Abstract:
Recent applications of quantum computing is the design and evaluations on the reversible logic technology. The digital systems widely utilize the code conversion technology in enhancing the data security and also minimize the required hardware. This nano-metric technology is high prolific in digital systems as it minimize the power consumption in logic circuits. This paper proposes the reversible logic design for such a code conversion including the binary to gray code, gray to binary code, BCD to excess 3 codes, excess 3 to BCD code.

In this paper, we have proposed the optimized BCD to Excess-3 code converter using reversible logic gate. BCD to Excess-3 code can be generated by adding “0011” to BCD number, but in the proposed work, addition is not required. The proposed reversible circuit can be designed using peres gate, Feynman gate and NOT gate optimized quantum cost, garbage output and constant input. The quantum cost (QC), garbage output and constant input of proposed reversible BCD to Excess-3 code converter are respectively 14, 1 and 1 which is better with respect to previously reported results. The realization of quantum computing is not possible without the implementation of reversible logic, and reversible designs are presented mainly to minimize the thermal loss because of the data input bits lost in the irreversible circuit. The binary results of the 1 × 1-digit multiplications are organized according to their two-digit positions to generate the 2-digit column-based partial products. The BCH encoding is the same as cyclic encoding and can be done with linear feedback shift register but decoding is more complex and can be done with different algorithms - in this thesis there are two algorithms for decoding Peterson and Berlekam-Massey mentioned. Distributed source coding, separate encoding (compression) and joint decoding of statistically dependent sources, arises in an increasing number of applications like sensor networks and multiview video coding. Currently, this compression is performed by using capacity-approaching binary channel codes. Equivocation was introduced by Shannon in the late 1940’s in seminal papers that kick-started the whole field of information theory. Much ground has been covered on equivocation’s counterpart, channel capacity and in particular, its bounds. However, less work has been carried out on the evaluation of the equivocation of a code transmitted across a channel. The aim of the work covered in this thesis was to use a probabilistic approach to investigate and compare the equivocation of various codes across a range of channels.
