Abstract:
Autobiographical texts of H. M. Enzensberger and P. SchneiderThis study compares the autobiographical texts of H. M. Enzensberger and P. Schneider and tries to describe transitions between semantics of the so-called sceptical generation authors born in 1925–1930, here G. Grass, M. Walser, R. Baumgart, J. Fest and the ‘68 generation. It is based on Schneider’s proclamation that an intellectual is obliged to admit to their former errors and mistakes. Further it tries to clarify why Enzensberger was not going to fulfil this proclamation in his texts. This analysis puts Enzensberger’s autobiography Tumult 2014 in the intragenerational and intergenerational perspective. The main aim of this study is then to prove to what extent Enzensberger’s narrative strategy pairs with the strategy of his generation peers writing about their apprenticeship years under the rule of the Nazis.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
The brazilian engineer Emilio H. Baumgart is known as father of reinforced concrete in Brazil, despite this fact, there is little awareness about their actual contribution to the Brazilian School of Reinforced Concrete and the prelude to the Brazilian Modern Architecture. The objective of this research is to overcome the gaps and inaccuracies in the history of reinforced concrete in Brazil and the contributions provided by "Escriptório Technico Emilio H. Baumgart." The research evidence the "Escriptório" as a precursor to call Brazilian School of Reinforced Concrete serving as a true school of training of the most important Brazilian engineers of the twentieth century and is based on obtaining primary documentation from the SEEBLA company, remaining structure firm of the theoretical and practical lessons of Santa Catarina structural engineer; access to personal documents provided by their families and by interviews and reminiscences of researchers and engineers who knew the disciples of Baumgart. The work tried to create a genealogy of the engineers who worked directly in his office and were holders of a structural calculation method responsible for numerous works of architectural and related to this school of reinforced concrete excellence. The study sought to display the Baumgart relationship with the architects defined by the structural analysis of important Brazilian works in reinforced concrete as the A Night building, of Joseph Gire (1872-1933); the Albergue da Boa Vontade of Affonso Eduardo Reidy (1909-1964) and Gerson Pompeu Pinheiro (1910-1978) and the building of Ministry of Education and Public Health of the architects Lucio Costa (1902-1998); Jorge Machado Moreira (1904-1992); Carlos Leon (1906-1983); Affonso Eduardo Reidy; Ernani Mendes de Vasconcelos (1912-1989); Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida Niemeyer Soares Filho (1907-2012).

Abstract:
This paper presents and discusses the results obtained from a parametric study on the Baumgarte stabilization method for forward dynamics of constrained multibody systems. The main purpose of this work is to analyze the influence of the variables that affect the violation of constraints, chiefly the values of the Baumgarte parameters, the integration method, the time step and the quality of the initial conditions for the positions. In the sequel of this process the formulation of the rigid multibody systems is reviewed. The generalized Cartesian coordinates are selected as the variables to describe the bodies’ degrees of freedom. The formulation of the equations of motion uses the Newton-Euler approach that is augmented with the constraint equations that lead to a set of differential algebraic equations. Furthermore, the main issues related to the stabilization of the violation of constraints based on the Baumgarte approach are revised. Special attention is also given to some techniques that help in the selection process of the values of the Baumgarte parameters, namely those based on the Taylor’s series and Laplace transform technique. Finally, a slider crank mechanism with eccentricity is considered as an example of application in order to illustrated how the violation of constraints can be affected by different factors such as the Baumgarte parameters, integrator, time step and initial guesses.

Abstract A new automatic constraint violation stabilization algorithm for numerical integration of Euler-Lagrange equations of motion of multibody system dynamics based on Baumgarte constraint violation stabilization method and Taylor expansion of constraint functions is presented. The constraint equations may be holonomic or nonholonomic. The parameters α, β, σ used in Baumgarte’s method are determined automatically according to integration step. Some numerical examples compare the accuracy between the traditional method and the one suggested in this paper are presented finally.

Abstract:
This paper develops a discrete Hamiltonian system with holonomic constraints with Geometric Constraint Stabilization. It is first shown that constrained mechanical systems with nonconservative external forces can be formulated by using canonical symplectic structures in the context of Hamiltonian systems. Second, it is shown that discrete holonomic Hamiltonian systems can be developed via the discretization based on the Backward Differentiation Formula and also that geometric constraint stabilization can be incorporated into the discrete Hamiltonian systems. It is demonstrated that the proposed method enables one to stabilize constraint violations effectively in comparison with conventional methods such as Baumgarte Stabilization and Gear–Gupta–Leimkuhler Stabilization, together with an illustrative example of linkage mechanisms.

Abstract:
Abstract A relative coordinate formulation of the Hamiltonian equation of motion is derived for realtime vehicle simulation. The Baumgarte stabilization method [1] is adopted to solve the Differential-Algebraic Equations (DAE) of motion. The stability theory of multi-step integration methods is used to determine the stabilization constant. The equations of motion are first derived in Cartesian space and are reduced to relative coordinate space using the velocity transformation method [2]. Partial derivative of the kinetic energy with respect to the relative coordinate is obtained from equivalence of the Lagrangian and the Newton-Euler formulations. Parallel processing of the formulation is also discussed. Realtime simulation of a passenger vehicle is carried out to demonstrate the efficiency of the new formulation.

Abstract:
In this paper, we develop a geometric approach to constraint stabilization for holonomic mechanical systems in the context of Lagrangian formulation. We first show that holonomic mechanical systems, for the case in which a given Lagrangian is hyperregular, can be formulated by using the Lagrangian two-form, namely, a symplectic structure on the tangent bundle of a configuration manifold that is induced from the cotangent bundle via the Legendre transformation. Then, we present an idea of geometric constraint stabilization and we show that a holonomic Lagrangian system with geometric constraint stabilization can be formulated by the Lagrange-d’Alembert principle, together with its local coordinate expression for the sake of numerical computations. Finally, we illustrate the numerical verification that the proposed method enables to stabilize constraint violations effectively in comparison with the Baumgarte and Gear–Gupta–Leimkuhler methods together with an example of a linkage mechanism.

Abstract:
Abstract We develop a method for animating systems with open and closed loops and in particular ladder climbing for virtual world applications. Ladder climbing requires the modeling of dynamic open and closed-loop chains. We model the stance phase and the associated closed-loop dynamics, through the use of the Lagrange multiplier method which results in a system of differential algebraic equations (DAE). We use the Lagrange method for the dynamic formulation of the swing phase. The input to the algorithm is a given forward velocity, step length, step frequency and a chosen gait. The algorithm then determines the initial and final positions for each phase of ladder climbing. We use the Newton-Ralphson method to find the vector of joint torques that drives the dynamic system from the initial position to the final position. We use the Baumgarte stabilization method to achieve stability of the numerical integration. We present a series of real-time animations involving ladder climbing.

Abstract:
In this paper, we describe the mathematical modeling of guide wire dynamics for an intravascular surgical procedure as a problem of constrained multibody dynamics involving surface to surface interactions. The goal of this project is to develop a physics based real time simulator with haptics for the above procedure. The guide-wire is segmented into a finite number of massless and inextensible rods attached with spheres on either sides thus reducing the problem to that of the dynamics of rolling motion of spheres on the re-parameterized surface of vasculature under the action of unilateral constraints with associated Lagrange multipliers. The constrained problem is solved as LCP using Lemke’s method and stabilized using Baumgarte constrain stabilization. The parameters for the constrained violation stabilization are learned real-time using a method based on adaptive control theory. Simulations were performed on geometries representing different sections of vasculature. The results show that this method can be implemented on a full-scale three dimensional vasculature with a hardware interface for haptic feedback.

Abstract:
We investigate the motion and vibration of a moving body on a complicated 3 dimensional trajectory. We take a roller coaster as a model of a moving body. Equations of its motion and conditions of constraints are set up for using the differential-algebraic equation (DAE). In our previous reports, we showed the simulation method by using the s-u-z coordinate. Let us call it the s-u-z simulation method. s-axis is the direction of a length of trajectory which is tangential line for the projected trajectory on coordinate x-y. In this paper, we examine the simulation method by using the global coordinate x-y-z. Let us call it the x-y-z simulation method. In the process of the simulation, we apply the stablization method by Baumgarte to the both of simulation methods. It is found that the x-y-z simulation method is more complicated than the s-u-z simulation method so that it is more difficult to stablize the simulated trajectory in the x-y-z simulation method. Lastly, we compare these response accelerations in each simulation method with those in experiment.

Abstract:
A nonlinear, planar model of a slack cable with bending stiffness and arbitrarily moving ends is developed. The model uses the slope angle of the centroid line of the cable to describe the motion of the cable, and the resulting integro-partial differential equation with constraints is derived using Hamilton’s principle. A new method is developed to obtain the spatially discretized equations, and the Baumgarte stabilization procedure is used to solve the resulting differential-algebraic equations. The model can be used to calculate the equilibria and corresponding free vibration characteristics of the cable, as well as the dynamic response of the cable under arbitrarily moving ends. The results for an equilibrium and free vibration characteristics around the equilibrium are experimentally validated on a laboratory steel band. The methodology is applied to elevator traveling and compensation cables. It is found that a vertical motion of the car can introduce a horizontal vibration of a traveling or compensation cable. The results presented are verified by a commercial finite element software. The current method is shown to be more efficient than the finite element method as it uses a much smaller number of elements to reach the same accuracy. Some other interesting features include the condition for a traveling or compensation cable equilibrium to be closest to a natural loop and a direct proof that the catenary solution is unique.
