage. Attention is focused on the fact that the current problem of building the Ukrainian state and protecting it from the brutal Moscow invaders is directly dependent on the awareness of all citizens of the essence of national values, national interests, national goals and filling them with the meaning of life, charitable socio-political life. It is emphasized that the missionary vocation of journalists to orient readers and listeners to the meaningful choice of basic national values, on the basis of which Ukrainian citizens, regardless of nationality together they will overcome the external Moscow and internal aggression of the pro-Russian fifth column, achieve peace, return the Ukrainian territories seized by the Kremlin imperialists and, in agreement will build Ukrainian Ukraine.

Yip, Eugene, and Gerald Lüttgen. Concurrency, Shared Variables, Compositionality : An Unlikely Triple. Otto-Friedrich-Universität, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.20378/irb-97637.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper reports our experiences with extending Interface Automaton (IA) with shared variables by lifting IA’s intuitive notion of refinement and compositionality to shared variables. Although there are existing works that introduce shared variables to IA, they typically support a very restricted notion of sharing, e.g., the value of a shared variable is only defined for the duration of an atomic operation, with no ability to persist values for subsequent operations. When attempting to formulate the semantics of shared variables that could persist their values across operations, we encountered numerous challenges when defining a notion of refinement that respected compositionality. We conjecture that, even for a basic notion of variable persistence, concurrent shared variable accesses between automata create a tight data dependency that prevents a compositional reasoning. We discuss the generality of this negative result in relation to other concurrency theories.

Ivanyshyn, Petro. BASIC CONCEPTS OF YEVHEN MALANIUK’S NATIONAL-PHILOSOPHICAL INTERPRETATION: ESEISTIC DISCOURSE. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11070.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of the research is to outline the structure of the main methodological ideas within the frames of interpretive thinking in the essay of the famous Vistnyk’s writer, critic and essayist Yevhen Malaniuk. Considering the purpose and tasks of the studio, an interdisciplinary methodological base, related to the author’s “national approach”, has been worked out. The epistemological potential of national philosophy as a philosophy of national existence, national science as a theory of nation, hermeneutics as a theory and practice of interpretation and post-colonialism as interpretation of cultural phenomena from the standpoint of anti- and post-imperial consciousness are used in the work. The scientific novelty is that on the basis of the previous hermeneutic generalization and definition of national-existential methodology, a propaedeutic outlining of the structure of national-philosophical concepts within the frames of the essayistic interpretation of reality in Ye. Malaniuk is proposed. In the methodological sense, the writer’s essayism is structured by such concepts as nation-centrism, idealism, voluntarism, heroism, and can be considered as one of the variants (close by the experiences of D. Dontsov, Yu. Lypa, M. Mukhyn, etc.) of the Vistnyk’s national-philosophical (national-existential, nationalistic or nation-centric) hermeneutics, that is, the way of understanding, which the author by himself outlined as a “national approach”. The support of Ye. Malaniuk as a culture-philosopher and exegete on the eternal nation-centric values and criteria in his essayistic studies makes his reflections not only historically interesting, but also theoretically productive, classically important for the development of modern Ukrainian hermeneutics and humanities in general.

Carranza, Rafael, Mauricio De Rosa, and Ignacio Flores. Wealth Inequality in Latin America. Inter-American Development Bank, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0004945.

Full text
Abstract:
How much wealth has accumulated in the region and how is it distributed across households? Despite being widely recognized for its extreme income inequality, reliable data on wealth is scarce, partial and oftentimes contradictory, making it difficult to answer these basic questions. In this study, we estimate aggregates based on macroeconomic data, and inequality based on recently available surveys. We contrast our results with the literature, with a handful of state-of-the-art estimates from administrative sources, and with more available but extrapolated estimates from Credit Suisse and wid.world. Considering all the evidence, we distinguish reliable facts from what can only be conjectured or speculated. We find that aggregate wealth increased over two decades in four countries, now ranging close to 3.5 the national income for market value estimates and 5-6 times at book values. We also find that wealth inequality is amongst the highest in the world were it can be measured. Given data limitations, one can only speculate about aggregates in opaque countries and about inequality trends in any country in the region. Although recent research in the developed world has focused in combining data sources to better understand wealth, the region lags behind and urgently requires more and better public information.

Full text
Abstract:
The ConTrust research initiative challenges the conventional wisdom that trust is antithetical to conflict. Instead, ConTrust posits that under certain social and institutional conditions, trust can also emerge in and through conflict. To lay the groundwork for this agenda, this working paper develops a basic concept of trust that is the foundation for more specific conceptions of trust. Furthermore, it distinguishes between justified and unjustified trust, introduces a notion of social integration through conflict, highlights the role of uncertainty and crisis in contemporary trust dynamics, and outlines avenues for studying trust formation in contexts of political, socio-economic, epistemic, and security conflict. Through this work, ConTrust seeks to advance our understanding of how modern pluralistic societies (and international orders) generate trust in the relative absence of shared norms and values, and to provide guidance on how conflict can be organized and shaped in ways that are productive of trust.
