Grossi, Gabriel. "La basse continue dans l'oeuvre poétique de Jean-Michel Maulpoix." Thesis, Nice, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015NICE2001.
Full textAuthor of many collections of poems since 1978, Jean-Michel Maulpoix is one of the most important poets of his generation. He is also known as a theoretician. His poetry is influenced by our times, and it shares its doubts and uneasiness. But the poet also gives an universal dimension to his poems, even if all marks of subjectivity are not erased. The poems often seem to search an ideal of appeasement. This dissertation analyses both themes and style : it aims at showing that this tension between uneasiness and appeasement is very important in many collections of poems by Jean-Michel Maulpoix, in their themes, form, enunciation, and rhythm. It uses the musical concepts of “basso ostinato” and “basso continuo”, not to suggest a confusion between poetry and music, but as metaphors of the obstinacy of the writing itself. The poems by Jean-Michel Maulpoix prefer continuity to ruptures, a kind of continuity that does not exclude variation, even into the rhythm of sentences and poems

Full textBetween 1750 and 1800, the emergence and adoption of new musical genres and stylistic models radically change the accompaniment practice on keyboard instruments in France. Figured bass becomes scarce and is gradually replaced by written-out keyboard parts in vocal music. The first part of this thesis defines the role of the accompanist and the evolution of the notation. The second part is devoted to the instructions given in methods and treatises and establishes links with foreign schools and the following century. Finally, the third part reconsiders the question of the accompaniment in the sonatas for keyboard and violin. The comparison between theoretical writings and scores finds a direct application in the continuo and keyboard accompaniment practice, and leads to the proposition of realisation models in accordance with the characteristics observed in the musical works of that period

Full textNicolaus Bruhns (1665-1697) was an organist at the Marienkirche in Husum (Schleswig-Holstein), and Kapellmeister to the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf. If we own today only a handful of his pieces for organ (four praeludia and a chorale-fantasia), we can appreciate the cleverness of this author through his production of sacred works, twelve cantatas where the energy which appears is similar to that of his professor Dietrich Buxtehude. With the concern to better define the stakes of creative identity, we shall put forward a contradictory approach based on two opposite conceptions of the work of art : it is in essence the product of a culture (since it is linked to the artistic context which precedes it, according to the elements which constitute it and which are easily identifiable in the works of the past, any work can be perceived and thought as a synthesis of various models, a form of cultural achievement), but also the result of individuality (a work of art is a unique construction, independent from any other production according to the factors of unity which structure it ; any work may then be perceived and thought as an autonomous entity). This study will enable us to bring to light a basis of the psychic activity : the appraisal of the distance between the fixed and the changing

Full textThe power consumption of embedded microprocessors has significantly increased due to the considerable number of new functions which they should manage currently. Furthermore, the present reduction of the lithographical dimensions and the augment of the number of transistor and their switching frequency are new constraints to consider from the point of view of power supply requirements. Thus, current generation of microprocessors needs considerable supply currents with very low voltages (around 1V). Moreover, the required slew-rates are also important (500A/µs). Then, to achieve these strict power supply levels, the main design trend is to place the power converter as close as possible to the load to minimize the transmission losses and to optimize the power matching. This concept is know as Point-of-Load converters which allows designers to obtain distributed power supply architectures using one or more intermediate common voltage bus supplying several ICs. The aim of this dissertation is to study these DC/DC PoL converters and their association to increase the current supply levels delivered to the charge. Hence, our PoL converters are mainly based on those used as voltage regulators modules (VRMs) owning high-current, low-voltage and high switching frequency. These VRMs serves as power supply systems oriented to embedded microprocessors like those we can find inside PC motherboards. Referring VRMs, interleaved or multiphase architectures are preferred to achieve these strict supply powers. Traditionally, this kind of power supplies owns analog control. However, new microprocessors generation demands faster performances and more accurate and tight regulations. Thus, the present trend is to replace the classical analog control by a digital control system more flexible and performing likewise. Then, this dissertation takes part in the LISPA regional project where the LAAS and Freescale Semiconductor collaborate to develop new power supply systems for embedded power microprocessors

Full textThe current industrial world is facing frequent changes, which are sometimes abrupt. This is due to the scientific and technical progresses and increasingly challenging needs of customers. Therefore, to deal with these disruptions and ensure competitiveness, manufacturers are developing methods to control and improve their processes for greater performance. Lean management is one of such methods that has proven its effectiveness in controlling and improving process (especially in manufacturing process). However, the Product Development Process (PDP) remains one of the most important industrial challenges, since it is where PDP actors take the major decisions related to strategy, organization, delay, development and manufacturing costs. That is why methods to control and improve this process have to be developed. Nevertheless, the PDP complexity makes direct application of existing Lean methods difficult. Thus, this research project aims at proposing a methodology for controlling and improving the PDP based on a Lean approach in order to manage the creation and the transformation of the value in this process. This methodology adapts especially the first two principles of Lean, namely the definition of value and its mapping in the given process. We so propose a framework for defining value that can be adapted to the evolutions of the company’s strategy. This definition tries to exhaustively take into account all the PDP stakeholders, so that the value is shared by everyone. We also propose a value mapping tool for the PDP, which complies with PDP specificities and proposed value definition. All these research works have been tested in the industrial partner, Exxelia Technologies

Full textMalagasy teaching got a new turn when educative reforms were instaurated in 1976. So teachers’ functions were newly defined, especially those related to the basic education (the first cycle of educative system). The reforms implicated important mutation in the teachers’ practices and attitudes: they could no more distribute on knowledges to passive pupils, but they have to initiate children to their future rolls in the society. They must become advisers, work organizers, animators with their pupils as with the community. But how to make teachers conscientious of their new duties and responsibilities? The "continuous formation" was instituted and imposed to all of basic education teachers. Institutionally, it was conceived as pedagogical supports and it had also to favor individual changes. The problematic that this study broaches is the following: the institution assigned the teachers to form but could that obligation permit really changes? The searcher tried to describe and to analyze different phenomenon’s which appear about this experience, more particularly those which concerned psychological, psychosociological and institutional questions. That is way two theoretical approaches were adopted here: "institutional and psychosociological". This work results in some conclusions which can't be generalized for it concerns exclusively teachers working in a precise region of Madagascar; however it allows elucidating some main questions about this formation model

Full textThe instructions of the European Union pilot the R&D in the automotive industry regarding the use of lightweight materials which aims at reducing fuel consumption and emission of exhaust gases. The objective is to develop steels of density reduced by at least 10% (ρmax ≈ 7g/cm3). Iron aluminum alloys display promising physical and mechanical properties but they often exhibit surface defects, referred to as roping, appearing after the deep drawing process. This study was carried out to better understand the conditions of recrystallization during hot rolling to control the microstructure and thereby limit these defects.During hot deformation, it is generally agreed that geometric dynamic recrystallization (GDRX) and continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) operate in ferritic alloys with high stacking fault energy. In this study, the existence of a transition between CDRX and the mechanism of discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX) has been brought into evidence in the temperature range 900 1100°C and strain rate range 0.1-50s-1. Post-dynamic recrystallization was also studied to observe the evolution of microstructure during holding temperatures.A model formerly developed for the CDRX of aluminum was then used to simulate a rolling pass. Comparison of computed and experimental results shows some differences but this model can reproduce microstructural changes qualitatively

Full textMost current embedded devices, such as smartphones, GPS or portable consoles, feature one speaker or more, those speakers being driven by an integrated audio amplifier. This type of amplifier must meet four specifications: an adequate audio quality, to be immune to system disturbances, low power consumption and the smallest silicon area. This work takes its origin from the creation of Primachip in May 2009 by Christian Dufaza and Hassan Ihs. The aim of this startup was to develop and sell an innovative audio class-D amplifier for mobile market: the digital class-D concept. A partnership with the IM2NP laboratory was decided to propose a PhD topic under CIFRE contract (PhD in an industrial environment), in order to study and improve the amplifier architecture. Its originality is in the partial feedback concept which applies to a loop made of a digital ΔΣ modulator driving the power stage, with an analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) in the feedback path. It makes it possible to achieve stability while offering an outstanding power supply rejection. An integrated prototype of the class-D amplifier was designed, fabricated and evaluated. A new continuous-time ΔΣ ADC has been added to enable the digital class-D loop to achieve performances superior or equal to state of the art. The circuit measurement results were encouraging, although not ideal. The analysis of the prototype errors was performed. The conclusions should allow the design of an integrated audio amplifier making the best of the digital class-D architecture

Full textThe thesis presents a study of the two-dimensional XY model exposed to such realistic conditions as the presence of lattice imperfections (nonmagnetic impurities) and lattice finiteness. Both features are typical for experimentally accessible magnetic materials and ask for theoretical description. We also have explored the low-temperature behaviour of a finite two-dimensional Heisenberg model and found behaviour similar to that of the 2D XY model. We have used both analytical and computer experiment approaches to tackle the problem. The essential output of the work consists of: (a) estimation of the non-universal exponent of the power law decay of the pair correlation function of a diluted 2D XY model at low temperature as a function of dilution, analytically in the spin-wave approximation, and in the Monte Carlo simulations using the Wolff algorithm; (b) analytical estimation of the corresponding exponent of the 2D Heisenberg model in the low-temperature limit for the finite lattice size and its comparison to the Monte Carlo simulations; (c) evaluation of the form of interaction between nonmagnetic impurities and topological defects within the Villain model as well as in the Kosterlitz-Thouless model, and analytical prediction of the critical temperature reduction made on the basis of this interaction; (d) Monte Carlo investigation of the form of the residual magnetization probability distribution in a finite system in presence of nonmagnetic disorder (dilution). We found all our analytical predictions in quite well agreement with the Monte Carlo simulation results as well as with other researches of the similar problems

The use of basso continuo in the performance of many late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century genres is well documented, yet the influence of this practice on the Lieder during that time has never been fully explored. This dissertation analyzes Lied accompaniments of the period in relation to the recommendations found in contemporary thorough bass treatises in order to demonstrate that continuo practice did have an effect both on what composers were writing and how the songs were being performed. The majority of written-out Lied accompaniments from the late eighteenth-century conform to the recommendations given by treatise authors on matters of texture, distribution of the notes between the hands, octave doublings, parallel intervals, embellishments, and relationship of the keyboard part to the solo line. Furthermore, figured basses were still printed in some songs into the early part of the nineteenth century. Well-known nineteenth-century Lied composers, such as Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Brahms also frequently use these simple, continuo-like keyboard parts, and incorporate common continuo techniques for filling out chords into their more complex accompaniments. The fact that continuo practice, a tradition in which improvisation played a large role, continued to have such a pervasive influence on the printed Lied suggests that additions and embellishments can be made to what is written on the page. Furthermore, evidence from secondary sources, statements by musicians of the period, and clues in the music itself confirm that composers did not always intend for performers to play exactly what is notated. In this dissertation, I argue that in many of these songs the musical score should be viewed as only a basic outline, which can then be adapted depending on the skill level of the performers, the available keyboard instruments, and the context of the performance. Principles from the continuo treatises serve as a guide for knowing what additions to make, and I offer suggestions of possible applications. Appendices detail the contents of 50 continuo treatises published between 1750 and 1810.

Full textMANETs represent a significant area of network research due to the many opportunities derived from the problematics and applications. The most recurring problematics are the mobility, the availability and also the limited resources. A well-known interest in networks and therefore in MANETs is to monitor properties of the network and nodes. The problematics of the MANETs can have a significant impact on the monitoring efforts. Mobility and availability can create incomplete results for the monitoring. The usual properties discussed in monitoring are simple ones, e.g., average CPU consumption, average bandwidth and so on. Moreover, the evolution of networks has led to an increasing need to examine more complex, dependent and intertwined behaviors. The literature states that accuracy of the approaches is not reliable and difficult to achieve due to the dynamic properties of the MANET. Therefore, we propose a decentralized and distributed monitoring architecture that rely on multiple points of observation. The decentralized approach combines gossip and hierarchical algorithms to provide an effective monitoring approach. Through extensive experimentation, we concluded that although we were able to achieve exceptional performance, network fragmentation still has a harsh impact on the approach. Trying to improve our approach, we proposed a distributed approach, relying on stronger bedrock to enhance the overall efficiency and accuracy. It provides a consensus mechanism that allows it to aggregate and provides a more meaningful and accurate result. We support our proposal with numerous mathematical definition that models local results for a single node and global results for the network. Our experiments were evaluated with an emulator built in-house that relies on Amazon Web Services, NS-3, Docker and GoLang with varying number of nodes, network size, network density, speed, mobility algorithms and timeouts. Through this emulator, we were able to analyze multiple aspects of the approaches by providing a repeatable, documented and accessible test beds. We obtained promising results for both approaches, but for the distributed approach, especially regarding accuracy

Full textThis Ph.D. thesis covers the production and characterization of gelatin-cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) bionanocomposite films intended for multifunctional food packaging. The up-scalability of the gelatin/CNCs films was attained by continuous casting and the rheological parameters of the film-forming solutions and drying temperature required to produce 12 m film/h were established. The continuous casting processing was proven to be advantageous when compared to the bench solution casting method. Tensile tests, thermogravimetric analysis, and water vapor permeability analysis showed that the continuously cast gelatin/CNCs films had exceptionally better performance than the films obtained by bench casting. The physical and structural properties of the gelatin/CNCs bionanocomposites as tailored by pH-dependent electrostatic interactions were investigated. The suitability of CNCs was successfully extended by functionalization with rosin (r-CNCs), thus giving rise to antimicrobial reinforcing agents. Tensile tests and antimicrobial analysis showed that r-CNCs served as bacterial nanofillers in gelatin-based films, which otherwise would suffer from limited physical and biological properties. Plant-derived tannic acid was successfully used as an antioxidant and bactericidal additive, as another perspective of extending the potential of the gelatin/CNCs films as a packaging material. Non-oxidized tannic acid favored non-covalent interactions and intermolecular connections between gelatin, CNCs, and tannic acid. These physico chemical interactions showed to have a greater influence on the antioxidant and physical properties of gelatin/CNCs/Tannic acid films. This thesis provides a comprehensive understanding of how CNCs can be explored to develop biodegradable films based on gelatin with enhanced properties or extra functionalities. A continuous solution casting was applied for scaling up the production of gelatin/CNCs-based films making them highly desirable for packaging applications

Full textThis study is a contribution to the experimental and analytical analysis of the behaviour of average speed impacts encountered during crash or collisions. An impact device (100 J), equipped with a crossbow propulsion system, allows clamped shipbuilding construction steel plate tests, in order to study, among other things, the influence of boundary conditions during this kind of impact. Consequently, a measure sensitive to small variations of boundary conditions is expected. Thanks to a spectral analysis, the losses of contact observed during the impact are related to the flexural waves which propagate in the plate. At the same time, a current numerical simulation (Johnson & Cook law) is developed with the commercial software LS-DYNA. Concerning the correlation with experimental results, the simulation limits are detailed and their origins investigated, particularly the sliding of the sample between the jaws. A new measure is then necessary and obtained by the conception of a force captor instrumented with strain gauges. This captor, contrary to ordinary sensors, does not need any signal filtering and allows a long period of measurement. The force has been validated for the study of boundary conditions and is more sensitive than other measures to small variations of the impacted sample's clamping pressure. For this study, it has been necessary to develop new sample geometry aiming at perfect clamping conditions

Full textFrom the study of a particular multifunctional composite structure, this thesis aims at analyzing the thermomechanical behavior and failure modes of a composite structure embedding electrical wires. Representative test specimens embedding flat electrical cables are manufactured and tested under various conditions. The influence of out-of-plane loadings, and especially of low energy impacts on the electro-mechanical functionality of the structure is then investigated with both experimental and numerical considerations. Post impact electrical tests such as resistance measurements and dielectric strength tests are carried out to investigate on the post-impact electrical performances of the structure. Then, resistive heating of the embedded electrical components combined to the thermal environment of an aerospace structure lead us to further investigate on the thermo-mechanical behaviour of such multi-layered multi-materials structures. Hence, a methodology using Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) testings is developed to characterize both the temperaturedependent stiffness of the constituents, and the resulting thermo-mechanical behaviour of the assembly. The main contribution of this work consists in determining electrical degradation and sizing criteria for the development of robust composite structures embedding electrical wires

Indeed, the complex shape, dexterity, and miniaturization ability of continuum robots can help solving intracorporeal navigation problems. Full textThe arrival on the market of GaN power transistors allow to increase the operating frequency of static converters. The direct consequence is the reduction of the dimensions of the passive components which leads to increase the converter power density. Inductors used for storage and filtering of electrical energy are very bulky components and occupy an important place in the converters. One solution for reducing the dimensions of these inductors is to increase the operating frequency of the static converters, made possible thanks to the GaN components. The work of this thesis is about the design and realization of energy storage inductor, made from printed circuit board (PCB) tracks and flexible magnetic materials for high frequency DC-DC converters based on GaN transistors. Flexible magnetic materials marketed in the form of sheets have magnetic characteristics suitable for high frequency applications. Also, they can be cut into different geometric shapes. As part of this thesis, we have proposed a design method for PCB inductors based on flexible materials for high frequency converters. It is based on an algorithm for optimizing the volume of the inductor taking into account the thermal issues of the magnetic material and the parasitic capacitances which appear at high frequencies. The designed inductor is then characterized in order to validate the proposed design tool. The last step is to integrate the obtained inductor in a synchronous Boost converter based on GaN transistors of 1MHz operating frequency to evaluate its electrical and thermal performances. In order to take into account finely the thermal constraints in the design of the inductor, improvements are proposed, based on the results of experimental validation

Full textThe goals of this thesis is to propose modelling and control solutions for the optimal energy management of a DC microgrid under constraints. The studied microgrid system includes electrical storage units (e.g., batteries, supercapacitors), renewable sources (e.g., solar panels) and loads (e.g., an electro-mechanical elevator system). These interconnected components are linked to a three phase electrical grid through a DC bus and associated DC/AC converters. The optimal energy management is usually formulated as an optimal control problem which takes into account the system dynamics, cost, constraints and reference profiles. An optimal energy management for the microgrid is challenging with respect to classical control theories. Needless to say, a DC microgrid is a complex system due to its heterogeneity, distributed nature (both spatial and in sampling time), nonlinearity of dynamics, multi-physic characteristics, the presence of constraints and uncertainties. Moreover, the power-preserving structure and the energy conservation of a microgrid are essential for ensuring a reliable operation. This challenges are tackled through the combined use of port-Hamiltonian formulations, differential flatness, and economic Model Predictive Control. The Port-Hamiltonian formalism allows to explicitly describe the power-preserving structure and the energy conservation of the microgrid and to connect different components of different physical natures through the same formalism. The strongly non-linear system is then translated into a flat representation. Taking into account differential flatness properties, reference profiles are generated such that the dissipated energy and various physical constraints are taken into account. Lastly, we minimize the purchasing/selling electricity cost within the microgrid using the economic Model Predictive Control with the Port-Hamiltonian formalism on graphs. The proposed control designs are validated through simulation results

Full textContinuous fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CFCCs) are an important class of materials for structural applications at elevated temperatures because of their improved flaw tolerance, large fracture resistance, improved toughness by crack deflection and crack bridging mechanism, low density and noncatastrophic mode of failure comparing with metallic materials. Fibers play a critical role in both the processing and performance of CFCCs. SiC-based fibers are considered leading candidate materials in the aerospace application, such as engine turbines. However, the major shortcoming of SiC-based fibers is their oxidative embrittlement and degradation, which is caused by the oxygen ingression from the micro cracks and interstitials in the composites, is the dominant life-limiting phenomenon of non-oxide composites. This study carried out with the financial supply of both Snecma Propulsion Solide and Agence De l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l’Energie has for objective to integrate SiC-based as reinforcement in CFCCs for civil aircraft engine application. In order to reach this objective, it is imperative to find a novel approach to diminish the oxygen ingression by developing protective fiber coatings

Full textThe research presented in this thesis concerns the development of self-organising map approaches based on mixture models which deal with different kinds of data : qualitative, mixed and sequential. For each type of data we propose an adapted unsupervised learning model. The first model, described in this work, is a new learning algorithm of topological map BeSOM (Bernoulli Self-Organizing Map) dedicated to binary data. Each map cell is associated with a Bernoulli distribution. In this model, the learning has the objective to estimate the density function presented as a mixture of densities. Each density is as well a mixture of Bernoulli distribution defined on a neighbourhood. The second model touches upon the problem of probability approaches for the mixeddata clustering (quantitative and qualitative). The model is inspired by previous workswhich define a distribution by a mixture of Bernoulli and Gaussian distributions. This approach gives a different dimension to topological map : it allows probability map interpretation and others the possibility to take advantage of local distribution associated with continuous and categorical variables. As for the third model presented in this thesis, it is a new Markov mixture model applied to treatment of the data structured in sequences. The approach that we propose is a generalisation of traditional Markov chains. There are two versions : the global approach, where topology is used implicitly, and the local approach where topology is used explicitly. The results obtained upon the validation of all the methods are encouragingand promising, both for classification and modelling
