Recent campaigns to increase the percentage of households owning a bed net have been very successful yet there remains a subset of the population who do not sleep under bed nets. We used data from the 2008 Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) to compare children under the age of five years of age who slept under any bed net to children sleeping without a bed net who resided in households with: i) no bed net; ii) all bed nets used (intra-household access); and iii) at least one unused bed net. Abstract This paper examines the extent to which bed net usage is responsive to changes in malaria prevalence and whether indoor residual spraying crowds out bed net usage. We show that malaria prevalence increases the probability of sleeping under an insecticide treated net but the implied elasticities are below one. For children under five, a one percentage point increase in malaria prevalence increases the probability of sleeping under a bed net by 0.41 percentage point. We find that indoor residual spraying does not crowd out bed net usage. Instead, children under five who live in houses t

High coverage is crucial for containment. Energy and Chemicals are the backbone for development in this modern age and are generally met by Oil and Gas. India being a net importer of Oil is looking towards better utilization of Coal. Coal gasification produces syngas that can further be used in for power generation, production of liquid fuels through FT synthesis and intermediate chemicals like methanol, DME etc. and thus meeting the requirement of New India. Normally three types of beds are used viz. moving, entrained and fluidized bed gasifier for coal gasification. Among various gasifier types, Fluidised bed gasifier is preferred c

Abstract 3D-printing or additive manufacturing (AM) can be a size-constrained and time-consuming manufacturing method compared to those traditionally used. Printing larger structures as a net could be a possible solution to this limitation. The intent behind this work is to establish a methodology for creating 3D structures with discretized planner segments using smaller printer envelopes. Nets of solids are capable of folding into an enclosed body from coplanar shapes. Nets can be utilized to create larger objects not otherwise possible due to space limitations in manufacturing methods. Chain

Obtaining reliable estimates of aerodynamic roughness is necessary to interpret and accurately predict aeolian sediment transport dynamics. However, inherent uncertainties in field measurements and models of surface aerodynamic properties continue to undermine aeolian research, monitoring, and dust modeling. A new relation between aerodynamic shelter and land surface shadow has been established at the wind tunnel scale, enabling the potential for estimates of wind erosion and dust emission to be obtained across scales from albedo data. Here, we compare estimates of wind friction velocity (u*)

Abstract:
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), during 2016 there were 7,277,000 vehicle crashes nationally. Among them, approximately 70% happened during the daytime and around 30% of crashes occurred during the nighttime. There were 11,375 nighttime fatal crashes that account for about 48% of total fatal crashes (23,714). Given the fact that only 25%–33% of the vehicle miles traveled (VMT) occur at night, the above statistics indicate that the nighttime crash fatality rate is much higher and nighttime crashes are usually more severe compared to daytime crashes. Nitivattananon, Suchaya. Hydrodynamic of mixed-feed in circulating fluidized bed. Chulalongkorn University, 2009. https://doi.org/10.58837/chula.res.2009.32.

Abstract:
The research was conducted in a circulating fluidized bed having diameter and height of riser of 5 and 200 cm., respectively, at ambient temperature and pressure. The objective was to study hydrodynamics of mixed-feed between sand and various biomasses including rice husk, sawdust, and bagasse at 50% by volume. The air flow rate was in the range of 4.2-5.7 m/s. The velocity of sand in the riser was obtained by using a high speed camera and an image processing software. The results showed that at the lowest gas velocity the velocities of sand in the mixture were higher than those in the single

Abstract:
The East Asian crisis is not all bad news for the United States and Canada (North America). Net debtors in North America – be they individual families refinancing their mortgages, businesses financing their expansion, or the U.S. government financing its debt – should benefit from the crisis, as it continues to put downward pressure on interest rates. While the crisis hurts North American farm exports, it presents opportunities for expansion in North American exports of processed foods. The study estimates that the benefits accruing to North American food producers far outweigh the losses to f

Laser and electron-beam powder bed fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing (AM) technology has transitioned from prototypes and tooling to production components in demanding fields such as medicine and aerospace. Some of these components have geometries that can only be made using AM. Initial applications either take advantage of the relatively high surface roughness of metal PBF parts, or they are in fatigue, corrosion, or flow environments where surface roughness does not impose performance penalties. To move to the next levels of performance, the surfaces of laser and electron-beam PBF componen

Abstract:
Recent concerns regarding global warming and energy security have accelerated research and developmental efforts to produce biofuels from agricultural and forestry residues, and energy crops. Anaerobic digestion is a promising process for producing biogas-biofuel from biomass feedstocks. However, there is a need for new reactor designs and operating considerations to process fibrous biomass feedstocks. In this research project, the multiphase flow behavior of biomass particles was investigated. The objective was accomplished through both simulation and experimentation. The simulations included
