Abstract:
Biobased carbon materials (BBC) obtained from Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst.) bark was produced by single-step chemical activation with ZnCl2 or KOH, and pyrolysis at 800 °C for one hour. The chemical activation reagent had a significant impact on the properties of the BBCs. KOH-biobased carbon material (KOH-BBC) had a higher specific surface area (SBET), equal to 1067 m2 g−1, larger pore volume (0.558 cm3 g−1), more mesopores, and a more hydrophilic surface than ZnCl2-BBC. However, the carbon yield for KOH-BBC was 63% lower than for ZnCl2-BBC. Batch adsorption experiments were performed to evaluate the ability of the two BBCs to remove two dyes, reactive orange 16 (RO-16) and reactive blue 4 (RB-4), and treat synthetic effluents. The general order model was most suitable for modeling the adsorption kinetics of both dyes and BBCs. The equilibrium parameters at 22 °C were calculated using the Liu model. Upon adsorption of RO-16, Qmax was 90.1 mg g−1 for ZnCl2-BBC and 354.8 mg g−1 for KOH-BBC. With RB-4, Qmax was 332.9 mg g−1 for ZnCl2-BBC and 582.5 mg g−1 for KOH-BBC. Based on characterization and experimental data, it was suggested that electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonds between BBCs and RO-16 and RB-4 dyes played the most crucial role in the adsorption process. The biobased carbon materials showed high efficiency for removing RO-16 and RB-4, comparable to the best examples from the literature. Additionally, both the KOH- and ZnCl2-BBC showed a high ability to purify two synthetic effluents, but the KOH-BBC was superior.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article presents research on two key BBC World Service websites, BBC Persian Online and BBC Arabic Online. It draws on in-house BBC data, supplemented by our own semi-structured interviews with online editors and other key World Service staff. It examines where users of the two sites are located, their demographic characteristics and their views on and uses of the sites. The data is analyzed in the context of debates about the politics of diasporic media and communication networks and changing collective identities, the UK government's Foreign and Commonwealth Office's (FCO) strategy of 'digital diplomacy' and the World Service's stated public purpose of fostering a 'global conversation.' Our research has shown how the majority of users of both BBC Arabic and Persian Online services reside outside the geographical areas that the BBC World Service targets and may be defined as diasporic. And these two websites are not exceptional. Diasporic groups make increasing use of the BBC's online foreign language news sites but these transnational communication networks are an unintended consequence of the BBC's activities. We highlight how the internet is changing configurations of audiences and users at the BBC World Service as geographically dispersed language groups can log on to the news services from anywhere in the world. We argue that the BBC World Service can no longer be seen as an international broadcaster pursuing the BBC's motto 'nation shall speak peace unto nation.' Rather, as one of the world's largest news providers, it is implicated in the formation of new kinds of transnational communities and communications which has as yet unforeseen consequences for national identifications and for strategies of public diplomacy.

Abstract:
Purpose: To investigate the association between the bird-beak configuration (BBC), a wedge-shaped gap between the undersurface of a thoracic endograft and the lesser curvature of the arch after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), and postoperative outcome after TEVAR. Methods: The study was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. The PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases were searched to identify all case series reporting BBC after TEVAR between 2006 and April 2018. Data analysis was performed considering the difference in the risk of complications for presence vs absence of BBC. After screening 1633 articles, 21 studies were identified that matched the selection criteria; 12 of these reported detailed information to investigate the postoperative outcome using proportion meta-analysis with a random effects model. The pooled risk difference is reported with the 95% confidence interval (CI). Heterogeneity of the included studies was assessed with the I2 statistic (low 25%, medium 50%, high 75%). Results: Complications occurred within a range of 0 to 72 months in 14.7% (95% CI 7.4% to 27.3%) of patients with BBC and in 6.3% (95% CI 2.5% to 15.4%) of patients without BBC. A cumulative incidence could not be assessed. The summary risk difference was 11.1% (95% CI −0.1% to 22.3%, p=0.052). There was significant heterogeneity ( I2=85.6%). The Egger test did not show evidence of publication bias (p=0.975). When specifically considering type Ia endoleak and endograft migration, the risk difference between BBC and non-BBC patients was 8.2% (95% CI 0.3% to 16.1%, p=0.042; I2=69.0%). The specific risk difference for endograft collapse/infolding and thrombosis was 3.7% (95% CI −3.5% to 11.1%, p=0.308; I2=10.2%). Conclusion: At present the literature does not provide statistical evidence to establish an overall prognostic value of the BBC. Nevertheless, the BBC appears to be associated with a high risk of type Ia endoleak and endograft migration, which warrants specific and long-term surveillance. Clinically relevant values for BBC grading should be established to perhaps define indications for preemptive treatment based on the presence of BBC only.

Abstract:
This research attempts to reveal representation of Kim Jong-Un’s succession in BBC News through textual and discursive practice analysis. The data of this thesis are taken from BBC News website on 29 and 31 December 2011. The theory applied to seek the objective of the research is Critical Discourse Analysis developed by Fairclough. Through textual and discursive practice analysis, the writer finds pthat BBC employs more passive material clauses than active material clauses in depicting Kim Jong-Un’s succession. BBC also represents Kim Jong-Un’s succession as premature process where Kim Jong-Un is portrayed as a young and inexperienced leader. Besides the prematurity of the succession, the present writer finds that BBC represents Kim Jong-Un’s succession as continuity of Kim’s family dynasty. Thus, the succession is based on his resemblance to Kim Il-Sung, the founder of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, rather than Kim Jong-Un ability and competency.

Abstract:
The present study investigates the influence of co-administration of different concentrations (2, 6, and 10 mg) of curcumin on goat intestinal permeability of berberine chloride (BBC) using Franz diffusion cell. Data obtained in triplicate from permeability studies were used to calculate percentage cumulative drug release (% CDR), apparent permeability (Papp), flux (J) and enhancement ratio (ER). Co-administration of 6 mg concentration of curcumin with BBC was found to be optimum to enhance the permeability of BBC up to 23.92 ± 0.78 % CDR, over control (8.49 ± 1.45 % CDR). At the optimized concentration of curcumin, permeability characteristics were improved significantly compared to control. The present study reveals the beneficial effect of co-administration of curcumin (6 mg) to promote membrane permeability of BBC which would be expected to improve its bioavailability, thereby therapeutic efficacy. The effect could be attributed to curcumin-mediated inhibition of intestinal efflux pump P-gp, acting as an absorption barrier for BBC.

Abstract:
In 2018, BBC Marketing and Audiences approached semiotic agencies with a challenging brief. They wanted to know the following: What makes modern Britain laugh? The BBC’s younger audiences have been steadily drifting to other platforms and broadcasters to satisfy their need for “funny stuff.” Brands that successfully leverage humor really resonate with this new modern mainstream audience, for example, Netflix, BuzzFeed, YouTube, Snapchat, and so on. The BBC, as part of its remit to continue to be a modern evolving brand, wanted to address this trend by understanding what types of comedy content convey a relatable sense of humor and how to best achieve this. The BBC required insight on the following key objectives: Identify key characteristics of content that younger audiences find funny; Explain how this compares with the preferences of the BBC’s older audiences; Estimate how far the BBC brand can stretch in humor content across platform; Assess the need for innovation across BBC platforms to accommodate fresh content. The project involved a multi-methodology approach, the centerpiece of which was a content analysis of 800 data points of consumer generated content derived from WhatsApp diaries. The semiotic analysis, informed by foundational thinking on humor schools and humor psychology, used an innovative hashtagging system to create a nuanced taxonomy of the mostly memes and viral videos with the primary types (e.g., #cringe, #pastiche, #awkwardness, #black humour, #satire, #schadenfreude etc.). The BBC received a comprehensive taxonomy of more than 50 humor types, a digest of levers of engagement for operationalising the humour, and maps for strategic channel positioning. The work has helped the BBC innovate in three core areas: rethinking their use of metadata for tagging comedy content on the iPlayer platform, modifying their tone of voice across all parts of the business, and in commissioning original comedy podcasts for the BBC Sounds app.

Abstract:
AbstractThe objective, in this article, is to address the issue of the comparability of documents, which are extracted from different sources and written in different languages. These documents are not necessarily translations of each other. This material is referred as multilingual comparable corpora. These language resources are useful for multilingual natural language processing applications, especially for low-resourced language pairs. In this paper, we collect different data in Arabic, English, and French. Two corpora are built by using available hyperlinks for Wikipedia and Euronews. Euronews is an aligned multilingual (Arabic, English, and French) corpus of 34k documents collected from Euronews website. A more challenging issue is to build comparable corpus from two different and independent media having two distinct editorial lines, such as British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Al Jazeera (JSC). To build such corpus, we propose to use the Cross-Lingual Latent Semantic approach. For this purpose, documents have been harvested from BBC and JSC websites for each month of the years 2012 and 2013. The comparability is calculated for each Arabic–English couple of documents of each month. This automatic task is then validated by hand. This led to a multilingual (Arabic–English) aligned corpus of 305 pairs of documents (233k English words and 137k Arabic words). In addition, a study is presented in this paper to analyze the performance of three methods of the literature allowing to measure the comparability of documents on the multilingual reference corpora. A recall at rank 1 of 50.16 per cent is achieved with the Cross-lingual LSI approach for BBC–JSC test corpus, while the dictionary-based method reaches a recall of only 35.41 per cent.

Abstract:
Building Better Caregivers (BBC), a community 6-week, peer-led intervention, targets family caregivers of those with cognitive impairments. BBC was implemented in four geographically scattered areas. Self-report data were collected at baseline, 6 months, and 1 year. Primary outcome were caregiver strain and depression. Secondary outcomes included caregiver burden, stress, fatigue, pain, sleep, self-rated health, exercise, self-efficacy, and caregiver and care partner health care utilization. Paired t tests examined 6 month and 1-year improvements. General linear models examined associations between baseline and 6-month changes in self-efficacy and 12-month primary outcomes. Eighty-three participants (75% of eligible) completed 12-month data. Caregiver strain and depression improved significantly (Effect Sizes = .30 and .41). All secondary outcomes except exercise and caregiver health care utilization improved significantly. Baseline and 6-month improvements in self-efficacy were associated with improvements in caregiver strain and depression. In this pilot pragmatic study, BBC appears to assist caregivers while reducing care partner health care utilization. Self-efficacy appears to moderate these outcomes.

Abstract:
This paper, entitled “Study of orientation and news coverage about Daesh crisis by websites of IRNA, BBC Persian and Voice of America”, comparatively explores structure and how to cover news in websites of IRNA, BBC Persian and the voice of America. The paper is conducted in descriptive-analytical method and by the way of content analysis. Data has been studied in library method. Survey and examination of existing documents as well as analysis of the content of news websites are presented in descriptive tables. The type of organization and how to cover news differ in three websites of BBC and IRNA, Voice of America. Every three websites have specifically emphasized on the element “who’’, “news value’’ and “fame’’, indicating their person-oriented and talk orientation. Finally, it was concluded that most published news are “non-productive’’ in three websites, however IRNA’s portion is more than others. Conceptually, the issue of Daesh group resistance, the employment of Jihadi groups, the effort to manifest Daesh an Islamic group, introducing Daesh governmental philosophy as an Islamic government and not mentionning to its terrorist nature has been under survey and attention of these three websites. The focus of IRNA and Voice of America is mostly on “hard news’’ but BBC concentrates on “soft news’’ or reflection of events along with complementary information. Publication of “photo’’ has been used as interactive and multi-media facilities by news websites. Unlike IRNA, websites of BBC and Voice of America have highly made use of Email and links to topics and relevant websites.

AbstractLaunched in 1938 as the BBC's first foreign language radio service, 80 years later, in 2008, the BBC Arabic Service also became the first tri-media platform at the World Service offering news and current affairs not only on radio and on online, but also via a fully fledged TV Channel in Arabic. This article traces the intervening transformations by exploring two critical moments in detail and examines why broadcasting to the Middle East has assumed such a pivotal position in the BBC's history. The first step examines selected internal communications between the British government and the BBC during World War Two, and the second outlines the BBC's current choices and strategy of combining the provision of 'impartial' news with new kinds of interactive programming and establishing opportunities for participation in mediated debates among audiences and users across the Middle East and the Arabic-speaking diasporas. Drawing on archival research, observational, and interview data, this article indicates enduring issues and themes that run through the history of the BBC Arabic services. The most important of these concern the dilemma of providing impartial news at the same time as promoting British diplomatic goals and strategic interests in the Greater Middle East.

ABSTRACTThe problem of physical fitness is still a global pandemic which is increasingly widespread in many circles of society. Singentari lifestyle is one of the factors causing health problems such as degenerative diseases, decreased physical fitness, injury prone, decreased cognitive function and so on. Students with a relatively high level of activity tend to ignore regular sports activities so that it has an impact on the low level of physical fitness. This study aims to test the effectiveness of using a fitness training product in the form of a “BBC Exercise” model for maintenance of physical fitness. This research was conducted at STKIP Citra Bakti Ngada, involving 15 students with an age range ≤19 years as research subjects. The research design used was a pre-experimental time series with a one group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected by measuring physical fitness using the TKJI format (Indonesian Physical Fitness Test). The results of the pretest-posttest difference test obtained the sig value. (2-tailed) paired samples t-test (0.000) is smaller than (0.05) or (p <0.05). This means that there is a significant effect of using the "BBC Exercise" model on changes in the physical fitness categories of students. Thus, it is concluded that the use of the "BBC Exercise" exercise model is proven to be "effective" in increasing physical fitness. ABSTRAKPermasalahan kebugaran jasmani hingga kini masih menjadi pandemi global yang semakin meluas pada banyak kalangan masyarakat. Pola hidup sendentari menjadi salah satu faktor penyebab timbulnya gangguan kesehatan seperti penyakit degeneratif, kebugaran jasmani menurun, rentan cedera, penurunan fungsi kognitif dan lain sebagainya.

AntPConc is the software that facilitates an unlimited data recognizing the frequency and collocation in order to get categorization of its context. Solidarity issue is concerned by BBC News and the Jakarta Post in delivering Rohingya issues. It is qualitatively aimed to identify the representation of Rohingya’s issue through grammatical meaning in both of media. As limitation, I employed the analysis as van Leeuwen framework (2008) and semantically (Saeed: 2016). To comprehend the result, the data is obtained in a week period that inputted to AntPconc. The data can identify representational meaning of Rohingya’s issue specializing grammatical meaning through frequency and collocation. The findings reveal that both of media have high solidarity toward Rohingya issues. Even though, BBC News is more explicit about raising the actor. Moreover, corpus linguistic also has the contribution to CDA-semantic study especially recontextualization meaning.

Abstract:
The accuracy of the finite element simulation of sheet metal forming processes is mainly influenced by the shape of the yield surface used in the mechanical model and, in particular, by the number of input values used in the identification of the yield surface. This paper investigates the effect of the input values used for identifying the BBC 2005 yield criterion on the accuracy of the finite element predictions. The accuracy assessment of the simulation is based on the comparison of the numerical predictions obtained using the commercially available FE programme AUTOFORM and experimental measurements obtained from the hydraulic bulging of sheet metals. Thickness and strain distributions, as well as the geometry of the bulged specimen were taken as comparison parameters. The accuracy of the finite element predictions obtained using the Hill-48 and Barlat-89 yield criteria is also studied and discussed in comparison with the results provided by the BBC 2005 yield and the experimental data.

Abstract:
Sentence patterns and types play a crucial role in helping writers make their articles attractive. However, few studies analyzed the sentence patterns and types used in news articles. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the sentence patterns and types used in shaping news articles. The researchers used a syntactic analysis to examine the sentences. The data were collected from ten BBC news articles published in October 2020. The purposive sampling was used, and the data gathering instrument was structured observation sheets. The gathered data were calculated using percentages. The results showed five sentence patterns used, namely S+V, S+LV+SC, S+V+O, S+V+DO+OC, and S+V+IO+DO. It was also found that four sentence types, namely simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences, were used. Among the used sentence patterns, S+V+O was the most frequent (42%), and the most frequent sentence type was the complex sentence (52.6%).

Abstract:
The study aims to enrich the available acoustic data pertaining to vowels of what may tentatively be called contemporary RP or near-RP. The corpus comprised BBC radio and TV broadcasts of seven male and seven female newsreaders. F1 and F2 measurements of 11 monophthongs (kit, dress, trap, foot, strut, lot, fleece, palm, goose, thoughtandnurse) and 4 diphthongs (goat, price, mouthandface) were taken. The results are presented both as raw mean F1 and F2 frequencies in Hertz and on a plot normalised according to Lobanov (1971). The results, among other things, confirm our hypothesis that the onset ofmouthis now decidedly fronter than and does not overlap with the onset ofprice.Furthermore, we sought to determine the exact extent ofgoose-fronting, which according to our data is, even in this variety of English, fronter than centre, as well as the quality of thegoatglide, which seems to be following suit.

Abstract:
e12575 Background: Patients with breast cancer who undergo surgery have a risk of developing multiple cancers in the contralateral breast and other organs. We have reported that the overexpression of satellite alpha transcripts (SAT) facilitates chromosomal instability, which is involved in the development of multiple tumors in patients with colorectal and gastric cancer. Methods: In this study, we elucidated the significance of SAT in the development of multiple tumors in patients with breast cancer. Relative expression SAT (rSAT) level was calculated in normal and tumor tissues from 167 patients. Twenty-seven patients developed bilateral breast cancer (BBC) and 27 patients showed multiple primary cancer (MPC). We detected that 71 patients had factors associated with inherited breast cancer; age under 50yo, harboring family history of breast cancer, pathological diagnosis of TNBC, and history of ovarian cancer and we determined these factors as BRCA-related clinical factors. Results: We excluded 71 patients with BRCA-related clinical features, rSAT levels were higher in patients with BBC and MPC than in patients with SBC in tumor tissues ( P = 0.0121) and normal tissues ( P = 0.00586). A univariate analysis indicated significant predictors including rSAT > 1.5 in tumor tissues, rSAT > 2.4 in normal tissues. In a multivariate analysis, rSAT > 2.4 in normal tissues was a significant predictor of BBC (HR, 22.7; P = 0.00120) and MPC (HR, 11.1; P = 0.00885). Conclusions: Our data indicated that patients with breast cancer with high rSAT levels in their breast tissues have a 10- to 20-fold increased risk for the development of multiple cancers when they harbored no BRCA-related clinical features. These patients had been excluded from the high-risk group for BBC, however, our results shed light on these patients and we detected another risk factor which could predict multiple cancers.

Abstract:
It is increasingly argued that models of Corporate Governance can be seen as an effective substitute for conventional state-centred social policy. This article examines the extent to which these contemporary business-led approaches are successful in remedying the gendered pay gap in the British labour market, using the latest Cabinet Office review on women's employment and pay in Britain: the Kingsmill Review, as its central example. The article outlines Kingsmill's recommendations and then analyses their efficacy by means of a ‘snap-shot’ case study of a large employing organisation which was identified as a ‘model employer’ by the Review and which has adopted many exemplary employment practices: the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The article employs analysis of a major original new data set to establish both the successes and limitations of these recommendations in overcoming the gender pay gap within the BBC.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper offers a formally driven quantitative analysis of stance-annotated sentences in the Brexit Blog Corpus (BBC). Our goal is to identify features that determine the formal profiles of six stance categories (contrariety, hypotheticality, necessity, prediction, source of knowledgeanduncertainty) in a subset of the BBC. The study has two parts: firstly, it examines a large number of formal linguistic features, such as punctuation, words and grammatical categories that occur in the sentences in order to describe the specific characteristics of each category, and secondly, it compares characteristics in the entire data set in order to determine stance similarities in the data set. We show that among the six stance categories in the corpus, contrarietyandnecessityare the most discriminative ones, with the former using longer sentences, more conjunctions, more repetitions and shorter forms than the sentences expressing other stances.necessityhas longer lexical forms but shorter sentences, which are syntactically more complex. We show that stance in our data set is expressed in sentences with around 21 words per sentence. The sentences consist mainly of alphabetical characters forming a varied vocabulary without special forms, such as digits or special characters.

Abstract:
Renewable energy has recently been a promising interest as a substitute for fossil fuels due to an increasing energy demand as well as a rising concern over the environmental impact of fossil fuel consumption around the globe. Biofuel, in particular, is a type of renewable energy, which can be derived from various biomass types. In this research, we analyze relative efficiencies using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique from three types of energy-related plants in the Northeastern region of Thailand, which are cassava, sugarcane, and palm. The relative efficiency of each province is further analyzed during 2017 to 2019 for a comparative study. Next, the input criteria are collected including allowable planting area, labor cost, and rainfall amount; whereas the included output criterion is the quantity of harvested product. Our initial analysis using CCR, BBC, and Scale Efficiency (SE) models of DEA provides the baseline of efficient provinces to be benchmarked and directions for improving inefficient provinces, given desired input and output criteria in this study.

Abstract:
The Kilkari programme is being implemented by the Government of India in 13 states. Designed by BBC Media Action and scaled in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from January 2016, Kilkari had provided mobile health information to over 10 million subscribers by the time BBC Media Action transitioned the service to the government in April 2019. Despite the reach of Kilkari in terms of the absolute number of subscribers, no longitudinal analysis of subscriber exposure to health information content over time has been conducted, which may underpin effectiveness and changes in health outcomes. In this analysis, we draw from call data records to explore exposure to the Kilkari programme in India for the 2018 cohort of subscribers. We start by assessing the timing of the first successful call answered by subscribers on entry to the programme during pregnancy or postpartum, and then assess call volume, delivery, answering and listening rates over time. Findings suggest that over half of subscribers answer their first call after childbirth, with the remaining starting in the pregnancy period. The system handles upwards of 1.2 million calls per day on average. On average, 50% of calls are picked up on the first call attempt, 76% by the third and 99.5% by the ninth call attempt. Among calls picked up, over 48% were listened to for at least 50% of the total content duration and 43% were listened to for at least 75%. This is the first analysis of its kind of a maternal mobile messaging programme at scale in India. Study analyses suggest that multiple call attempts may be required to reach subscribers. However, once answered, subscribers tend to listen the majority of the call—a figure consistent across states, over time, and by health content area.

Abstract:
The history of the BBC's regional programming is one of perennial tension between representing and reflecting the diversity of the UK's nations and regions and what is often perceived as an unrelenting ‘metropolitan centricity’. Through charting the mixed fortunes of English-language arts television for and about Wales, this article examines how the narrow range of cultural representation available on BBC television is situated within a public service broadcasting strategy that continues to regard regional arts as inherently ‘provincial’ and as such, inferior to that of London. The data and analysis presented derives from a broader study based on 21 qualitative interviews conducted with key figures directly involved in the production and commissioning of arts content across the BBC's television, radio and online services. The accounts provided by these interviewees are also contextualised by analysis of broadcasting policy and internal BBC documents, including annual yearbooks and reports. The article concludes by arguing that if the BBC is to reflect more adequately the true diversity of the UK's nations and regions and the distinct arts and cultures constituted within them, it must start by devolving its commissioning powers more equally. Rather than merely shifting centralisation from London to allocated ‘centres of excellence’ such as Scotland in the case of arts broadcasting, an effective public service arts proposition should strive to give greater autonomy and agency to the nations and regions so that they might build their arts strategies in their own image as opposed to that of the capital.

Business texts are included within the informative texts which are the texts whose primary goal is to provide information. They usually include explanations, descriptions, analysis and expository details and examples. The research focuses on the business reports provided by the BBC. The business service in the BBC provides a complete coverage of the market data, economy, companies, technology of business and the entrepreneurship. In this research business reports have been chosen to examine the employment of cultural concepts and the impact a definite culture may have within the frame of highly informative texts; i.e. the business texts. This research is concerned with (business journalism) which covers news and features articles about people, places, and issues related to business. Business journalists may also cover processes, trends, consequences, and important people. The use of cultural concepts in business reports is not one of the main features of the language of business, but it is much related to the traits of journalism with its main goal of capturing the reader`s attention. what the research seeks is the impact of such use of cultural concepts on the understanding of business information.

Abstract:
The nature of qualitative research means that the personal values of an individual researcher can and do (unwittingly) shape the way in which they analyse data sets, and the resultant conclusions drawn. However this phenomenon is under-studied in social research and this article seeks to help rectify this. This article presents findings from a small research project focused on discourses of class, masculinity and work among British male comedians from working-class backgrounds, interviewed on the popular BBC Radio 4 radio programme Desert Island Discs. Six different researchers, from varying disciplinary, methodological and theoretical groundings, as well as from varying personal backgrounds, analysed three interview recordings and transcripts separately. All the researchers wrote up their individual analyses of these interviews and wrote reflexive pieces examining why they thought they approached the data as they did. The researchers then came together as a group to compare and contrast findings and approaches. The results from this study, including the discrepancies and distinctions and final group analysis, are reported alongside a thorough discussion of the project’s methodology. We find that the project evidenced how a diverse research team can bring out deeper and richer analyses, and was a refreshing way to try and answer questions of individual and collective positionality

In order to evaluate an “ecologic” alternative for the control of the white worm potato (<em>Premnotrypes vorax</em>), were studied six <em>Beauveria bassiana </em>and one of <em>Metharizium anisopliae </em>isolates, native of Nariño, Colombia.Their pathogenicity and variability were observed under laboratory conditions using a concentration of 1x107 spores.ml-1. All the biocontrol densities evaluated were pathogenic to <em>P. vorax</em>; however, there were big differences among the mortality caused by the isolates (F7,14 = 4.64; P<0.0001), they varied from 13.3% for Bb2 up to 96.6% for Bb5. Later, on lethal concentration made by Probit - Raymon’s analysis (1985), was established for each isolate in two development phases of <em>P. vorax </em>(larve and adults). The results presented a positive relation concentration/mortality and the calculated X2 proved that the data were homogeneous and adjusted to the linear regression with a 95% level of confidence. The higher mortality percentage was found in the two phases of the isolates Bb4, Bb5, Bb7 and Bb8, for that, there was security to establish the mortality base line; on the other hand, the CL99 where smaller, reason why they were pre selected for a future field study.</p>

Abstract:
The present study focuses on expressions of emotion in online news and blogs and the way in which they contribute to shaping the co-construction of information about an issue of public concern (more specifically the environmental issue) and the discoursal identities of participant communities. The theoretical framework of analysis is based on recent developments in discourse studies and appraisal theory on language about emotions. The corpus of data (BBC online articles and readers’ comments) have been analysed adapting the classification system of affect-types elaborated by Bednarek (2008). However limited, the data offer interesting and unexpected insights into participation to news construction and user-generated content: the way in which news and information are reported (the mediated ‘narrative’) elicits more language about emotion and concern than the central issue at stake (the environmental problem).

Abstract:
Background: Speech or language therapy is typically initiated reactively after a child starts showing delays. Infants with classic galactosemia (CG), an inborn error of metabolism with a known high risk for both speech and language disorders, hold the keys towards evaluating whether preventive treatment is effective when the risks are known at birth. We present pilot data from a randomized parallel trial of an innovative proactive speech and language intervention program, the Babble Boot Camp (BBC). Method: Five children with CG, otherwise healthy, participated in the BBC from approximately 2 to 24 months of age. One of these was randomly selected as control receiving conventional management. A pediatric speech-language pathologist met weekly via telepractice with the parents in the treatment cohort. Parents implemented the prespeech, speech, and language stimulation and expansion activities according to the protocol. The control child was still too young for conventional treatment. Primary outcome measures were speech sound production complexity in babble and speech and expressive vocabulary size. Secondary outcome measures were developmental milestones in communication, motor, and cognition. Outcomes in the treatment cohort were compared to typical children and the control child. The trial is ongoing. Results: All four treated children had higher speech sound skills in babble, three had higher speech sound skills in meaningful speech, two had higher expressive vocabularies, and three had higher communication and personal-social skills, compared to the control child with CG. Discussion: Given the high risk for speech and language delays in children with CG, finding on-schedule abilities in two or more of the treated children but not the untreated child is unexpected under random conditions. The trends toward beneficial effects of the BBC on speech sound production, expressive language, and communication milestones warrant appropriately powered larger clinical trials with full randomization. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03838016 (12th February 2019).
