The Basmachi movement was the struggle of Turkestan indigenous population against the Soviet power, and it remains one of the least studied aspects of the Civil War. Soviet historians explained the reasons behind the movement and its mass character as follows: the local tribal aristocracy, young bourgeoisie, and imams strove to maintain their status, wealth, and privileges. It is necessary to clarify why the term Basmachi was preferred. Asis known, the term Basmachi is a definition taken from Soviet literature and means“invader”, “gangster”. Such a definition both denies the essence of the movementand underestimates its impact. Taraori Basmati and Basmati-370, two important paddy varieties of Haryana State, were studied for their differences in relation to physical characteristics. Higher 1000 kernel weight was recorded in Taraori Basmati (23.1g). Length of kernel was more than 7.5mm for both varieties.
