As a significant component of rotation machinery, bearing plays a role in supporting and transmitting power. However, bearings are subject to complex operating conditions and are prone to failure. To avoid ineffectiveness and improve the reliability of bearings, a data-driven method is used to predict the remaining useful life (RUL). However, this method is less stable and can only forecast the RUL of bearings under training sample conditions. An ensemble deep, long-term, and short-term memory (EDLSTM) method is proposed to solve this problem. First, the feature of the forecast-bearing RUL was

Abstract The condition monitoring of bearings and wheels is pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient transport of freight within the railway industry. Bearing seizures remains an issue that can lead to catastrophic train derailments, affirming the importance of effective monitoring practices. Existing wayside detection devices, such as Hot Bearing Detectors (HBDs) and Trackside Acoustic Detection Systems (TADS™), track, respectively, the operating temperature and acoustic emissions of bearings at discrete intervals as trains pass by these systems. However, these systems have demonstrated ina

Abstract Fully ceramic bearings have been demonstrated to provide a forty to fifty percent reduction in weight over steel bearings. They can also provide improved reliability due to increased corrosion protection. One of the primary challenges to incorporating ceramic bearings is the coefficient of thermal expansion mismatch between the ceramic bearing races and its mating surfaces. The application of a tolerance ring was developed to address these challenges. The tolerance ring was applied between the inner bearing race and the pinion shaft to retain the race and absorb the thermal expansion

One type of test performed for evaluating bearings for application into turbomachinery is the synchronous bearing response to rotor imbalance. This paper presents rotordynamic tests on a rotor system using a 70mm diameter damped gas bearing reaching ultra-high speeds of 50,000 rpm. The main objective of the study was to experimentally evaluate the ability of the damped gas bearing to withstand large rotor excursions and provide adequate damping through critical speed transitions. Two critical speeds were excited through varying amounts and configurations of rotor imbalance, while measuring syn

A Clegg Impact Tester, also known as a Clegg Hammer, is a portable device invented by Dr. Baden Clegg to assess surface shock absorption and bearing capacity. It measures the strength of soils, aggregates, and synthetic materials for roads and sports surfaces. The tester consists of a compaction hammer, guiding tube, and piezoelectric accelerometer. It quantifies a surface's ability to withstand structural load and offers insights into strength, stiffness, and stability. The hammer is dropped from a specific height, and its impact is measured. Clegg Impact Testers are used for various applicat

Similar to most metering technologies, turbine meters are known to be affected by abnormal flow or abnormal mechanical conditions which can cause bias in flow measurement. These types of flow conditions include blockage at the flow meter or straightening vanes, grime or liquid contamination on the internal meter components, damage to the internal meter components, and pulsation in the flow. With the introduction of ultrasonic and Coriolis meters for gas applications, the natural gas industry has embraced the concept of meters with embedded diagnostic capabilities. Our previous work indicated that suspension-cultured plant cells show remarkable flexibility in altering cell wall structure in response either to growth on saline medium or in the presence of the cellulose synthesis inhibitor 2,-6-dichlorobenzonitrile (DCB). We have continued to analyze the structure of these modified cell walls to understand how the changes modify wall strength, porosity, and ability to expand. The major load-bearing network in the walls of DCB-adapted dicot cells that lack a substantial cellulose-xyloglucan network is comprised of Ca2+-bridged pectates; these cells also hav
