Abstract:
Body mass index (BMI) is the most established indicator to assess nutritional status. The aim of the present study is to determine variation between Bhatra and Dhurwa women of Bastar, Chhattisgarh with respect to BMI and also to evaluate variation in magnitude of BMI in relation to socio-anthropometric determinants. Anthropometric data from290 Bhatra women and 207 Dhurwa women of reproductive age group were collected cross-sectionally and BMI is calculated in relation to the socio-economic status of tribal women. BMI is determined by measuring the weight and height of selected respondents by using standard techniques. Result reveals that Bhatra women are slightly heavier and taller than Dhurwa women. The mean BMI is found to be higher in Bhatra women (19.98± 0.15 Kg/M²) than Dhurwa women (19.70±0.18 Kg/M²). The mean values of mean BMI in relation to different socio-anthropometric determinants indicate state of normal nutrition in women of both tribal groups of Bastar except women of body weight ranged 30-41Kg., sitting height vertex ranged59-66cm and height vertex ranged 160-178cm. The present study reveals that the prevalence of chronic energy deficiency (CED) is higher in Dhurwa women (31.88%) than Bhatra women (27.58%). However BMI suggested that the prevalence of obesity in Bhatra women (3.45%) is higher than Dhurwa women (2.90%). The factors like age, menarcheal age, educational status, occupational status and different anthropometric determinants showed an impact over BMI magnitude among both tribal women of Bastar. However statistical analysis indicates non-significant intergroup differences among them except women of illiterate group, sitting height vertex ranged 59-66 cm and height vertex ranged 160-178 cm. Sources of mean BMI of various tribal women of India indicates that tribal women of Bastar are nutritionally better and show state of normal nutrition in comparison to them.

Abstract:
Abstract. Siregar M, Helmanto H, Rakhmawati SU. 2019. Vegetation analysis of tree communities at some forest patches in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 643-655. Deforestation has caused a decline in forest area in Indonesia. Now natural forests is left in the conservation areas while those outside conservation areas are narrow and fragmented. This study aims to analyze forest vegetation and conservation status of the species of trees in some forest patches in North Sulawesi. Diversity, structure and type of tree communities at five forest patches, namely in the villages of Bukaka, Garini and Lambak in East Bolaang Mongondow District, and Soyowan and Basaan villages in Southeast Minahasa District, North Sulawesi Province were studied using a point center quarter method. The total number of tree species (dbh ≥ 10 cm) across five patches is 84 species. The highest number of species is in Garini (37 species), followed by Lambak (25 species), Soyowan (19 species), Bukaka (10 species) and Basaan (7 species). The species diversity index also shows the same pattern with such species richness, but the dominance index demonstrates opposite trend. The highest evenness index (E) is found in Bukaka (E = 0.9524), followed by Soyowan (E = 0.9061), Garini (E = 0.7873), Basaan (E = 0.7809) and Lambak (E = 0.7099). The most important tree species based on the Species Important Value (SIV) in Bukaka is Ficus sp. (SIV = 52.17), in Garini is Octomeles sumatrana (SIV = 25.73), in Lambak is Boehmeria cylindrica (SIV = 65.03), both in Basaan and Soyowan is Dracontomelon dao with SIV of 96.87 and 46.46 respectively. The beta diversity analyzed based on species similarity index of Jaccard and Whittaker 's index shows a relatively large change in species composition from one location to another. The family of Moraceae, Malvaceae, Anacardiaceae, Annonaceae and Lauraceae are listed as the widest family with a relatively high population. The highest tree density is found in Bukaka (721 trees ha-1), followed by Lambak (482 trees ha-1), Basaan (439 trees ha-1), Garini (292 trees ha-1) and Soyowan (164 trees ha-1). The highest basal area is also found in Garini (53.59 m2 ha-1), followed by Basaan (51.62 m2 ha-1), Lambak (30.74 m2 ha-1), Soyowan (25.13 m2 ha-1) and Bukaka (20.98 m2 ha-1). The results of Cluster analysis using data of species abundance indicate that the five research locations tend to form two types of tree communities. The first community consists of Garini, Soyowan, Lambak and Bukaka, while the second community is represented only by Basaan.

Abstract:
Mining activities have several impacts on the environment. In our study, emphasis was given to assess biodiversity in one of the leading iron ore mining sites of Bailadila-Kirandul Iron Ore Mines (KIOM) of Dantewada District, South Bastar of Chhattisgarh. Habitat fragmentation, loss and deforestation are highly prevalent in the area. However, the study reveals high species richness of 110 and 253 plant species in core and buffer zone respectively. Canopy cover was found to be within 10 to 40% and in places in the buffer zone canopy cover with > 40% was recorded. Species diversity index indicates the instability of vegetation structure in the area with indices of 1.44 in core and 1.88 in buffer zone. Although species richness is high, about 10 floral species (7 herbs, 3 trees) are recorded under REET (Rare Endangered Extinct Threatened) species while locally endangered floral species are 6 and locally critically endangered are 4. Similarly, 208 faunal species belong to 10 faunal groups was recorded out of which 34 species are listed in different Schedules of Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Therefore, it is an urgent need for planning to undertake appropriate management strategies to conserve biodiversity in the area.

Abstract:
The investigations took place in the Samara Trans-Volga region in 2012–2015. Not only local genotypes and wild populations, but also high productive varieties adapted to different environmental conditions should be used as an initial material for breeding bastard alfalfa (Medicago varia L.) varieties with high productivity and resistance to the wide range of abiotic stresses. High productive stress-tolerant bastard alfalfa varieties from different ecological and geographical origins were studied: “Izumruda”, “Blagodat”, “Uralochka”, “Nahodka”, “Vega 87”, “Sarga”. Their cultivation area covers a significant number of the Russian Federation regions. The local variety “Kuybyshevskaya” was the standard. The productivity level of studied varieties mostly depended on abiotic factors (62.0%), less — on the genotype (23.0%), and genotype-environmental interaction (10.0%). According to the drought sensitivity index, some promising varieties were identified as a source of water stress resistance: “Nahodka”, “Sarga”, “Kuybyshevskaya”, “Uralochka”. “Izumruda” and “Vega 87” showed high ecological plasticity estimated by Eberhart&Russell method. The most promising varieties with high feed productivity were identified when assessing general combining ability: “Izumruda”, “Vega 87” and “Blagodat”. These varieties can be used to breed new genotypes of alfalfa via polycross.

Abstract:
The music of the Ganda mohoriya-s of Bastar (shawm and kettle drums) is made of series of tunes (not fixed in advance) dedicated to some deities and played in front of the mediums possessed by them. The musical structures of this repertoire could shed light on the organization of the local pantheon it serves: starting from this hypothesis, the musicological analysis eventually reveals the pointlessness and perhaps the impossibility of building music and god categories, since the system seems to follow a different logic. Yet the analysis of this fluid music and the problems it raises (identification, transcription, typology, etc. ) as well as its confrontation with the ethnological data allow us to draw tendencies and to bring out a continuum of oppositions characteristic of the cosmological, musical and social system. Reflecting the more globally hinduist India, this system should not be thought as a rigid structure made of fixed categories but rather as a hierarchical yet dynamic organization made of multiform elements moving -according to the context- between opposite but not necessarily exclusive poles. As much as talks often turn contradictory, the flexibility of the musical structure makes it difficult to grasp. Like the pantheon, the music takes shape and is experienced in the very moment of the ritual. The meaning of this ritual music is thus to be sought in the ritual itself, through the chronological analysis of one particular ritual and its interactions: the central part of this dissertation

Abstract:
The research project was finalized to develop an innovative decision support system based on key performance indicators for the choice among process alternatives. In particular, the project was focused on the definition of indicators able to support decisions in the debottlenecking of a process plant. Two indicators that allow evaluating the need and the potentialities for debottlenecking, identifying the causes of production losses and the utilisation of the equipment, were developed. The practical value and the potentialities of such indicators were evaluated analyzing the section of a production process of a high molecular weight organic substance. As a following step, the issue of deciding among process alternatives for debottlenecking was afforded. A methodology based on sustainability indicators was applied to select the best alternative. The methodology, that allows comparing the alternatives through the analysis of environmental, social and economic impacts, was further developed within the present study. Two area hazard indicators aiming at the assessment of the impacts of fugitive emissions were developed to integrate these aspects in the sustainability analysis of process alternatives. To increase the accuracy in the quantifications of these impacts, a new predictive model, based on available data in design phase, considering the different categories of emission sources, the mechanism of losses, and the maintenance, was developed to estimate the fugitive emissions in a process plant. The comparison between the experimental measurements of fugitive emissions rate in a process plant and the model results confirmed that this new predictive model was needed for an adequate comparison of the process alternatives, because the existing predictive models overestimate the real emission rate. Finally applying the indicators on a real process plant it was confirmed that these indicators are very important to simplify the decisional process, because they provide accurate indications based on a limited number of information.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Landsat imagery has been used successfully to assess burn severity and monitor post-fire forest structure in a variety of ecosystems, but to date there are few documented studies on its application in the eastern deciduous forests of the eastern United States. The occurrence of a wildfire in the Daniel Boone National Forest in2010 provided a rare opportunity for research into the use of Landsat data for assessing burn severity and its ecological effects. We used differenced normalized burn ratio (∆NBR) to quantify burn severity. The ∆NBR based burn severity classification had 70% agreement with a qualitative ground-based burn severity assessment. We also examined the relationship between the presence of an invasive species (Paulownia tomentosa), and our assessment of burn severity, where we found a weak but statistically significant relationship (adj R2 0.13, p<0.0001). We also examined the relationship between the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and forest structure measurements. The relationship between NDVI and basal area was strongly and significantly related (adj R2 0.41, p<0.0001). The relationship of NDVI with stem density was weak but significant (adj R2 0.23. p=0.004). These results indicate that data from Landsat imagery have great potential for quantifying burn severity, identifying potential hotspots for invasive species, and assessing post fire forest structure in the eastern deciduous forest.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a common cause of bacterial meningitis in areas with high HIV prevalence and its diagnosis often is delayed in industrialized nations. Children (particularly infants) and immunocompromised persons are at higher risk of developing TB meningitis. Lymphocytic meningitis, high CSF protein, and (in children) frequently an abnormal chest radiograph should raise clinician index of suspicion for TB meningitis. Neuroimaging may show hydrocephalus, basilar leptomeningeal enhancement, ischemia, and/or tuberculomas. Prompt recognition and initiation of antituberculous antibiotics and corticosteroids can decrease morbidity and mortality.

Abstract:
Thrombin-induced stimulation of human platelets is accompanied by a dramatic increase in cytoplasmic calcium concentrations followed by a slow decrease. These changes are detected with indo 1. They are extremely rapid and are maximimal by 1015 seconds. Suspension studies, which reflect an average value over 3 × 107 cells/ml, indicate a thrombin dose-dependent increase in cytoplasmic calcium. However, flow cytometry indicates that subpopulations of cells are responding differently. The responses of these populations seem to be dependent on thrombin concentration. A maximal overall response is found when more than 50 % of the cells respond. This may explain multiple stimulations of the same suspension of cells at low thrombin dosesElevated extracellular Ca++ increases the maximal cytoplasmic response and significantly retards its subsequent decrease. When extracellular Ca++ is removed via addition of EGTA just before stimulation, the initial response is halved and the subsequent slow decrease is more marked and returns to lower (near-basal) levels. Intracellular Ca++ can be chelated with s - (0-am inophenoxy) - e thane-N, N, N',N'-tetraacet ic acid (BAPTA), which has a twofold greater affinity far Ca++ than does indo, but which does not fluoresce (at indo sensitive wavelengths) upon binding of Ca++. Cells loaded with both indo and BAPTA exhibit no rise in cytosolic Ca++ or altered membrane potential when stimulated with αthrombin, unlike cells loaded with indo alone. When Ca++ (2 mM) is added back to the extracellular buffer, these cells will take up the Ca++ at a constant rate as seen by a rise in indo fluorescence. When cytosolic Ca levels reach those of the resting platelets loaded with indo alone, these cells recover the αthrombin-indue ed Ca response of control platelets. However, they no longer depolarize partially under these same Ca++ replenished conditions. This implies that some of the Ca++ required for the platelet thrombin response comes from non-replenishable internal stores.

Abstract:
Uremic patients have a hemorrhagic tendency, often with prolonged bleeding times and abnormalities of platelet function in vitro. Whether these defects result from plasma factors, abnormalities in platelet surface receptors, or intracellular mediators is unknown. Accordingly, blood was obtained from 16 patients with severe uremia (BUN >90), and platelets were washed, loaded with aequorin or indo-1, gel-filtered, and resuspended in either plasma or buffer. Of the 16 patients, 4 had template bleeding times greater than 12 minutes, but platelet aggregation in plasma was not consistently impaired. However, the rise in cytoplasmic [Ca++] in response to the Ca++-ionophore A23187 or ADP in aequorin-loaded platelets from the 4 patients with long bleeding times was much lower than in uremic patients with normal bleejljLng times or in normal volunteers. The reduced [Ca++] response was associated with decreased aggregation of gel-filtered platelets in buffer. Prolonged bleeding time was less consistently correlated with decreased responses to epinephrine or arachidonate. Suspending washed aequorin-loaded uremic platelets in normal plasma for 10-20 min did not reverse the decreased agonist-induced rise in [Ca++]; platelets from a normal donor resuspended in uremic pla^iya responded normally. The agonist-induced rise in [Ca++] shown by indo-1 was not abnormal in patients with prolonged bleeding times; however, uremic patients generally had higher indo-l-indicated basal platelet cytoplasmic [Ca++] than normal. We conclude that the hemorrhagic tendency in some patients with uremia (|s associated with abnormal intracellular platelet [Ca++] regulation marked by elevated resting [Ca++] and a decreased rise in cytoplasmic [Ca++] in response to certain agonists; this latter abnormality appears to be correlated with prolonged bleeding times.

Abstract:
The effects of a single oral administration of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA, 500 mg), indomethacin (Indo, 50 mg) and sodium salicylate (SA, 400 mg) to healthy volunteers on platelet formation of 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE) were evaluated. Blood was collected before, 2, 6 and 24 hours after drug administrations. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) samples were stimulated with 20 μg/ml collagen and 12-HETE levels were determined by selective ion monitoring. The effects of ASA on the same parameter were also evaluated in vitro in PRP and in washed platelet (WP) samples in the absence and in the presence of platelet poor plasma (PPP, 25-100%) or bovine serum albumin (BSA, 10-40 mg/ml). In subjects who ingested ASA, the formation of 12-HETE in PRP stimulated with collagen was significantly inhibited 2 and 6 hours after the drug administration. At 24 h 12-HETE synthesis tended to return toward basal values. In contrast the administration of a single dose of Indo or of SA did not significantly affect 12-HETE synthesis by stimulated PRP. ASA (3 mM) added in vitro inhibited 12-HETE formation in PRP but not in WP. In addition ASA inhibited 12-HETE synthesis in washed platelets resuspended either in PPP (25-100 %) or in BSA (10-40 mg/ml). It is concluded ASA, but not Indo or SA, orally administered to normal subjects inhibits 12-HETE synthesis in collagen stimulated PRP. The results obtained in vitro suggest that albumin and/or some albumin component may be responsible for the inhibitory effect of ASA on platelet 12-HETE syntesis.

Abstract:
Platelet activating factor (PAF) is a naturally occurring phospholipid with a wide spectrum of biological activities. Although PAF has been ascribed a potential role in various conditions including inflammation, asthma, glomerulonephritis and thrombosis, its precise function in physiologic/pathophysiologic processes remains unclear. The introduction of selective PAF receptor antagonists could represent a useful tool to extend our knowledge of the role of this mediator in health and disease. We have investigated the efficacy and tolerability of (RS)-2-methoxy-3-(octadecylcarbomoyloxy)propy1 2-(3-thiazolio)-ethyIphosphate (CV-3988, Takeda Chem. Ind), a selective PAF antagonist with structural analogies with PAF, after intravenous infusion in man in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The compound, in doses from 750 to 2,000 pg/kg, significantly reduced platelet sensitivity to PAF. The threshold aggregating concentration (TAC) of PAF was defined as the minimal concentration causing an irreversible aggregation with a maximal amplitude of at least 50% of the difference in light transmission between platelet rich plasma and platelet poor plasma. It increased in a dose-dependent manner reaching 3.6 times the basal TAC (p<0.0005) at the end and 2.60 times the basal TAC (p<0.0005) 4 hours after infusion of the highest dose. The TAC of PAF returned to the basal value within 24 hours after the end of the infusion.CV-3988 did not cause major side effects nor changes in blood pressure, pulse or respiratory rate. However, small but clinically insignificant changes in plasma haemoglobin and serum haptoglobin were seen at the end and four hours after the end of the infusion, indicating a slight haemolysis probably by high local concentrations at the infusion site. Our results indicate that, when adequate infusion volumes and infusion rates are used, CV-3988 can be safely administered to man and should be useful in elucidating the role of PAF in health and disease.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is the rational management of forest ecosystems for sustainable conservation of floristic biodiversity. Two types of analysis are carried out: structural analysis and analysis of the main species. A total of 22 families were identified, divided among 32 species. The dominant woody species are Quercus suber and Quercus canariensis. Fagaceae is the most represented family. The average values of species richness and Shannon diversity index are 4 ± 1.8 and 0.9 ± 0.30 species/plot respectively. The average density of woody species in the Oueld Bechih forest was 158 ± 28 tree/ha with an average basal area of 32.67 ± 0.74m²/ha. The height structure shows that trees in height classes is ≥ 6 has very high density, evidence of almost no natural regeneration. The total structure indicates that larger trees are more abundant. In effect, this work provides a database for the forest, but it represents only one facet to be considered in protecting and restoring it.

Abstract:
The analysis and implementation of modern treatments for the patients diagnosed with osteoporosis, degenerative rheumatic affections and peripheral circulatory disorders have become a healthy priority for the society. These treatments have the goal to raise the bone mineral density of the skeleton, reducing joints pain and inflammation while improving and maintaining joints function. This paper presents a conservative treatment of patients from Recovery Clinical Hospital of Felix Spa, diagnosed with degenerative and rheumatoid affections. The treatment is complex and involves balneal-physical-kinetic recovery therapy that must be periodical repeated at every six months to perform. Ankylosing spondylitis was been evaluated by BASFI-BASDAI scores, while the gonarthrosis with Artroflex by SF-36 of quality life scale and Lequesne index. In addition, a vibration treatment combined with balneal-conservative treatment was been proposed to reduce the therapy time and improved the quality live of patients. The vibration system comprises a vibration bed with adjusting control of signal by a digital frequency convertor, and a command panel system for measuring and processing of data. Because the vibration trial is in incipient experiment stage, it was been applied first on Wistar rats, due to increase the calcium mass of bones. The results of all treatments were emphasized the efficiency of balneal cure in rheumatic affections.

Abstract:
"The structure of various stands, defined as the diversity of trees in the stands, can be an indication of overall biodiversity and habitat suitability, be useful in predicting stand growth and provide stand details for forest inventories. In an effort to find sustainable resource management strategies, a study was conducted on the structural and ecological characteristics of stands in Chettaba forest (Algeria). In this study, six diversity indices were used to characterize the horizontal and spatial distribution of individuals in multi-species stands, using four plots, located in the Chettaba forest (East-North Algeria). The results obtained allowed us to note that P2 and P3 present similar average densities (600 feet/ha), the plots P1 and P4 present low average densities (250 feet/ha and 350 feet/ha). The average DBH values vary from 25.65 cm for the P2 stand to 30.61 cm for the P1 stand. The average basal area varied between 33.73 m²/ha (P3) and 18.92 m²/ha (P1). The Shannon and Weaver index reached its maximum in plot 4 with 8 species. The study allowed us to evaluate the floristic diversity of the forest. Moreover, it indicated the need for its integral protection for its dynamics towards a dense forest vegetation."

Abstract:
Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial celebrates the lives of the Lincoln family including the final resting place of Abraham’s mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Lincoln’s childhood in Indiana was a formative time in the life our 16th president. When the Lincoln family arrived in Indiana, the property was covered in the oak-hickory forest type. They cleared land to create their homestead and farm. Later, designers of the memorial felt that it was important to restore woodlands to the site. The woodlands would help visitors visualize the challenges the Lincoln family faced in establishing and maintaining their homestead. Some stands of woodland may have remained, but significant restoration efforts included extensive tree planting. The Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Network began monitoring the woodland in 2011 with repeat visits every four years. These monitoring efforts provide a window into the composition and structure of the wood-lands. We measure both overstory trees and the ground flora within four permanently located plots. At these permanent plots, we record each species, foliar cover estimates of ground flora, diameter at breast height of midstory and overstory trees, and tree regeneration frequency (tree seedlings and saplings). The forest species composition was relatively consistent over the three monitoring events. Climatic conditions measured by the Palmer Drought Severity Index indicated mild to wet conditions over the monitoring record. Canopy closure continued to indicate a forest structure with a closed canopy. Large trees (>45 cm DBH) comprised the greatest amount of tree basal area. Sugar maple was observed to have the greatest basal area and density of the 23 tree species observed. The oaks characteristic of the early woodlands were present, but less dominant. Although one hickory species was present, it was in very low abundance. Of the 17 tree species recorded in the regeneration layer, three species were most abundant through time: sugar maple (Acer saccharum), red bud (Cercis canadensis), and ash (Fraxinus sp.). Ash recruitment seemed to increase over prior years and maple saplings transitioned to larger size classes. Ground flora diversity was similar through time, but alpha and gamma diversity were slightly greater in 2019. Percent cover by plant guild varied through time with native woody plants and forbs having the greatest abundance. Nonnative plants were also an important part of the ground flora composition. Common periwinkle (Vinca minor) and Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) continued to be the most abundant nonnative species, but these two species were less abundant in 2019 than 2011. Unvegetated ground cover was high (mean = 95%) and increased by 17% since 2011. Bare ground increased from less than 1% in 2011 to 9% in 2019, but other ground cover elements were similar to prior years. In 2019, we quantified observer error by double sampling two plots within three of the monitoring sites. We found total pseudoturnover to be about 29% (i.e., 29% of the species records differed between observers due to observer error). This 29% pseudoturnover rate was almost 50% greater than our goal of 20% pseudoturnover. The majority of the error was attributed to observers overlooking species. Plot frame relocation error likely contributed as well but we were unable to separate it from overlooking error with our design.
