In situazioni di emergenza, con il paziente sintomatico, il trattamento della tachicardia mediata da PM è molto semplice. I dispositivi moderni hanno sistemi avanzati di protezione dagli stimoli elettromagnetici ambientali, come telefoni cellulari, strumenti dentali ed elettrostimolatori muscolari, tuttavia un magnete sistemato sulla cute in corrispondenza del generatore, può indurre temporaneamente una stimolazione asincrona fino al momento in cui non sarà risolta la situazione clinica, oppure fino a quando non sarà possibile riprogrammare il dispositivo, in caso di malfunzionamento dello stesso. In generale, l’applicazione del magnete produce una stimolazione asincrona in tutti i pacemaker, se questo non dovesse accadere e specificatamente non si verificasse nessuna modificazione del tracciato ECG, il PM potrebbe essere stato programmato per ignorare il magnete (molto raro), potrebbe avere la batteria scarica o il campo magnetico potrebbe non raggiunge il dispositivo con sufficiente intensità. Tutti i pm rispondono all’applicazione del magnete passando alla modalità asincrona con il ritardo atrio-ventricolare programmato dal costruttore e con una frequenza che dipende anch’essa dalle impostazioni del fabbricante oltre che dallo stato della batteria.

Il colloquio individuale di orientamento si configura come un percorso che lo studente, tradizionale e non, intraprende dal momento in cui incontra un docente nella fase di accoglienza fino all'ultimo dei colloqui che realizza prima del conseguimento della certificazione finale. Il percorso è segnato da colloqui ciclici, svolti con docenti diversi e nei vari momenti che attraversano il processo di orientamento del singolo studente. Ogni colloquio, o meglio ogni "batteria" di colloqui, si inserisce in momenti specifici della vita accademica, personale e professionale della persona. Ognuna di queste "batterie" di colloqui ha propri obiettivi e risultati attesi, volti a consentire allo studente di conseguire i suoi obiettivi di orientamento nel quadro dei contenuti core del CdS-L19. Lo studio che il contributo presenta articola i risultati conseguiti dagli studenti in quattro tappe attraverso cui si sviluppa il processo di orientamento: esplicitazione della domanda di orientamento da parte dello studente; la motivazione e la retention dello studente; la costruzione di una risposta di orientamento pertinente da parte del docente; la valutazione dei progressi realizzati.

Abstract:
Backgrounds: The relationship between linguistic difficulties and cognitive impairments in children with developmental language disorders (DLDs) is receiving growing interest in international research. Executive functions (EF) appear to be weak in these children. The current investigation aims at exploring the relationship between difficulties in two components of EF (i.e., updating and inhibition) and the linguistic and narrative skills of 16 DLD preschoolers matched with 24 typically developing peers. Methods: Updating skills were tested by administering the forward and backward digit recall subtests of the Wechsler Scales, while children’s inhibition abilities were assessed by completion of Developmental Neuropsychological Assessment (NEPSY-II) inhibition tasks. Information on the linguistic skills of the participants was collected through a set of subtests included in the Batteria per la Valutazione del Linguaggio in bambini dai 4 ai 12 anni (Batteria per la Valutazione del Linguaggio; BVL_4-12), assessing articulatory and phonological discrimination skills, lexical production/comprehension, grammatical production/comprehension, and narrative production skills. Results: Findings revealed that DLD children performed significantly lower than their peers on both updating and inhibitory tasks. Linguistic difficulties were found in the DLD group on articulatory/phonological skills, grammatical production/comprehension, and lexical informativeness on narrative production. Measures of EF correlated with linguistic and narrative measures. Conclusion: The current study confirms a significant association between DLD’s performances on EF and displayed linguistic skills, suggesting the need to include the assessment of executive functions to target early intervention rehabilitation programs for children with DLDs.

In particolare, partendo dal concetto di Product-Service System (PSS), dove il servizio assume un ruolo almeno paritario rispetto alla componente prodotto, e grazie anche all'analisi di alcuni casi aziendali, sono stati descritti i principali elementi che compongono l'attuale PSS dell'auto elettrica: il sistema legato all'auto e alla batteria, quello connesso all'energia e alla ricarica, quello relativo alle infrastrutture pubbliche e private e, infine, quello associato alla cosiddetta auto navigation e, in generale, all'esperienza di consumo. Infine, rispetto al PSS dell'auto elettrica, sono stati descritti i fattori che dovrebbero favorirne l'affermazione.

Objects: This study aimed to evaluate the Executive Function (EF) domains in a group of profoundly deaf children treated with cochlear implant (CI) in comparison to normal hearing (NH) children. The secondary aim was to evaluate the influence exerted by the age at cochlear implant activation on EFs. Materials and Methods: 32 children were enrolled into two groups: group A of 17 CI users with a mean age of 8.78 years and group B of 15 NH subjects with a mean age of 7.99 years (SD + 2.3). All subjects were tested using the following tests: the subtests for working memory of the neuropsychological evaluation battery for the developmental age (Batteria di valutazione neuropsicologica per l’età evolutive), inhibition and control of the impulsive response—CAF, and the tower of London test. Results: No children with CIs scored within the normal range in the tests administered for the evaluation of EF domains. The same scores were significantly lower when compared with scores obtained by NH children. Children with younger age at CI activation showed better executive performances in planning, working memory (backward digit span), and cognitive flexibility (categorical fluency). Conclusion: The results of this study highlight that cochlear implantation plays a role in improving hearing and consequently influences the development of EFs in deaf children.

Obiettivi di questa ricerca sono presentare due diverse modalitŕ di intervento educativo in cardiologia riabilitativa (CR) e valutarne l'efficacia in termini di miglioramento dello stato psicologico dei pazienti. Presso l'Istituto Cardiovascolare di Camogli sono stati reclutati 153 pazienti: 113 hanno partecipato ad un intervento di gruppo chiuso strutturato (gruppo di controllo) costituito da tre incontri con numero fisso di pazienti in cui si trattavano tematiche fondamentali in CR; gli altri 40 pazienti hanno partecipato al gruppo aperto semistrutturato (gruppo sperimentale) nato per meglio venire incontro alle esigenze dei pazienti ricoverati, che ha previsto almeno tre incontri per ciascun paziente. Tutti i pazienti sono stati valutati, all'ingresso e alle dimissioni, con una batteria di questionari indaganti diverse caratteristiche psicologiche. I risultati mostrano come le due modalitŕ portino a esiti positivi sostanzialmente sovrapponibili nel breve termine. Se tali riscontri fossero confermati su gruppi piů ampi, si potrebbero configurare per l'operatore importanti alternative organizzative, senza che l'intervento ne risenta in efficacia.

La fibromialgia è una sindrome dal dolore cronico diffuso caratterizzata da numerosi sin-tomi. Ad un campione di 233 soggetti fibromialgici (M = 45.7, DS = 11.7) residenti in Italia e prevalentemente donne (97.4% femmine e 2.6% maschi) è stata somministrata una batteria di test comprendente: un questionario socioanagrafico costruito ad hoc, un test per valutazione dei tratti di personalità (PID-5-BF) e uno per gli stili di coping (COPE). Dai risultati è emerso un profilo di personalità caratterizzato prevalentemente da Affettività Negativa, Distacco e Psicoticismo. I valori medi degli stili di coping non si discostano signifi-cativamente da quelli del campione normativo e, la presenza di specifici tratti di personalità ri-sulta predire determinate strategie di coping. In conclusione, la conoscenza del profilo personologico, delle modalità di fronteggiare la situazione stressante e il tipo di relazione che intercorre fra i due costrutti rappresenta un'utile informazione in termini clinici, affinché anche la figura dello psicologo possa giocare un ruolo essenziale nell'intervento multidisciplinare al paziente affetto da fibromialgia.

Abstract The effect of tapioca starch (TS) on the pasting and thermal properties of wheat flour (WF)-based batter and on the quality of fried, battered chicken wingsticks was investigated. A dry mix (91.4% WF/TS flour blend (100/0, 75/25 and 50/50), 3.1% leavening agent and 5.5% salt) was mixed with water (1:1.3) for batter preparation. The peak viscosity of the diluted batters increased with increasing TS replacement whereas the peak time and viscosity after holding at 95°C for 4 min decreased. Substitution of TS in the WF-based batter decreased pickup but increased the onset and conclusion temperatures from differential scanning calorimetry. A lower oil content was observed in the pre-fried crusts containing TS which was expected from the gelatinization behaviour of the batters. The TS substitution enhanced both the lightness and crispness of the final fried crust and the liking scores of the fried, battered chicken wingsticks. The results suggest that TS substitution modified the gelatinization behaviour of the WF-based batters affecting the oil uptake and quality in the fried battered products.

Il presente studio esplora le relazioni fra competenza emotiva, coesione di gruppo e soddisfazione percepita della partecipazione a gruppi di auto mutuo aiuto, nell'ipotesi che la competenza emotiva aumenti la coesione di gruppo, e che la coesione agisca come un mediatore della relazione fra competenza emotiva e soddisfazione. Un questionario č stato somministrato a 89 (62F) partecipanti di gruppi di auto mutuo aiuto con diverse finalitŕ (problemi familiari, elaborazione del lutto, dipendenze, salute mentale, disabilitŕ). Il questionario comprende la versione italiana della Emotional Intelligence Assessment; due strumenti tratti dalla batteria di test "Ass3D" di Zammuner e Kafetsios, che rilevano la regolazione delle emozioni e la capacitŕ nel riconoscimento facciale; il GEQ, che misura la coesione sociale e sul compito; infine, un feeling thermometer che misura il grado di soddisfazione. Un'analisi strutturale mostra che l'intelligenza emotiva promuove la coesione e che, a sua volta, la coesione sociale incrementa la soddisfazione della partecipazione al gruppo, confermandone il ruolo di mediazione. Le implicazioni per incoraggiare la partecipazione in gruppi di auto mutuo aiuto e i possibili sviluppi di ricerca sono discusse.

This study compared responses of masters and doctoral level counseling students to two domestic violence scenarios. Participants read a two paragraph description of a battering incident involving either a heterosexual or lesbian couple and then gave their impressions via a series of open and closed ended questions. Scenarios were identical save the manipulation of sexual partner as same or opposite sex. Experience and/or education with battered and/or gay/lesbian clients is also examined. Results indicated that subjects perceived the heterosexual battering incident as more violent than the lesbian battering incident and would be more likely to charge the male batterer than the female batterer with assault. Differences in treatment recommendations were made according to sexual orientation of the victim. Less than half of the respondents had coursework or practical experience pertaining to domestic violence and/or gay/lesbian concerns.

Nel presente lavoro si intendono applicare metodi esplorativi di analisi multivariata per giungere a tipologizzazioni del territorio (alle diverse scale) significative a livello geografico. Dopo aver individuato un'opportuna "batteria" di indicatori e aver definito la scala di risoluzione dei dati (problema-chiave in questo tipo di analisi), si č analizzato inizialmente l'intero territorio nazionale, giungendo dapprima a una visione di estrema sintesi (che peraltro consente di isolare tutte le piů significative concentrazioni urbane); con procedimento a ritroso si č quindi segmentato il gruppo volta a volta piů numeroso, al fine di cogliere meglio le caratteristiche differenziali delle varie aree (caratteristiche, č bene sottolinearlo, che, con sfumature diverse valgono per tutto il territorio nazionale) e si č pervenuti, in definitiva, a 8 gruppi significativi. Per capire se e quanto una scala di lettura a livello cosě elevato potesse essere utile e riproducibile a scale piů ridotte, analoga procedura č stata applicata al caso di Roma, dove si sono riscontrate, da un lato, la soliditŕ e validitŕ del percorso di analisi proposto, dall'altro significativi scostamenti rispetto a modi piů "ordinari" di classificazione e analisi del territorio romano.

Numerosi studi hanno evidenziato che varie abilitŕ cognitive e metacognitive sono implicate nella comprensione del testo, come ad esempio la capacitŕ di fare inferenze o la capacitŕ di monitorare il livello di comprensione. La ricerca si č proposta di verificare se le abilitŕ di comprensione possano essere distinte in "aspetti di base" (vale a dire aspetti legati al testo come individuare un personaggio, la sequenza degli eventi ecc.) e "aspetti complessi" (che si riferiscono ad abilitŕ cognitive e metacognitive come ad esempio utilizzare strategie flessibili di comprensione in relazione al tipo di testo); inoltre č stata analizzata la relazione tra questi aspetti della comprensione e la prestazione di studio. I partecipanti alla ricerca sono 183 studenti frequentanti il primo anno della scuola media superiore a cui sono state somministrate le seguenti prove: 1. le prove di una batteria standardizzata in Italia che misura 10 aspetti della comprensione e 2. una prova oggettiva di studio che misura il ricordo di informazioni del testo precedentemente comprese e memorizzate. I risultati dell'analisi fattoriale confermativa (CFA) hanno mostrato che č possibile distinguere la comprensione del testo in aspetti di base e complessi e che questi ultimi predicono maggiormente la prestazione alla prova di studio.

L'obiettivo di questo lavoro č approfondire se e in che misura alcune caratteristiche individuali, come le strategie di coping, l'ego- resiliency e l'autoefficacia sociale, sono associate ad un diverso orientamento verso il futuro degli adolescenti. Intendiamo anche valutare il ruolo che le differenze di genere possono svolgere nel mediare tali ordini di variabili. Metodologia. La ricerca si č svolta su 243 adolescenti (115 maschi e 128 femmine; etŕ media = 18,6 anni; d.s. 2) divisi in due gruppi: soggetti con atteggiamento positivo verso il futuro (145 soggetti di cui 67 maschi e 78 femmine) e soggetti con atteggiamento negativo verso il futuro (98 soggetti di cui 48 maschi e 50 femmine). Strumenti. Per la rilevazione dei dati abbiamo utilizzato una batteria composta da quattro scale: Scala di atteggiamento verso il futuro (Jessor, 1992); Coping Strartegy Indicator (Amirkhan, 1990), Scala di Ego- Resiliency (Block e Kremen, 1996), Scala di Autoefficacia Sociale (Bandura, 1993). Risultati. L'analisi dei dati (MANOVA) ha evidenziato che i soggetti con atteggiamento positivo verso il futuro, rispetto a quelli con atteggiamento negativo, dispongono di un maggiore senso di autoefficacia (p < .001), e ego- resiliency (p < .001) e usano strategie di coping piů costruttive (p = .01). Non sono emerse invece differenze di genere.

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> There is increasing evidence that major depressive disorder (MDD) is associated with significant pragmatic language impairments. However, there is a lack of studies that use standardized tools and simultaneously investigate all pragmatic language skills among MDD patients. The aim of this study was to propose a more thorough investigation of all pragmatic language skills in patients with MDD. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Twenty adults (aged 22–65) with a DSM-5 diagnosis of MDD were assessed using BLED <i>Santa Lucia</i> (Batteria sul Linguaggio dell’Emisfero Destro <i>Santa Lucia</i>), a battery designed to evaluate pragmatic language skills (comprehension of inferences, of picture and written metaphors, of indirect requests, of humoristic expressions, and of prosody). The performance of the MDD participants on all BLED <i>Santa Lucia</i> subscales was compared to 20 healthy control subjects (aged 20–60) matched for gender, age, years of education, and employment status. <b><i>Results:</i></b> MDD patients performed poorer than controls in comprehension of inferences (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.01), picture metaphors (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001), written metaphors (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001), indirect requests (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.01), humoristic expression (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.05), and prosody (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.05). <b><i>Conclusions:</i></b> All pragmatic language skills can be significantly impaired in MDD patients. A valid assessment of all pragmatic language skills can allow, for each patient, the definition of a specific profile of risk and protective factors before and during psychotherapy.

The state-space representation of the battery model was established based on Thevenin battery model and extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm.According to the estimates and performance characteristics of battery, a new improved-way by amending the Kalman filter gain with the actual situation for raised the SOC estimation accuracy was proposed. The simulation and test results under the condition of simulated driving show that this new way really can increase the SOC accuracy; the equalization scheme can effectively compensate the performance inconsistency of battery pack.

Ai 79 soggetti individuati nelle diverse sale da gioco č stata somministrata una batteria di test composta dall'(EIGHT), dalla quinta versione della(SSS-V), dal(LOT-R) e dalla(SES), con l'aggiunta di una scheda informativa sulle abitudini di gioco (tempo dedicato ai diversi giochi, preferenze dei luoghi da gioco). Ai rimanenti 79 soggetti č stato somministrato l'EIGHT insieme alla scheda informativa.. L'Analisi Fattoriale Esplorativa (AFE), effettuata con il Metodo degli Assi Principali, ha permesso di individuare una struttura unifattoriale dell'EIGHT. La coerenza interna ottenuta attraverso il calcolo dell'č pari a .82. L'Analisi della Varianza (ANOVA) ha permesso di individuare una differenza significativa tra il gruppo di giocatori (M=4.18, D.S.=2.20) e il gruppo di non giocatori (M=.81, D.S.=1.12) rispetto al coinvolgimento nel gioco d'azzardo (F = 146.3, p&lt;.01).. I primi risultati su un campione italiano suggeriscono che l'EIGHT possiede buone proprietŕ psicometriche e puň essere utilizzato nel contesto italiano per la misura del grado di coinvolgimento nel Gioco d'Azzardo Patologico (GAP).

Dazu können einerseits eigens entworfene klinische Instrumente („core batteries”) oder Batterien etablierter Einzelinstrumente eingesetzt werden. Empirisch zeigt sich jedoch, dass „core batteries” meist durch einen Generalfaktor dominiert werden, ähnlich wie die weit verbreitete und ebenso mehrdimensional konzipierte SCL-90-R. Anhand einer Stichprobe psychosomatischer Patienten mit heterogenen Diagnosen (N = 1285) wird demonstriert, dass dies ebenso für eine Batterie anderer klinischer Skalen (BDI, IIP-D, SF-36, SOC-29, STAI, STAXI, TAS-26) zutrifft. Der Raum, der zudem durch diese Skalen mit der SCL-90-R gebildet wird, ist vierdimensional und wird durch „psychische Belastung” sowie drei Faktoren zum interpersonellen Verhalten und Problemen aufgespannt. This study examined the personality characteristics of Chinese male batterers in a cohort of 210 Chinese battered women drawn from a refuge in Hong Kong. Participants were interviewed using a standard questionnaire to examine the prevalence and incidence of violence they experienced. The incidence of battering in the preceding year was compared against the characteristics of male batterers using independent t tests. Logistic regression was preformed with the personality characteristics and battering. The results showed that a number of personality characteristics, in particular poor anger management and approval of the use of violence, were more frequent among batterers who were physically assaultive toward their partners. The findings of this study suggested the possibility of an association between child abuse and battering. The results have important implications for interventions with batterers in terms of the assessment and provision of batterer intervention programs.

AbstractOffensive performance in baseball depends on a number of correlated factors: the pitches the batter faces, the batter’s choice to swing, and the batter’s hitting ability. Recently a renewed focus on the effect of plate discipline on batter performance has emerged. Plate discipline has traditionally been summarized as the proportion of pitches inside and outside of the strike zone a player swings at; however, there have been few metrics proposed to assess the effect of plate discipline directly on batters’ outcomes. In this paper, we focus on estimating a batter’s performance if he were able to adopt a different plate discipline. Because we wish to assess the effect of a counterfactual plate discipline, we use a potential outcome framework and show how the G-computation algorithm can be used to isolate the effect of plate discipline separately from a batter’s hitting ability or the types of pitches the batter faces. As an example, we implement our approach using data collected with the PITCHf/x system over the 2012–2014 seasons to identify the improvement Starlin Castro would expect to see in offensive performance were he able to adopt Andrew McCutchen’s plate discipline. We estimate that had Castro adopted McCutchen’s discipline his batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage would have increased 0.017 (se = 0.004), 0.040 (se = 0.006), and 0.028 (se = 0.008), respectively.

This study aims to study the effect of CMC addition on the results of coating pick-up dan frying loss of fried battered tempeh. Hydrocolloids used were carboxyl methylcellulose (CMC) and pectin with concentrations of addition to the batter as much as 0.3%, 0.5%, 1% of the overall weight of the mixture. Temperature and tempeh frying time is at a temperature of 180oC and for 6 minutes. The results showed fried battered tempeh with the addition of CMC to its batters has good quality measured from the percentage of coating pick-up samples.

The thermal runaway chain reaction of batteries is an important cause of the battery energy storage system (BESS) accidents, and safety protection technology is the key technology to protect the BESS. Although the flame retardant thermal protection material can delay the thermal runaway chain reaction between batteries and reduce the heat conduction between batteries, it has a negative influence on the normal heat dissipation of batteries. In this paper, 12 series of batteries were assembled into the battery pack. The battery pack with closely arranged batteries, the battery pack with 3mm air gap between batteries and the battery pack with flame retardant thermal protection material between batteries were studied. The battery temperatures and temperature differences of these three types of battery packs were cyclically charged and discharged at rated power, and the effects of air gap and flame retardant thermal protection materials on the heat dissipation of batteries under charge/discharge cycle were analysed.

Accurate battery sorting can ensure good consistency of batteries for grouping. This study investigates the mechanism of inconsistency of battery packs and process of battery sorting on the lithium-ion battery module production line. Combined with the static and dynamic characteristics of lithium-ion batteries, the battery parameters on the production line that can be used as a sorting basis are analyzed, and the parameters of battery mass, volume, resistance, voltage, charge/discharge capacity and impedance characteristics are measured. The data of batteries are processed by the principal component analysis (PCA) method in statistics, and after analysis, the parameters of batteries are obtained. Principal components are used as sorting variables, and the self-organizing map (SOM) neural network is carried out to cluster the batteries. Group experiments are carried out on the separated batteries, and state of charge (SOC) consistency of the batteries is achieved to verify that the sorting algorithm and sorting result is accurate.

The crispiness is an important parameter of battered chicken meat products and could be improved by adding leavening agents such as baking powder and dried yeast. This work was aimed to study the effect of different leavening agents added on the quality characteristics of battered chicken meat. Chicken breast meat strips were dipped into batters using different type of leavening agent; control (without a leavening agent); 4% baking powder (1), 4% dried yeast (2) and 2% baking powder + 2% dried yeast (3). The batter was kept in room temperature (RT) and cold temperature (CT) for one hour after coating. Moisture content, fat content, the viscosity of batter formulation, color, texture and sensory of fried battered chicken meat strips were evaluated. Moisture contents of RT3 and CT3 were significantly higher compared to other treatments while the fat content and viscosity of RT3 and CT3 were among the lowest. The RT2 and CT2 resulted in the lightest color. Compared to control samples, the addition of baking powder and yeast increased crispiness (fracturability and hardness) which was higher when used in combination than alone. Sensory evaluation of quality attributes showed crispiness and overall acceptability for RT3 and CT3 were among the highest. From the experiment, formulation 3 displayed the best effect of the leavening agents (a combination of baking powder and dried yeast) in batter system which produced lower fat, high moisture content, and crispier deep-fried chicken breast meat.

Among them, the recycling and utilization of EV batteries have attracted much attention. This article indicates the classification of EV batteries and the importance of battery recycling, and proposes some measures to recycle batteries. The research in this paper shows that the current EV batteries mainly include lead-acid batteries, nickel-hydrogen batteries, lithium-ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries, and ternary lithium batteries. It was emphasized that heavy metals leaked from waste batteries cannot be normally degraded by microorganisms in water bodies and soil, and heavy metals can endanger human health through the food chain through water bodies, plants, animals, etc. At the same time, the recycling of precious metals and valuable metals in the battery can realize resource recycling. Faced with the problems in the EV battery recycling and utilization industry, the customers should strengthen their awareness of battery recycling. The enterprises should work closely with other related enterprises to form a more complete battery recycling industry chain. The government should issue policies and regulations for supervision and management. And the recycling system for battery recycling, cascade utilization, and resource reuse should be improved. This article provides a way to maximize the utilization of EV battery resources, reduce the adverse impact on the environment, and achieve the goal of carbon neutrality as soon as possible.

This study systematically reviews the available literature on battery sorting applications for battery researchers and users. These methods can be roughly divided into three types: direct measurement, sorting based on the model, and sorting based on the material chemistry of batteries. Among them, direct measurement is about the direct measurement of the state parameters of batteries using some professional instruments or testing tools to sort and group batteries with similar or close parameters. Sorting based on the model classifies batteries into groups by establishing a battery equivalent model and carrying out model identification and parameter estimation with machine learning or artificial intelligence algorithm. Sorting based on the material chemistry of batteries is to explore some characteristics related to the chemical mechanism inside the battery. On the basis of reading extensive literature, the methods for classification of battery are provided with an in-depth explanation, and each corresponding strengths and weaknesses of these methods are analyzed. We survey several neutron imaging and diffraction methods for non-destructive testing and evaluation of intact, commercial lithium-ion batteries. Specifically, far-field interferometry was explored as an option to probe a wide range of autocorrelation lengths within the batteries via neutron imaging. The dark-field interferometry images change remarkably from fresh to worn batteries, and from charged to discharged batteries. When attempting to search for visual evidence of battery degradation, neutron Talbot-Lau grating interferometry exposed battery layering and particle scattering through dark-field imaging. Bragg edge imaging also reveals battery wear and state of charge. Neutron diffraction observed chemical changes between fresh and worn, charged and discharged batteries. However, the utility of these methods, for commercial batteries, is dependent upon battery size and shape, with 19 to 43 mAh prismatic batteries proving most convenient for these experimental methods. This study reports some of the first spatially resolved, small angle scattering (dark-field) images showing battery degradation.

Several models for estimating the lifetimes of lead-acid and Li-ion (LiFePO4) batteries are analyzed and applied to a photovoltaic (PV)-battery standalone system. This kind of system usually includes a battery bank sized for 2.5 autonomy days or more. The results obtained by each model in different locations with very different average temperatures are compared. Two different locations have been considered: the Pyrenees mountains in Spain and Tindouf in Argelia. Classical battery aging models (equivalent full cycles model and rainflow cycle count model) generally used by researchers and software tools are not adequate as they overestimate the battery life in all cases. For OPzS lead-acid batteries, an advanced weighted Ah-throughput model is necessary to correctly estimate its lifetime, obtaining a battery life of roughly 12 years for the Pyrenees and around 5 years for the case Tindouf. For Li-ion batteries, both the cycle and calendar aging must be considered, obtaining more than 20 years of battery life estimation for the Pyrenees and 13 years for Tindouf. In the cases studied, the lifetime of LiFePO4 batteries is around two times the OPzS lifetime. As nowadays the cost of LiFePO4 batteries is around two times the OPzS ones, Li-ion batteries can be competitive with OPzS batteries in PV-battery standalone systems.

In this paper, the temperature distribution of the batteries in the pure electric vehicles was investigated to minimize the heat generated in the batteries. The finite element formulations of the 3-D heat conduction equation of the battery were established for both steady and transient states. Then the finite element simulations were developed to investigate and optimize the temperature distribution of the battery and the battery pack. A parametric study was completed such that the heat generated in the battery pack can be minimized.

Results of 125 battery ingestions in 114 separate episodes over an 11-month period are analyzed. The 125 batteries included 119 button batteries and six cylindrical cells. The location of batteries just prior to ingestion (loose or discarded [48.7%], in product [34.4%], in manufacturer's battery packaging [3.4%]) determined the need for consumer education of this potential hazard. The observation that hearing aid batteries were the most common type swallowed (33.9%), and that 14 batteries were ingested by hearing-impaired children after they removed the batteries from their own aids, further directs appropriate prevention efforts. All the larger cylindrical batteries and 89.9% of the button cells passed through the gastrointestinal tract spontaneously. Endoscopic retrieval was unsuccessful in 66.7% of cases attempted. Ipecac syrup, administered to 11 patients, uniformly failed to expel the battery. Transit time was within 48 hours for 68.8% of button cells, and 85.4% of the batteries were passed by 72 hours, with a range of 12 hours to 14 days. Once beyond the esophagus, arrested battery progression failed to correlate with adverse outcome. Symptoms developed in 11 patients but were only severe in the single case of esophageal lodgment. The vast majority of battery ingestions are benign and can be managed without endoscopic or surgical intervention.

With the rapid development of new energy vehicles (NEVs) industry in China, the reusing of retired power batteries is becoming increasingly urgent. In this paper, the critical issues for power batteries reusing in China are systematically studied. First, the strategic value of power batteries reusing, and the main modes of battery reusing are analyzed. Second, the economic benefit models of power batteries echelon utilization and recycling are constructed. Finally, the economic benefits of lithium iron phosphate (LIP) battery and ternary lithium (TL) battery under different reusing modes are analyzed based on the economic benefit models. The results show that when the industrial chain is fully coordinated, LIP battery echelon utilization is profitable based on a reasonable scenario scheme. However, the multi-level echelon utilization is only practical under an ideal scenario, and more attention should be paid to the first level echelon utilization. Besides, the performance matching of different types of batteries has a great impact on the echelon utilization income. Thus, considering the huge potentials of China’s energy storage market, the design of automobile power batteries in the future should give due consideration to the performance requirements of energy storage batteries. Moreover, the TL battery could only be recycled directly, while the LIP has the feasibility of echelon utilization at present. At the same time, it will strengthen the cost advantage of the LIP battery, which deserves special attention.

Nowadays, many countries are actively seeking ways to solve the energy crisis and environmental pollution. New Energy Vehicle (NEV) has become an important way to solve these problems. With the rapid development of NEV, its batteries need to be replaced with new batteries after 5–8 years. Therefore, whether the second use of NEV’s battery has commercial or social value becomes a research hotspot. The innovation of this paper is to use the cost-benefit method to determine the value influencing factors of NEV’s battery second use, and use system dynamics to perform scenario simulation analysis. The methods used in this paper are the cost-benefit method and system dynamics method. Firstly, this paper systematically analyzes the cost and benefit factors that affect the second use value of China’s NEV batteries and uses system dynamics to establish the relationship and value model among various factors. Then, this paper compares the value of battery energy storage between old batteries and new batteries. According to the cost-income factor analysis, this paper eventually selects specific factors and uses VENSIM software to carry out the multi-scenario simulation. The results show that NEV’s battery second use has commercial and social value compared to new battery energy storage. Moreover, battery cost, government subsidies, and electricity prices are three important factors that affect the second use value of China’s NEV battery. Changing the government’s cash subsidy methods, such as providing free batteries or combining new energy to reduce on-grid tariffs, will help increase the second use value of the NEV battery. In the future, the second use value of China’s NEV battery industry will be more significant, with the update of the technology, the surge in the number of NEV’s used batteries, and government support.

Many good review papers about Na battery have been published including Na-ion conductive ceramic electrolytes. Contrary, ceramic electrolytes for other post Li batteries like K, Mg, Ca, Zn and Al batteries are hardly summarized. In this review, research on ceramic electrolytes for K, Mg, Ca, Zn and Al batteries is analyzed based on latest papers published since 2019 and suggested future research direction of ceramic electrolytes for post-Li batteries.

During charging, battery heat is lost from the battery and other heat sources within an implantable device, which may be harmful to patients’ tissues. Therefore, charging batteries with minimum discomfort to patients while replenishing battery capacity as much as possible is a challenge. In this paper, a constant voltage with a different limiting current strategy for a lithium-ion polymer battery is proposed, thereby modulating the limiting current rate that reduces battery temperature increase. Experiments show that better safety charging performance for 260, 600, and 1000[Formula: see text]mAh lithium-ion polymer batteries can be obtained by the proposed current-limiting method. Compared with conventional constant-current–constant-voltage charging strategies, the maximum battery temperature increase is improved.

Abstract Objective The objective of this study was to examine satisfaction, test anxiety, and performance using computer-based cognitive batteries versus a paper-and-pencil neuropsychological battery among older Blacks. Method Self-identified Black adults (n = 87, age range: 55–86; mean education = 14) completed two computer-based tests (CogState and Joggle) and a paper-and-pencil neuropsychological battery. After each battery, participants reported their testing anxiety and satisfaction using the batteries. Descriptive, correlational, and regression analyses compared satisfaction, anxiety, and performance across the batteries. Results Majority of the participants reported more satisfaction with the computer-based (Joggle: 66%; CogState: 77%) than the neuropsychological (52%) battery. Participants also reported less testing anxiety after completing the computer-based batteries than the neuropsychological battery, F(2, 172) = 22.96, p &lt; .001. Older adults’ familiarity and comfort level with the computer were not associated with their performance on the computer-based tests (p &gt; .05). Although testing anxiety was not associated with performance across the batteries, age and education quality were uniquely associated with performance on the CogState and neuropsychological batteries. Conclusions Computer-based cognitive batteries appear to be less intimidating than the commonly used paper-and-pencil neuropsychological tests for Black adults. Thus, these cognitive batteries may be useful tools for monitoring older Blacks’ cognitive status.

The estimation of batteries’ state-condition is also very important for improving energy efficiency, lengthening the life cycle, minimizing costs and ensuring safe implementation of batteries in electric vehicles. However, batteries with large temporal variables and non-linear characteristics are often affected by random factors affecting the equivalent internal resistance (EIR), battery state of charge (SoC), and state of health (SoH) in EV applications. The estimation of batteries’ parameters is a complex process, due to its dependence on various factors such as batteries age and ambient temperature, among others. A good estimate of SoC and internal resistance leads to long battery life and disaster prevention in the event of a battery failure. The classification of estimation methodologies for internal parameters and the charging status of batteries will be very helpful in choosing the appropriate method for the development of a reliable and secure battery management system (BMS) and an energy management strategy for electric vehicles.

Il presente studio prospettico randomizzato ha lo scopo di valutare le differenze che emergono tra una stimolazione bimodale e una elettrica monolaterale nei bambini sordi, in particolare in termini di sviluppo delle abilità percettivo-uditive. Sono stati arruolati 39 bambini di età compresa tra i 12 e 36 mesi di vita, affetti da ipoacusia neurosensoriale bilaterale severo-profonda con residui uditivi in almeno un orecchio. Tutti i pazienti sono stati sottoposti a impianto cocleare monolaterale: 21 di questi indossavano solo l’impianto (stimolazione elettrica monolaterale, Gruppo 1) mentre i restanti 18 utilizzavano l’impianto da una parte e la protesi acustica controlaterale dall’altra (stimolazione bimodale, Gruppo 2). Ciascuno di questi pazienti è stato sottoposto a una batteria di test progettata per valutare le abilità percettivo-uditive preverbali e verbali immediatamente prima e a distanza di 6 e 12 mesi dall’intervento di impianto cocleare. Non si è apprezzata una differenza statisticamente significativa tra i gruppi al tempo 0, mentre a 6 e 12 mesi dall’impianto i pazienti con stimolazione bimodale ottenevano in ogni test somministrato prestazioni migliori del gruppo con sola stimolazione elettrica monolaterale. Di conseguenza, nonostante la sordità/udito monolaterale non infici l’acuità uditiva in situazioni d’ascolto semplici, l’uso contemporaneo dell’impianto e della protesi (udito binaurale attraverso una stimolazione bimodale) garantisce un vantaggio nella acquisizione delle abilità percettivo-uditive, consistente nel raggiungimento delle tappe dello sviluppo percettivo più velocemente e in maggiore quantità rispetto ai bambini con solo un impianto cocleare. Perciò, mantenere attiva la rete nervosa uditiva controlaterale, anche se non dominante nel determinare l’acuità uditiva, garantisce dei benefici rispetto al non uso del dispositivo. Queste informazioni possono rappresentare un’evidenza iniziale per stabilire linee guida condivise per la migliore gestione riabilitativa dei pazienti sottoposti a intervento di impianto cocleare, e possibilmente fornire un’evidenza scientifica solida al fine di una indicazione certa all’impianto cocleare bilaterale.

There are different types of rechargeable batteries, but lithium-ion battery has proven to be superior due to its features including small size, more volumetric energy density, longer life, and low maintenance. However, lithium-ion batteries face safety issues as one of the common challenges in their development, necessitating research in this area. For the safe operation of lithium-ion batteries, state estimation is very significant and battery parameter identification is the core in battery state estimation. The battery management system for electric vehicle application must perform a few estimation tasks in real-time. Battery state estimation is defined by the battery model adopted and its accuracy impacts the accuracy of state estimation. The knowledge of the actual operating conditions of electric vehicles requires the application of an accurate battery model; for our research, we adopted the use of the dual extended Kalman filter and it demonstrated that it yields more accurate and robust state estimation results. Since no single battery model can satisfy all the requirements of battery estimation and parameter identification, the hybridization of battery models together with the introduction of internal sensors to batteries to measure battery internal reactions is very essential. Similarly, since the current battery models rarely consider the coupling effect of vibration and temperature dynamics on model parameters during state estimation, this research goal is to identify the battery parameters and then present the effect of the vibration and temperature dynamics in battery state estimation.
