The glass samples in bismuth borate glass matrix containing Al2O3, with the composition of xAl2O3 : 30Bi2O3 : (70-x)B2O3 where x are Al2O3 concentration varying from 0.0, 2.0, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 mol%, have been prepared. The obtained glasses were investigated some physical and optical properties. The results showed that the densities increased with increasing of Al2O3 concentration, whereas the molar volumes decreased. For the absorption spectra, no peak in the UV to NIR regions has been observed. Moreover the energy band gap and the refractive index for all samples have been calculated.

The electrical properties of semiconductor systems of spherical GaAs / AlxGa1-xAs quantum dots of various dimensions, depending on the energy of the Fermi level and temperature, and the concentration of aluminum in the matrix, are investigated. Dependences of group velocity of electrons on the index of minisons were obtained. Reducing the CT radius, as well as increasing the aluminum concentration in the matrix, results in an increase in group velocity. The change in the sign of the group velocity of individual minisons is caused by the behavior of the isoenergetic surfaces of these minisons.

The behaviour of the luminescence spectra of the organic dye R6G in a multiple scattering polymer matrix was studied with reference to the parameters of the scattering media. It was found that some of the luminescent parameters depend on the concentration of scattering particles, the refractive index of the scattering particles and the sample thickness. As it was shown, that the reason for these dependences is the reabsorption of luminescence light enhanced by multiple light scattering. In addition, an increase in the absorption caused by multiple scattering was observed.
