Seasonal abundance and distribution of Zooplankton were studied at three stations in the Shatt Al-Basrah canal, during the period from 2 April 2011 to 2 January 2012. The lowest value of zooplankton density recorded was 5 ind./m3 at station one in winter 2012, and the highest was 621200 ind./m3 at station three in spring 2011. This paper examines the asymmetric effects of benchmark oil prices on the prices of the three major Iraqi oil blends (Basrah Light, Basrah Heavy and Kirkuk) using Kilian and Vigfusson's (2011) non-linear VAR specification. Although infestation with Echinococcus granulosus is common in Iraq, brain hydatid cysts are rare. The first case since the establishment of the neurosurgical unit in Basrah (population 1.5 million) four years ago is reported. It was successfully treated by operation. The two points emphasized are the rarity of this problem, and the technical steps to maintain the integrity of the cyst during surgery. This seems to be the most important factor in preventing recurrence, which contributes largely to the outcome after surgery.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate morphological differences between cultured and wild common carp, Cyprinus carpio L. Wild specimens were collected from fishers operating in the waters of the Shatt al-Arab River, Basrah, Iraq, while cultured specimens were obtained from the Aquaculture Unit of the Marine Science Centre, University of Basrah, Basrah, Iraq.
