Abstract:
Context: Recent reports of media have brought great attention to the problem of formalin used by whole sellers and venders in preserving fish. It is evident from several studies that fish items in different markets in Bangladesh are treated with formalin for preservation which is highly hazardous and carcinogenic chemical. Objectives: The study was undertaken to determine the presence of formalin in fishes collected from various wet markets of Tangail and Tongi town. Materials and Methods: From 12 selected wet markets, various species of fishes were collected and presence of formalin was detected using the “formalin detection kit in fish” developed by Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR). Results: It was found that 16 fishes were formalin contaminated out of 192 fish samples in which 0% in Santosh bazar, 11.11% in Soi ani bazar, 13.33% in Park bazar, 14.81% in Old bus stand bazar, 0% in Chara bari bazar and 12.82% in New bus stand bazar of Tangail town. On the other hand, 33 formalin contaminated fish out of 171 were obtained in which 0% in Coto bazar, 20% in Gazipura bus stand bazar, 37.5% in Chourasta bazar, 0% in Boro bari bazar, 36.36% in CheragAli bazar and 20% in Tongi bazar of Tongi town. The study indicates that almost 8.33% of fish samples in Tangail town and 19.29% of fish samples in Tongi town were formalin contaminated. Conclusion: The present study revealed that in Tangail town 75% imported fish and 25% local fishes were formalin contaminated whereas in Tongi town, 82% imported fishes and 18% local fishes were formalin contaminated. Abstract:
Abstract Dirk Boer (1803–1877) contributed to the popularization of Japanese and Chinese art in The Netherlands. He is best remembered for his ‘Groote Koninklijke Bazar’ or Grand Royal Bazaar which, during the nineteenth century, had an international reputation for exhibiting and selling Japanese and Chinese products, alongside a much wider and more diverse selection of goods. In this study, some of Dirk Boer’s earlier achievements and activities pre-dating the Groote Koninklijke Bazar will be discussed and Boer’s Chinese and Japanese Panorama will be highlighted as an illustration of the interest in China and Japan in The Netherlands during the 1830s. Contemporary reports are discussed with a view to establishing something of Boer’s Panorama’s physical appearance and popularity. Analogies will be drawn to similar exhibitions, cosmoramas and panoramas, both in Britain and The Netherlands.

Abstract:
This study aims to make students have an independent character, discipline and responsibility in the digital era through the Monthly Bazaar. The method used in this research was Mixed Method with a sequential exploratory strategy. The sequential exploratory strategy involves collecting and analyzing quantitative data in the second stage based on the results of the first stage. Weights / priorities are more likely to be in the first stage, and the mixing process between these two methods occurs when the researcher makes a connection between qualitative data analysis and quantitative data collection. The results of the study were obtained from qualitative data analysis in the first stage and quantitative data in the second stage. The results of the first stage were obtained from educators' observations of students after completing the monthly bazaar. The results of the second stage are obtained through calculations using a Likert scale and it is obtained the data of 43.75% (ever) if it is categorized in interpretation of scores based on intervals. This data was obtained before the implementation of the monthly bazaar. After implementing the monthly bazaar for two times, the data is 72.75% (often). From the two stages, the relevant results obtained between qualitative and quantitative data analysis showed that there was an independent character, discipline and responsibility embedded in students after the implementation of the monthly bazaar activities.

Abstract:

Hence, the present study was aimed to isolate and identify different bacterial flora contaminating different dried fishes, sold at different retail markets within Dhaka Metropolitan city, Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 25 different dried fishes were collected from Dhaka North city corporation area (Town Hall kacha bazar, Krishi market, and Mohammadpur kacha bazar) and Dhaka South city corporation area (New market kacha bazar, and Jatrabari chowrasta bazar). Each sample was divided into three regions (head, body, and tail) and bacterial isolation and identification was done by studying their cultural, staining and biochemical properties. Of the 25 dried fishes, Escherichia coli, Bacillus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Salmonella spp. and unidentified bacteria isolation rates were 44%, 56%, 80%, 48%, and 24%, respectively. The presence of E. coli and Salmonella spp. in various dried fish samples could be considered as indication of lack of hygienic condition during dried fish processing. Confirmation through molecular detection methods, pathogenicity, and antibiogram of the isolated bacteria could be included for future study.

Abstract:
Excavations at Chagar Bazar by the British School of Archaeology in Iraq team continued in 2001 and 2002 in Areas A and G (Fig. 1). In both areas, the final occupation of the site, datable to ca 1800–1650 BC, was investigated. Cuneiform tablets from Max Mallowan's 1930s excavations testify to the key position held by Chagar Bazar at the beginning of this period. His work had exposed large areas of domestic and administrative structures, but stratigraphic and relational uncertainties remained which merited further investigation. The archaeological situation at the fringes of Shamshi-Addu's Kingdom of Upper Mesopotamia are still somewhat enigmatic, and the aftermath of its collapse has not been intensively explored.

Abstract:
The objective of the article is to investigate the commemorative practices related to the tragedy in Bazar in the context of the anti-Bolshevik insurgency and Ukrainian emigration of the 1920s–1930s. The methodology of the scientific research is based on the general scientific and special historical methods, taking into account the basic principles of historical world perception: historicism, scientific character, objectivity, systematic approach. The principles of historicism and scientific character have made it possible to reproduce the peculiarities of the commemorative practices associated with the tragedy in Bazar in all its complexity and diversity, interrelation and interdependence with the events of the time. The principle of objectivity is a helpful way to analyze the outlined problem with a critical survey of reference data. The principle of the systematic approach has enabled us to form a coherent picture of the manifestations of the commemorative practices in memory of the victims of the tragedy during the outlined period. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that it examines the events of November 1921 from the standpoint of the historical memory schools for the first time. A great variety of reference data has made it possible to examine the commemorative practices in the memory of the victims of the tragedy in Bazar in a short chronological period from the 1920s and during the 1930s. As a result of the study, the author concludes that the first attempts to commemorate the victims at their burial sites occurred in the early 1920s. The preservation of the memory of the tragedy in Bazar fostered the spread of anti-Bolshevik insurgencies in Zhytomyr region. As the Soviet authorities aimed to destroy the historical memory of the victims of the November 1921 execution, the attempts to preserve it through various commemorative practices were connected with the Ukrainian political emigration abroad (Poland, France, and Czechoslovakia) because the former Ukrainian military as well as the emigration government structures of the UNR were situated there. In the interwar period the commemoration of the tragedy in Bazar was embodied and reflected in the works of fine art. Furthermore, memoirs on both the Second Winter Campaign of the UNR Army and the tragedy in Bazar were published during this time.

Abstract:
An investigation was carried out on fish landing centers, fish markets and fish fauna of the Mymensingh town to overview the location of the fish landing/entering centers, the source of supply and availability of fisheries organisms in Mymensingh town. The investigation was conducted from October 2009 to September 2010 in sixteen landing centers and markets of Mymensingh town. Among a total of 122 species of fishes were available of which, 113 were finfish and 9 were shellfish. Out of 113 finfish, 85 were freshwater fish species, 14 were exotic species, 14 were marine species, 7 were prawn /shrimps and 2 were mud crab and tortoise. Different types of freshwater fish, marine fish, crustacean and dry fish were found in Mymensingh town. The most abundant freshwater fish species were Catla catla, Labeo rohita, Clarias batrachus, Cirrhinus cirrhosus, Channa punctatus. Among the marine fishes Lates calcarifer, Euthynnus affinis and Mugil cephalus were recorded. The shellfishes, Macrobrachium rosenbergii and Penaeus monodon were most abundant. Significant amount of carps were imported from inside and outside of the districts. Besides the carps, small quantities of other fish, e.g, hilsha, catfish, tilapia, small indigenous fish, prawn and shrimp and other fish including marine can be seen in the fish landing centers and fish markets in Mymensingh town. Trains, buses, trucks and pickups were used as transport of fish to the landing centers from outside of Mymensingh town. Virtually most of the fish (84.6 %) were brought from different areas of the district and adjacent district like Netrokona, Jamalpur, Gazipur and Kishoreganj. The rest (15.4 %) were brought from external source in Mechhua bazar, Natun bazar, Sankipara bazar, Charpara bazar and Kathgola bazar. Main source of the fishes were different ponds, haors, beels and rivers of Mymensingh and adjacent districts. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jbau.v9i2.11046 ]J. Bangladesh Agril. Abstract:
The present study was carried out to investigate the bacterial flora of mud crab (Scylla olivacea) meat collected from the five markets of Dhaka city. Faecal Coliform, Salmonella sp. and Shigella sp., E. coil, and Vibrio spp. were detected in most of the samples except the frozen ones from Agora super shop. The samples from Basabo and Karwan bazar had higher bacterial load than the others. The highest TBC counts were observed in the samples from Karwan bazar (38.1 ± 1.20 x 104cfu/g) and the lowest were from Agora super shop (4.48 ± 0.26 x104cfu/g). The total Vibrio spp. counts were found only in two markets, i.e. from Farmgate and Basabo. The total E. coli counts ranged from 1.25 ± 0.02 x 104cfu/g to 4.33 ± 0.56 x 104cfu/g. The Salmonella and Shigella counts varied between3.95 ± 0.28 x 104cfu/g for Karwan bazaar and 16.76 ± 1.26 x 104cfu/g for Basabo. Total Staphylococcus spp. counts ranged between 14.4 ± 1.1 x 104cfu/g and 20.01± 1.94 x 104cfu/g for normal crab samples and 0.37 ± 0.025 x 104cfu/g for frozen samples. The results of this study showed that the bacterial load was significantly higher in live crab than the frozen crab indicating that later are safe for human consumption.Bangladesh J.
