Full textThe modulation of the biological processes underlying bone remodeling by low-level laser irradiation is a highly promising strategy because it is easy to administrate, noninvasive and safe. Several parameters of laser irradiation have been proposed and this makes it difficult to obtain unambiguous clinical guidelines. The aim of the present study was to in vitro apply a wide range of doses in order to identify the laser settings responsible for biostimulatory or bioinhibitory effects on Saos-2 human osteoblast-like cells by means of morphology, viability, DNA synthesis analyses and release of relevant key molecules affecting bone remodeling and neoangiogenesis. The maximally biostimulating doses were also used in an in vitro scratch-wound healing assay in order to analyze the influence of laser irradiation on the migration and proliferation of osteoblast-like cells and to evaluate modulation by laser irradiation of cell viability, DNA synthesis, differential gene expression and release of bone metabolism related proteins. The viability of Saos-2 cells was modulated in a dose-dependent manner by a single GaAlAs laser irradiation (915 nm) for 10, 48, 96, 193 e 482 seconds reaching doses of 1, 5, 10, 20 e 50 J∕cm2, respectively. A dose of 10 J∕cm2 induced a biostimulatory cell response whereas doses of 20 or 50 J∕cm2 determined a bioinhibitory effect. After a single irradiation for 0, 48, 96 e 144 seconds reaching doses of 0, 5, 10, e 15 J∕cm2, respectively, laser significantly improved wound healing compared with non-irradiated controls. The 15 J∕cm2 laser-irradiated group showed a tendency toward increased wound area compared with that of other laser-treated groups at each experimental time, suggesting a decreased healing ability for this dose. Laser irradiation at 915 nm promoted wound healing mainly through stimulation of cell migration and collagen deposition by osteoblasts.

Full textThis work concerns the uplift and exhumation history of Simplon and Brenner Alpine regions by means of low-temperature thermochronological analysis (apatite FT and U-Th/He) and modeling. Simplon and Brenner normal faults border deep crustal sectors belonging to the Penninic domain: Lepontine dome core complex for Simplon; ophiolitic units and Penninic basement and covers units for Brenner. Data were collected from literature for the Simplon, whereas a surface and subsurface sampling was provided for the Brenner. In the latter case the realization of the Brenner tunnel (BBT) allowed, for the first time, to collect underground apatite FT and (U-Th)/He data for the western Tauern window. Modeling was made using: a finite elements code that computes the solution of the heat diffusion equation for a time varying topography, Pecube (whose code was modified during this thesis in order to take into account underground data; an inversion procedure by the Neighbourhood Algorithm (NA), with the aim to obtain the most plausible morphotectonic scenario. Results for the Simplon region show: an hypothetic change of the tectonic style of the Simplon fault from rolling hinge to low angle detachment at 6.5 Ma, and the cessation of its activity at 3 Ma; relief construction until 5.5 Ma followed by dismantle between 5.5 and 0 Ma, during the climatic changes of Messinian age and related to glacial cycles onset on the northern hemisphere; increment of exhumation activity (0–0.6 mm/yr to 0.6–1.2 mm/yr) when glaciations on the northern hemisphere began. Brenner results show: major fault (1.3 mm/yr) activity of the Brenner line as well as a major exhumation (1 - 2 mm/yr) before 10 Ma; fault activity (0.1 mm/yr) and exhumation (0.1–0.3 mm/yr) decrease between 10 and 0 Ma; no exhumation rate increase or evident topographic changes during the glacial cycles.

Full textLike c. A. Diop's scientific works devoted to the reconstruction of african peoples'history, the thesis defends the reality of close and multi-faceted historical relations, a common cultural foundation and continuum and genetic linguistic relationship between the basa people, a bantu group of southern cameroon, and the ancient pharaonic civilization of egypt and nubia, in terms of common homeland rather than diffusion. As a result of a multi-disciplinary approach, this argument is based on a large body of concordant proof and evidence such as striking cultural and linguistic features provided by various sources, ethnonymy, toponymy, oral traditions, comparative mythology, history, comparative linguistics, archaeology, saharan prehistorical art, textual criticism and egyptology. The study is divided into three parts. Firstly, the history and geography of contacts which reveal populations on the move, both within the general framework of the peopling of the nile valley and subsaharan africa and the special one of bantu migrations. Secondly, comparative linguistics where the author, first of all, avails himself of the writings of some precursors, linguists and egyptologists (k. Meinhof, j. Capart, r. Cottevieille-giraudet, h. P. Blok, f. Daumas, etc. ), but hardly mentioned in literature, to justify the comparison between ancient egyptian and modern african languages and then, makes clear his method, quite different from th. Obenga's and j. Greenberg's, which combines direct and indirect comparison (through proto-bantu data) while establishing regular correspondences from a large corpus consisting of basic, cultural and special vocabularies. The convincing results achieved (both lexical and grammatical) turn out to be far more important than those usually referred to for a close egyptian-semitic relationship, and consequently question the pertinence of the so-called afro-asiatic family as well as the alleged absence of vowels in hieroglyphic writing. Thirdly, civilization features and ways of thinking (techniques, institutions, leisure, etc. ) where numerous parallels are drawn and close relationships put forward (common queen's name in meroitic and basa : kandake / kindak, iron metallurgy, health care, political and legal systems, coronation rites, cosmovision, with characteristic symbolic figures such as the human-headed bird and the falcon-headed lion

Full textThe Basaa-Bantu, population of south Cameroon, have had in turn, a traditional conception of disease -cure, a western and modern conception, to which was added a Christian conception. After 100 years of Christianism, these populations associate on the one hand the traditional medicine with modern medicine and demonstrate, on the other hand, signs of a real adaptation of the evangelical message to the extent that they can, from these various conceptions of a new examination of the scriptures and the tradition of church, propose to the universal church a semantic transition from the sacrament of the sick to the sacrament of recovery. A transition which is adaptable to the African conception of disease and cure. This recovery should be taken less in magical sense then biblical. In effect, the cure propose by Jesus Christ to man of all time and all places, is a total cure of man. It comprises a spiritual dimension which can bring about a bodily cure with a view to the realization of its salvation. A dimension in reality, very close to the African conception

Full textThe objective of the research conducted by the candidate was from the beginning the proposal for an analysis of the population and of the cultural dynamics of the Neolithic age in Central Puglia. Such aspiration came from the fact that the object of this research was, in recent decades, much less investigated than the surrounding areas, such as the plain of Tavoliere and the Salento. This lack of information made it required a review of research and studies, through the construction of an Atlas of population, in order to bridge (or at least start doing it) this vacuum. In fact, an assessment of population of Neolithic age in southeastern Italy cannot be regarded as distinct cultural areas and geographically limited. Although there are important archaeological facies differentiation, it is only through a global vision and articulated with the information that you can describe processes and dynamics that have led to a population so impressive, since its expansion to sudden collapse, causing the transformation of the Apulian landscape. The choice to look at the complexity of this side of the Neolithic Puglia binds culturally, geographically, as well as looking great already made on the spread of the Neolithic in the plain of Tavoliere of Puglia, only in European colonization of capillary ...This has made it possible to draw a global framework, which currently excludes only the Salento peninsula, Neolithic Peopling of Northern and Central Puglia. The features that differentiate the two complexes, are closely linked to both the habitat settlement as insediamentali, choices in the region concerned is organized at different levels (the Adriatic coastal area facing the ancient riverbeds, torrentizi area, offshoots of the Murge plateau), the cultural forms, as handicraft production and especially aspects related to rituals of frequentation natural caves.

Energia Firm. Abstract: Conflicts often arise for reservoirs with multiple water uses, such as power generation, combined with flood control. While high reservoir water levels are desired to store water for power generation, low levels at the beginning of the flood season may reduce flood damages. As most hydropower reservoirs are not explicitly designed for flood control, operation planning usually seeks to minimize this conflict with careful allocation of appropriate space in the reservoirs for flood control or for power generation. This research aims to compare benefits provided by a reservoir either for flood control or for power generation. The evaluation of these benefits was done using Monte Carlo simulations with synthetic series of natural inflows. The synthetic series were generated using inflow statistics from 1955 to 2012 at Cahora Bassa dam. It was concluded that generally the consideration of spaces at the reservoir for flood control associated to diferent return periods results in a reduction of guaranteed energy. Using a constant average head and a return period of Tr.C=100 years for flood control and Tr.E=50 years for dependable energy at Cahora Bassa reservoir, it was observed an increase in energy loss for a decrease of restriction flow. The loss in dependably energy was 4 avg MW for a restricion flow of 15000 m3.s-1 and 196 avg MW for a restricion flow of 8000 m3.s-1. The loss of guaranteed energy is reduced by consideration of seasonality. For Tr.C=100 years and Tr.E=50 years result a loss of 2 avg MW for restricion flow of 15000 m3.s-1 and 152 avg MW for a restricion flow of the 8000 m3.s-1. The consideration of variable net head combined with seasonality result in an adicional reduction of the guaranteed energy loss. Key words: Flood Control. Firme Energy. Curve Regularization.

Full textThis study examines the existing relationship between social identity and political systems in the principal cities of the southern Rhone valley, in particular A vignon and Arles, from the years 1120-1130 to the middle of the XlIIth century. Most of the analysis concentrates around four different complementary research orientations: the study of the documentary practicles, the observation to the protagonists of communal rise in the cities (starting from their strategies to assertion and their economic bases), the examination of the institutional profiles of the communes, and finally the development of the political languages, in their different variations (social, political, legal), as well as representation of the capacity, "propaganda" and political identity. All that was examined by multiplying the specialists in comparative literature points of view of other similar documentary landscapes, in particular the Italian communes
