Abstract:
We have studied the effect of mechanical load and friction on the wear of the male and matrix of ball and beam fixation systems during their mechanical separation. A high level of fixation of cover removable dentures was revealed for 2 years, further maintenance of which can be ensured by replacing matrices. The analysis shows that the beam system significantly outperforms the ball system, due to the minimum loss of linear dimensions and does not require the restoration of the actual patric element.

Treatment of patients with secondary partial adentia is still relevant today, since the prevalence of this pathology remains high. The need for orthopedic treatment with removable dentures, according to various authors, ranges from 30 to 60%. However, not all patients use removable dentures made for them. The reasons may be: a poorly made prosthesis, a problem with fixation, the psychological mood of the patient, and more.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE Transarticular screw fixation of the C1–C2 complex provides immediate rigid fixation of the unstable spine. The technique is not feasible in a certain proportion of patients because of the position of the vertebral artery or the patient's body habitus. CLINICAL PRESENTATION The authors describe a rigid screw technique for the surgical treatment of a woman who was excluded as a candidate for C1–C2 transarticular screw fixation. TECHNIQUE C1–C2 pedicle screw fixation was achieved using a fixed moment arm cantilever beam system. This system provided immediate rig

The article presents a comparison of the methods of modeling the underactuated ball and beam system. This study was carried out to select a model suitable for the development of a control system using the model-based design methodology. Firstly, the approach commonly used in research was verified. It was also examined whether it is important to take into account the eccentric fixation in these models. An original model taking into account friction resistance was also proposed. The considered models were simulated in Matlab/Simulink software environments and verified in reality. The obtained re

The femoral stem primary stability achieved by the impaction of a beam called “ancillary” attached to the implant during its insertion is an important factor of success in cementless surgery. However, surgeons rely on their proprioception, making the process subjective. The use of experimental modal analysis (EMA) without sensor nor probe fixation on the implant or on the bone is a promising non-destructive approach to determine implant stability. This study investigates whether EMA performed directly on a beam, which is temporary fixed to the implant during its insertion, could provide inform

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive, neurological movement disorder. The stability of eye movements in PD is not well understood but many patients report difficulty doing tasks that require stabilized fixation and gaze. The ability to stabilize an image on the retina is critical is acquiring visual information. The purpose of this study was to compare the stability of fixational eye movements of PD patients to those of age-matched controls. Eye movements during simple fixation tasks were recorded from 66 subjects (ages 52 to 84), and 36 age-matched controls (ages 58-85). The absolute vel

Direct fixation fasteners are one of the most important elements in trackwork design. Elastomeric pads are incorporated in the fastener to provide vertical and horizontal flex and they assist in the reduction of noise, vibration and impact. The spring rate in DFF is often adjusted to mitigate ground borne vibration, that adjustment then affects the track modulus. Currently no industry-wide specifications exist for the design, definition or procurement of direct fixation fasteners. Abstract A method to improve the mechanical fixation of a total knee replacement (TKR) implant is clinically important and is the purpose of this study. More than one million joint replacement procedures are performed in people each year in the United States, and experts predict the number to increase six-fold by the year 2030. Whether cemented or uncemented, joint prostheses may destabilize over time and necessitate revision. Approximately 40,000 hip arthroplasty surgeries have to be revised each year and the rate is expected to increase by approximately 140% (and by 600% for total knee repla
