Abstract:
A system of two taper roller bearings can carry loads with a high ratio of axial load to radial load. Such a system was proposed for a wind turbine gearbox following the poor durability of original bearing design with the aim of increasing durability. Because of size limits, a proposed system is composed of two different taper roller bearings. Standard manufacturers’ catalogues do not provide information on recommended preload or clearance conditions or the durability as a function of pre-load. That was the reason why durability was calculated on the basis of software provided by one of the ma

This paper presents a method of determining the reliability function of rolling bearings operating under conditions of assembly error. Both the random nature of the assembly errors and the hour-by-hour durability of the bearing in question were considered. The perturbation method of second moments was used to solve the problem. This method allows for determining the moments of first and second order of the probability distribution of the safety coefficient, which is understood as the ratio of the actual durability in hours to the predetermined bearing durability in hours. As an example, the me

During the operation of wind turbines with a gearbox of traditional configuration, a high failure rate of high-speed shaft bearings is observed. Such a high failures frequency is not reflected in standard bearing durability calculation methods, which can be attributed to atypical failure mechanism. To avoid observed problems in the 1.5 MW wind turbine, the modification of the existing bearing system is proposed. Multiple options, utilizing various bearing types were investigated. Different versions were examined for a potential durability increase, the extent of necessary design modifications,

In this paper, the wear performance of polymer radial ball bearings (PEEK-PTFE and PPS-PTFE) were investigated. For effective operation of equipment in clean energy facilities environment, the polymer bearings were developed. These polymer bearings were produced by machining and their rolling contact fatigue (RCF) behavior under non-lubricated condition was carried out. PEEK accumulation layer with PTFE and graphite was formed on the bearing's inner ring under 3000 rpm high rotation speed. Due to the self-lubrication of PEEK layer, the wear loss of PEEK-PTFE bearing was lower than PPS-PTFE rad

The paper discusses durability test methods for wheel bearings. Through studying on the offset between the center line of a wheel and the center line on which the tire is forced, we get the determination method for the simulating load position on the wheel bearing . Depending on the influence study of inner circle or outer circle rotating method to the life performance of the wheel bearings, we give the test method on the bench. Based on the discussing of the bench monitoring method of wheel bearings, we give the effective and simple method to determine the failure of wheel bearings with Kur t

Abstract:
Angular contact ball bearings are commonly used when high stiffness of the bearing is needed. However, a significant stiffness increase can be achieved only through introducing preload (mounting tightness) to the system of angular ball bearings. The aim of the study is to determine how the location of a plane of a load influences the selection of preload in a system of angular contact ball bearings, and, in consequence, the durability of the bearing.
