Abstract:

The monograph is devoted to current trends in international taxation, aimed at developing a methodology for countering the erosion of the tax base, as well as practical issues of its application in modern Russia and abroad. The results of the BEPS Project initiated by the G20 member countries under the leadership of the OECD were evaluated. The analysis of the Russian rules for determining transfer prices for intangible assets in the light of the OECD recommendations issued under the BEPS Project is carried out. The article summarizes the legal approaches to countering the abuse of Double Taxation Agreements abroad and shows their development in Russia. The economic analysis of the scale and consequences of the erosion of the national tax base is made. An assessment of the potential fiscal and economic effects of the creation of special administrative regions in the Kaliningrad Region and Primorsky Krai was carried out. Recommendations on the strategy of the long-term tax policy of the Russian Federation in the field of international taxation have been developed. It is addressed to economists, lawyers, managers, managers and specialists of federal government bodies, as well as teachers, postgraduates and students of economic and law universities and faculties, students of the professional development system.

The monograph is devoted to the generalization of the factors of railway transportation in Western Siberia and their influence on the formation of the experience of saving transportation resources in 1965-1991. The basic factors are considered such as the natural conditions and the production apparatus of the region, the development of a program-oriented approach to the development of the territory and the formation of the material base of railway transport in its space. These components are considered as historical challenges for the design of labor initiatives "from below". These initiatives are classified into three groups: speeding up the turnover of wagons, using the locomotive fleet, and saving fuel, energy, and other" variable " resources of the railway transportation process. The issues are considered taking into account the trends of fading opportunities for the Soviet model of system-wide development. Abstract:

Early European accounts document the presence of Labrador Inuit in northern Newfoundland, the Strait of Belle Isle, and the northeastern Gulf of St. Lawrence in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Controversy over the interpretation of the historical record and the extent and nature of Southern Inuit presence has been clarified by recent archaeological research on the Quebec Lower North shore, which demonstrates a series of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century winter sod-house villages in every major region from Brador to Petit Mécatina. House types are similar to those found on the Central Labrador coast, and all contain much Basque and other European material culture, indicating extensive trade contacts rather than the spoils of sporadic raids. The Hare Harbor Inuit settlement at Petit Mécatina is found at a Basque/European whaling and fishing station and appears to have been a European-Inuit enterprise facilitated by the Little Ice Age expansion of Arctic marine mammals.

Building from experiences in the Minneapolis-St. Paul headquarters economy, this chapter advances the building blocks for what creates and sustains a headquarters economy. Managers possess skills that are applicable across a variety of industries. Companies often benefit when they hire managers with different experiences and skills than those existing in the company. This benefit is especially salient when companies hire managerial talent from outside of their industry. Regions with a diverse headquarters base and little outward migration of managerial talent magnify this beneficial effect of cross-industry managerial mobility. Together, managers, mobility, and migration can create a virtuous cycle that strengthens local companies and draws talent to a region.

Abstract:

This collective monograph is a comprehensive study of the causes, evolution and outcomes of complex processes in the contemporary history of the countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe, and aims in particular to identify common and special characteristics in their socio-economic and political development. The authors base their work on documentary evidence; both published and unpublished archival materials reveal the specifics of the development of the political landscapes in these countries. They highlight models combining both European and nationally oriented (and even nationalist) components of the political spheres of particular countries; identify markers which allow the stage of completion (or incompletion) of the establishment of a new political system to be estimated; and present analyses of the processes of internal political struggle, which has often taken on ruthless forms. The analysis of regional and country-specific documentary materials illustrates that the gap in the development of the region with “old Europe” in general has not yet been overcome: in the post-Socialist period, the situation of the region being “ownerless” and “abandoned”, characteristic of the period between the two world wars, is reoccurring. The authors conclude that during the period from the late twentieth to the early twenty-first centuries, the region was quite clearly divided into two parts: Central (the Visegrad Four) and South-Eastern (the Balkans) Europe. The authors explore the prevailing trends in the political development of Hungary and Poland related to the leadership of nationally and religiously oriented parties; in the Czech Republic and Slovakia the pendulum-like change in power of the left and right-wing parties; and in Bulgaria and Romania the domestic political processes permanently in crisis. The authors pay special attention to the contradictory nature of the political evolution of the states that emerged in the space of the former Yugoslavia. For the first time, Greece and Turkey are included in the context of a regional-wide study. The contributors present optimal or resembling transformational models, which can serve as a prototype for shaping the political landscape of other countries in the world. The monograph substantiates the urgency of the new approach needed to study the history and current state of the region and its countries, taking into account the challenges of the time, which require strengthening national and state identity. The research also offered prognostic characteristics of transformational changes in the region, the Visegrad Four, and the Balkans.

Peru’s Zona de Vilcabamba was the scene of the post-Conquest 35-year struggle by the Inca to remain free of Spanish domination, and the base from which they fought to regain their empire. This chapter discusses that conflict and the physical and historical setting in which it occurred, including Pachacuti’s 1440 conquest of the region, his royal estate at Vitcos, Manco Inca’s retreat there from Spanish pursuit in 1537, and his withdrawal to Vilcabamba, in the jungles of Espíritu Pampa in 1539. Also discussed are the burning of the sun temple at Ñusta Ispanan in 1570, the death of Titu Cusi and martyrdom of Padre Diego Ortiz in 1571, Viceroy Francisco de Toledo’s conquest of the province, and the capture and execution of Tupac Amaru Inca in 1572. Finally, the modern explorations of Hiram Bingham, Gene Savoy, and the Lees and the scholarly work of John Hemming are noted.

Simon’s dynamism failed just as his crusade reached its zenith in the acquisition of the county of Toulouse. Though Simon’s introduction of French feudal patterns and antiheretical policies stood in stark contrast to the government of his Raymondine predecessors, their dynastic eminence offered more incentive to maintain iconographic continuity and cultivate ties with traditionally favoured abbeys. As in the viscounties, cultivation of local nobles, appointment of French followers to key posts, preservation of urban liberties, and patronage of Cistercians and bishops all undergirded Simon’s regime. But even with this broad base of support, Simon was finally undone by the southern resurgence that focused on the fatal exception to his characteristic urban lenience: Toulouse. His inability to accommodate the independence of his ostensible capital allowed it to serve as a rallying point for the disaffected aristocracy of the region, and it was before its walls that Simon met his bloody end.

This chapter identifies five unique insights from this research that advance current discourse about regional economic development, and the role that businesses play in shaping it. First, there are regional advantages that stem from a talent base whose skills are applicable across many industries or sectors of the economy. Second, different factors play prominent roles in attracting and retaining talent. For managerial and administrative talent, economic opportunities play the primary role for talent attraction; quality of life factors play a more important role for talent retention. Third, talent is often more geographically bound than the companies that employ this talent. Fourth, hidden headquarters comprise a significant amount of headquarters activity. Fifth, there is often a difference in the quality of life factors that play an important role in attracting or retaining talent, compared to a region’s quality of life strengths.

En la actualidad hemos reconocido el peso de la acción humana en la transformación reciente del planeta lo que hemos llamado cambio climático y el Antropoceno, por lo tanto, resulta fundamental tener una visión de la historia que reconozca que el pasado humano está entremezclado con el devenir del mundo natural. Un pasado vivo. Dos siglos de historia ambiental latinoamericana recogen los avances hechos en ese sentido para entender los acelerados cambios producidos en los últimos dos siglos en América Latina y el Caribe. Cada capítulo presenta una visión general, desde un ángulo ambiental, de la historia de algunos países, regiones y biomas, como México, el Caribe, las selvas y las ciudades, o sobre temas transversales a toda la región, como la minería, la ganadería, la conservación de la naturaleza y la ciencia. Sus autores son trece de los más reconocidos investigadores en este campo. Además, esta obra cuenta con una introducción que propone cuatro grandes temas de la historia ambiental de la región y un contrapunto final que la ubica en el contexto global. Un pasado vivo es indicativo de la madurez que ha alcanzado esta área de la historia y servirá de base para estudios futuros.

The development of Inuit culture out of an ancestral Thule culture base has been a central research question in Arctic archaeology for over a century. Archaeologists were intrigued by the fact that the Inuit lifeways of the ethnographic present, while highly variable, had seemingly developed from a relatively uniform Thule cultural base. However, the past few decades have seen relatively little research directed toward this important issue. This chapter explores the history of research into the origins of Central Arctic Inuit cultures, as well as some of the explanations that have been advanced. It ends by suggesting that Resilience Theory may be a useful theoretical approach for framing the Thule-Inuit transformation in this region.

Para impulsar la transformación digital de los sistemas de salud es de principal importancia que los países de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) cuenten con sólidos marcos normativos que faciliten la implementación y el uso de soluciones digitales. En este estudio se identifican los aspectos claves que deben incluir los marcos normativos para impulsar la adopción de sistemas de Historias Clínicas Electrónicas (HCE) y se analizan los avances y espacios de mejora en materia legal en 26 países de la región. Con base en el análisis de 115 textos legales, el estudio aborda los progresos y la tareas pendientes de la región en materia de legislación para la implementación de HCE, protección de datos, actuar de los profesionales de la salud, derechos de los pacientes, interoperabilidad y uso de estándares.

La incorporación de harina de grillo, como ingrediente en la cocina, trae diversos beneficios nutricionales y ambientales. Este ingrediente innovador se valora especialmente por su notorio contenido de proteínas y aminoácidos esenciales; además, su producción tiene un impacto ambiental mínimo, por lo que se considera una fuente proteica sostenible. Los desafíos ambientales que se viven en la actualidad y las proyecciones de crecimiento de la población plantean diversas problemáticas y, a su vez, impulsan la creación de estrategias innovadoras y disruptivas orientadas a mitigar las consecuencias negativas de un sistema de producción de alimentos no sostenible. Por tales razones, en este libro se plantea la utilización de la harina de grillo en la cocina de Cundinamarca, un departamento de Colombia, ubicado en el centro del país, en la región andina, que se caracteriza por su biodiversidad y condiciones ambientales que favorecen la actividad agrícola. En efecto, en las regiones con climas cálidos de este departamento se encuentra la especie de grillo Gryllodes sigillatus (Walker) con base en la cual en la actualidad se está produciendo harina para uso alimentario, un ingrediente versátil que puede ser incluido en diversas preparaciones gastronómicas. El presente libro cuenta con un amplio recetario en el que el lector descubrirá cómo la harina de grillo puede aportar al desarrollo de una alimentación saludable y sostenible.

This chapter presents an analysis of changing job and pay structures in the UK, constructing for this purpose a novel dataset covering each year from 1975 to 2015 linking different datasets and ensuring that key variables such as occupation are captured on as consistent a basis as possible. This provides the information base required to investigate job polarization in a much more disaggregated fashion than previously possible, allowing important distinctions to be made by gender, sector, and region, between full- versus part-time workers, and across birth-cohorts. The analyses are thus able to reveal the differing implications of long-term trends in job structures and pay for these different groups, and bring out what the varying patterns reveal about the underlying processes at work in the labour market.
