Nuhu, Kaamel M. "DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH-SEEKING BEHAVIOR IN GHANA." OpenSIUC, 2018. https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/dissertations/1539.

Full text
Abstract:
Health can be described as both a product and a process of life, and is necessary for human wellbeing, overall quality of life and productivity. While health is generally desirable, many factors affect health and health outcomes of individuals and populations the world over. Virtually all individuals will be faced with one health problem or another during their lifetime, that requires some form of health care intervention. Whatever their reasons for seeking care, all health care consumers share a common interest – a desire to get better. In a pluralistic health care environment where different avenues exist for seeking and receiving health care, differential choice of care may be influenced by sociodemographic and related factors. To the extent that the available avenues for seeking and receiving health care do not offer the same opportunities for improving health, significantly different health outcomes may be realized for comparable conditions for which different types and volume of health care are sought and received. Understanding the factors that influence health-seeking behaviors among various populations may therefore, be an important first step in designing intervention programs that nudge health consumers toward better health-seeking behaviors with the goal to improving health and health outcomes among these populations. The purpose of this research was to develop a research instrument for studying health-seeking behaviors based on the Health Belief Model, and to use the instrument to study the factors that influence/predict health-seeking behaviors among Ghanaians. Using a convenience sample of 504 participants recruited from the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta and Northern Regions, analyses of the data showed that different sociodemographic characteristics such as age group, gender and health insurance status as well as selected modified constructs of the Health Belief Model such as Perceived Barriers to mainstream care, variously and collectively influence health-seeking behaviors at government and private health facilities, self-medication with herbal and pharmaceutical drugs, faith healing and care from traditional/herbal practitioners. Based on the findings of this study, the author concludes that health-seeking behaviors in Ghana are influenced by a multiplicity of factors including sociodemographic characteristics. Subsequently, recommendations for a more extensive study with a complementary qualitative enquiry are made in order to gain a more wholistic insight of the drivers of health-seeking behaviors in Ghana.

Gadiraju, Tejaswini. "Investigating the Determinants of Recycling Behavior in Youth by Using Theory of Planned Behavior." Scholar Commons, 2016. http://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/6085.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this study is to understand the determinants that influence the youth recycling behavior intention. In other words, this study wants to know the motivations and barriers behind university students’ recycling behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), which provides a theoretical framework for systematically identifying the determinants of recycling behavior, is the basis for this study. Along with the TPB variables, additional predictor variables (moral norm, past experience, knowledge of how and what to recycle, knowledge of consequences, and inconvenience) that can influence behavior intentions were tested in the study. Online survey was used to collect the required information and the sample consists of 172 students from University of South Florida. The findings suggest that past recycling experience is the major contributor to recycling behavior. Moral norm, knowledge of how and what to recycle and knowledge of consequences are also significant predictors of recycling behavior. In other words, students are more likely to form the intention to recycle, when they have prior experience with recycling on campus, if they personally feel recycling is the right thing to do, when they have appropriate knowledge of recycling and when they are aware of consequences of recycling. Recommendations to promote recycling behavior among students are discussed in this study.

Churchill, Robert. "Identification of environmental determinants of behavior disorders through functional analysis of precursor behaviors." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2001. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc2814/.

Full text
Abstract:
Methods for the determining the functional properties of problem behaviors are necessary for the design of successful treatments. Many of the currently utilized methodologies are chosen based on their speed, ease of application or for the perceived risk-reduction they afford. However, when thoroughly analyzed many of these methods fall short of their intended purpose. The current study attempted to assess dangerous problem behavior through a functional assessment of functionally related precursor behaviors during analog sessions. Results indicate that for three participants, placing the reinforcing contingencies on these related precursor behaviors produced differentiated outcomes during the assessment. These outcomes matched the outcomes of assessments of the more dangerous problem behaviors.

Zietlow, Kim J. "Socio-demographic and psychological determinants of water conservation behavior." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Lebenswissenschaftliche Fakultät, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/17425.

Full text
Abstract:
Water is one of the most important resources. However, the global water deficit was estimated to reach about 40% by 2030. Climate change, changing lifestyles, and population growth increase the supply and demand gap further. As a consequence, more and more regions experience water scarcity. In that context, reduced household water demand due to enhanced water conservation could alleviate the problem or, at least, reduce the pressure on water resources. Thus, this thesis aims to contribute to a better understanding of the socio-demographic and psychological determinants of water conservation behavior. Based on three distinct datasets from Germany and Jordan, the manifold facets of water conservation and its determinants were examined. From a conceptual perspective, the relationship between water conservation and environmental attitude, a latent construct representing cooperative, prosocial, and even moral tendencies, were investigated. Furthermore, water conservation in Germany was used as a proxy for moral behavior. In that respect, environmental attitude and the personality factor Honesty-Humility were compared in order to determine, which factor constitutes the better predictor of moral behavior. Using original data from Jordan, a comprehensive impact evaluation of a water conservation awareness campaign revealed detailed information on its actual effects. Another analysis focused on a wide variety of water conservation determinants in Jordan. The results indicate that water conservation does not differ with respect to age, education, and income, but rather with different levels of environmental attitude. This thesis provides valuable information for researchers and policy makers alike. The detailed examination of various water conservation determinants offer a great potential for an improved management of household water demand.

Lim, Daniel. "Essays on the Determinants of Prosocial Behavior in Singapore." Thesis, Harvard University, 2015. http://nrs.harvard.edu/urn-3:HUL.InstRepos:17467196.

Full text
Abstract:
Previous research has sought to explain why people engage in prosocial behavior and undertake activities that are costly to themselves and mostly benefit others, such as volunteering and donating. My dissertation comprises three essays that collectively explore the determinants of prosocial behavior and leverages insights from behavioral economics to design interventions to nudge people to behave more prosocially. The first essay is an observational study that examines how rapid demographic changes reduced informal volunteering but not formal volunteering in Singapore. The findings suggest that structural factors such as racial diversification and the availability of institutions that promote inclusiveness could be more important than individual-level characteristics in explaining prosocial behavior. The second essay is a field experiment that explores how tailoring messages to resonate with peoples' underlying motivations for volunteering can increase their likelihood of actually volunteering. The third essay examines how behavioral modifications to public engagement campaigns can increase their effectiveness in changing behaviors. Overall, the second and third essays suggest that actual volunteering behavior is the realization of interactions between innate propensities to volunteer and situational factors. For example, non-volunteers might have a lower predisposition for volunteering compared to current volunteers, but they can still be nudged to volunteer if exposed to the appropriate type of messaging. Similarly, individuals with high prosocial tendencies might never get around to volunteering because they procrastinate or possess time-inconsistent preferences. We therefore have to account for situational factors in order to develop a complete understanding of why people behave prosocially.

Abstract:
My dissertation explores different determinants of job search behavior in order to highlight some obstacles in the access to jobs, in particular among disadvantaged workers. The first chapter evaluates a collective counselling program for young workers from deprived neighborhoods. This program seems more effective in helping participants access a stable job. The largest effect is found among participants assigned to groups with peers who have relatively bad employment prospects. In the second chapter, I study how an information shock affects the job search of unemployed workers and their access to employment. My findings suggest that providing information to help disadvantaged job seekers target firms which have large short-term hiring needs could contribute to correct inequalities in job access and increase geographic mobility. The third chapter explores the mechanisms behind the well-documented negative impact of unemployment insurance on re-employment rate. I highlight a 25% spike in job search intensity in the months surrounding benefits exhaustion, when controlling for dynamic selection. A benefits extension increases unemployment duration mostly by postponing the spike in search intensity associated with benefits exhaustion

Abstract:
Individuals are considered the weakest link when it comes to securing a personal computer system. All the technological solutions can be in place, but if individuals do not make appropriate security protection decisions they introduce holes that technological solutions cannot protect. This study investigates what personal characteristics influence differences in individual security behaviors, defined as behaviors to protect against security threats, by adapting Protection Motivation Theory into an information security context. This study developed and validated an instrument to measure individual security behaviors. It then tested the differences in these behaviors using the security research model, which built from Protection Motivation Theory, and consisted of perceived security vulnerability, perceived security threat, security self-efficacy, response efficacy, and protection cost. Participants, representing a sample population of home computer users with ages ranging from 20 to 83, provided 279 valid responses to surveys. The behaviors studied include using anti-virus software, utilizing access controls, backing up data, changing passwords frequently, securing access to personal computers, running software updates, securing wireless networks, using care when storing credit card information, educating others in one's house about security behaviors, using caution when following links in emails, running spyware software, updating a computer's operating system, using firewalls, and using pop-up blocking software. Testing the security research model found different characteristics had different impacts depending on the behavior studied. Implications for information security researchers and practitioners are provided, along with ideas for future research.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the factors behind what determine household saving behaviour. Observing the persistence differences of household saving ratio in OECD countries, serves as the base for the empirical study. Taking stance from economic theory and previous papers to formulate the method and likely explanatory variables suitable for this study, a model is specified based on the theoretical and empirical discussions. The result of the empirical analysis estimation finds that the explanatory variables accomplish to explain some of the household saving behaviour. Confirming and expanding on the discussion on the theoretical and empirical discussions. Factors such as uncertainty and fiscal policy are found to have a significant effect on household saving, while failing to prove other established determinants, like demographic factors. Among other included factors considered.

My dissertation explores the political behavior of different groups, including immigrants, the youth, and uneducated and marginalized citizens - focusing on their registration and turnout decisions, as well as vote choices, political interest, and competence. I conducted three randomized field experiments in France and combined public electoral records with comprehensive phone and in person surveys to address the following questions: 1) What factors, including costs, information, and attitudes explain people's failure to register and vote, as well as their choice to vote for an extremist party, and 2) How do institutions and political campaigns affect these factors? In many countries (including the US) citizens must register before voting. The first chapter, coauthored with Céline Braconnier (Universite de Cergy-Pontoise) and Jean-Yves Dormagen (Universite Montpellier 1), provides experimental evidence on the impact of this additional hurdle on the size and composition of the electorate. Prior to the 2012 French presidential and parliamentary elections, 20,500 households were randomly assigned to one control or six treatment groups. Treatment households received home canvassing visits providing either information about registration or help to register at home. We show that France's registration requirements have significant effects on turnout and disproportionately discourage marginalized citizens on the left of the political spectrum. While both types of visits increased registration and turnout, the home registration visits had a higher impact than the information-only visits, indicating that both information costs and administrative costs are barriers to registration. Visits paid closer to the registration deadline were also more effective, suggesting that registration requirements' effects are reinforced by procrastination. Our design allows us to distinguish selection and treatment effects of home registration. We find that home registration included additional citizens who were only slightly less likely to vote than those who would have registered anyway, and did not reduce turnout among the latter. On the contrary, citizens induced to vote due to the visits also became more interested in the elections. Overall, these results suggest that the reduction of registration requirements could substantially increase political participation and improve representation of marginalized groups without debasing the average level of competence and informedness among voters. Immigrants in Europe have a low sense of national belonging that affects their well-being and social cohesion in the receiving societies. This low sense of belonging is often interpreted as the result of low socioeconomic status, lack of efforts to integrate, or stigmatization. The second chapter, coauthored with Guillaume Liegey, provides empirical evidence for a complementary theory centered on the paucity of outreach efforts extending a hand to immigrants. During the 2010 French regional elections, 1,350 buildings hosting 23,836 citizens were randomly assigned to receive canvassers' visits. Supporting our theory, the visits had a larger effect on immigrants' turnout than on the mainstream population, although their propensity to vote was initially similar. More broadly, exploring heterogeneous effects of an identical encouragement to vote is shown to usefully complement comparisons of turnout levels to assess the influence of factors such as immigrant origin and race on electoral participation and integration. Since the turn of the century, political campaigns have devoted increasing resources to door-to-door canvassing, in response to compelling evidence about the impact on voter turnout. However, we lack clear evidence on the impact of door-to-door canvassing on electoral outcomes, since unlike participation vote choice cannot be measured at the individual level with administrative records. The third chapter answers this important question with a countrywide precinct-level randomized experiment in France. During the 2012 presidential elections, 22,500 precincts and 17.1 million citizens were randomly allocated to either a control group or a treatment group. Treatment precincts were targeted by canvassers supporting Francois Hollande, the left-wing Parti Socialiste's candidate. The effects are estimated using official electoral results at the precinct level. The visits did not affect voter turnout, but they reduced the vote share of the far-right political party's candidate and increased Hollande's vote share at the first round. Overall, they contributed to one fourth of his victory margin at the second round. The effects persisted in the subsequent parliamentary elections, suggesting that they were obtained by persuading medium and high-propensity voters to vote left, rather than by mobilizing left-wing nonvoters and demobilizing opponents. The results suggest that personal contact can be an effective way for political parties to reconnect with disgruntled citizens and to win their votes..

Abstract:
Aim: This study aims to explore bank selection criteria employed by international students in Gavle, Sweden. Methodology: Data was collected through semi-open structure questionnaire. The researchers do sampling a total of 101 students in the University of Gavle. After data collection through questionnaire, data was analyzed through SPSS19 software. A non-probabilistic convenience sampling was employed and data was analyzed to be refined and reduced in a manageable way. Conclusion: There are four factors which are the main reasons in influencing international students choosing banks in Sweden. This study reveals that “Good service provision”, “assurance”, “value added service”, “convenience and security” have significant influence on the bank selection decision of international students. There is no difference between ethnicity in influencing factors. Besides, different genders have same influencing factors as the four factors in this research.   Implications and value of this research: This research steps further in the investigation about customer bank selection behavior. It is the research that focuses on individual customers of banks especially in Sweden. Furthermore, the results of this research can be beneficial for banks to identify appropriate strategies to attract and retain international students. Suggestion for future studies: The international students are banks’ potential customers in the long run. Because the results of this study are only based on customer’s perceptions, it could be an interesting research area for future researchers to investigate the correspondence between and service providers’ and consumers’ perceptions. In addition, because one of our study limitations was that the research only conducted in one city: Gavle, it would be interesting to investigate other Swedish universities international students for the same topic.

Abstract:
The current study investigated maternal determinants of mental health service use, namely, individual child therapy, among preadolescent children diagnosed with ADHD. The Behavioral Model of Health Care Utilization (Andersen, 2008) was used as a theoretical framework for the study. Data from the last three rounds of ECLS-K dataset were employed to test a longitudinal model using Bayesian analysis. Socio-demographic variables and maternal mental health were tested as exogenous variables and mother-child relationship variables, discipline variables, and perceived maternal concern about child’s overall behavior and child’s emotional symptoms were tested as intervening variables. Results showed that only maternal mental health remained in the model as an exogenous variable. The effect of mental health on child therapy was mediated by maternal aggravation and maternal concern about overall behavior in one path and by maternal concern about emotional symptoms in another path, suggesting that maternal mental health needs to be considered when attempting to understand help-seeking determinants. Both concern variables were found to have large direct effects on child therapy. The results of the current study showed the importance of maternal mental health and the importance of determinants related to mother-child relationship in a mother’s decision to seek therapy for a child.

Abstract:
Pinterest is one of the fastest growing social networking sites and is attracting the interest of retailers as an effective way to interact with consumers. The purpose of this study was to examine: 1) determinants and impacts of Pinterest consumer experiences. Specifically, this study examined the impacts of retailer reputation, trust, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness on Pinterest consumer experiences on retailer SNS. 2) To identify the impacts of Pinterest consumer experiences on consumer satisfaction, behavioral intention, and online retailer relationship. The instrument used existing scales drawn from the literature. A consumer panel (n = 300) of Pinterest users that connect to apparel retailers was used to collect data through an online consumer panel. Reputation is positively related to trust and to perceived ease of use. Perceived ease of use and usefulness significantly affected retailer Pinterest consumer experiences. The impact of Pinterest consumer experiences on satisfaction and behavior intention was positive and significant. Satisfaction and behavior intention also are significantly related to online retailer relationship. Results and business implications are discussed, as well are limitations and future research.

Full text
Abstract:
Mixed feeding confers excess risk of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) compared with exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and exclusive formula feeding (EFF). We undertook a quantitative and qualitative cross-sectional survey to identify the social determinants of mixed feeding among a subset of HIV-infected women enrolled in a MTCT prevention program in Jos, Nigeria. Of the 91 participants, 68(75%) exclusively formula fed, 7(8%) exclusively breastfed, and 16(18%) practiced mixed feeding. Of the mixed feeding women, 7 primarily formula fed and 9 primarily breastfed. Women who primarily formula fed described family pressure as the reason for mixed feeding, whereas women who primarily breastfed indicated insufficient breast milk. In a multivariate analysis, lack of partner support of the feeding decision predicted mixed feeding behavior (OR: 4.2; 95% CI: 1.2-14.9; p=0.03). Disclosure of HIV status was significantly correlated (p<0.001) with partner support. HIV prevention interventions aimed at reducing mixed feeding should encourage supportive partner relationships that facilitate disclosure of HIV status. Attention should also be made to the differing pressures faced by women attempting to exclusively breastfeed and exclusively formula feed.

The present dissertation aims to investigate the instrumental role of human behaviour for democracy through the idea of public reason. The interaction between government and citizens is decisive for a country's public policies to be in line with population preferences rather than power groups. Thus, it becomes important to analyse the idea underlying democracy of "government by discussion" in the light of theories that enlighten us both with regard to the idea of just collective decision and real human behaviour. To this end, we first counterpoint the idea of public reason, in particular, of Rawls and Sen, with an emphasis on the concept of impartiality in political decisions. Then, in the third section, we work on the notions of rationality, reasonableness, introducing the concepts of heuristics, biases, and social values. Thus, an association is constructed for thinking about the results of different types of human behavior for democracy and how the ideas of positional and transcendental objectivity fit this purpose well. Finally, in section IV, we conduct an empirical investigation based on the relationship between perceptions of relevant political information and dispositions and the frequency of political talk with friends. We use a logistic regression model, with data from the 2015 Latin Barometer for Brazil, combined with principal components method to capture relevant explanatory dimensions. The following results contradict previous hypotheses: lack of trust in the government and the perception of absent guarantees are not significant, while activism dissociated of specific causes reduces and a reverse sense of citizenship increases the chances of talking about politics more frequently with friends.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Screening rates for colorectal cancer (CRC) are increasing nationwide including Tennessee (TN); however, their up-to-date status is unknown. The objective of this study is to determine the trends and characteristics of TN adults who are up-to-date status with CRC screening during 2002-2008. METHODS: We examined data from the TN Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System for 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 to estimate the proportion of respondents aged 50 years and above who were up-to-date status with CRC screening, defined as an annual home fecal occult blood test and/or sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy in the past 5 years. We identified trends in up-to-status in all eligible respondents. Using multivariable logistic regression models, we delineated key characteristics of respondents who were up-to-date status. RESULTS: During 2002-2008, the proportion of respondents with up-to-date status for CRC screening increased from 49% in 2002- 55% in 2006 and then decreased to 46% in 2008. The screening rates were higher among adults aged 65-74 years, those with some college education, those with annual household income ≥$35,000 and those with health-care access. In 2008, the respondents who were not up-to-date status with CRC screening included those with no health-care coverage (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 0.46, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.33-0.63), those aged 50-54 years (OR 0.62, 95% CI 0.46-0.82) and those with annual household income CONCLUSIONS: TN adults who are up-to-date status with CRC screening are increasing, but not across all socio-demographic subgroups. The results identified specific subgroups to be targeted by screening programs, along with continued efforts to educate public and providers about the importance of CRC screening.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine salient demographic characteristics of women who exhibited prompt or self-delay behavior for treatment of breast cancer symptoms. The population for this study consisted of 224 adult females between the ages of 25 and 82, residents of Arizona, who were participants in the Self Help Intervention Project: Breast Cancer Treatment Study conducted at The University of Arizona, College of Nursing. The instrument used in this study was the Demographic Data form devised by Carrie Jo Braden, Ph.D., R.N. Women who sought prompt follow up treatment for breast cancer symptoms showed significant differences from those who did not seek prompt help in age, employment, social support, and ethnicity. Significant differences for women who self-delayed treatment from those who did not self-delay were age, education, and ethnicity.

Full text
Abstract:
For the majority of large ungulates living in temperate regions winter is the limiting season, because of the combined effects of lack of resource availability and severity of climatic conditions. Those species that did not develop any particular morphological and physiological adaptation to cope with winter severity may adopt movement and space use tactics instead (like e.g. migration). Specifically, these space use patterns may emerge at different spatiotemporal scales to allow individuals to accede the resources they need and escape unfavourable conditions, thus determining both individual fate and population dynamics. A detailed understanding of the relationship between limiting factors in wintertime, and individual movement response, is remarkable to preserve and manage wildlife successfully, especially in the context of fast-occurring climate change that induces important alterations in landscape and resource distribution (e.g. changes of snow cover patterns). The comparison of movement tactics under different environmental scenarios, e.g. by means of large –scale analysis at the species distribution range, represents a valuable approach to work in that direction and to assess the effects of landscape alteration on individual movement. Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is an excellent model species to investigate these issues, because its distribution range covers most of Europe, thanks to its high ecological plasticity. For those populations that live in northern and mountain environments, winter is the limiting season because roe deer lack any morphological and physiological adaptations to cope with winter severity. In spite of the adoption of specific movement tactics such as partial migration from summer to winter ranges, roe deer may still face limiting conditions in some areas of the distribution range exposed to winter severity

Abstract:
On average, low-income individuals have poorer diet quality compared to their high-income counterparts. However, improved food access may offer opportunities to improve diet among this population. This study examines how the low-income population navigates between barriers, resources, and opportunities to acquire healthy foods in different settings. Chapter 3 examined how the use of a farmers’ market incentive program among the low-income population impacts F&V consumption. We observed no effect on F&V consumption due to program participation but users of the program have a significantly higher F&V consumption than non-users. Chapter 4 identified transportation difficulties as a barrier to the uptake of farmer’s market incentive program and that larger families may be less likely to take advantage of opportunities provided by farmer’s market incentive programs. Chapter 5 examined the association between factors that influence food choices (taste, price, convenience, concern for nutrition, and concern for weight) and food access and availability in the home. We found that certain behaviors (concern for nutrition) exhibited within the food purchase environment may impact food access and availability in the home. We conclude that more efforts and interventions that target improving consumer’s perceived importance for nutrition and transportation access to food resources are needed; especially among low-income population with low F&V consumption. In addition, information and financial access to food resource opportunities should be expanded, specifically among those with low F&V consumption and expanding the food incentives for larger families should be considered.

Abstract:
This study examined the customer asset management and the relationship between various constructs and firm characteristics on customer lifetime value(CLV).The relationship between marketing actions such as loyalty programs and the level of commitment and specifically the type of commitment and the type of loyalty that may be influenced by such a program were investigated. The main focus of the study was on the relationship between commitment and loyalty.Additional investigations were done on the impact that this may have on customer lifetime value. In terms of commitment, many researchers regard this as an important antecedent to customer retention but there have been conflicting or ambiguous empirical findings from various studies. In terms of loyalty ,many studies have similarly found that this concept is necessary for retention as well. This study examined the effects of the two dimensions of commitment on the two dimensions of loyalty.A survey was administered and a sample of 152 informants was analyzed using SEM with PLS-Graph 3.0 Build 1130 for inferential analysis and SPSS version 16.0 for descriptive analysis. The results show a significant relationship between affective commitment and attitudinal loyalty and behavioral loyalty and that continuance commitment is not significantly related to loyalty. In addition, the results indicate that affective commitment has a greater impact on loyalty than calculative commitment;however there was no significant relationship between attitudinal loyalty and CLV or between behavioral loyalty and CLV.

Recently, with the raising of consumers’ awareness, the number of consumption dispute case is increasing year by year. How to deal with consumers complains and maintain the market share are becoming the important problems for business currently. However, most dissatisfied consumers will not adopt direct complaints. Therefore, this research investigated the effects of switching costs and individual capital on consumer noncomplaining behavior. Data of total 283 questionnaires were analyzed. There are two major findings: (1) There is a significant positive correlation between switching costs and noncomplaining behavior. (2) Individual capital symbolizing personal condition characteristics significantly explained the variance in the noncomplaining behavior.

Abstract:
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Statistics and Information Management, specialization in Information Analysis and Management
The green industry has been growing over the years. Consumers and companies are more concerned about their footprint and strive to reduce the environmental problems and increase their ecological actions. Thus, understanding the determinants of green purchase behavior is essential for marketers and companies to improve their strategies and products. To achieve the objective of the dissertation, a conceptual model was proposed. The data was collected through an online questionnaire, and the results were analyzed through a structural equation modeling method. The findings unveiled that environmental knowledge, perceived quality, perceived price, green trust, green advertising and long-term orientation impact the green purchase intention and that green purchase intention has a significant impact on the green purchase behavior. Additionally, the results show how the proposed model differs with gender.
This study uses the data from the Taiwan Social Change Survey (TSCS) in 2010 and analyzes the determinants of pro-environmental behavior. The empirical models are estimated using ordered logit model (OL model). The empirical results are summarized as follows. First, environmental attitude, risk-conscious, and confidence in knowledge, have positive effects on pro-environmental behavior. Second, as for the effects of demographic characteristics, gender, marital status, and education levels have significant effects on pro-environmental behavior. The empirical results of this study show that pro-environmental behavior can be affected by environmental attitude. Thus, for the aims of carbon reduction and environmental sustainability, the government should improve environmental behavior through education and offer more incentives to change environmental behavior.

In recent years, the trend for “flipped classroom” goes viral, so schools start to encourage teachers to do innovative instruction. However junior high school teachers lose innovation in teaching methods, and high school students lose their motivation in learning because of the cramming of knowledge. These high school students who lack of enthusiasm for learning are marked as “No power generation.” The data used on this research were pulled from National Teachers’ Survey done by TEPS in 2001, to analyze if a teacher’s background, school innovation, and the mood of the higher education enrollment have a significant influence on a teacher’s willing to try innovative ideas in teaching.According to Simple Logistic Regression Analysis, the research result shows as followings: 1.Teachers with (11-20) years of teaching experience tend to have willing to employees innovative ideas in their teaching comparing to beginners and seniors; the higher the teaching years they have, the more likely they would like to try teaching in an innovative way. 2.With higher the Organizational Innovative Climate, it’s more likely for a teacher to implement innovative instruction. On the contrary, with a school of higher value of higher education enrollment rate, it’s less likely for a teacher to try innovative instruction. 3.There is a significant relationship among a teacher’s willing to use innovative instruction, whether innovative instruction is implemented by other teachers within the school, and schools with collaborative teaching. Furthermore, there is no relationship found between the willing of trying innovative teaching and peer support. This research based on TEPS samples which cover city and rural areas representing the data for the whole country. The research results can be used as a reference for education administrators when setting up educational policies.

President convenience stores are the largest domestic convenience store franchise in terms of number of shop outlets, 85% of which are franchised stores as of April 2012. The loyalty of franchisees is a crucial factor for the profitability of the convenience profit sector. According to the Chain Store Association, although the number of stores and the turnover are still on the rise, the growth rates are decreasing. Therefore, in addition to recruit new franchisees and increase the market share, franchisors must also pay attention to managing the relationship with existing franchisees, using appropriate communication and management tools and skilled personnel (headquarters staff and district supervisors) to enhance franchisee satisfaction, trust and commitment, and therefore increase franchisee loyalty and organizational citizenship behavior. In this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted, with 280 valid questionnaires collected. Based on this, multiple regression analysis was conducted using SPSS software. Departing from franchisee satisfaction, the impact on citizenship behavior and loyalty behavior was explored. Further, the mediating role relationship quality, was tested. The results provide managerial clues on how to improve the relationship between franchise headquarters and franchisees and what strategies can be used to keep franchisees and enhance overall benefits for the franchise system.
