Zusammenfassung Mastery measurements sind kurze, kriterienorientierte, formative Tests zur Messung von Schülerleistungen in hierarchisch strukturierten Lerndomänen. Obwohl viele digitale Lernmaterialien dieses Testprinzip nutzen, sind Zusammenhänge zwischen mastery measurments und weiterführenden Lernprozessen bisher kaum Gegenstand empirischer Forschung. In dieser Studie werden deshalb die Effekte lernzielorientierter Tests innerhalb eines Moodle-Kurses zu Rechtschreibung und Grammatik untersucht. Als Datengrundlage dienen die im Moodle-Kurs anfallenden Bewertungen und Log-Daten von 407 Schülerinnen und Schülern aus 18 Realschul- und Gymnasialklassen (Jahrgangsstufe 6–9). Die Effekte des mastery measurement auf Feedbacknutzung, Lernaktivitäten im Kurs und Lernfortschritt wurden mit einem Bayes’schen Netz auf Ebene einzelner Test-Folgetest-Sequenzen modelliert. Es zeigte sich, dass eine Feedbacknutzung zusammen mit dem Nachlesen von Regeln und gezielten Übungen die Wahrscheinlichkeit eines Lernfortschritts innerhalb einer Test-Folgetest-Sequenz deutlich erhöht.

Der Einfluss des Menschen verändert die Erdoberfläche in gravierendem Maße. Die Anwendung von Landnutzungsmodellen ist etabliert, um derartige Prozesse zu analysieren und um Handlungsempfehlungen für Entscheidungsträger zu geben. Landnutzungsmodelle stehen unter dem Einfluss von Unsicherheiten, welche beim Interpretieren der Ergebnisse berücksichtigt werden müssen. Dennoch gibt es wenige Ansätze, die unterschiedliche Unsicherheitsquellen mit ihren Interdependenzen untersuchen und ihre Auswirkungen auf die projizierte Änderung der Landschaft analysieren. Aus diesem Grund ist das erste Ziel dieser Arbeit einen systematischen Ansatz zu entwickeln, der wesentliche Unsicherheitsquellen analysiert und ihre Fortentwicklung zur resultierenden Änderungskarte untersucht. Eine andere Herausforderung in der Landnutzungsmodellierung ist es, die Eignung von Projektionen abzuschätzen wenn keine Referenzdaten vorliegen. Bayes’sche Netze wurden als eine vielseitige Methode identifiziert, um das erste Ziel zu erreichen. Darüber hinaus wurden die Modellierungsschritte „Definition der Modellstruktur“, „Auswahl der Eingangsdaten“ und „Weiterverarbeitung der Daten“ als wesentliche Unsicherheitsquellen identifiziert. Um das zweite Ziel zu adressieren wurde eine Auswahl an Maßzahlen entwickelt. Diese quantifizieren Unsicherheit mit Hilfe einer projizierten Änderungskarte und ohne den Vergleich mit Referenzdaten. Mit diesen Maßzahlen ist es zusätzlich möglich zwischen quantitativer und räumlicher Unsicherheit zu unterscheiden. Vor allem in räumlichen Anwendungen wie der Landnutzungsmodellierung ist diese Möglichkeit wertvoll. Dennoch kann auch ein absolut sicheres Modell gleichzeitig ein falsches und nutzloses Modell sein. Deswegen wird ein Ansatz empfohlen, der die Beziehung zwischen Unsicherheit und Genauigkeit in bekannten Zeitschritten schätzt. Die entwickelten Ansätze geben wichtige Informationen um die Eignung von modellierten Entwicklungspfaden der Landnutzung zu verstehen.
Human influence has led to substantial changes to the Earth’s surface. Land change models are widely applied to analyze land change processes and to give recommendations for decision-making. Land change models are affected by uncertainties which have to be taken into account when interpreting their results. However, approaches which examine different sources of uncertainty with regard to their interdependencies and their influence on projected land change are rarely applied. The first objective of this thesis is therefore to develop a systematic approach which identifies major sources of uncertainty and the propagation to the resulting land change map. Another challenge in land change modeling is the estimation of the reliability of land change predictions when no reference data are available. Bayesian Belief Networks were identified as a useful technique to reach the first objective. Moreover, the modeling steps of “model structure definition”, “data selection” and “data preprocessing” were detected as relevant sources of uncertainty. To address the second research objective, a set of measures based on probabilities were developed. They quantify uncertainty by means of a single predicted land change map without using a reference map. It is additionally possible to differentiate uncertainty into its spatial and quantitative components by means of these measures. This is especially useful in spatial applications such as land change modeling. However, even a certain model can be wrong and therefore useless. Therefore, an approach is suggested which estimates the relationship between disagreement and uncertainty in known time steps to use this relationship in future time steps. The approaches give important information for understanding the reliability of modeled future development paths of land change.

For railways, risk analysis is carried out to identify hazardous situations and their consequences. Until recently, classical methods such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Event Tree Analysis (ETA) were applied in modelling the linear and logically deterministic aspects of railway risks, safety and reliability. However, it has been proven that modern railway systems are rather complex, involving multi-dependencies between system variables and uncertainties about these dependencies. For train derailment accidents, for instance, high train speed is a common cause of failure; slip and failure of brake applications are disjoint events; failure dependency exists between the train protection and warning system and driver errors; driver errors are time dependent and there is functional uncertainty in derailment conditions. Failing to incorporate these aspects of a complex system leads to wrong estimations of the risks and safety, and, consequently, to wrong management decisions. Furthermore, a complex railway system integrates various technologies and is operated in an environment where the behaviour and failure modes of the system are difficult to model using probabilistic techniques. Modelling and quantification of the railway risk and safety problems that involve dependencies and uncertainties such as mentioned above are complex tasks. Importance measures are useful in the ranking of components, which are significant with respect to the risk, safety and reliability of a railway system. The computation of importance measures using FTA has limitation for complex railways. ALARP (As Low as Reasonably Possible) risk acceptance criteria are widely accepted as ’\'best practice’’ in the railways. According to the ALARP approach, a tolerable region exists between the regions of intolerable and negligible risks. In the tolerable region, risk is undertaken only if a benefit is desired. In this case, one needs to have additional criteria to identify the socio-economic benefits of adopting a safety measure for railway facilities. The Life Quality Index (LQI) is a rational way of establishing a relation between the financial resources utilized to improve the safety of an engineering system and the potential fatalities that can be avoided by safety improvement. This thesis shows the application of the LQI approach to quantifying the social benefits of a number of safety management plans for a railway facility. We apply Bayesian Networks and influence diagrams, which are extensions of Bayesian Networks, to model and assess the life safety risks associated with railways. Bayesian Networks are directed acyclic probabilistic graphical models that handle the joint distribution of random variables in a compact and flexible way. In influence diagrams, problems of probabilistic inference and decision making – based on utility functions – can be combined and optimized, especially, for systems with many dependencies and uncertainties. The optimal decision, which maximizes the total benefits to society, is obtained. In this thesis, the application of Bayesian Networks to the railway industry is investigated for the purpose of improving modelling and the analysis of risk, safety and reliability in railways. One example application and two real world applications are presented to show the usefulness and suitability of the Bayesian Networks for the quantitative risk assessment and risk-based decision support in reference to railways.

Personalisierung ist ein wichtiger Bereich des Internet Marketings, zu dem es wenige experimentelle Untersuchungen mit großen Teilnehmerzahlen gibt. Für den erfolgreichen Einsatz von Empfehlungsverfahren sind umfangreiche Daten über das Käuferverhalten erforderlich. Diesen Problemstellungen nimmt sich die vorliegende Arbeit an. In ihr wird das Shop-übergreifende individuelle Käuferverhalten von bis zu 126.000 Newsletter-Empfängern eines deutschen Online-Bonussystems sowohl mittels ausgewählter Data-Mining-Methoden als auch experimentell untersucht. Dafür werden Prototypen eines Data-Mining-Systems, einer A/B-Test-Software-Komponente und einer Empfehlungssystem-Komponente entwickelt und im Rahmen des Data Minings und durch Online-Feldexperimente evaluiert. Dabei kann für die genannte Nutzergruppe in einem Experiment bereits mit einem einfachen Empfehlungsverfahren gezeigt werden, dass zum einen die Shop-übergreifenden individuellen Verhaltensdaten des Online-Bonus-Systems für die Erzeugung von Empfehlungen geeignet sind, und zum anderen, dass die dadurch erzeugten Empfehlungen zu signifikant mehr Bestellungen als bei der besten Empfehlung auf Basis durchschnittlichen Käuferverhaltens führten. In weiteren Experimenten im Rahmen der Evaluierung der A/B-Test-Komponente konnte gezeigt werden, dass absolute Rabattangebote nur dann zu signifikant mehr Bestellungen führten als relative Rabatt-Angebote, wenn sie mit einer Handlungsaufforderung verbunden waren. Die Arbeit ordnet sich damit in die Forschung zur Beeinflussung des Käuferverhaltens durch Personalisierung und durch unterschiedliche Rabatt-Darstellungen ein und trägt die genannten Ergebnisse und Artefakte bei.
